@@avenqer You are right, sporadic is the correct word. One good exemple is the British stoner metal band Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, especially the album "Blood Lust".
I'm so glad you chose Holy Diver for 1983. Honestly one of the best riffs I can imagine, but it seems to not get as much recognition as it deserves nowdays
yea its definitely a great riffs and it packs a punch. If I had to guess id say it probably doesn’t get much recognition anymore because its very simple and also in a higher register. also its 40 years old lol
@@Iffy50-Maybe Live Wire maybe, but I don't think the rest of that album is. Merry-Go-Round is a perfect example of many of the songs on that album and I'm not sure you can call many of those songs hard rock, much less metal. And, the album is called Too Fast For Love, if that is the one you are referring to as their debut album. Shout at the Devil, the same, there are some harder songs on there, but there are many songs that definitely aren't real metal. Maybe, the title track is the only one.

Truth. I like classic metal so let's be honest, Rhoads-era Ozzy buries rivals underfoot. There is no comparison. Judas Priest was a relative unknown in '80. Honestly, I still don't get it. I like Painkiller, but otherwise it kinda seems like their main contribution is the asthetic. Anyhow, obviously Ozzy.

Mr. Scary is probably one of the coolest guitar pieces ever written. The drumming that backs it up is also what got my younger self into metal drumming. Needs more love

The transition from the Ghost riff to Gojira was so satisfying and unexpected. That was too heavy, it sounded like it was a continuation of the song. Perfect transition.
man I absolutely love Painkiller but my favorite metal album from the 90s is Rust in Peace so I was really conflicted with that 1990 pick as it was approaching. I'm just glad you went with one of my two choices 😂

Yeah, why was Slayer omitted from the list! They were wildly more inspirational to the genre than most of that shit. Most of the bands in the 2000s wouldn't even sound the way they do or even exist without them. But from the looks of you, I kinda see why!

@@cornelius8617 Slayer, Pantera, Metallica and Megadeth are all bands that I've never really been a fan of, so it wouldn't be fair for me to include them on my own personal list. I mean they're the most popular Metal for a reason, cause people love them and that's awesome, but they're just not for me.
I play in a rock covers band. I'm of a certain age (mid 50's). A lot of my contemporaries will say one or other variation of 'Oh I never listen to anything after (Insert year here). This new music is all crap.' Those people drive me mad. It's not that the music stopped being good in their specified year. They are actually just listing the year that they died inside and stopped feeling new feelings. I pity them. Anyways, you just showed everyone how wrong those dead inside people are. Excellent video. Consider me subscribed. Stay classy brother..
I mean, you cant tell me that there isnt a stylistic change over the decades. More focus on the base drum, ever harder, faster riffs, screamier, growlier singing, etc. So, if you enjoyed early 80s metal, 2000s metal might not be your cup of tea. Or, in other words, while I enjoy NWoBHM I really dont like Death Metal. Or Nu Metal. Doesnt mean that there arent modern songs I enjoy, but I have to look a bit more. And hope for Maiden to keep bringing it. Styles fall out of fashion, but they dont disappear.

I remember Static-X's announcement of Project Regeneration back in 2018. I was already super excited as a huge fan of the band, but I just got more excited as they played snippets of the new songs. Something Of My Own, in just the short few seconds we heard, became one of my favorite Static-X songs and I couldn't wait for the entire song. I was getting angsty to hear it with constant delays, both with the band finding more scrapped material and legal issues with one of the former guitarists, but after nearly 2 years of waiting, the album dropped and I immediately went to Something Of My Own, and all my expectations were met. Little did I know the entire album was also fantastic, some I can't believe were originally scrapped. May Wayne rest peacefully \m/

Great video. I would also put some riffs from Tool and Machine Head in 90’. This bands had influenced metal so much, that I believe we would not have bands like Gojira without them.

i was thinking the same... all my favorite songs in this video.. man!! 1980 is a hard one though, sabbath priest, ozzy, saxon maiden, even scorpions had wicked albums in that year... come to think of it i never actually thought about sabbath (non-ozzy sabbath) and ozzy both releasing two of my favorite albums in the same year

i like the song choices! 2015 would have easily been BTBAM's Coma Machine chorus riff for me and I think i might have subbed Bodies by Drowning Pool in for 2001 and BYOB instead for SOAD's inclusion at 2005. Children of Bodom is a fantastic inclusion though! good stuff
I am such an old soul. I was born in 1988; had no issues recognising anything from 1980 up til 1995, then I was only able to recognise about 3 songs after that lol
Funny, I was born in 1967 and kind of thought Pantera 1994 was it for me. But then came Korn...and Avenged Sevenfold...and Ghost...and Five-Finger Death Punch. I've really enjoyed all of those bands even though my core is Metallica/Megadeth/Maiden/Priest.
After the mid 90s it all sounds very similar, dark and chug-a-chug-chug. There must be some good stuff out there that isn't overlaid by screaming, right?
Congrats friend, for the usual quality and yet another great video. Don't you think Queensryche deserved a mention for 1988 and Dream Theater for 1992 or 1999? Some of the most influential albums were released in those years by these bands.
I know they aren't tried and true metal acts, but Tool and Dream Theater have some riffs that fit in well here. Wouldn't have included them, but fun nonetheless

Only thing I hated about that part of the video/the ENTIRE VIDEO, was getting ready to head bang like a maniac once the next riff comes in, you know the 1 after Chuck adds the 5th played with the root (that main riff but harmonized with the 5th on top of the roots/regular riff, aka a good old power chord in English haha, or for non theory nerds unlike myself lol, but literally just the variation of it before our absolute shredder here switches songs lol.. But everyone plays root/5th chords in metal of course, but hell they're a staple in MANY genres!! So hopefully any1 reading this gets my super overcomplicated explanation of that hahaha) But ANYWAY... yall know the riff after that I'm talking that would come next... the chugging/gallop-esque riff with the NASTY pinch harmonic/squeal in it. That ultimately leads into "Human, at sight, monster at heart, don't let it inside, it could tear you right a-PART!!!!" Then enter dirtyyyyy slide and proceeding slow, heavy&massive open power chord riff with the even NASTIER pinch harmonic that Chuck bends up while belting out "CRUSHERRRRRRRAAAHHHH!!!!" Hehe... I know my explanation was way long winded, my bad. Just love that part. One of my favorite sections of any Death song in general actually, maybe my #1 favorite! So sorry for that long explanation again haha, but hey... "NO, GUILT!!! IT FEEDS IN PLAIN SIGHT, SPIIRRRITTTT.... CRUUUSHHHHEERRRRRRAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" ;) -Absurd drum lick and bass riff entered the chat. Hahahaha. Seriously though, Chuck was a genius, so kind, gentle and humble as well. It still just crushes my heart that he's gone... he was only just STARTING his prime Era of writing/playing, IMO at least. It really hurts me a LOT to think of how much more amazing music he would have put out.... I'm grateful for what we did get, but still.... just why man :( why so damn young did he have to be taken from us??? :( and of ALL these dudes, so many which are still alive and well (some barely hanging around now ha) it HAD to be the dude that didn't abuse drugs... just smoked a little herb.... like damn it man. The money could been so easily saved up to save his life too.... a damn shame. But you know what.... he sure as hell saved my life with his music. The transition from the Ghost riff to Gojira was so satisfying and unexpected. That was too heavy, it sounded like it was a continuation of the song. Perfect transition.

Yeah, why was Slayer omitted from the list! They were wildly more inspirational to the genre than most of that shit. Most of the bands in the 2000s wouldn't even sound the way they do or even exist without them. But from the looks of you, I kinda see why!

I play in a rock covers band. I'm of a certain age (mid 50's). A lot of my contemporaries will say one or other variation of 'Oh I never listen to anything after (Insert year here). This new music is all crap.' Those people drive me mad. It's not that the music stopped being good in their specified year. They are actually just listing the year that they died inside and stopped feeling new feelings. I pity them. Anyways, you just showed everyone how wrong those dead inside people are. Excellent video. I mean, you cant tell me that there isnt a stylistic change over the decades. More focus on the base drum, ever harder, faster riffs, screamier, growlier singing, etc. So, if you enjoyed early 80s metal, 2000s metal might not be your cup of tea. Or, in other words, while I enjoy NWoBHM I really dont like Death Metal. Or Nu Metal. Doesnt mean that there arent modern songs I enjoy, but I have to look a bit more. And hope for Maiden to keep bringing it.
Styles fall out of fashion, but they dont disappear.

I remember Static-X's announcement of Project Regeneration back in 2018.
I was already super excited as a huge fan of the band, but I just got more excited as they played snippets of the new songs.
Something Of My Own, in just the short few seconds we heard, became one of my favorite Static-X songs and I couldn't wait for the entire song.
I was getting angsty to hear it with constant delays, both with the band finding more scrapped material and legal issues with one of the former guitarists, but after nearly 2 years of waiting, the album dropped and I immediately went to Something Of My Own, and all my expectations were met.
Little did I know the entire album was also fantastic, some I can't believe were originally scrapped.

I’ve watched a few of these “metal riffs throughout the years” and I love how 2003 is almost always unholy confessions. Such an iconic riff

Great video. I would also put some riffs from Tool and Machine Head in 90’. This bands had influenced metal so much, that I believe we would not have bands like Gojira without them.

i like the song choices! 2015 would have easily been BTBAM's Coma Machine chorus riff for me and I think i might have subbed Bodies by Drowning Pool in for 2001 and BYOB instead for SOAD's inclusion at 2005. Children of Bodom is a fantastic inclusion though! good stuff
I am such an old soul. I was born in 1988; had no issues recognising anything from 1980 up til 1995, then I was only able to recognise about 3 songs after that lol
Funny, I was born in 1967 and kind of thought Pantera 1994 was it for me. But then came Korn...and Avenged Sevenfold...and Ghost...and Five-Finger Death Punch. I've really enjoyed all of those bands even though my core is Metallica/Megadeth/Maiden/Priest.
Symphony of Destruction was it for me. Night and day after that.
After the mid 90s it all sounds very similar, dark and chug-a-chug-chug. There must be some good stuff out there that isn't overlaid by screaming, right?

Only thing I hated about that part of the video/the ENTIRE VIDEO, was getting ready to head bang like a maniac once the next riff comes in, you know the 1 after Chuck adds the 5th played with the root (that main riff but harmonized with the 5th on top of the roots/regular riff, aka a good old power chord in English haha, or for non theory nerds unlike myself lol, but literally just the variation of it before our absolute shredder here switches songs lol.. But everyone plays root/5th chords in metal of course, but hell they're a staple in MANY genres!! So hopefully any1 reading this gets my super overcomplicated explanation of that hahaha)
But ANYWAY... yall know the riff after that I'm talking that would come next... the chugging/gallop-esque riff with the NASTY pinch harmonic/squeal in it. That ultimately leads into "Human, at sight, monster at heart, don't let it inside, it could tear you right a-PART!!!!"
Then enter dirtyyyyy slide and proceeding slow, heavy&massive open power chord riff with the even NASTIER pinch harmonic that Chuck bends up while belting out "CRUSHERRRRRRRAAAHHHH!!!!"
