  • The one thing we know about life is that none of us are gettin' out of this alive. We're all in it together. Instead of concentrating on our differences and our disagreements, we should spend more time focusing on our shared joys and experiences. Cigars have been one of the best ways I have found to bring people from all different strata of life together with a common bond.

In all honesty I think the world is full of people like dwayne and there's many such people on UA-cam. They are interested in a wide variety of subject's far removed from cigars and the likes but the theme is always the same. Find your bliss and share it with others. The variety here is a prime example from cooking to wrangling to cigars. Just a genuine appreciation for life and all its nuances. Real soul food!

I remember my first cigar. My Sgt came up to me while deployed. I was missing home. Troubled by the combat I'd encountered. The brothers I'd lost. He came up to where I was sitting and tossed me a cigar. (A Romeo and Julieta) and his punch and matches. He was KIA three days later. EVERYTIME I light up a cigar, I think of that cigar. When people ask why I love cigars as much as I do, I say "Gone but never forgotten" RLTW!!

73 yrs old and I smoked cigarettes early in life but haven’t touched one in 25 yrs. Had an occasional grocery store cigar after that but again haven’t had one of those in years. Today, thanks to you, I went to the Cigar Lodge in McKinney, Texas. Never been to a place like this but I walked in and was immediately greeted by 7 of the regulars. I told them I was new to this lifestyle but I wanted to join the “Brotherhood of the Leaf”. About half of them knew what I was talking about but soon they all knew what this brotherhood is about. Mike running the store showed me everything he had. He made some suggestions and then I pulled out a piece of paper with two cigars you had talked about on your channel. I settled on a Charter Oak Connecticut Shade. Bought a cutter and torch and I’m never turning back. Sat down and got to know everyone there. Thank you for introducing me to the “Brotherhood of the Leaf. If you and Momma ever come this way ya’ll have a place to stay.

This is so true. We had a gunsmith in out community. He was a cover story in gunsmith international or some magazine with a similar name. He was always such a serious looking man. He always seemed isolated and a hermit, one of those guys who hated life and people. I was in the need for a gift for my son, and a friend suggested this guy. He lived on his farm about 15 miles from town. I drove out and knocked on his door. He comes to the door and seemed a little irritated. Told him what I needed and he told me he would come over to the shop in a minute. I has woke him from his nap. He come over and sold me the hand gun I wanted, then offered me a cigar. We sat in his lounge at the shop, had a smoke, and some of the best conversation I have ever had. He went in his gun vualt and brought me out a cigar to take with me, and I left with more respect for the man than I thought was possible. I still have remorse wishing I would of gotten to know him sooner. It wasn't but a year or so after he passed away. But I will never forget that first smoke.

As a fellow member of the Brotherhood Of The Leaf, I would have to say this is the best description of this unspoken bond. “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”
    ‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭4:9-10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The cigar bar/lounge, and/or sharing a smoke together really is the last bastion of a true neutral social congregation, in America.
A lounge just opened right down the street from my house and its changed my life.
Its helped me start turning things around and being a better man.
If you're in your mid 20s or older and you feel lost, find a cigar lounge and just go.
There's not one negative thing about it.

@@spencerh2860society is cancer, coke zero is cancer, going for a jog in a city is cancer, having a cell phone is cancer, life is short and you could die at any moment. Statistics show that a cigar a day is a negligible risk, still a risk but not a severe one, while alcohol is classified as a toxin and kills more people than cigars. I've just gotten into cigars, maybe smoked about 10 so far, and the relaxation I've had and the deep conversation I've had while smoking cigars is worth a negligible cancer risk. I've seen fights everywhere except for a cigar lounge, go check one out for yourself, even just to look. It's nothing but adults sitting back, getting off their cell phones and appreciating that small pocket in time.

I used to smoke cigarettes for years and discovered cigars only about 5-6 years back. I have been to different parts of europe and asia but never been to the US. I've always wanted to. I grew up watching cowboy movies with my dad and maybe that is one of the reasons why I was attracted to hear what you have to say about the cigar. This is one of the things that my wife and I love the most about the cigar community. Hi class, low class, no class. White collar, blue collar, no collar. Black, white, Spanish. American, Canadian, Mexican. Catholic, Baptist, Jewish. Doctor, commercial pilot, auto mechanic… When you sit down at the lounge there is nothing but people who love cigars. They love to smoke them, they love to talk about them, they love to share them and as long as you feel the same then there are never any questions, just acceptance and camaraderie!
Society could learn a lot from the cigar lounge, hell many churches could learn a lot from the cigar lounge as unfortunate as that may be.

I've listened to most of your videos and just ran across this one. It reminded me of a time in my life when I ended up in northern Idaho, trying to shake off a bad marital breakup. After some time up there I was invited to an 'invitation only' gathering of men that met on Wednesday evenings. It was called 'The Roost' and was held on the upper floor of an old barn, an old hay loft that had been converted into a man cave, sporting a circle of couches, chairs, and a wood stove for heat when needed. I nervously walked up the narrow stairs to the loft and was met by around a dozen guys, all of whom were Jesus followers, sweet-smelling cigars, and good whiskey. Even though I was a pipe smoker, I was welcome. The Roost was to become the epitome of a real men's group where deep issues of life were discussed, cigars and pipes (at least one pipe) were smoked, and good whiskey was sipped. It was wonderful and I often wish there was one on the island where I live. By the way, the reason the group was invitation only and somewhat secretive was that a number of the attendees were on a church staff. People in their churches just wouldn't understand...

This dude hit it right on the money. Having this one commonality allows us to know a little bit about the guy across the table from you. I was in Greece on a trip a few tears back and bought a partagas at a little cigar shop in a small town. I was getting ready to light up and saw a group of guys sitting on the waterfront. When they saw my cigar they beckoned me over. It was just a random group of traveller's. Some on cruises, some locals, some from adjacent countries. We sat together in fellowship. Most spoke English. After an hour of cigars and adult beverages we were like any other group of cigar guys. Talked a little bit about cigars, sports, wives. The usual stuff.Like the guys this cowboy described.
My home cigar club the Cigar Ambassadors has judges and it has janitors. It has senators, and it has street sweepers. But we all have one common thing together. And the fellowship we share has a value beyond measure. It's hard to describe but I'll wager every cigar guy or gal that reads this or watches the video above will be shaking their head in understanding before they finish this. Long Ashes my friends. Enjoy every second of it, the best hour of the day. When we share some time together and shake off the days problems. No matter any where you are. We all get it!
    Kevin

Love this. I'm not a smoker, but I love this. Even if I don't smoke, there is a remarkable thing about pipe and cigar smokers. They are thinkers and tend to be brothers. George Bruno introduced me to the concept. I just found this channel and I already love it. Thanks my friend. You're a real gentleman, and follow the gentleman's code.

I enjoy your vids, thanks.

One night, as an MC prospect, I was working behind the bar and it got quiet. I was tired and bored, so I spontaneously smoked a gas-station cigar that I found in a drawer. I got it. Romeo i Julietta #3 is now my go-to. Best cigar I ever had was a bandless handmade bought off a guy who was rolling them on a street-side in Munich. Perfumed and mild!!

Grew up running to the shop to buy our old neighbour his cigars when he'd been on a whiskey binge and ran out of smokes. I always remember the smell of his cigars hitting me smack in the face as soon as he opened the door. I loved that smell. I'm a non smoker but I did get to smoke a few cigars at parties in the 90s but that was it. Just today I got that whiff again from a passerby in town & boy the memories came flooding back to the point I went on ebay to source a few decent cigars. Google knew what I wanted & now my youtube is full of cigar recommendations 🤣 but I'm binge watching your vids as you tell it best 👌.

Great story and talk. I'm a farmer and smoke cigars too. People always think they know what's best for everyone else and don't even take care of their own self or their own business. I pay no mind to them. I love my Cigars, they relax me after a hard days work. My wife actually smokes them with me. She never thought she'd enjoy such a thing, but I told her to just do what she wants and she did. Now we enjoy them together on our deck while watching the sun set over Magazine Mountain. Men need to be men, and women need to be women, but I don't reckon a cigar cares who smokes it. I've got a few men around me that do what they want and sit down for a smoke with me. But then there are others who have to ask their wives first.....most of them miss out and never get to experience the brotherhood of the leaf!

He's not wrong. I started smoking cigars as a result of 3 inexpensive cigars I received as a gift. I mostly smoked on the golf course, and almost everytime, another golfer would strike up a conversation, give me a cigar that I just had to try, maybe 2 or 3 for later, all the simple pleasure of sharing the brotherhood of the leaf. I finally had to give them up due to lung issues....but some days I really would love to just to take a nit of time, just to visit.

Greetings from Kharkiv, Ukraine 🇺🇦 Well, this story is beautiful. The stories actually. I had similar experience with wine 🍷 - sometimes, you can find people that share the same passion and right away you have something common to discuss. Although it’s something different and important around cigars. The whole experience is calming. I do agree that if it’s anything that ties us together, it should be cherished. Cigars are so good when viewed from this angle. Thank you mr. 🤠

Thank you for sharing this video. I am a grad student and nearly every interaction I have with my contemporaries is fraught with political disagreements; it often seems that there is no outlet which can bring people together. While I've never smoked cigars, I can see a similar bonding when it comes to firearms. I've taken family and friends, on both sides of the political spectrum, out shooting and it has turned into an activity where we can stay out for the day, camp, and have fun shooting. This causes us to slow down and share a common bond with each other, making us realize that we aren't so different after all and facilitating unlikely friendships. I really appreciate hearing your experiences and look forward to watching your other videos.

I enjoy all your videos, they are refreshing. Wish I could still smoke cigars, medically I cannot. I am glad you have a fellowship of people that breaks the boundaries, it's a much needed thing these days. It saddens me that what you say about churches is too often true and I'm sure people will get all triggered over it. I will say though there are fellowships of Christians across churches, across the map, across the internet, that identify by common values, behavior, faith and form a brotherhood as well. I would like to ask those who would be triggered about telling some truths about some churches, don't be triggered, don't be blinded to truth, don't attack people who point out what's plain to see. Find your fellowship, your brotherhood that cuts boundaries. Speak truth, but don't try to force people who won't see it to change. They will not until they choose to look. Thank you Duane for your integrity, honesty and ability to speak plainly.

Romeo Julieta is a good cigar. I also like CAO brand. Padilla makes some nice ones too. Thanks for the videos. I am glad I found you. I too wear a cowboy hat and boots. They are just plain comfy and kinda my trademark. I been wearing them for years now. I also play guitar and have made a little money playing n the stage. Now, I play simply to enjoy it often with fellow players. OLD county music mostly. I also know a couple bluegrass players who join us at times. I am in upstate NY but, if I had my druthers, I would be in Texas. Being almost 67 now, that prolly won't ever happen. Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

Good afternoon sir! Brother of the leaf (and briar). I enjoyed this video. I was raised in South Central Tennessee and now live for past 43 years in West Tennessee. I began career in public safety same as you at age 26 and back in those days worked alone even before attending the academy. Things have surely changed. I have friends who smoke cigars and pipes and it truly is a brotherhood of the leaf. I'm very familiar with your area in Tennessee. Great video and keep 'em coming.
