When I see people recommending the broomstick method of turning stirrups I always wish I knew why someone would do that, instead of turning them permanently by flipping over the Blevins. It's so easy, and you aren't fighting the natural "desire" of the leather. With this method, it's always going to be wanting to go back and you'll feel that when/after you ride.

I am getting a new Circle Y this week! Yay me! But I'm sure it's not going to be quite right. I have done this exact technique to include hot water soak it, oil it, then twist and use a stick to hold in place. I have also dumped some oil into the hot water to make an oil soak. Works each time.

That’s so ironic, I’m getting 4 new circle y saddles in today :)

do you just spray the hose on it and keep it on there?

hello, so I have a rough out seat and fenders, am I understanding that I am supposed to soak the fenders only? Then after they're soaked, I use oil (I have 100% pure neatsfoot oil) and wipe down the fenders and then put the broom stick after I've twisted both stirrups? Is that correct?

If you're trying to only turn the fenders out more, you can stick the broom in the stirrups and then soak the back of the fenders with water from a spray bottle and then let it sit overnight. The longer it sits, the better it will stay.

@@BestEverPads hello, thanks for the reply. I have a new saddle, a Scott Thomas and the seat is rough out along with the fenders. There is definitely a squeaky sound with I ride, so I'm going to go ahead and soak my fenders or spray distilled water on my fenders and do the broom stick deal for 48 hours then oil the saddle and the fenders with neatsfoot oil. I'll let you know how it turns out. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks again.

She oils the saddle while it is wet?

Yes do your conditioning when the saddle is damp. Waiting for your saddle to dry will weaken the leather and lead to cracks.

The absolute only channel I go to for advice on saddle cleaning and maintenance is Don Gonzalez. He has three videos on the complete real time rehabbing of a western saddle and he wouldn't oil or condition a damp saddle. That's good enough for me.
