@@maxlippert4162 I see we share a great mind
Hey. That's cool and all. Me? This guys is the reason for all the rock and metal bands that I have never heard of which overtime though have become some of my favorite bands of all time as of today. But the fine print of it all is that I wouldn't have been listening to metal music as much as I have today if it wasn't for this guy.

It's because he has a good guitar
Right? Sometimes I keep wishing that he'd do some sort of a loop of that one good-ass rif from Ozzy's Crazy Train. [This was actually already done, but obviously not from him - here's the looped/extended version of the Riff I'm talking about: ua-cam.com/video/EwlR_6yq9OA/v-deo.html ]

Played 100 riffs so smooth that i thought u were playing 1 song
Glad I wasn't the only one who thought it!
Omg same
i thought the exact same, i just had it in the background while doing something,
This needs to be an official song and the title is 100 Riffs!!
TOOL - Own Genre
I like you
But it does mean that there were only 99 metal riffs... :D :D :D
My favourite metal genres are "not metal", "?" and thrash.
Tool's own genre is mostly related to rock and metal however just because of how it sounds.
Moonspell - ?
@Autistic Dolphin54 That is really debatable. Tool doesn't feel *that* progressive though. The drummer, Danny Carey is a really progressive drummer but other members are more Grunge/Alternative.
I always like to put Tool in the Psychedelic Metal/Art/Experimental Rock genre
3:24 That moment when you know what's coming next...
If you don't know whats coming that's just depressing.
jeff jay what if your just a cat
@@DylanLostaunau im pretty sure my cat knows this
I’m pretty sure my neighbor knows it too
i knew it was Judas, just from that Machine Gun drum fill
this guy has some extreme downpicking skill
+Bane64 xD wtf
good one
Is this why he didn't downpick Painkiller?
naaaahh... if you wanna see extreme downpicking skills check pete cottrell.....
i concur
By far the best thing that UA-cam has done by recommending this.
This guy deserves a lot of success… His memory and the database of riffs is amazing…
this is recorded years ago . where is this man ? this is a superstar right here . respect. this is some tight shit where is he, something new
agreed!
"Tool, own genre." That's a better explanation than most.
Shmergul Flargamish Pretty incredible how they've managed to carve out their own niche where no one really know what they are. And people still have the gall to say they're terrible. You don't have to enjoy their music to appreciate how good they are.
Hard prog rock on DMT has a kid with Pink Floyd and King Crimson and then that baby does DMT and 3 tabs of acid and makes an album.
indeed.
Some people think they're not Metal, but is so Metal for me...
tool does have a genre and its pretty eassy to deduct, is called progressive metal o math metal, the second due to its rythm complexity
instant like for hard work
2:53 PANTERA
Yeeeeeeees
Getcha Pull!!!!
I'm Japanese who like metal. Your playing is so awesome.
Thank to you play 100 metal riffs, I can know more various metal than I know.
Thanks for playing so cool!!
Sorry my poor English skills but I believe that my feeling can reach you.
す、すごい……。100個のリフを一曲にまとめ上げてしまうなんて。あなたのおかげで色々なメタルを知ることができました!
カッコいい演奏ありがとう!
That transition into painkiller was flawless
I'm impressed with the widespread knowledge of metal riffs you chose.
I feel the same.
0:47
That sounds more Megadeth than black metal
Sometimes I drift from metal. This was a refreshing slap in the face of all the amazing energy that I've missed. The two parts that I really enjoyed were the Tool cover that you clearly loved more than the others with your head bobbin and shit and the last riff where you relaxed because holy shit you just played lots of things. Bravo.
Good to see some Death on this list. Chuck was a riff beast.
Woolybear You can't say Death Metal without Death
@@5ar_ 86
Literally greates fucking band and Lead of all time. Fight me to DEATH if you disagree
Such a shame he died so young.
ua-cam.com/video/jqZDiBU2MPE/v-deo.html
3:25 Painkiller.
Yeeeeaaaah!
'Axe' Stelvin The moment I heard the Drum intro, I prepared for an Eargasm.
Nice Voice of perserverance pfp
Man he makes it looks so easy, makes me wanna play the guitar even more
I love the pain killer transition into moon spell it sounds so cool!
I’m really glad that you put The Thing That Should Not Be by Metallica instead of something like Enter Sandman or Master of Puppets because it’s such a crushing yet underrated riff that gets constantly overshadowed by other riffs. It’s refreshing to hear instead of expecting the same old riffs (not that they are bad riffs or anything; just get sick of having the same songs in the same list.).
Are you Keanu Riffs? Awesome video by the way
Sweet ass pun:)
SpaceCadet 0 pun?
Lol good one.
Fucking killed me XD
Keanu RIIIIIFFFFS 😂😂😂😂😂
I think what I love most about this is the translations to each song, so SMOOTH and yet everything is still HEAVY AS HELL
The fact you made so many of these flow into one another seamlessly is just fantastic. I was thoroughly entertained
Man, you make some of these older songs sound really fuckin good.
That's because they are
heat4yoass they sounded good to begin with.
I'm not the metalhead I thought I was. I know 24% of this
Im a metalhead and i know 21% and other bands which aren't in this film :-)
I think being a metalhead is being a fan of the music, you listen to it, like some bands, and understand it. I don't think it means liking all bands and knowing them all
Weird, I’m not really a metal head but I know ~50% but I listen to everything.
@@Hunter-si5bg lmao Megadeth was the 1st one
Same here ya fuckin pineapple fuck
This video is FIRE man. I really enjoy watching you playing. THX!!
10:05 Kansas is that you...?
Oh my God your right. Ik I'm a year late
Ahh how opeth stood out so uniquely I fucking love what that band used to do
they're a level above most other metal bands for sure
16:17
Rammstein - Buck Dich
ThevideOoLoadeR yep sounds just like it
Not quite the same, but I see where it's going
Lmaooo that's very similar
This a really great compendium - so useful as a guide to all the sub genres. So well played. Thank you.
You are amazing. Thanks to your 20 song band videos, I discovered almost everything about Megadeth, Metallica, Rammstein, and more. You are a really complete musician and an awesome performer. Thank you for your service
the question mark means that any classification for that band would be improper. I hear people say that children of bodom are melodic death metal since I was a kid. I still think that cob don't fit into a particular subgenre but they didn't invent one. so they won the "?". same thing for lamb of god, nevermore etc. I've put the genre just to add something more than the band name, riff name and the number. I don't give a damn about labels in music. anvil are heavy metal to me. if you think they're thrash that's fine, it's not a big problem to me because it's UNIMPORTANT
peace
I have always thought of Children of Bodom as a mix of Thrash or Shred and Melodic Death with a dash of Symphonic for good measure. But why muddy things with labels. They are a damn heavy so why not just enjoy the music. Or at least that's my opinion anyway.
+Taylor Smith good. that was the point taylor. thank you
COB - before HCDR are pretty much a darkened/deathened power-speed metal. Afterwards are more like MDM.
Also, Downfall is in standard D tuning, not drop C ;)
mario ok, I respect the classification, but that wasn't the point of the post. talking about the tuning I've tried to play more songs possibile with the least number of tuning changes. so I've put the tuning I was using in that moment, not the original used for the song. thanks for the clarification anyway
that's right, you played meshuggah withou an 8 string thats a big deal hahaha
Cemetery gates, always loved that riff.
You look so calm and relaxed, like playing one of the fastest riffs ever is simple af. Also hands down for including Metal Church - this is one of the most underrated metal bands ever imo. And Katatonia!
Was not expecting to see so many more obscure bands on here like Gothminister but I am not complaining, gave me more bands to listen to. Also had me worried for no Mastodon riff but you managed to throw one in near the end.
Ghost
"not properly metal" love it
I would take suicidal over D.R.I any day of the week, thank you very much. That's called opinion.
If any of all the bands that he covered in the video are on tour, and they need a stand-in this is the guy the should call.
eheh, it would be great
DUDE, the way you time this stuff and the songs you chose make it seem like all one epic song!
Man, your picking technique is freaking incredible. Great job!
Impressive. You should find a drummer to play along with you, that'd be so cool.
OMG thank you for putting Moonspell here, I am from their country, Portugal, and sometimes I think our "Portuguese metal" is a bit underrated, keep up the good work man, nice job
Alma mater..🍻
I thought, moonspell isnt Portuguese
Moonspell is an underrated band, I listen them since almost 20 years. Fernando’s lyrics are great and you can taste the rich musicianship of every band member. Once of the best metal bands not only from Portugal, but the world. Greetings from Mexico
Since I have discovered this video 2-3 weeks ago, it became my favorite video on youtube, everyday I am here... fantastic performance!
@@VaszkoNicolas I totally agree, the transitions make this video P E R F E C T
Love these videos man... Keep up the fantastic work
Great choices. I like that you kept an open mind. Well done, well played.
thank God you can actually play guitar unlike half the videos of this sort on UA-cam.
I like that we can listen to all the different riffs from different subgenres with the same basic sound; it makes it easier to compare and identify what is intrinsically different and what are just variations in production styles
I like that you kept in the drum solo for painkiller, such a sweet intro drop in :)
THANK YOU for putting tuning and metal genre on each song. It is very appreciated. :D
I'm disappointed there's no Gojira but you won my heart when you said "Devin's genius". :3
Still waiting on one thousand riffs
Excellent tone, excellent performance. You do all these classics a service :)
Dude, I really enjoyed this video. Introduced me to some new kickass music and your guitar technique is extremely good. Keep it up!
Awesome work man, a sick way of finding new bands and a wicked instrumental in its own right, I give it my two thumbs up of approval!
8:17 Even Manowar was remembered.
Man, you have so awesome job. Thanks for sharing it with all metal lovers around the world.
I love that Tool is its own genre, you are the best

Michael Moore no it is munge
@Michael Moore IDK man when you add the alternative metal elements you get something weird
Tool isn't metal, they themselves hate being labeled as metal.
@Michael Moore You act just like that other Michael Moore, what's with the name calling!?!
PsiClone 414 wtf. They also stopped animal testing. Just because the nazis did something doesn’t make it nazi behavior. Categorizing is something every human does. We are incredibly skilled at recognizing patterns so we put them into categories. Stop categorizing everyone who does something you don’t like as a nazi.
I like how tool is its own genre, so true haha
yes but it's still metal
it's heavy, but not metal. far from it, really
I've been listening to this video for literally years now and it's still awesome.
Best compilation brother!
The greatest riffs compilation ever. Most of them are not so well recognized yet being combined into like a structured song. I'm so much appreciated your true dedication. And your tone is great too. You rock \m/.
Will there be another 100 Metal Riffs?
Great video. So many memories here.
Very, very cool. I enjoyed every bit of this video...thanks for posting! Great guitar chops, fella!
Andrea you have tons of talent! you just made me found so many great songs in like just 10 minutes ... how you know all this songs is beyond ridiculous.
Clearing some '?':
Moonspell = Gothic / Doom / Death Metal
Lamb of God = Groove Metal
Children Of Bodon = Melodic Death Metal
And I'm pretty sure Hammerfall is Power Metal
Great choice of riffs btw.
Lamb of god is Modern Nu Metal. Pantera is groove metal.
+Yogen Grg Pantera is groove, but so is machine head, that doesn't make them equal. Lamb of God is also a different kind of groove, at least in my opinion.
Pantera went through a lot of genres throuhout its discography, it was a whole other sound in the 80s :)
Gabriel Sá Pinto lknoknojn
AMAZING MAN!! CONGRATULATIONS!!
I learned a lot of new songs, thanks a lot and great video!
Man! You make it look so easy. Great videos!
88 FUCK YEAH [3]
really wasn't expecting this one. Devin is God.
According to the riffs here, Devin is two times better than any other band ;)
Slayer was twice too
Strapping Young Lad!!! Fucking love Devin Townsend, he is my god
Oten Devin is one of my favs artists (you can clearly see it) the man never made a bad record and I cant wait for his symphony! I expect dicks and tits left, right and center xD
Yeah man Townsend is my favorite artist of all time
7:12 The riff that started it all
Love for 100s reasons!
Thanks for really melodic music that you represented.
I'm so happy you included Kamelot, they're honestly amazing!! And so are you! :D
For me the greatest metal riff In history is Black Sabbath from Black Sabbath. It's so fucking heavy.
Great pick indeed! For me it would be Cowboys from hell from Pantera. Heavy as fuck! :)
21:00 omg!!
The transitions in this video are so frickin smooth!
Incredible. Just from a performance perspective, flawless. This motivates me to practice more & I've been playing for 25 years.
Enjoyed this immensely. Lots of stuff I've never heard before, I'll have to check some of these bands out. Thanks!
Always nice to hear nice riffs nicely played. Keep up the good work :)

The transition of Helloween to Pantera was so perfect
Amazing ! Very nice transitions !!
I am making a playlist out of this, brilliant!
found this while trying to decide if I want to learn E-guitar or E-bass. I'm none the wiser, but now I have a 22 minute metal track in my library. you never know the kind of gold you find when you are looking for something.
The way he plays the main riff from The New Order by Testament is so addictive.
The way you move effortlessly from song to song is breathtaking!
