    The round connector at the end of the red add-a-circuit fuse wire is actually a female bullet type connector. It is designed to accept a male connector not to have a wire crimped in it. The flat connector is a fully insulated .250" male spade connector. Vampire taps aren't my first choice but may be ok when used in interior locations. They corrode and fail when exposed to water or salt water like during winters here in the NE. Many people make the mistake of using them for trailer light connections.

    I appreciate the great content you make typically but cant get passed some of the wiring mistakes and terminology.
    The "crimp" that looks like a typical Bullet connector on the fuse tap, you do not crimp your wire directly into it, that's a very insecure connection which could lead to issues.
    Your amp rating is based off the front of the usb charger which may output 6 amps at 5v but is draws less than half that at 12-14 volts.
    The fuse tap would, if installed backwards have current flowing through the bottom fuse first , they share power in pin then have separate fuses and outlets so they can both be protected at different amp ratings, but if backwards the bottom fuse would blow and shut off both circuits, especially if the fuse wasn't sized to handle both.
    You called a Male spade connector a vampire tap, the vampire tap was the piece that clipped onto the wire, terribly convenient but often times is used on wrong size wire leading to bad connection or a broken wire.
    You have crimpers, you should have an assortment of spade/bullet crimps and have crimped on a male end to the multiple wires and inserted it into the fuse tap. would have been much cleaner, simpler, and more durable.
    I'm not bashing, I simply think you should educate yourself a little more, you would improve greatly buy having some of the proper parts and electrical knowledge.

      Thanks for the tips. Yeah wiring is definitely not my forte by any means and I'm definitely interested in learning more. :) Thanks for your suggestions and for correcting my terminology!

    Great video for those that can't do a mirror tap. Obviously installing the power directly to a powered mirror is best (easier?) , if you have that option available. In this case, doesn't look like the mirror has power. I also prefer a mirror mounted radar detector, as it allows you to still use the sun visors. #bledmount!

    Tried Hardwiring to my Audi A6 worked great except the hardwire apparently interferes with the wireless wheel positioning system on the Audi. When I asked the dealer they basically said the fact that their was an unexpected electric field in the fuse box it threw the system off. Major waning lights when off in the car. Anyone else ever had this?

Also, does it affect the operation of the car electronic components? Thank you. Great content. Thank you for your contribution.

    A lot of bad info (remember, most cars come with fuse pullers . Nbd) but bigger is that power inserted backwards, won't skip the fuse but will go through both fuses potentially blowing the factory one at a bad time later. A viewer testing by leaving fuses out may think it's inserted correctly.
    But at least it shows pulling panels off which your newer one didn't

  • @samwisegamgee7672
    @samwisegamgee7672 3 роки тому

    I am not an electrician, however I was a bit confused about the section on fuse taps. You said that "if you plug it in 180 degrees backwards you are not going to be getting any fuse protection" and "power is only going to flow through one of the sides here so you are not going to get any protection against fires or anything". I believe many people including myself would stay miles away from the fuse box, if fires were easily caused by flipping fuse tap 180 degrees. However, as far as I can see, flipping a fuse should not cause any issue whatsoever. By looking at wiring inside the tap, one can conclude that using a fuse tap in wrong direction would not do anything to the existing circuit, since fuse is symmetrical; and the only outcome would be - no power in the new circuit. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  3 роки тому +1

      Not the fuse itself, but the add-a-circuit that plugs into the fuse box. Sorry if I was unclear.

    • @samwisegamgee7672
      @samwisegamgee7672 3 роки тому

      Edit: In case both fuses present, if add-a-circuit is installed incorrectly, the power will be delivered through original fuse, which may eventually blow it (no big deal, just a blown fuse, 2 circuits out and an indicator that tap is wrong). In case only new circuit fuse is present, there just won't be any power in the new circuit, which should not do any harm at all.

      Yeah no problem I appreciate your videos I was looking for a new radar detector I still have the Valentine one GEN one other than it’s false alerts it’s still quite impressive. I went to find your newest video on the red line 360 and you mentioned a few things about it the rear radar not being as great and the arrows not switching properly the beeping not ramping up properly I don’t know if that’s because your video is a little older but all that seems to be working properly. But I did wanna ask I noticed the K band When it comes to speed signs in the road they are k band it doesn’t even detect them until I am at them them where my v1g1 detects them halfway down the street I thought that was strange. KA band works great. Was wondering if you’ve noticed thatwith KBand

    If I have an existing fuse of 10amp and I add another fuse for the top row so the 10 on the bottom and new one on top does it have to be bigger the same as the 10amp on the bottom

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  2 роки тому

      In general the best practice is to keep the existing fuse for the existing equipment in the car and then for the new gear, you install a fuse that's rated for just a bit higher than the max load of all the equipment combined. Think of the two fuses are two independent fuses, even though they both plug into the same add-a-circuit cable.
