I remember how I first discovered this gem of a music video. It just showed up randomly in my auto-generated UA-cam playlist while I was working on school projects. I love when the algorithms actually work out.
I've always looked forward to your skribble kibbles! This animation is extremely impressive and I'm surprised you've gotten around to talk about it since I found out about rotoscoping from your earlier videos. I take much inspiration from these animations and it's nice to see your channel showcase them.
I wonder. I mean the 3d part looks pretty rough, like a half-assed G-Mod short. And having a guide to draw over would save a lot of work for the 2d bit.
SO GOOD. Not just the animation, but scribble kibble! I wouldn't have known about so many of these neat animations if it weren't for scribble kibble. Thanks for that, Crowne Prince!
Will you ever do a video about the costs of animation? Like, for making all sorts of short cartoons, including the stuff that isn't connected to animation itself, like music.
This appeals to me on so many levels, and I'm certain I never would have found it otherwise. Thanks so much for turning me on to the animation and the band.
WOW! What a sweet video, and and interesting subject matter for the music too! Knowing hoe much work goes into something like this makes it all the more satisfying I think, to see the end result.
The style of this seams to be a bit like Hercules, oh wait, THATS THE CLIP YOU SHOWED US, is that the same guy? WOW! Isn’t he good at his job, not as good as your works mind crowne
You've been wanting to do this from the beginning? On my god, this one of my favorite animated music videos ever!! Thanks for covering it, finally! I didn't even have to pause your video first to see it because I already have! :D
i was actually really surprised that the chords and etc were animated accurately in the animation. Like you don't get that kind of detail in an average run-of-the-mill animation no no no, this was a masterpiece
I like to float hair too it's so much fun to watch these characters jump around and whip their heads everywhere because they look like they're having fun and it's satisfying to watch the hair move so fluently. They did a really good job despite the tight budget but show you don't need expensive high quality equipment to make a well do animation. I just feel bad for the person who animated the 2D characters because that's not easy without puppets or good movement references to match the requested movements.
Great find, Crowne Prince. I've never heard of this video before but it was amazing to watch. Thank you for showing it to us. I'm looking forward to the episode of Scribble Kibble that you're working on with Pikapetey. His work is looking great so far.
well, that was an oddly fitting video of Mechanical bulls, 2d animation, 3d animation and actual footage of "Freaks". Well done animators, I applaud you
Nice. The music video was great. Thanks for advising it by the way. And It's great to see another Scribble Kibble episode after so long. (I know you did one before but it was more like a trailer than an actual episode.)
yay Scribble Kibble :3 ironically i found this and the animation with the tiny mouse creature after watching your announcement for season 2 i can't wait to see what else you have in store for ScribbleKibble
CROWN! I have questions that are only slightly related to this video! Your videos have taught me well, and I have discovered rotoscoping in the most unlikely of places: Archer. I don't know much about the show, but my dad was flipping channels and it came on and I watched it for a little bit, and I noticed that the animation was just to smooth to be anything but rotoscoped. I'm just really confused. Why would a show like Archer use rotoscoping? For that matter how do they pay for it? How do they have enough time to make it? The show doesn't exactly have a large target audience, and I can't imagine the necessary hiatuses keep a large crowd around. I'm so confused!
Archer is 2D puppets animated in After Effects. They draw the puppets in Illustrator. The backgrounds are 3D. Artists paint on top of the 3D backgrounds to make them fit the style of the show.
The animation of that video is exquisite 👌 I mean, I'm no expert on animation but I love that video! And the weird black and white videos that are played are also very.. interesting..
It reminds me a bit of Pearl Jam - Do the Evolution's video where my brain went: 'hey, dats batman beyond art?" Goes to show how recognizable that person's art style is when one of the first things I notice was it's classic 'disney' style.
I've always wanted an episode on the opening animations for the JoJo's bizarre adventures series. I'm just curious on how they made 3D animations with that style. ^_^ by the way, I'm glad scribble kibble got a season 2. I love watching these kind of videos. ^_^
Long time and no see. Yes, this is a rather good example of rotoscoping but it appears that they missed a few tricks. Not to get too detailed, but the models could be retweaked to conform to the liberties taken during the drawing process and the 3D data could be blended in with the 2D drawings in order to add some 3D style shading to the experience. It actually would require a lot of work relative to the output especially when trying to make sure the shading works well with the art style chosen for the 2D so that explains why they didn't do that. Oh, and on that short a budget, the use of 3D backgrounds (especially in the final piece) saves on time and money as it is easier to make more flexible backgrounds quickly and cheaply using 3D than 2D. For a good example of this, see the Pokemon xyz series. They use the same technique for the same reasons. This also worked out rather beautifully when the background itself turned into a character half way through the animation. All in all, a rather good piece. Cheers!
I wanted to check what the budget for Feel Good Inc. but I can't find it anywhere, anyone know what it is? also please do feel good inc in a future episode Though the animation is top notch, some of the transitions feel crude, maybe it's computer limitations at the time I don't know. Most wide shot backgrounds are 3D rendered, instruments are too, including 2-D's Megaphone, Murdoc's electric bass, Noodle's acoustic guitar, and Russel's drum set. In my opinion they would be better off doing the instruments in 2D, notice how the megaphone occasionally sits completely still when 2-D is walking with it, but then again it goes with the theme of this music video idk. Hell the music doesn't even line up, and let's not even talk about how they decided to go 3D
I saw the art book for freak of the week. I want to animate like that one day.
Pikapetey Animations same ^^
You already do though!
Rotoscoping is the bitchiest, time consuming, rage inducing form of animation, but it's so beautiful in the end.
I remember how I first discovered this gem of a music video. It just showed up randomly in my auto-generated UA-cam playlist while I was working on school projects. I love when the algorithms actually work out.

That "rotoscoping over 3d models" technique is so clever that I can't believe everyone doesn't do it
It clever, but it takes twice as long. Hell, probably three times as long if this piece didn't have thirty five animators.

It's so good seeing a fluffy cartoon wolf geek out over animation. Really missed this series. Glad it's back.
This is my favorite music video, to see its parts broken down and explained how it was done makes it even more impressive!
This appeals to me on so many levels, and I'm certain I never would have found it otherwise. Thanks so much for turning me on to the animation and the band.

This video has been a treasured love of mine for ages. So glad it made the Scribble list of amazing animations! WOO!
So happy to see other people that know of this amazing band!
Freak of the Week is one of my favourite music animations! It's so amazing!
You've been wanting to do this from the beginning? On my god, this one of my favorite animated music videos ever!! Thanks for covering it, finally! I didn't even have to pause your video first to see it because I already have! :D
Good to see the show in its second season. I'm also glad you finally covered Freak of the Week! Many thanks sweet Prince!
i was actually really surprised that the chords and etc were animated accurately in the animation. Like you don't get that kind of detail in an average run-of-the-mill animation no no no, this was a masterpiece
Freak of the week is one of my favorite AMVs. Good job on the review.
YES!! Freak of the week is AMAZING! I discovered it about a year ago and it blew my mind!
I like to float hair too it's so much fun to watch these characters jump around and whip their heads everywhere because they look like they're having fun and it's satisfying to watch the hair move so fluently. Man, I remember stumbling across this a looong time ago, I'm glad you did an in-depth analysis on it Crowne!
Hell yeah Freak of the Week! Glad to see you finally covered it
well, that was an oddly fitting video of Mechanical bulls, 2d animation, 3d animation and actual footage of "Freaks". Well done animators, I applaud you

The animated version of the drummer looks like Tuffnut from How To Train Your Dragon.
I agree
Yeah, he does XD
glad I'm not the only one who thought that xD
Honestly I could just watch the Scribble Kibble intro over and over again :P idk why
That was great, thanks for sharing. I always learn so much here
yay Scribble Kibble :3
ironically i found this and the animation with the tiny mouse creature after watching your announcement for season 2 i can't wait to see what else you have in store for ScribbleKibble
Thanks for introducing me to a really awesome piece of animation! It reminded me of Titan AD.
You should do a gorillaz music video
Espurgur R OMG YESSS
To think this was only the beginning of studio Fortice power. You can even get a glimpse of the arcane style here and that’s so cool
The drummer from freak kitchen was (or maybe still is) a music teacher at my friends school. I find that kinda cool :)
i love the hair BUSH BUUUSH
Thank you so much! I've loved this music video since the first I watched it!
Freak Kitchen... That band's music is so insanely original
Your voice is so soothing to me.
I remember seeing this animation my god it's so amazing to see. Thenk you CP ^u^
I think it would be really cool if you did a video on the Ernest and Celestine movie. The watercolour animation gives it a very unique feel to it.
TvT I'm so happy you're doing episodes again

Crowne Prince Oh OK! Cool thanks!
I did not know you could use 3-D models to rotoscope. Hooray, for learning new things!
Rock on
I have something for you to check out: Nerogeist. He is a really cool animator, and in his Gaurdian series he is working toward a bigger story arch.
I forgot this video existed. It was so hype when it came out then it just kinda died :/
Glad to see it featured!
The animation of that video is exquisite 👌

i love your breakdown of arts :D
I've been wondering when you would do this one!

Crowne Prince do you do your own animation because this is really great i mean damn
I love this song and the video.
DO THE STORY TELLER BY DRAW BY JAZZA GOD DAMMIT
I LOVE THIS MUSIC VIDEO ITS THE BEST. IT HELPS THAT I LOVE THE MUSIC.
I'm honestly surprised that there aren't a bunch of reaction videos to this song.
Could you consider making a video about the tale teller?
I found this originally in MysteryBen27's favorite list. You know, the Ghosts guy.
CROWNE! YOU SHOULD DO AN ANIMATION WERE WE CAN AUDITION FOR VOICES IN IT! YE
You should watch the cartoon one guy made of a slayer song . The song is criminally insane. There's some good attention to detail in it.
I watched this a couple years ago I luv it
I'm late but I've been waiting only 3 hours for this because of school
Nice review here! Can you do Fire Tiger vs Acid Panther? P good animation and colors!
Huh, so that's why it looks like that Disney atlantis series, the guy literally worked on both
My favorite song back in '14
YASSSS ITS BACK
I've always wanted an episode on the opening animations for the JoJo's bizarre adventures series. I'm just curious on how they made 3D animations with that style. ^_^ by the way, I'm glad scribble kibble got a season 2. I love watching these kind of videos. ^_^
Hey you- You should make a video about the bouncy, springy animation of Night in the Woods.
it's finally here!!! woot
Can you do Creative Types
The_ Catlover6666 ermagerd yes
GottaSketchEmAll
Creative types isn't as complex as any of the other animations she's covered.
GottaSketchEmAll that's more for emotional impact than critiquing animation
Have you done a video on Pearl Jam - do the evolution? I think it’s a good animated MV
YAYYY S2 EP1 YAYYYYY

Hey May i sent fanart of Scrible Kibble?
Yeah. She gets a ton of fanart and yours might even be featured.

I wanted to check what the budget for Feel Good Inc. but I can't find it anywhere, anyone know what it is?
also please do feel good inc in a future episode

can you do a episode on Entropy?
You need to cover fire tiger vs acid panther
What's there to cover with it? That is a good animation tho.
I could have sworn I heard about Freak of the Week through this show, but I don't remember any of this information.
WolfDemonProductions She mentioned it in an episode before, but didn't go into detail
WolfDemonProductions She mentioned Rotoscoping in Lone Digger video
But I can't understand, what the programs they using?
I know picture CP blasting Freak of the Week out her windows, as she dumps the clutch on her cherry-red Olds 442.
How to send fanart to this channel?
But you already made a episode on this animation last year.
