I am in Traverse City. Since you mentioned Northern MI. I've have the perfect amt of ground cover snow, not enough for winter land vibe in all the trees as we did a month ago with the wet heavy type snow when we were dumped on. I am near West Bay, surrounded by trees...I will be shoveling about 2-3 myself. Have a great day!

I moved to NW Arizona from Oregon in the spring of 2021 and I miss the cedars and big old growth firs we had on our property but I was pleasantly surprised to find so many varieties of trees on our new property, including evergreens, eucalyptus, palo verde, cypress, olives, and flowering desert willows. The previous owner planted 100s of trees and shrubs and I'm so grateful for his vision. I'll always be a PNW girl though. 🌲🌲🌲

I grew up in that home and knew every single plant that was on our property. It took decades for me to grow the perfect flower beds and gardens that displayed beauty all 4 seasons. I am taking detailed notes and making a list of all the winter plants we need, and saving every penny.

I appreciate and I am so grateful for what the Lord has blessed me with so I am not complaining.. 🌟
I am single, 60 yrs young and I have come a long way in my very very small space I have to garden in. My home sits on the corner so I have lawn all around my home where I can’t plant in because that is the “city” lawn as they say past the sidewalk so I keep that beautifully mowed so when I look out my windows I see houses all the neighbors and some .. who do not care if they even mow. When I purchased my home 20 yrs ago it was not like that.. ANYWAYS, I would so love to look out windows and see evergreens and birch trees, green lawns or a lane lined with trees.. as I age I am finding that brings me comfort and joy to see nature..
I get compliments all the time in the summer how beautiful all my flowers are and how I decorate my porches..
I am thinking of selling, to get a one floor home somewhere, where I can get a little more nature when I look out my windows.. any suggestions from anyone.. maybe a built barn (metal) type opened concept, the economy is going down fast.. I’m stuck on what is smart to do.. Laura I love your place, all these trees and shrubs you’ve shown are so beautiful! Merry Christmas, enjoy your beautiful family and take some time to relax and not worry about videos, you all deserve a rest!! 🎄❄️🎄🤍

Hey guys this is a fantastic video! We planted Witch Hazel for winter interest and to feed the Anna's hummingbirds that stay all year long here in the PNW. Planted a Prairifire Crabapple (with persistent fruit) this year and the heavy wet snow bent it completely over. I knocked off the snow and luckily it bounced back, phew! This Winter Interest program is the best.
    Educational and Beautiful.

Very informative video. We lost the majority of our old white spruce trees during the past few hurricanes that blew through Atlantic Canada. I am now researching evergreens that can withstand our harsh coastal winds, and this video has given me lots of ideas. Thanks, Laura!

This was so nice and educational for me. I have a mostly shady front yard and mostly sunny backyard. I live in a big city with houses very close together and a 25' wide lot, so not much space, but I think I can use many of these offerings in it! I paid a landscaper alot of money to do our front yard, but unfortunately she planted many items that need alot of sun, so here I am having to move it all to the back and replant the front! So happy you did this video as I will be able to use many of your suggestions, especially the Artic Fire Dogwood plants. They will be beautiful in front close to the house. So happy they like shade! One request, when you ask people to send in their photos, could you show some smaller type homes too? I know it wouldn't be as expansive or showy, but many of us have a smaller type home and could use them as inspiration. Thanks again!

He was camped out on the couch for the week with a blanket and a cup of hot Catnip tea and thought Garden Answer's birds were the best, especially the great audio!

I was a bit down today due to a fire in my house last week. What a mess but everyone is safe. But tuning in to your channel always lifts the spirits and this was no exception, I have just a small Facebook page on gardening, mostly friends and acquired new friends. I am always preaching to them about following your UA-cam blogs. I had to post the link for todays issue. What a wonderful tutorial for planting for winter interest. Every issue is a keeper, this one you hit right out of the park! Thank you so much and Happy Holidays to all.

We had a crabapple tree when I grew up in the Gresham/Sandy area. No clue what type but the crabapple were quite edible (VERY tart but yummy). Mom always canned pickled crabapple that were served at holiday or fancy meals.
We also had a very tall, slender cedar tree which I adored climbing until I got too mature to fit in between the branches near the top. It was my favorite place to go to read books in solitude.

Even when you are not actually "out" in your garden you always provide a lovely video for us to watch and the Hartley as your background is terrific! Hugs from N.C..❤️

honestly i really do need to do more of that "window framing" of views to see what is needed, glad that you mentioned that. evergreens, density of stems, branches, texture, are invaluable to gardens especially in colder climates. wish i could plant a blue spruce in the far eastern us without it getting like multiple disease issues though lol, and yeah even i've had trouble with hollies, though i do wonder if ph of 4.5-5.5 in a zone 6a is pushing some of their natural limits or something. idk. definetly gonna be thinking about that list in future though. convenient thing about living in the red twig dogwood's native range is that i have several near me for free!

THANK YOU! After 25 years living in the southwest, I loved to northern Minnesota. We live on 1 acre of land. Its barren looking out here except some pine trees and SNOW. I do not know how to garden out here.

      @krishohman750 Рік тому

I live in northern Minnesota too. Our choices are limited here due to cold and (usually) heavy snow. You generally can’t see many plants smaller than trees, so I don’t worry much about winter interest. Find a Master Gardener in your area to help you learn to garden in this environment. It can be challenging but rewarding.

This is what I'm working on in my garden. There weren't any trees on our property when we moved here 3 years ago... I love the blue & dark green evergreens. I wish they weren't so expensive but totally understand why they are... I'm also working on shrubs that I can also use for bouquets for my cutflower farm.
I love when you mention when things need a ton of water because we get an average of 70 in of rain per year & have clay soil so it holds onto every bit of it!
