Quite a bit, actually. Stuff about the character shading being a cheezy trick, a CG effect on Celestia's mane going wrong, and about the puppet animation being floaty and overly smooth compared to the frame by frame.
holy snap! great job! most of your remarks are spot on. only this: shading was done with CCplastic and yes, in some shots celestias mane was done in AE how? particular with emiter folowing the head. + wave fx why? TIME XD thank you. I feel honored you made this about my work!
+WarpOut Ahah! CCplastic, then. I'll have to try it. I haven't used Trapcode Particular myself, but I thought something + wave fx might be the other possibility. And yeah, time. Celestia's hair is just the worrrrsst.
I may not have a reaction of my own to share, but as for your request at 0:19 I have this, a non-brony reaction by this gracious soul who deduced about 95% of what was going on. (link below) ua-cam.com/video/_tXUm2j2BfY/v-deo.html
Okay..... So a white horse who controls the sun tranports into another dimension where she can see the past. She sees herself younger as she ruled, and a blue horse is sitting in her shadow, who, because of the lyrics, I believe to be the white horse's sibling. Blue horse gets depressed because she isn't loved and a demon takes hold of her, making her all black and edgy. They fight and then white horse uses weird crystals to kill blue horse? But then she's on the moon!
+Crowne Prince fs, in Russia, I think, by mistake all people who tried to translate this video, start with title, they all read and spell it library, so do I, heh. For mother Russia.
I apologise if you already have but have you ever considered doing interviews with some of the people who've worked on the animation you're talking about? (if it's a project like this rather than a movie) Perhaps they could tell you something interesting about the animation that's never really been mentioned before!
Every time I learn more about Lullaby for a Princess, I don't stop being amazed. I accept the fact that there were errors my puny brain couldn't recognize!
Well, since you asked so nicely, I've never seen mlp before but the story still made almost complete sense to me. It was simple, actually... a dark side and a light side and they fought or something.... and now she's in the moon.. I think...
You All Suck the White horse is Celestia and the Blue horse is Luna. They are sisters, Celestia raises the sun and Luna raised the moon (don't question it). Luna get really sad and angry that everyone loves the day a s Celestia, but shuns the night and Luna. Luna's dark side takes over and she will put the land in eternal darkness. After the fight, Celestia uses the elements of harmony to banish to the moon for 1,000 years.
I how other animators talk about stuff down by other animators. Anyway, I've watched non-brony reactions of this pmv and even they understand what is happening in the video, even though they're mindblown half of the time lol.
My opinion about lullaby for a princess: Background: 999999/10 Character movement: 999999/10 Lights and effects: 999999/10 Hair animation: 999999/10 Y? Bc I can't even animate xD And Celestia's hair looks 100000% fine in my opinion xP
Looking at the thing that happened at 4:05 I can very confidently tell you what's happening here is that they've put a time dilation on the hair. What the hair is ACTUALLY doing is wiggling back and fourth in one whole motion, but the further down the length of the hair the more delayed the action is. Here's a video that demonstrates the same effect, also has some neat sciency stuff. ua-cam.com/video/mQ0hS7l9ckY/v-deo.html
could be a shader as well (unless that's what is already being used). at 3:55 it looks like Celestia's rump is a 3d model. then the tweened wing is the cover-up for the seam between the lower and upper body, the upper being frame by frame animation. shaders are typically used for 2D Graphics, but opengl has extensive support for applying shaders to 3D models to displace the vertices. but hey, what do I know?
Did u see in the lullaby for a princes at 3:57 near her eye there is her hair i think showing through her head. I thought it kinda look strang but they did do there best so im sure they never notest it idk :3
Nice review. Lullaby for a Princess is my favorite fanmade animation in the entire brony fandom, just because of the shear effort the animators put into this.
Oh goodness I'm so happy that you did this animation!! It is just about my favorite fan animation to date! I loved how professional it looked, and the lip syncing was gorgeous (in my opinion) !!
Lullaby for a princess really tugs at the hearstrings. When you really begin to imagine the emotional trauma Celestia experienced having to literally send her only family to the moon for a thousand years... Agh. Luna's empty bed, with Celestia lying outside on the balcony... My eyes seem to be sweating.
I'm not into nor against ponies, but I've absorbed enough info by associating with those that are into the show that I pretty much immediately knew what the story was. That aside, that's some damn fine singing! The animation is decently done and the backgrounds are beautiful, though I unfortunately didn't pay the backgrounds much attention until you mentioned them.
I've personally been good at spotting frame by frame vs puppet. FbF seems to distort and stretch bodies in natural ways whereas puppets can't, but they also distort bodies in unnatural ways for emphasis or by accident. Puppets have this smooth, round movement with consistent anatomy.
Have you ever considered doing a Scribble Kibble of "Cascade" from Homestuck or, now that it is released "Collide" or even "Game Over?" All three of those flash animations had a lot of different artists working on it with various art styles as well as the art style andrew hussie established for the comic series. Come to think of it, most of the animation are still pictures dramatically being scrolled to the music... But, there are some actual animation. No wait... assuming you have not covered any homestuck related flash before not out of disinterest or hatred for the story and/or fandom, It is probably due to how basic most of the animation is! I just realized that most of the animated sections are done through tweens and combined short gifs of various sprites/puppets.
To Crowne Prince: Honestly it took me a while to realize it at first i thought it was very talented art who used paintjob with both:(wet paint, and Dry paint illustration)Till i saw the luna scene and realized it was not by that program. It was amazing and incredible but to have this on a pc honestly must've taken weeks to work on. I honestly congrats to both of them on this project.
I noticed the parts where they used puppets and the completely hand-drawn animation, also the 3D-thing. I think is one of the most glorious fan-animations, but it would be in a 100% if everything were drawn by hand (due the naturally of the movements). Anyway, I love all the analysis videos which you do! It feels so relaxing to hear your voice and your style. Greetings from Argentina! _(Sorry if my English isn't 100% good)_.
I think story makes sense. That is from me knowing the story from the show and what they gone through. I wonder if it is saying that something took over Luna rather being her own will? But may be hinting it's her sadness or anger taking over. The fighting looked so epic! :D interesting that the TV show looks to target young girls yet can have amazing animation like even a big fight Twilight did at a season final was epic.
I know it's not really part of the animation specifically, but the music carries the viewer through any rough bits. It told the story and (I'm sure due to timing) drove the viewer through the video.
I'm not a fan of the show or the franchise. However I do enjoy the gorgeous fan art in all forms. I heard about this and as i saw the scribble kibble episode of this I went into it optimistically thinking "ok, let's see how this does" My reaction is impressed and wow. I loved the animation and art style and I didn't even listen to the lyrics, just the tone the singing and music played as the animation showed me a story. Would I re watch it? Yea, once or twice, and I'm thankful I got to see it as the animation was beautiful and I liked how fluent the reactions and facial expressions felt and transitioned.
I like watching videos about animation, it makes me see what i can't see when watching the actal animation. For some unknown reason i'm unable to watch a video or a movie and analyse the animations and realisation processes. So thank you for your vids because i wouldn't understand how it works without it ^^
I don’t like my little pony... however as an artist I respect this very talented animation! The paintings are beautiful. And to answer your question Crowne Prince, I do think I understand the story.
Imma big fan of animation and know next to nothing about the MLP worldbuilding. After watching this excellent piece several times and a slight bit of Googling, the plot becomes easily understandable to me. Aside for some eye leakage and a compulsion to watch this every dang day, I revel in this pieces power to evoke emotion.
For me, I find it jarring when one shot is frame by frame and the next is puppets. Especially when they are in the same shot. The shot right before the one shown at 4:06 in the original video shows the animation resetting before cutting to the next shot, it might have worked better if the shot was cut before the reset, while she is looking down, but it might now make as much sense when moving to the next shot. I LOVED the fight scene though 👌. I also loved the animation at "days and nights passsss" after the story book part. The circling near the end too was nice, just some of the proportions were off which I can understand. The style also changed dramatically throughout the animation which was also jarring, but nice to see he was improving. I liked the story book animation style and thought it fit. I feel like the backgrounds overshadow some of the animation, which shouldn't really happen. Not many people who don't study this stuff will see that, though.
Never clicked on a video so fast. I am somewhat new to your channel, so I didn't see this before YT recommended it. I really like your channel. Have a nice day! =)

Negative?! Where?

ClawKittuKitty 3 basically, yeah
ClawKittuKitty 3 Spot on!
Minus the killing part, yeah pretty much.
No.. watch the Show and you will Unterstand
finally! I believe that Lullaby For A Princess is the best MLP Animation especially becuase it has a unique style and isn't based off of pony bases
I'm not a fan of MLP but I will ALWAYS love this animation 100%
Same!! It's amazing.
Same here.
Yesssss

woah hi chipflake lmao

My opinion about lullaby for a princess:
Background: 999999/10
Character movement: 999999/10
Lights and effects: 999999/10
Hair animation: 999999/10
Y?
Bc I can't even animate xD
And Celestia's hair looks 100000% fine in my opinion xP
okay, i'm not even a fan of my little pony, but that video shook me to my core. that was really good.
woah that ending animation caught me off gaurd
OK good I'm not the only one who thought that XD

Jesus Christ. That animation gave me literal chills.

Lullaby for a princess, thank you for letting me explore and join the my little pony community, I grew up on this and watched a million times
The “look at me I’m sooo flowwyyyy” was the best thing ever lol idk why but I laughed at that more than I should of
This is one of my favorite fan animations ever
Lullaby for a princess is my favorite animation, honestly my favorite. FAVORITE.

Omg my friend is so freaking obsessed with this!! I gotta show her this, she'll never be able to watch Lullaby of a Princess again!!
Scribble Kibble = best name for a series
I know it's not really part of the animation specifically, but the music carries the viewer through any rough bits. It told the story and (I'm sure due to timing) drove the viewer through the video.
I loved M.L.P as a kid and this animation gave me so many nostalgia tingles :3
Hey Crowne Prince I do love the fact that u made ur own Scribble Kibble music! And yes the backgrounds r amazing by average water paints!!
I watched this 2 years ago because I would never go to sleep. I always snucked in to see the animation
How can anyone not love Luna? That's not possible!
The hair looks like some sort of 3D model that's being morphed and has a very toony shader.
To those who don't know mlp; the story in Lullaby for a Princess is canon :D
I'm not a fan of the show or the franchise. However I do enjoy the gorgeous fan art in all forms.

Excellent analysis!
The animation of the wolf is so adorable. My thoughts for lullaby for a princess was that it was that it was great but was lost on the story
Celestia's hair does that. ALOT.
I love this series, I love seeing animations broken down like this, X3 Makes my Artsy bits go "EEEEEEEE"
I don't know why, but I couldn't stop laughing at that FLOOOWWWY part.
I like watching videos about animation, it makes me see what i can't see when watching the actal animation. I've seen thus, but it's been a while.
I still remember CRYING MY EYES OUT
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay animation my hole life! I DON’T EVEN NEED AIR MORE THAN ANIMATION!
i love me some watercolors. The watercolor backgrounds make sense. It's divine. Wish I could order a print of some of the backgrounds.
you should do Fall of the Crystal Empire!
So glad she is reviewing this!!! *^,^
It almost made me cry
I love watching this channel xD

Yoo, whats the background song? Its so calming
Great breakdown of how that was all made
I’ve always noticed that celestia’s head look a bit off in some scenes and now I know why thanks
Well, I can see why that would be my most viewed comparison.
I'm Such a Huge Fan of My Little Pony! I Always Love This Animation with All My Heart! It's the Best Animation Ever!
You didn't even get to talk about the amazing angles
I love MLP and this made so much sense, I honestly love it
I've already watched this animation before and I absolutely love it
I Like It When People Love Talking About Lullaby For A Princess

I love the way she said "Yay, Flash!"
THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING THE HAIR!!!
I love this animation and it make total sense. I am really into MLP so I get everything that is going on.
Lulaby for a princess was amazing 😍
My goodness, please do the moon rises!!
I really would like to see that on this series
I knew a lot about animation, but I'M LEARNING!!!
Okay so i understood everything and cried aswell thanks fam :)
I absolutely love this animation it’s amazing
Wonderful video as always Prince!
Can you do a Scribble Kibble on the suddenly famous The Night by Daria Cohen?
YAAAS
really good job breaking it down. And a really good choice if I do say so my self
I have nothing to say other than YOU NEED MORE SUBSCRIBERS!!! Your videos are funny
Celestia and Luna are the ponys you are talking about! BOOM MIKE DROP!
I could listen to your voice all day. :3
I like mlp fan work for examples like Lullaby for a Princess. The story is all viewing: you don't hear the story, you see it. The animation is so damn good you can see life and emotion in the eyes of the characters. I have yet to see any aniumation outside of say Rocket Racoon from Guardians of the Galaxy, where you can visually see emotion and maybe even a spark of life to the character.
I watched it when I was a smol pure bean
and then I noticed a few errors such as Celestia's necklace thingy missing in some shots
I love this animation holy dang yes.
Such a beautiful animation
Oo! Finally some insight from you!
I don't know some about the characters but it was very easy to understand without knowing much at all
Look at some of Harry Partridges stuff, its really really well animated.
0:40 your fur sticking out on your neck is matching with the roof of the tower in the background
Dunno how I saw that
But I like the video!
I discovered the animation when it was new and I knew literally NOTHING about mlp and I still understood the story
Crowne Prince is the best! :D
It soooooo sad. I cried so much
I love you so much! You help me with your awesome tips. It's awesome to have somebody, that understands everything and helps everybodeeeeh!!!
I loved it!I even bot the album
