  • In this episode of our restaurant review vlog we enjoy New Orleans BBQ shrimp at Pascal's Manale. Pascal's Manale is a New Orleans Creole Italian restaurant that invented BBQ shrimp. You are invited to join me as I show you what to do in New Orleans for lunch when you need BBQ shrimp, turtle soup, chicken Parmesan and a seafood combination pan roast. Pascal's Manale is one of the best restaurants in New Orleans and if you are looking for what to do in New Orleans this is a great spot.

      They sold again to Dickie Brennan so hopefully they get back up to full steam.

      They keep that recipe "secret" so if they told me I wouldn't be allowed to leave and I would have to stay in the kitchen 😀👍

    Another one of my favorite restaurants in the city! Some years back they had a special called Oysters Florentine (appetizer). It was, essentially, the same thing as Eggs Benedict...but instead of an egg, they had fried oysters on top...covered in Hollandaise sauce. It was outstanding. The next time I came back, it was not on the menu. But I inquired about it and they made it for me again. So I've had it twice. I was hoping to see it on the menu here. - The Commodore

    The last time I was in New Orleans in 2019 I got a Lucky Dog on the spur of the moment and it was the most delicious hot dog I’ve ever had or else I was really hungry! Lol. I will of course come back to that very unique city but all you see and hear is the crime reports. Crime is everywhere in the world and it’s a great disservice to the hardworking business owners who have to take the financial hit from a slow down of tourists to that wonderful city.

      The crime is a result of the current mayor and DA not enforcing the law to the point most of the police have quit. So we have about an 8 hour response time for 911 calls these days. Still some good things to see and do but you definitely have to be a lot more careful amd assume responsibility for protecting yourself. My neighbor got her car window busted out like so many people these days and somehow I haven't had it happen yet.

      @@NOLAGent1 So sad. I see all the news bulletins about Mayor Cantrell and wonder how she’s still in office? I’ve been coming to New Orleans since 1989 and I’ve never had an issue of any kind. That being said, I’m always aware of my surroundings, I’m with other people, I don’t carry a billfold or wear any jewelry, I carry a little cash and my drivers license in my front pocket and I never over imbibe on alcohol. Being self aware is what you need to do anywhere you’re visiting. I learned years ago when the street hustlers start trying to scam you all you have to do is say I’m a local and they immediately back off and find another tourist.

      @Todd Giaro A lot of BIG conventions have cancelled because of the violent crime that happened to the people attending their events! Apparently we got enough signatures on the petition to recall the mayor but I'm not sure anything better will get elected so we will see.

    It's been a long time since we've been to NOLA. Pre Katrina. Looking forward to getting back in the next few years. Never got to Pascale's Manale but di the Emirle route and Commander's Palace along with numerous dive spots. First experience for New Orleans BBQ Shrimp was at a place called The Alpine on Chartres St. It has since closed but a really good take on the classic New Orleans dish. I make a version of it here in Massachusetts since our last time that has rosemary and paprika(more for color than anything) Every place has their own version and that's a good thing!! Thanks

      Many new places have opened and many older ones have closed but the remaining classics are still my favorites.

      @@NOLAGent1 thanks. I lived in the original Zorro house. It was carved up into 4 apartments. Shortly I joined the Air Force

      @@kennethfox1586 I thought about the Air Force but then did Army and later as I heard things from my friends that went Air Force I really wish I would have done Air Force. I heard that in Air Force basic training things called "steaks" were served and there were weekends off where you got to wear civilian clothes! I never saw a steak served during my time in the army and clearly the Air Force would have been a better choice for the food alone 😀

    How did the BBQ shrimp compare to Mr. B's? I've never eaten at either restaraunt. But am taking notes for when I come to visit. :)

      Pascal's is the original and it is also my father's favorite restaurant so for that I would have to choose the Pascal's but they got bought out so we will see how that works out and my turtle soup was definitely not like it used to be...

      Not to worry. It's a good excuse for me to try both. I hope the food under Pascal's new ownership is to your dad's liking. I know it's always a gamble when someone new steps in. You were a brave soul eating the stringy turtle soup. What a surprise!

    That turtle soup looked slimy af. Must have been good though. That shrimp looks soo good!!!

    • @NOLAGent1
      @NOLAGent1  3 роки тому

      It wasn't slimy the meat was just really stringy. NEVER had it like that before at Pascal's Manale. With the restaurant being sold and then the pandemic hitting it has been hard to get staff and things are not always up to the standards we were used to before all this. I hope they get the turtle soup back on track as I have been eating it a long time and it never looked anything like what I got on this day. I don't want to kick any place down while we are in the terrible situation while I still have to give an honest review of the place based on many years of experience with them. The shrimp is still HUGE and delicious and very messy fun to eat :)

    This guy is terrible. We're just watching some guy eat. No commentary, flavor description, explanation, review... I've eaten there once and it was amazing. Hope to go back again
