    Finally, a video tutorial on Keyforge that does not assume the player knows how to play other CCG style games. THANK YOU!

    I love the low barrier to entry in this game, don't get me wrond, I love magic and deckbuilding is my favorite part, but I love how $10 dollars plus some counters per person is what's expected from a player to play on the same level as ANYONE else!

    This was a very, very good rules explanation. Rodney took that rulebook and reduced it down to the absolute simplest of terms, hardly a single word wasted. He's a model for all us Rules Lawyers out there ;)

    Very excited for this one. It is odd to me that for such a large game mat, they did not incorporate a chain tracker into it. Seems like a missed opportunity.

    FYI, the string of letters and numbers below the QR code is equivalent to the QR code so if you're going to obscure the QR, you should obscure those letters/numbers as well.

    I am definitely giving this one a buy, for the starter set and the playmat you used. I love the whole idea behind the game, taking a CCG back to its roots where it was about exploring, and about seeing who was the best with what they had. No net decking, no buying the winning cards, just people playing and having fun.

    For us the biggest issue is the tracking of Armor. They could have included armor tracking tokens as well.

    • @lasko24
      @lasko24 4 роки тому +3

      They probably figured players could use damage tokens for that.Which is what I did if the creature took damage to its armour I would place a damage token right above the armour so I knew how much it had left.

      Well if you just get 1 or 2 decks to test it out there really won't be that much of a risk. That's what I like about this game. The entry level is low and even if you stick with it you don't need to spend 200-1000$ a deck to be competitive

    They could have included some kind of token that would demonstrate that the armor has been reduced for the rest of the round. Unless you don't fight so often which is unlikely for a game of that genre.

    • @cantrip7
      @cantrip7 6 років тому +1

      Fights are rarer than you might expect; since you normally can only use creatures of the declared house, you need at least a 2 turns to wind up to a fight without card effects, and only of 1 house.

    Wow, just when I got this, a Keyforge How To Play is here, clarifying some things for me even more clearly, thanks :D
    I do have a question though... what is the condition for a creature to be considered to "be in a flank"? Some cards specifically target creatures that are/aren't on a flank.
    Does there have to be a creature(or creatures) in the middle, for the ones on the far left and far right to be considered to be in a flank, or can it also happen if you for example have only 2 creatures (0 creatures in between).

    • @NileSings

I played 2 to 3 games. If it wasn't because someone taught me the rules I wouldn't play the board game or card game. I could only imagine being fun judging the box art work. Being so used to games like Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, and Magic, it's odd seeing a game that is effectively nothing but draft playing if you've never played with the cards/deck/game before. However, on the flipside, I love the uniqueness of the game. It basically means no ditto games or "meta" decks. Everyone has the chance to be good or bad. It all depends on how you use the cards. While some cards STILL might be better, all decks have potential. I respect this.

    Not meaning to nitpick, but in your 'fight' example (9:42), wouldn't both creatures actually NOT get any damage at all? Since the attacker has 'Skirmish', and the attacked creature has 'Elusive'? I generally avoid answering questions on specific card effects (requires a level of involvement in the game which I just can't assume as someone not with the company). To reinforce what Rodney is saying specifically involving this example, the card called Iron Obelisk reads "Your opponent’s keys cost +1[aember] for each friendly damaged Brobnar creature." Given the specification for opponents keys on Iron Obelisk, unless there was a large mistake in one or both of the text on these cards, Titan Mechanic should affect both players.

      While you will often want to Reap, sometimes you'll also want to attack an opponents creatures because they may have powerful abilities that are giving your opponent an advantage while they are in play. You may also have certain Fight Effects that you want to trigger on your cards. Or, you may simply want to reduce the number of creatures your opponent has to reap with.

    So, when you choose your active house (dis), but say you have another card from a different house (shadows) on the field, say an artifact "Speed Sigil" that says: "the first creature played each turn enters play ready." does the speed sigil's affect still work when I play a creature even though it is from a different (non-active) house? If so, would this work for upgrades and creatures, too? For example: If you had the Hayyel the Marchant card which says: "Each time you play an artifact, gain an aember" in play, but at the start of your turn chose a different house, would Hayyel's ability still work? Thanks!

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  6 років тому

      Speed Sigil works no matter which house is active because it doesn't have a keyword in front of it's action. This is a constant ability. Also, don't forget that it says the first creature of "each turn" gets the benefit (meaning this triggers during your opponents turn as well).
      The same applies to Hayyel the Merchant, because it's a constant ability.
      Hope that helps!

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  5 років тому +1

      Hey Michelle, thanks for the kind words! As much as I try to answer every question on all my videos, I avoid once about specific cards and interactions, as that's more than I can manage as one person across all these games. That said, you can often get help by posting on the BoardGameGeek forums. I would recommend detailing the exact wording of the effect when posting your question, as it will help people answer, who don't have those specific cards in front of them at the time. All the best!

    • @IvanSensei88
      @IvanSensei88 5 років тому +1

      Hello Michelle. I'm three months late, but better now than never I guess. When you're looking for answers regarding specific game situations, it's always helpful to include the text effects of those cards, so that even the people who are familiar with the rules, but not fully familiar with all the card effecta can give you an answer. Well regardless, let's have a look at those two cards:
      "Fogbank"
      Play: Your opponent cannot use creatures to fight on their next turn.
      "Follow the Leader"
      Play: For the remainder of the turn, each friendly creature may fight.
      In the CCG world, restrictions usually overrule the possibilities, and this game isn't an exception. "May" just allows you to perform an attack with each creature if you want to (Even if it's not from the Active House you've chosen), however - the previous effect that restricts attacks is in use, and it basically cancels out any possibilities of launching an attack that turn.
      So, no.. the Brobnar player unfortunately would not be able to attack at all, even if he used Follow The Leader card.
      If you need more clarification, here's en exempt from the rulebook:
      CANNOT VS MUST/MAY, CANNOT VS PERMISSIVE
      If two card effects are simultaneously instructing a player that they “cannot” do something and that they “must” or “may” do the same thing, the “cannot” effect takes precedence.
      _Example: Anna controls a Pitlord (COTA 093) which reads “While Pitlord is in play you must choose Dis as your active house.” On their next turn Anna’s opponent plays Restringuntus (COTA 094) which reads “Play: Choose a house. Your opponent cannot choose that house as their active house until Restringuntus leaves play.” and chooses Dis for its ability. On Anna’s next turn, she both must and cannot choose Dis, but because cannot takes precedence over must, she only cannot choose Dis and must choose one of her other houses instead._
      Hope it helps :D
