NEW ORLEANS - One of the the best New Orleans foods to eat for a quick meal is a po’ boy, one of the signature style sandwiches in New Orleans Louisiana. Before going to New Orleans, I thought a po’ boy (or poor boy, po’boy) was a fried shrimp sandwich New Orleans, but I learned it’s not only shrimp, but you could have deli meats, roast beef, oyster, grilled shrimp, or even cheese and turkey. There are many types of po’ boys and in this ultimate Po’ Boy tour we’ll be eating at five places and trying five different types of po’ boys.
Thanks to Derek Robinson, my brother in law for featuring in this video. He roasts amazing coffee: / dereksips
Here are the po' boys:
1. Guy's Po-Boys (goo.gl/maps/jkqdd23NY9mFHs6S6) Price - around $13 per po-boy - We started off at Guy's Po-Boys and I think it’s one of the best places in all of New Orleans for po’boys. We tried both the grilled shrimp, fried shrimp, and the fried catfish. They were all three spectacular, though I think the best was the grilled shrimp.
2. Domilise's Po-Boy & Bar (goo.gl/maps/9R2T59hChdk65coBA) - Shrimp po’ boy - $15 - One of the oldest and most historical places to eat at sandwich in New Orleans in Domilise's Po-Boy & Bar. I tried the fried shrimp and the roast beef, both of which were delicious. So much character at this neighborhood favorite.
3. R & O Restaurant and Catering (g.page/RORestaurantCatering?s...) - Roast beef po’ boy - $10.30 - Next up on this po’boy tour in New Orleans, we went to R & O Restaurant and Catering specifically for their famous roast beef poor boy. It was huge and loaded with roast beef, and totally unique sandwich eating experience.
4. Liuzza's by the Track (goo.gl/maps/YFgWKRCykx9GRuK27) - BBQ shrimp po’ boy - $15.95 - Next we tried Liuzza's by the Track for their New Orleans grilled shrimp po’boy. I wasn’t sure exactly how to eat it, but it was tasty and that was an extremely addictive sauce.
5. Parkway Bakery & Tavern (goo.gl/maps/qCx6mhMD31kzuzsp6) - Oyster po’ boy - $18.49 - Finally to complete this New Orleans food tour, we tried the oyster po’boy from Parkway Bakery & Tavern, which is one of the most famous restaurants in New Orleans. The oysters were tasty, especially with a lot of Louisiana hot sauce.
And that completes this iconic tour of the best Po’ boys in New Orleans!

Mark, I was your cashier at the Exxon store in Fairview, NC a few days ago. I thought you looked familiar but did not know where from until tonight. Thank you for being so nice and courteous as you are. You deserve millions of views!!
it happens i didn't realize i met so many famous celebrities either till someone told me later on. Like i passed by Samuel Jackson while he was wearing a funky hat on.
I was inside a Stretch Limousine hanging out with Paula Abdul & had no idea who she was.... #FACT
Nice
He is one of the most likeable personalities...
Hands down...
Nice
Mark’s sister and brother-in-law seem like wonderful souls. They clearly love their family and some food fun!
Bro how much you smoke to eat like that 😒
Im from New Orleans but live on Okinawa and own a New Orleans style restaurant. Last time I was home, I gained 10 pounds in 2 Weeks. Love my city. Thank you for showing da world our amazing food.
This guy's enthusiasm is great. If you love food you can't go wrong in NOLA
Ying was teaching Micah at that restaurant. How cute!
Love Derek and the family. True foodie right there.
We met mark and his family at Guys while he was filming, super nice and genuine. Also if a fly ain't attacking your food I don't want it lol.
But would you still eat your food if a fly landed on your food?🧐😂
@@graciamaria9218 indeed ;) what doesn’t kill u make u stronger my friend

I recently started watching your videos. I have to say, I really enjoy when your brother-in-law is with you. You play off each other very well.
As a lifelong New Orleanian, Mark pretty much hit the nail on the head. This type of enthusiasm can't be faked. What a great video! My favorite po-boys are Liuzza's By thge Track's BBQ shrimp po-boy, Guy's grilled shrimp po-boy and the not mentioned roast beef po-boy from the Original Fiorella's Cafe.
YES! Exactly! R.I.P. Jimmy owner of Liuzza's. Also have the best Bloody Mary's
All you keep getting is that nasty shrimp what's the point
Dude, Marvin was a character. I'd love to meet a guy like that with that much passion when they make food XD.
He needs to wear gloves.
Micha trynna yoink the sweet potato pie lmao 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 He literally grew up before our eyes. Remember when he was stuck 2 marks chest lol
Its so true. I remember when Ying was pregnant with him. And she went with Mark everywhere like a real trooper. I love to see the growth and Mark making a living off of what he loves with his family along for the journey!
😹😹😹 yes Micah was ready to snatch that pie up ! He dropped that sandwich so QUICK lmaooo so cute
Aww, I definitely remember! I also remember before Ying was pregnant and they had that tiny white dog. They showed the dog often and would always incorporate him in some way. They’re such sweet humans 💖
@@mizzstizzie I love their family dynamic. The way he cares for them and they way Ying supports him in doing what he loves is beautiful tbh.
I have always found Derrick's description really good. His choice of words is spot on. He can be a professional food reviewer in his own right.
Mark your tast in food is unmatched. Your description of mouth watering gastric delight makes the food even more detectable. Most of all your respect for others is so heartwarming. I salute you!
The flys made my nerves bad! You know you’re something special when Mark does three different episodes covering New Orleans food!❤️❤️❤️
Ten wouldn't be too many. New Orleans food is incredible!

Hello beautiful, how are you doing
And Mark's niece and nephew are just so adorable. Not to mention Micah being a little doll.
& his son feeding him the dropped pieces of shrimp, so adorable!! I always enjoy when Mark’s sisters family is involved ♥️ they’re a treat whenever they’re on.

My dad passed away recently 💔 today is his wake. Before he passed away he introduced Mark Wiens to me and ever since then I’ve been watching Mark on UA-cam and I’m officially one of your fans and subscribers. Thanks dad I will miss you dearly.
So far...I LOVE Guys! I am a Shrimp lover and these sandwiches are making me go Crazy! Also, Domilise's....LOVE the shrimp Po'Boys! R&O's with Italian Roast Beef Po' Boys and juicy gravy...yum! Love the great pickles added for spice. Then Liuzza's Lounge and Grill....BBQ Oyster Shrimps...another soft spot with me! Finishing with Parkway Bakery and Tavern and OMG...Barq's Root Beer! Haven't had one in many years! So FUN to watch and be reminded of stuff I LOVE and haven't had for a long time! So FUN to watch your episodes, Mark....THANK YOU!
I'm a native of New Orleans. Watching this episode made me a bit home sick. My favorite po-boy is the Oyster Po-boy. Really enjoyed this tour of New Orleans, thanks Mark.
"Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans?":-)
@@007ndc Yes I do.
Have u tried any of them places
@@1spankytc I've been to Guy's before. But a lot of the places that I love aren't around anymore.
@@007ndc love it. Rick Nelson.
OMG ...How do people LIVE without GREAT poboys?!....Love Marvin..he IS typical New Orleanian❤️
My taste buds and stomach were already homesick...but when I saw the Liuzza's BBQ shrimp at 27:31, part of me died inside. WAY too many memories came flooding back. All that this video needed was a stop at a drive through Daiquiri's. ;)
Really impressed with Mark's warmth, friendliness and good manners.
The young legend carrying the juice container behind Mark at the 2nd stop before the fries did it for me! This place is family iconic! I love it!!!
It's awesome how many times he commented on the bread. I'm born and raised in nola, and the ingredients of a po boy can be replicated, but the bread can't. I moved away about 15 years ago and I've had "po boys" from around the country. No one can get the bread right. It's the difference.
Leidenheimer is the bread. It now ships to much of the country. They provide most of the French bread in the city with daily deliveries…worthy of their own piece for sure. #leidenheimerbread
This is true with so many sandwiches from various places. I live near Philly and whenever I see a "Philly Cheesesteak" anywhere outside 30 miles from Philly, I know it will be a dissapointment as the bread just won't be "right."
You're right, there's sandwich shops (and restaurants) in cities outside of New Orleans which have sandwiches made with baguette or some other kind of hoagie type bread and call them "poboys" but that's a misnomer, if it's not made with NEW ORLEANS French bread (specifically, Leidenheimer), IT'S NOT AN AUTHENTIC POBOY! 🥖 ❤ 😋 ⚜️
My folks said it has something to do with the sea level
@@Koa808, they say it's from the barometric air pressure and humidity unique to New Orleans!
Y'all don't know how much this warms our hearts to see you loving our Po'Boys! I am from the Acadiana region of Louisiana...about 2 hours west of New Orleans. YOU HAVE TO COME TO OUR AREA! The food is 2nd to none and you would get some some of our unique foods like Boudin. I love how you say New Orleans and Po'Boys...Somebody schooled you right. lol I also like that the music in your New Orleans videos are on point. I have enjoyed you for years and have taken your advice when traveling around the world! You seem like the best guy and I wish you and the family continued success!!! Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler!!!!
Oh Mark! I loved all the resteraunts! Glad you had a grilled shrimp po'boy. The craftsman sandwich maker in the first resteraunt just loved what he was doing like he said. Really could tell. The second resteraunt was great as well. The Italian roast beef po'boy had so much juice meat so tender reminds me of French Dip in the Aujus!!!! But my favorite po'boy is the oyster at Parkway at the end of tour. Just looked so good. All the resteraunts had their own character and alot of fun. Just seems like the people in the south are so friendly.
The secret is leidenheimers bread. Liuzza’s by the track. Best BBQ po-boy ever. So glad I saw you eating it in intro. I am also from New Orleans. Good choices. Love watching you , love our city. Thanks for coming.
Nice place
Lienheimers is by far the best bread! I also live in NOLA all my life!
im glad the locals approve of the restaurants
I agree 100% it’s the bread. I was born & raised in New Orleans & you can not get a PO boy like u can get in New Orleans
And it’s because of the bread. I make fried crawfish tail PO boys and I can’t get the same French bread where I live in Arizona.
Yess! Every family reunion my parents give any outside family a leidenheimers loaf
New Orleans has some of the best sandwiches in the world. I used to visit at least once a month when I lived in Mobile, Alabama.
That’s what I love about po’boy sandwiches! Not only are they absolutely delicious but it’s the fact that they don’t skimp on the ingredients. Especially, the seafood or meat! They’re worth the price, believe it!
Mark’s always so complimentary to all. Thanks people so many times. Lovely young man with a big appetite! These videos are wonderful.
Respect to the provider of the kitchen roll 🙌🏼 that right there is someone who understands the needs of ordinary humans
The second place has all elderly people serving and preparing food and helping in the restaurant. its like the Grandparents food place and i am sure its damn good !!!
Facts 💯💯💯
Good spotting!
That really made an impression on me, too.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they were very much younger when they originally started working there.
You know it’s good lol
YEP!!!!
Yeah!

I like Mark because he's a proud foodie. My mother rest her sold was one of the best soul food cooks I know and she would have loved to cook for Mark.
Additional chilli sauce hahaha. A man after my own heart...
They need to put English mustard or horseradish with the beef one... that would be complete perfection. ❤🥰
Mark Weinstein you made it to my home new Orleans Louisiana been here 40 yrs an still going strong been watching over 10 yrs keep it up mark madd luv from my city an me
watching Mark's expressions on his first bite is always my favourite hahah
You know it's good when Mark has mayo and sauces at the corner of his mouth. It's so good that it doesn't even matter. What matters is the taste and it looks pretty darn good to me. Dang mark right after eating fried shrimp poboys and grilled chicken and catfish poboys he walks to the next restaurant like 5 minutes away. I don't understand how mark stays so fit the way he does. God bless you Mark you and your wife and Mikah , Micah must be so big. I think you should show more of Micah in your videos. I have watched for years of watching Micah growing, maybe you can teach him the tricks of the trade. Micah can be a you tube sensation as well.
I just love this guy he’s so humble so and so sweet, I watch all your videos I like the places you travel to and the foods you get to eat for us ,your family are so beautiful , thank you for sharing your videos with us blessings to you and yours.
Yes Mark is lucky to have such a great family, and extended family
Yess
My grandfather was born in La Place, my grandmother in Bayou La Fourche, my father in Naawlins. It's like a different country when you go there. A food experience you can't explain. Mark, I love your videos, my friend. When you bit into that po boy it made my mouth water. Oh WOW!! .. I'm glad you ordered large, LARGE is how they do it there!! Another great video I got to see!!
I just found Mark this morning and have been watching for hours! He is so pleasant and I really like the way he does brief history lessons so you can not only taste what he's eating, you understand where it came from! Favorite, favorite thing...his whole face smiles when he smiles. Even with food all over it!!!! Perfect!
Through Mark I am traveling the world. Experiencing amazing food and people!!
Thanks Mark!
Marvin is the Man! True professional!
I don’t know about everyone else, this food reviews has my mouth watering Looks delicious
Love your positivity and just overall love for the game of food! Keep it up Mark!
I love the non formal way you showcase everything. It gives your show that homestyle family feel. I’m loving it.
I've been watching Mark for q few years now, and I don't think I have missed one video. I can't express how much it meant that he came to Jersey and Philly. I live 5 mins away from the Betsy Ross Bridge. In case some aren't familiar, that is the bridge from Camden NJ to Philadelphia. It was amazing to see places I have eaten at, and now he has as well. Also much respect for his talent, appreciation of the food and the history, and the quality of his videos, and also the research he puts in before embarking on his food travels. It was great to see
Jersey/Philly in his videos. Great job as always Mark.
To the old guy in the background wearing the red shirt at 20:40 carrying the tub of flour or whatever. Good for you man, still at it doing a job most teenagers couldn’t do! Legend
I actually went back to the video to see what you were talking about, and there he was... looking like he was struggling to carrying the bin, but he still looked to have a smile on his face. Bravo to you for seeing that. It shows you're also a person, who is into the details surrounding you. That's where people show if they're engaged in life or simple existing. Thank you for sharing that detail and have a blessed day!
I peeped him too. He immediately took my attention away from Mark lol.
I live close-by. He rides his bicycle through the neighborhood every day after he finishes work. So cool. They are the real deal.
The “shredded” roast beef in po-boys is known as “debris,” and any good seafood/po-boy place has a roll of paper towels on every table.
Thank you for visiting my home city, Mark!
Could take him to 20 more great sandwich shops. He did his homework.
The in laws son did for me "dad u drop a piece and the wave..lol..
People can ask.( napkins ect)
Very critical....
Common sense.
Geez...only thing you could find wrong huh?????
They are the BEST!!!!! To people outside New Orleans who want to make poboys at home....you MUST use French bread....no other bread will suffice. It is the "backbone" of the sandwich and there is no substitute ;)
And you have to pronounce debris like the locals!! ❤
Thank you for this video! An incredible journey through Po'Boy history. Very well done.
Nice to see you feature the Po Boy sandwiches, Mark! Marvin and Guy's was really cool and made a great Po Boy...cool of him to swing by while y'all were eating to give you a sweet potato pie! The other places looked delicious also, but that one shrimp sandwich sure looked difficult to eat. Nice to see the families together again. 😊
I'm so happy for this series Mark! You made me cry so much when you said that you came here! I wish I could've met you! My favorite po boy is the hot sausage and the roast beef! Our hot sausage is called charice sausage, our version of a chorizo sausage which is purchased in patties and links! Love it! You need to try our barbecue shrimp too! You're going to get your money's worth when you're here in the Big Easy so no shortage of meat. We're notorious for overstuffed poboy, that's our thing!
I am a Louisiana transplant from Alabama. I am soooo enjoying your video of all the Po’ boys in New Orleans. Lucky for me I can order one to be delivered!! I can’t believe how much ya’ll ate! Soon after moving here someone described the French bread as “the outside almost cuts your lips but the inside is soft and chewy” Indescribably delicious!!
I've seen this video many times, but it's so fun watching your first bite of the roast beef poboy. Brings back the best memories
It’s heartwarming to hear all my peoples Beautiful accents in the background
It always amazes me how much Mark can eat. Those were huge po'boys and the prices were really good. I want a catfish po'boy now!
He doesn't eat it all in one day he saves it or just tosses it .
Shame really.
@@doink.2052 lol no he don't. Ying and the son eats it as well.
He definitely has some techniques to keep eating even when he's full, judging by the fact he also has a video on how to keep eating while full.

The bread used for po’ boys in New Orleans are unlike bread you will find anywhere else. It is unique in its texture and not like normal French bread. Restaurants get them daily from local bakeries.
Po'Boys are a new Orleans take on the French Dip sandwich because French Dips got their start as cheap sandwiches because they we made with day old or slightly stale harder bread that would normally be used for croutons or be thrown away but because it was old they could sell the sandwiches cheaper and the best way to eat them because the bread was so hard is they served them with a small cup of meat Drippings know as Aus-Jeau which would soften up the bread and add flavor after the French influence became popular in Louisiana it was a very similar scenario people needed to eat food for a good price and restaurants and bakeries that had day old or older stale bread began selling what was known as Po'Boys these were very cheap sandwiches using much older bread that was available to people that were poor so all of the expensive items the meats and vegetables could still be circulated as often as possible so they wouldn't go stale or go bad but without having to throw away good bread that they were not able to sell and didn't get any money for
🤔🤫
@@ZION73082 NO....
Po Boys are made on FRESH FRENCH BREAD...

LOST BREAD....PAIN PERDU

Pain perdu was originally

POBOYS ARE NAMED FOR THE CHEAP SANDWICHES MADE TO SUPPORT A STREETCAR STRIKE..
REPUTEDLY THEY ORIGINATED AT MARTIN'S....
AND WERE ORIGINALLY CALLED "POOR BOYS" FOR THE STRIKERS WHO WERE BEING SCREWED FINANCIALLY...
BUT IT MORPHED INTO PO'BOY BECAUSE OF THE LOCAL DIALECTS

In New Orleans, if the flies don't go for your food, it's not good enough to eat. ;)
