- New Orleans style barbecue shrimp isn't bbq at all, but it is a great shrimp dish. Pascal's Manale restaurant in New Orleans invented the dish in the mid 50's, and it's remained an iconic dish throughout the years. Try this recipe at home on the grill, the stove top, or oven.
If using a grill, like the M Grills M16, set it up for a two zone grilling method. If using the stove top, you can just control the heat with the knobs on your stove. It's also easy in the oven. Just set your oven to 350*, and place shrimp in a pan, and pour the sauce of them. Bake till the shrimp are finished.
1/2LB of 16/20 fresh shrimp
1/2LB Unsalted butter
6TBS Worcestershire sauce
2TBS Minced garlic
2TBS Black pepper
2TBS Beer
1/2TBS Creole seasoning
1TSP Hot sauce
1/2TSP Kosher salt
1 Lemon
Heat skillet over medium to high heat. Melt half of the butter, but don't let it separate. Add worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, and whisk till well blended. Then add dry seasoning, hot sauce, mix well, add hot sauce and beer, and mix well. Mix in the remaining butter and a slice of lemon. Bring to a light boil, and add shrimp. Cook shrimp for a couple minutes, flip, add more black pepper, and cook for a couple more minutes until the shrimp are done. Serve with some toasted french bread slices. Garnish with lemon juice (grill the half lemon if using a grill), and finely sliced green onions. Enjoy it with a group of friends and family.

I was so spoiled when you were just a wee pop up on the Northshore. King Status, Chef. So proud. Miss that those days
So refreshing to see someone that "really knows" how to make New Orleans style BBQ shrimp ( no bbq sauce used) 🤣Man, when you used all that butter, and said heavy on the black pepper, that was all it took for me to know you were making the real deal!!! That is my absolute favorite way to eat shrimp. It just don't get any better and big props for doing that over coals and not breaking the butter! Excellent video brother!!! I'm sharing this one for sure!
Thank you Rus. It's definitely one of my favorite nola dishes. I appreciate the support.
The recipe recap at the end is very helpful! Thank you for this video.
Can't wait to try thanks for the recipe
Great video! My husband has been perfecting his BBQ shrimp, and this process was ON POINT! Love your style and kind nature, too.
Looks great! Thank you for the history lesson on Barbeque shrimp's origin.
Just made this. Excellent taste. My first try with another recipe was a bust but this was near perfect. Thank you!
Just made this dish. Turned out delicious! I also made fried shrimp, and served this sauce on the side to dip them in.
Thanks for posting this James! One of my wife's favorite dishes in NOLA. I'll be making this for sure!
Thanks. I love it too, but don't make it enough. Even though I have access to fresh gulf shrimp any time that I want. Try it over some pasta as well.
Made this, it was awesome.
Trying this tonight. Looks insane!😋
That looks sooo good! Thanks for sharing. Gonna have to try that.
Thank you, let me know how they come out.
That looks awesome
Thank you, I appreciate it.
Lovely recipe 😋
Nice video!!! Nice pit set up man. That looks freaking cool.
Man that looks great. I will make that version soon. Next time I make the short drive I try to stop by and eat. Keep them coming.
I was looking for a shrimp recipe and came accidentally to your video. To get some NOLA taste and feeling at home and is always the best. And for sure next time when we are there we will visiting your restaurant. Greetings from Germany
Thank you buddy. Making some right now. Did 3 weeks in New Mexico. I miss my New Orleans food, lol
A long time ago I saw a documentary about food from New Orleans on german television. Since then I have been looking for a recipe for the shrimp to cook at home. Now I've finally found one.
Thank you, I really appreciate the support. Let me know how they came out for you.
Looks delicious
Great and easy! Thank You
You're welcome!
Made this last night and reminded me of home - N.O. Always so good. Please do some videos on redfish on the half shell, grilled redfish and bacon wrapped shrimp with jalepeno and would really like to get a recipe for seafood sauce that goes on top of fish etc. Really enjoy your videos. Keep them coming. Thanks
Great presentation! Love your recipe.
Thank you, I really appreciate that.
James good job love this dish
Thank you.
Your recipe is awesome,
Thank you. Have you tried it?
Looks great. Going to try it this weekend. It’s been a few years, but the last time I had barbecued shrimp in New Orleans was at Mr. B’s bistro…
Holy cow that looks great!
Thank you
That would be amazing paired with brushetta. Basically a brushetta shrimp slider.
Nicely done !!!
Thank you.
Thank you for the great video well done 👍 my friend from Mississippi use to make this for all of us years ago and it was a huge hit I remembered most of the ingredients but had lost his moms recipe so wasn’t sure on the specific amounts hard to find shrimp around here with the heads on so hopefully the ones without will be fine I’m looking forward to making it this weekend
It’s been one of my favorites for years. The heads add a little flavor, but you’ll be fine without them. Let me know how they come out.
We don't have any prawn shops in Virginia. Just pawn shops. I think I need to move to Louisiana. I tried the recipe and it was outstanding.
Nice!!!
Awesome
Glad I found your channel! I want to jump in my phone and get a bite of those shrimp! 🏆
Yes indeed!!!
Looks delicious! Over some Louisiana rice, yummy 😋
Perfect , its delicious
Cooked it twice now on the stove and it is deeeliiiciious! I'd say the trickiest part for stove-top is keeping the sauce from separating. I've had the butter and Worcestershire sauce separate on me twice now! But once I got by that it's sooo worth it!
I'm glad you enjoyed them. The key is to add the butter a slowly, and a little at a time. You also have to keep whisking it to help it from seperating.
Just keep stirring and lower your heat.
Looks fira! New Orleans dude approves
Damn that looks great! I gotta try that one.
Thanks James, you'll love them.
E
OMG!!! I made this tonight and it was freakin incredible! I was so excited to eat it, I forgot to add the green onions! Oh well… Things I will do different next time, peel the shrimp, after adding the shrimp, only cook them on one side for a minute, turn them turn everything off, put in oven while plating. Serve! This way you will get all that marvelous sauce on the shrimp and not your fingers! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. It was fabulous! ❤🦐❤
If you peel them cook your shells in the sauce there is a lot of flavor in the shells
I can't believe you didn't suck the juice out of the shrimp head!!
This looks GREAT, can't wait to try it.
Thank you. Let me know how yours come out.
I always do that it's the best bit!
Thanks for posting! Everyone does BBQ Shrimp slightly different and the variation is for me what makes it interesting. Cheers!
Thank you. I've seen a ton of different ways that people are doing them.
Yummy!
Great video! Making this tonight! Thanks for making it
Thank you, and you're welcome. It's definitely one of my favorites.
Heck, yeah, your food looks beautiful. I'm going to use Tapatio hot sauce. I sure hope I'm not wrong to use that.
I gotta do this for Fourth of July 2021
Wish it was on the menu
I like to devein mine .. you can do that and still leave the head an tails on. They are delicious.
That "shimp au poivre" looks so good!
This looks AMAZING! Just one correction in the ingredients listed in the description: should be 2 teaspoons of black pepper, not 2 tablespoons.
Sure love those New Orleans Shrimps dude 🍤 ❤. Wont add too much butter due to health reasons instead ill use olive oil. Hello from India 🇮🇳
Are you using Grill Grates on your grill? If so I was wondering how using a pan on them performed. Recipe looks delicious. Is this an appetizer or main course. I have seen other recipes were it is served over rice.
Looks good. I don't remember where I got it from but I like a sprig or 2 of rosemary in my BBQ shrimp. Have you hears of this?
Damn. That beer really kicked up the sauce. Could you have grilled the shrimp as you were making the sauce, then added it to the dish. Damn buddy, you definitely got some cooking chops. Awesome looking sauce. Restaurant quality for sure- Definitely will be making this as I love shrimp type recipes like this. Good stuff.
Thanks man. I've been following your channel for a while now, and love the videos. Great stuff.
As far as grilling the shrimp ahead of time, I'm not sure it would add much to the dish because it's such a quick cook. I'd prefer as much cook time in the sauce as possible.
Correction.....I've been following under my personal account. Just subbed under CCBBQ.
Just made this, came out great, but the sauce was fine but broke sometime after i flipped the shrimp in the last minute or so. Any tricks/advice to help prevent that? Lower the temp maybe? I was moving it around as much as I could, but bam, last second separated
Lower heat, add butter slowly
It must be a spicy and/or spicy hot sauce there. I can’t tolerate really spicy/hot things. Is there any other way to make this with lots of flavor?
Liking how well you teach this. And can I get the recipe if it isn’t so spicy/hot or if you have a recipe for me that has great flavor but not spicy/hot?
Thanks tons,
Retired Arts teacher~
L.
Have you tried Ginger maybe honey maybe barbecue sauce
I can potentially add clams and mussels to it, too.
👍
very nice
That's how it's done ✔
Yes sir! I appreciate the support.
Niceer

Hi,
How to avoid sticking shell to shrimp after grilling?
Thank you
You’re over cooking them.
Add a couple drops of apple cider vinegar.✨
Put it on the menu
Fire 🔥
basically JUST butter as a sauce
Put this on menu… please!!
Yesss D licious
close up on the dish would be nice
Ok sooooo I a question I live in New Orleans why is it called bbq shrimp but I don’t see any bbq being added
Great question. The answer that I got from Pascal's Manale, which invented the recipe, is that it's just what they decided to name it for no particular reason. During that time, bbq sauces weren't as popular as they are now, so the interpretation of what a possible "New Orleans" type bbq sauce could be was just an open idea. Thank you for the great question, and I learned a little something myself on it. I appreciate the support.
Oh ok so I wonder if I were to really add some bbq sauce like the honey chipotle how would it come out
@@IamTyAdalis that might not be a bad idea. That's the awesome thing about recipes, you can make them however you like. I'm all for experimenting. I would suggest maybe just adding a little bit of the sauce the first time. Add more the 2nd time if you think it would be better.
Yes definitely a little only to taste
no holy trinity ?
A
LOT of butter for 8 shrimp😨. Whew chile
That's a pretty standard amount of butter for barbecue shrimp. It makes plenty sauce to cook more shrimp in it if you want to. Thank you for watching, and providing feedback. Please feel free to ask any questions, anytime you want.
Do you not devein the shrimp???
Nah that’s extra flavour!
@@Trifln214 That's nasty lol 🤣

How come ur butter don't turn brown and stinky like mine? :(
Your heat is to high or low grade butter.
Omg, you just used a half pound of butter for eight shrimp. That dish should be called NOLA style HEART ATTACK.
Its French Bread . you need to dip in the sauce .with some brown sugar is the actual reason the Chef called it BBq Shrimp.
😂 what? That makes no sense
I cup black pepper
1/4 cup black pepper
5 tbsp black pepper
French bread 🥪 ' bon appetite' ! 😊
No rosemary?
Couldn't you actually grill the shrimp and then toss them in a bowl with the sauce, like wings?
That Sounds so lazy and stupid way to cook whenever I see people do that it just blows my mind they think they have any taste at all part of the flavor development seems to be when sauces and the thing you're cooking are cooked together you don't know that by now how old are you 16 ?please get up sense of what good cooking is it's don't be so lazy it takes a little bit more effort to make a good meal just put off the effort tossing oh brother sounds so backwards
@@Iambriangregory LOOL wtf dude you got some weird issues. I'm 50, a way better cook than you and I just happen to not have grilled many shrimp before. Get a hold of your emotions ffs. Lawl.
@@jeil5676 don't try to be a psychological manipulator fake Dr Phil!!!!!! like a teenager you're acting like one act your age using the word weird is a juvenile thing used to try to intimidate someone into peer pressure through your personal myopic image (take your time and go look up the word on a internet dictionary) and you better get a hold of your ego too like a DJ who thinks all the music they play is good you're not a good cook because YOU say so YOU would be a good cook when enough PEOPLE say you are , let praise not come from your mouth, so get a check on your ego because that's your big problem obviously and you ran into someone that puts your ego in check, who you THOUGHT you were bigger than and you found that you WEREN'T as big as you thought you were you're not the king cook at the picnic you got that? And it's when people don't learn because of the ego is when they go out of business and people stop eating their food so if you ever wonder why people stop raving about your food or talking about it because you refuse to learn from other people you got that young bloke teenager? and it's not your physical age it's the age of your brain development got it? Thank you, Brendan.
Someone calm me down about the veins in the shrimp, I have ocd and I can’t bring myself to eat poop, even .1 gram
☝
Why would you not take shitsack out of the Shrimps ? I mean looks good but
Thank you. I cook these with the shells still on, so I guess you could just remove it after you peel the shrimp when eating them. It's really just a personal preference. I've definitely seen people remove it after peeling the shrimp.
@@CentralCityBBQ oh allright yeah didn't know you could remove it after cooking them, was just wondering Will definetly be using your recipe tho :D
Ce Yi, you could clean them first and get the mud vein out. Then you could probably add an extra 1/4 lb of shrimp to the recipe. I made this tonight and I will be doing that next time. It was fabulous!! ❤️🦐❤️
Damn sure dont cook with them that long or throw them away and start over
i used gordon ramsay's recipe (and it was phenomenal ! ) but wanted to see another one and i fell sick when i saw all that butter from here, that doesn't look healthy at all !
i eat that amount in months !
Then don’t eat it. Stop complaining. This is how it’s done in new orleans.
You don’t eat NOLA food to be healthy! Just move on!
Take those stupid gloves off.
