Fun fact: Fortiche Production, the studio that worked in collab with Juanjo Guarnido to make this music video, are now the ones animating Arcane! And of course, all of the cool League of Legends music videos.
It's stuff like this that makes me miss Disney's 2d stuff so bad I mean the tech is advancing to the point that there is no excuse for not doing feature length stuff anymore
Klaus is basically modernized Disney 2D animation just under a different studio name. Please watch it if you haven’t it will fill your appetite for traditional animation.
After watching the music video, I was really impressed with the shots that wrapped around the characters (5:30), I was like, "Wow the animators have an incredibly good eye for perspective! And it looks perfectly consistent!! :o". I guess this was achieved/aided by the 3d models that were drawn over. Very clever! The effect is amazing!!
"...preserve the line quality...." I absolutely wish modern day animation studios would live by this. One of the most depressing things I see is original concept work from Disney, then the finished, computer-animated product. The work goes from being full of life, highly dimensional, and unique-processed down to a static, unnecessarily detailed computer animation. It's frustrating, and hard not to come off as a "man those were the days" nostalgia nerd when voicing criticism. The biggest rule in animation is for it to look full of life and realistic, it must be drawn completely cartoonish and in an exaggerated manor. The last "traditionally" animated film I saw in the theater was "The Princess and the Frog" put out by Disney. Tiana was one of the most lifeless, static animated characters I've ever seen, especially when compared to some of the gorgeous concept art. Thank you for producing one of the most spectacular marriages of computer and traditional animation I've ever seen. It is always a joy to drink in the video when watching.
While Paperman has its merits, it doesn't hit the nail on the head. When I first watched Freak of the Week, I could pick out computerized elements, but didn't immediately recognize it as being traced on a computer skeleton. Paperman IMMEDIATELY is recognizable as computer animated, and uses the computer to basically "dress" the computer skeletons with hand drawings. What Paperman will likely do, is not keep the hand-made drawings, but encourage Disney to "teach" the computers to more accurately mimic the look. Labor-intensive = $$$, and seeing as the average movie goer is happy to see an Academy Award-nominated computer animated movie about troll dolls, it's not likely the investment will be made on a large scale.
The music video was AMAZING! It actually made me want to get into animation even more . Freak of the Week is now the song I replay constantly, and I don't think the song would have had such an impact on me if the music video was just a typical live action music video.
Man, every once in a while I start to feel like there's no point in continuing my passion to make animations of my own, because it seems so impossible from where I am now, but videos like these give me that drive to pursue it all over again.
I loved this music video, you all did such a great job in putting it together and the lip sync makes me jealous! Good work! I hope you do more but I also can't wait for the next issue of Blacksad.
gotta say how stunning all this really truly is. countless days working on the same thing over and over again with a group of people for a mere couple minutes. I commend this to death so much. As someone who'd done animation most my life, I pray I can get on this level one day!
Excellent, juste excellent !!!
Wow ! It's so interresting to see what started it and what things take to make it-- Amazing job to all of you ! I enjoy this animated music video so much and I hope to see more of this in the future~ ovo/ It feels quite nice to see this style of animation. Makes me want to watch these Disney classic again ! (Specially Tarzan....I dunno but the way the drummer smashes his head with the cymbal reminds me of it... XD)
This is so amazing!! Just become my favourite music video. Havn't seen anything this breathtaking since Road to El Dorado!! Congratulations to the whole crew. You guys ROCK!!
Very nice, loved the animation style, was wondering if there was some sort of rotoscoping done but this time it seems a CG render was used which was unique. I know Aaron Blaise uses TVpaint as well for his stuff, seeing him and you guys using it is making want to try it out as well.
Really awesome project and the final music video works great! I hope u can do more and - why not - bigger in the future! Great stuff! Congratulations to all the team! :D
Seeing how this was made is actually quite interesting.i saw the animation and i didn't really know how they got the unique feel and art style of the .piece. i really hope that more people see this, i wouldn't mind at all seeing another video like this, and as of yet i haven't really found anything quite like it. excellent work.
Whoa, so how did they get funding for this? I'm glad they did because it's gorgeous and something I didn't think people could do anymore outside of very specific places.
You guys did an incredible job! I really hope that you get all the feedback and interest from the public. Whether it be monetary or exposure, you guys really deserve it for all the hard work and talent put into this piece. Let us know if there is any way for us to support you for future projects! I'd really love to see much more in your future!
I got TVPaint for Christmas and while on their website i saw that there was a drawing from Freak of the Week and I was like "no way, it was made with TVPaint?!" I've seen this video multiple times (along with the music video) and I hadn't realized. I get more and more impressed when I find out a movie or something I love was created with a program I had my eyes on for a while (and finally have)
Rewatching this again several years later I still find that this is a very impressive piece (both the original music video and this making-of !) . In TVPaint when you import the image sequences of the 3D models for reference , do you have a method to keep the file sizes in TVPaint from getting very large? I find that if I have full rendered image sequences or .mp4 or .mov files imported into the TVPaint timeline it tends to make the TVPaint file size get large. Any tips to keep the file size from getting bloated ?
hu, I've wanted too do something like this for Jorn Lande some day, after watching this I'm getting an idea of how much of a collaborative effort it might be.
Love seeing behind the scenes to animation.
It really is a labor of love.
Fun fact: Fortiche Production, the studio that worked in collab with Juanjo Guarnido to make this music video, are now the ones animating Arcane! And of course, all of the cool League of Legends music videos.
The band is Swedish, the animation studio that made the music video is French, and the director of the video is Spanish/Latino.
It's stuff like this that makes me miss Disney's 2d stuff so bad I mean the tech is advancing to the point that there is no excuse for not doing feature length stuff anymore

I wonder how you'd feel about Pain's Absinthe Phoenix Rising video
The music video was AMAZING! It actually made me want to get into animation even more .
Freak of the Week is now the song I replay constantly, and I don't think the song would have had such an impact on me if the music video was just a typical live action music video.
No Joke: the facial expressions there during the quiet moment between the faceplant and the dive sell the emotion of the song so well.
@@TheBoundFenrir Totally the body rotations are so cool, overall a stunning masterpiece of a music video.
He animated for disney...that explains his talent;)
This animation had a beautiful Xerox feel, I loved every frame of it.
This quality of animation deserves recognition.
Yup

Your stuff is amazing in it's own right.
I loved this music video, you all did such a great job in putting it together and the lip sync makes me jealous! Good work! I hope you do more but I also can't wait for the next issue of Blacksad.
Congrats, this animation is by far the best one I saw on the last years ! I hope for all of the crew success, 'cause you all deserve it!

Encore Bravo !
The music video: English.
This video: Everything else.
Genial, maravilloso...en tu línea. FELICIDADES A TI principalmente y a ese maravilloso equipo. Besos

Probably one of my all time greatest clips. The animation was superb and encapsulated the band so well. Plus, it's an awesome song!
Wow ! It's so interresting to see what started it and what things take to make it--

+Shiny Salamandre Well Juanjo was the lead animator for Sabor so maybe that's why.
This is so amazing!! Just become my favourite music video. Havn't seen anything this breathtaking since Road to El Dorado!! Congratulations to the whole crew. You guys ROCK!!
It's awesome to see a videoclip nowdays that is worked as hell like this, you guys rock :3

Gros bravo à cette équipe !

Not only was the song itself amazing, it had amazing animation that helped make it stand out.

Whooooooa that is a lot of work. Totally worth it though! The video is amazing
Incredible a real inspiration for anyone (including me) who wants to be a animator.
I need more animated music. videos :3

Me Recuerda Al Estilo De Dibujos De Disney,Mas Especifico,De Tarzan y de Varias Peliculas De Disney,Quedo Perfecto El Video,Una Obra De Arte
TvPaint is such lovely lightweight and versatile program to work with, but very pricey.
c'est fantstique. sorry dont speak french... hope that was right, but anyway that video and the poeple who created it are awesome!
TVPaint Animation.
I noticed the touches of Disney looks and the "self injury" part on the drummers part HAS to be an aristocats reference lol
man i lovvvveeeee this video!!!
it's simply perfect :-)
I cant belive they got the studio that did Arcane.

I need those brushes.. How can I get those brushes!!

Impresionante.
