    A friend had this play at his wifes funeral. They had found each other and were this perfect match. It was a such a joy to see them together. One night he went to bed while she was watching TV, he woke up and she wasn't in bed. He went in the living room and found her stone dead. It broke him, naturally. When this played at the funeral we all cried, and I can't hear it without thinking of them now.

    • @crawdaddy1234

      Probably because they weren’t part of the Grunge Era. They didn’t release their first album until several years after Soundgarden broke up (1997). They were more part of the Post-Grunge Era - basically “grunge with cleaner vocals and guitars.”

    • @Trepanation21
      @Trepanation21 5 місяців тому +3

      Seether is definitely not "in the conversation about top tier grunge" because they came after that era. They're very comfortably in the later end of the "post-grunge" genre, which was basically simultaneous to nu-metal. However bands like Bush, Live, Silverchair, of course Foo Fighters, Collective Soul, and Candlebox are probably the foundations of "post-grunge", with additional highlights from bands like Creed and early Nickleback (can't stand them, but Leader of Men is a great song, and the first Creed album is proper excellent). Anyway.

    "Broken" was originally written for Seether's debut album "Disclaimer" in 2002. In 2004, Shaun and Amy reworked it for this masterpiece.

      Yeah, originally it was just a completely acoustic song. Then this version added the electric guitars and strings. I thought that Amy was the one who arranged the strings.

      I still prefer the original version. This one got so overplayed. It didn’t help that when I was working at Champs Sports at the time, it was on one of our videos, so I’d hear numerous times a day for about 6 weeks. Have a renewed appreciation for it, but I just like the original so much more.

    I almost wanted her to just watch the whole thing first without commenting just to see her reactions to it in the moment of the song in its entirety.
    Their intonation and inflection in what they're singing is amazing. This song is nothing short of a masterpiece in all forms.
    And yeah, there was plenty of emotions running wild in this one.

    Seether helped me survive my trauma, I started listening to them in the height of my ... low points (quite low, low points). Shawn's voice managed to touch me in a way nothing else did (until I found breaking benjamin) and helped me manage /navigate though a lot of anger and pain i had yet to recognize.

    I WISH I could experience this song for the first time again. But at the same time, I still feel like it's the first time every time I hear it!
    This song was a big milestone in my life. I was an angsty, lonely 14-year-old when this song came out and was discovering hard rock and heavy metal (including Evanescence), and the way that those opening guitar chords hit me when I first saw this video is still indescribable. I remember spending a week at summer camp and listening to this song over and over on my store-brand MP3 player, relishing my solitude but also thinking about how distant and lonely I felt from my life during that week.
    I still get chills and goosebumps listening to this now and hearing it through the eyes and ears of your incredible analysis. Thanks for doing this one!
