Massive shout to Tony for spotting that the engine may have been running on one cylinder during this test. I have just confirmed that it was. The HT lead on one side was not fully seated thus not firing on both. Just given it another run and she’s running much better now. This is why I love UA-cam!

I have a BMW 1986 R80RT, a 2001 Harley Electraglide and a 1978 VW air cooled camper bus. I love them all because they have no modern tech and I do all of the maintenance on them. Unlike my wife’s new VW Tiguan which I have to take to the dealer so they can plug it into their computer and tell me how much it will cost. Well done! Keep the shiny side up.😎👍

Thank you. Yes there is a lot to be said for keeping it simple. These vehicles came from a time when you could fix things rather than just replacing them.

Mr WM, the open mouthed look on your face @4:37 when it started was priceless!!!
Top spot Tony.....L/H cylinder is smoking @5:14, but the R/H isn't.
Watch those loose wires near the hot headers Mr WM, don't want those shiny pipes to get blemished by melted-on plastic/rubber insulation!
A cracking resto, a justified credit to your very thorough efforts Mr WM. I have full faith you'll find the cause of that 'hanging idle' issue.

Thank you sir! It's been a great journey. Looking forward to the first ride now. Hopefully, it's just a bit of tuning to eliminate the idle issue.

Very satisfying. I've had to go through a similar experience, and I had to literally force myself to start the bike. The anxiety of it perhaps not starting, or it just shitting the bed completely......I was contemplating not doing it at all and keeping the bike as a shiny ornament, but in the end I did, and it was truly well worth doing.

I've been absolutely dreading it. I had convinced myself that the worst would happen. It got to the point where I had nothing left to do than hit the button. Thankfully, she seems ok. There is plenty of tuning and adjusting to do, but I will enjoy the rest of the process now.

Super and chuffed for you. I've watched your vids with much enjoyment as I've inherited my late Dads R100RT monolever which needs a full restoration. I will watch until you finish then re watch for pointers too. Again well done!

Hi wild life motto, great to see that the bike started so well first time even though you need to look at the tick over and running , hopefully that will go well for you and the bike will soon be ready to take for its first run

Interesting that you say that. It might have been. I do have sparks on both sides, both plugs were slightly scorched when I took them out, and both headers were very hot (although one was hotter than the other). Humm, you've got me worried now.

@@WildlifeMoto just a thought was there fuel to the carb , didn’t notice fuel go in to the Near side carb, only the off side , it may be just the audio but it definitely sounded on 1 pot , don’t panic it will be something silly 😀 just watched again and it could be the oil heating the other cylinder up , I would take the plugs out and check for fuel ,and if there’s spark it should fire 🔥

@@tonymartin3780ran back to the garage. Went to pull the plug and noticed that the HT lead was not fully seated. Ran it again and it’s 100% running on both sides now. I think you were right mate.

Do you have such plastic carburetor "suction" tester?
