Anybody else watching this after finding out it was the inspiration for Decked Out?
100% ! Tango ftw
What’s that?
That's why I'm here
Ye
Yessir got the game aswell
Your videos are seriously fantastic, exceptional production quality, super clear, no bias, just very very good informative instruction videos! They're such a joy to watch because they make something that could otherwise feel very complicated feel so straightforward. Keep up the great work!
Richard, that is a very kind comment for you to leave - so glad you're enjoying the videos.
This has got to be the most wholesome content on the internet! It's just, nice! In fact, I've recently started watching a fair amount of gaming content and the board game community is just very wholesome in general, a nice change from what the internet is usually known for!
Glad you've been enjoying your time in this community!
Clank is currently my favorite deck-building game. I really like the push-your-luck angle.
It's been getting lots of good buzz.
I've been watching you back when it was just you and a steady cam, and I LOVE your editing now. Super smooth and easy to comprehend everything. whenever I play a new game now, I go first to watch your videos, then read the rules, and if ever an issue, your vids clear it up in no time flat. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad to hear you've found the improvements to be beneficial to the content!
It's been ten years since I first found this channel when looking up how to play Summoner Wars as someone new to the board game hobby in college. It's still my go to place to learn how to play a new game - often over even the official rulebook! Your smile and your calm, positive demeanor was relaxing then and it's still relxing now. Thanks for all you've done all these years on Watch It Played!
So very kind of you to say Tylor - that means a lot. Thanks for being with us all this time!
My least expected, but well-loved, game from the past year. Great video, as always, Rodney!
Thanks Adam!
I love watching your tutorials as they make learning new games so much easier. Thanks.
Thanks really nice to hear Randy - glad you lie them.
Decked Out brought me here 😅
Very kind of them to give a mention!
Your videos are amazing! Anytime I see you’ve made a How-To video I know that games is going to run smoothly because of your explanations! Thanks so much for creating this channel!!! Look forward to your next video!
SO very nice of you to say Rana - thank you!
Love that there is an app for solo mode! It shot up my list after that.
Your how to play videos are the absolute best! What a stellar and thorough job!
Very kind of you to say - thank you Cody!
Never seen this game played. It's on my to-buy list for a little while now. Love deck-building games :D
Thanks for checking it out Steve!
played this for the first time today it’s brilliant! Thanks so much for all of your videos
So glad you enjoyed the game :)
Thank you so much for your videos, the best way quickly learn all the rules! Thanks again.
You're very welcome - glad you found it helpful Arnaud!
Thanks for the teach Rodney! Playing tonight, and you taught me while I work. :D
Hey hey! Glad to assist Jamie. Hope you have a great time (tell me all about it at Origins!)
This may be the best tutorial video I've ever seen. Clear, well-structured, and leaves nothing out. Well done!
Very kind of you to say - thanks Bryan!
Rodney is THE best board game instructor on UA-cam, no contest.
Great video! You clarified a number of points I wasn’t sure about during my second play such as being able to carry 3 artifacts if I bought 2 backpacks.
I'm so glad this was helpful!
This was a great refresher, always love your videos. Good stuff man!
Have a great time getting back into it!
Well this is another time that I get to save myself an hour or two going through rules and then trying to look them up during first game thanks to watching your video. Thank you very much for that. It is hard to find that good of a quality of content on the internet!
Thanks so much - glad it was helpful. Have fun playing!
Wow. I loved your simple, straightforward explanation. Thank you for this.
You're very welcome Robert!
Thanks for making the how to play - just got this for my birthday and I can't wait to try it. I didn't realize you could play 1-player via the app- that's amazing! :D - Emma
Happy Birthday and have a great time playing :)
I've been waiting for this! Thanks Rodney!
You bet!
A few minutes in and I had to stop the video the comment how amazing your explanations are. Fantastic job.
That's very kind of you to take the time to say - thanks Randall.
Perfect timing, I just picked this up 2 days ago!
Hope it helps - have a great time playing :)
A wonderfully thorough and clear presentation of the rules. Thanks.
You're welcome Jason!
Wow, your explanations are super crystal clear! Thanks!
Thanks Dominique!
This is so helpful thank you! I'm playing this tomorrow with friends so it's nice to learn beforehand
Fantastic - have a great time playing Seth!
Haha, it really cames in handy this video.
I bought the game 2 weeks ago and i will receive it today. Yep on a saturday ;)
Great timing :)
Thanks for the video
Nice timing :)
Why, what perfect timing...just about to crack the shrink wrap on this one :)
Enjoy!
Another great tutorial, thank you Rodney!
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video, as always. Thanks Rodney.
Thank you Joel!
Rodney, you're a national treasure. Thanks again.
Glad it was helpful Keith!
English is not my native language. There are good 'how to play' videos in Dutch. But yours are always so complete. I try to watch one in Dutch first (if there is one) so that I understand everything. And then I watch yours to be certain that I heard all the rules ;-) So thank you very much!
Very kind of you to say - really nice to know they are helpful!
glad to see a video on this, i love this game.
One I've been wanting to feature since I first played. Glad you're enjoying it!
Damn, only at 8 minutes of this video and i am looking to my favorite store to get this game, thanks for that!
If you pick it up I hope you have a great time playing :) Thanks for checking out the video Hervey!
Great instructional video!!!!
Thanks Gideon!
Thanks for this. The supplied rulebook I found quite lacking,
Very happy to assist!
agreed ...the rule book wasn’t great so this video helped a lot
Very clear ! Thanx man !!
You're very welcome Jacques!
I've played Clank like 2 years ago and loved it. Last week I got it as a gift for my birthday so this tutorial was quite refreshing. Didn't remember some stuff. Merci Rod!
Glad this helped and BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY :)
Great game! Amazing stuff from watch it played, as usual
Glad you enjoyed the video and the game :)
I just picked up Clank in Space. It would be cool if you did a "differences" demonstration between the two or an outright play through! (same for Aeon's End)
+Blake Curry Thanks for the interest. I haven’t had a chance to look at Clank in Space closely yet. We’ll see!
We really started getting into gaming in a big part because Teej was watching your videos. I think it's brought us closer together, even. There's something about sharing a tabletop game that's different than playing a video game together. We really have special times and great conversations when we play. :)
By the way, I think she's going to start going by "The Teej" instead of Teej after hearing you refer to her like that in the video about Santa's Workshop. Man, did you make her week! :D
Ha! That was fun to be able to do :)
Dominion is one of my favourite games. This is right up my alley.
Glad the video was of some help to you!
Thanks, this video helped learning Clank! Legacy :)
You're very welcome - have fun adventuring!
Thanx for your clear explanation! Very good, and your english is perfectly even to foreigners like me ;-)
Thank you Jason - glad you enjoyed!
This is amazing, very high quality tutorial
Thanks so much!
i cannot wait to get this game. I really hope you guys to a playthrough of this.
We'll see!
Great video for a fun game & glad to know I got the rule wrong about minor secrets (was only placing one). Need to try the app ASAP & looking forward to the expansion out soon too. Hope there's a WIP playthrough as it's quite fun to play but also see the game in action as there's a lot of player choice.
Glad you enjoyed Darren. We'll see about a game play :)
23:19 One of those rules which the rulebook fails to explain in detail. Buuut, that's why I'm glad Watch it played! exists. Thanks a lot!
You're very welcome!
My nephew and I love this game.
I'm going to try it with Luke later today :)
great video! thanks Rodney!
Glad you enjoyed!
Hi, Thank you for the video.
You're very welcome a mui.
Man you are great. This seems to be a heavy game and without your explanation it would have been difficult. Psst... I already bought the game.
So glad this was helpful!
nice ;) thanks Roderney!
You bet Ricky!
Wow you explained the game so well, thank you so much for making these tutorials, you make it so easy to start playing a new game! I played once and fell in love, are there any other games like this one?
So nice of you to say, I'm glad you enjoyed! I tend to avoid recommending games, so I can't help there, but all the best in your quest!
Watch It Played oh yes i remember from your other vids now, but i do remember you doing a top ten with someone?
I was invited onto the Dice Tower and did one there (when I'm not on my own channel, I will sometimes venture into review and recommendation territory).
Watch It Played Watch It Played ah eye sea! Well good luck on all future endeavours! And thanks again for making such great quality videos, I love your energy and happy attitude!
You asked this a long time ago but if I could recommend a similar adventure/race/deck building game I would love to recommend Road to El Dorado. Play is pretty simple but the board is ever changing and strategy can definitely change between boards and cards that are out. I highly recommend it and often people that are iffy about strategy games I've found can grasp and enjoy this one fairly quickly! :)
I played a 4 player game tonight with my kids. My kids have played before and they taught me the rules but, after watching your video, I realize that we made a few mistakes. We're going to play again tomorrow night and adhere to the rules. We had a lot of fun.
So nice to hear that you enjoyed, and glad to know the video was helpful!
Who else is here cause of tangos decked out 2
Great video sir! Thank you!!!
BTW Anyone else notice that the game board is very easily scratched, and marked up? Hope they change that on a second edition.
Thanks for checking out the video!
Very well explained Rodney... could you shed some light on the companion cards and what benefits you get? Thanks
Hey Abed, I don't tend to get into individual card effects (it becomes a bit too much for one person to cover across multiple videos of games :) ).
Just scored a brand new copy of this game at Goodwill for $3. Gonna be a good weekend!
Nice job!
@@WatchItPlayed Thanks! Was thinking about flipping it to buy another game I'm looking at getting, but after watching your video (as I do for nearly every game I own), I decided that this game looks awesome. Keeping and I see many hours spent on this one. Thanks again!
I ordered this game week ago and still waiting for package. What a coincidence rules are here. Thanks Rodney!
Hope it helps :)
Great tutorial! Thanks Rodney! Hoping to play this at Airecon this week!
Did you get a chance to? Hope you had a good show!
@@WatchItPlayed Yes. Enjoyed it too. We tried to catch you for a selfie opportunity but we think you must've been hiding away in the back rooms on day 1? Busy hosting!
@@toffah Yeah, day 1 was our busiest day for running events - sorry we missed you!
@@WatchItPlayed No worries! Great to see it so popular! Last time we came, the Friday seemed to be a quieter day! Will have to catch you all at a future event. Come back next year!
@@toffah I hope to!
Wil Wheaton needs to play this!
I just bought this game last week! Gunna play it with my wife on her next day off
I hope you both have a great time with it!
Play this and more at our free gaming meetups in St Paul Minnesota! @saintpaulgamegroup on meetup
This game looks fun! I'm starting to be over saturated in games, so I'm not sure this will make it in my collection anytime soon, but I'm going to have to keep it in mind!
Also, you mentioned the app, and that there'd be a link in the description. Maybe I'm missing it, but I don't see the app link.
Thanks for the reminder. Added!
Thanks so much for a great tutorial much clearer than the inadequate instructions book.
I'm fascinated by your accent. Can I ask where your from?
Hi Michelle, I am east coast Canadian. Glad you found the video helpful!
Wow! Expertly presented. Thank you so much for creating this video. We've played once and pretty much learned the game but we have some beginners' questions.
Q1) The "Wand of Recall" allows the player to teleport to an "ADJACENT" room. Can you clarify adjacent? Can I go to a room that's immediately near the room I'm in but is not connected to the room I'm in by a tunnel?
Q2) The "Secret Tome" cards cost 7 and are worth 7 at the end of the game, but they offer no boots, no swords, no special powers. Why would I want to buy one? We pretty much ignored them until they were all there was left to buy.
Q3) Can one player buy both the backpacks? more than one crown?
Q4) Mr Whiskers says the dragon attacks or -2 clank. Well, I can only think of a couple rare circumstances where I would want a dragon attack. If I don't have any cubes on the clank banner can I choose the -2 clank option and just say "all good", or do I have to have 2 clank which I can reclaim in order to use that option?
Hey Paulie, I'll see what I can do to help:
1) The room must be connected by a tunnel.
2) You would want them for their points. They aren't too great early on (as you say, they don't offer you much when you're trying to perform actions), BUT they are worth a lot of points, and points are how you win :)
3) Yes, you can buy more than one.
4) You may choose the -2 Clank! option for this card even when you have no Clank! in the Clank! area.
same day answer- most unexpected! Thanks much.
Question about entering crystal caves - you can't use boot symbols, so that means you can't move out of the cave at all, or you just can't move out via a path that has the boot symbols on it? So, at 13:05, for example, can you move back out via the top path with no boots? Or you basically can't move out for the rest of your turn at all?
Thanks! I've basically been binge watching your channel today to find new games!
Hey Ben, with Crystal caves, it's just that once you enter one, you lose the ability to use boots for the rest of that turn (thematically, the idea is that they are so difficult to travel in, they wear you out). At the start of your next turn, you can move as normal.
Unboxing now (with expansion Sunken Treasures)
Hi Rodney! A question. When you buy the Secret Tome, does it go into your discard pile or get sets aside because it only gives you points? If it goes into the discard pile, does that mean it starts to clog up your hand? Because it's really quite useless for game play, but useful only for end of game scoring.
That's right - it stays in your deck and can clog up your hand. So while it's great points, you have to be a little careful
Top teacher on the web
Thanks for the kind works Mark!
@@WatchItPlayed You are most welcome Rodney. As a retired couple we have found your instructions easy to understand and very informative. Along with watching the BGG guys of 'Game Night' fame (which we were pleased to see you guest on several times) you are our two main sources of information and over the last 2 years our game collections has expanded massively. Keep up the good work, everything you do is greatly appreciated out in the 'real world' LOL
You're doing the lord's work, Rodney
:)
Great video, very clearly explains the rules. I have a couple of questions: when the game ends (last person escapes the dungeon, or last person gets knocked out), are they allowed to finish their turn (eg. play cards, use their skill points to acquire more items), or does the game end immediately? Also, if the dragon is at the end of the rage track, and there's a monster card in the Dungeon Row that says to pull an extra cube when the dragon attacks, do we draw 6 cubes? That's how we've been playing it. Thanks! Peter
My understanding is that you would finish your turn if you cause the game to end. And yes to your second question.
Thanks!
This quickly became one of my all time favorite games.
Thanks for checking out the video Lorne!
Usually we play where we replace the dragon row every time every time the a card gets bought. Is that not correct? I think I was taught wrong.
You only replace bought cards at the end of a player's turn. It's very important to do it this way, as even if more than 1 Dragon Attack symbols are revealed at this point, you only resolve a dragon attack once.
Doing it this other way we did it makes it harder I think. There are more dragon attacks, some right in the middle of a players turn. Adds a level of suspense and consequence for yourself if you make off with too many cards. But it did create a rather long turn for someone who got amazingly lucky with her draws.
And hey, if you enjoyed doing it that way, you can always make that your own house rule :)
First game with son: 93 (he), 95 (me). Great game, we want to try other castles. We have the Sunken Treasures ready to go
So glad you're enjoying it!
Hello Rodney, 2 questions. For dungeon cards that provide gold, does that happen everytime you put in play area? And master burglar, do you trash a card only once or everytime?
Each time. To both.
This game looks pretty fun
Thanks for checking it out Garth!
I was wondering. Do you shuffle your Deck before each turn or just when you have no cards left to draw?
bigtiga kid Only when you would need to draw and your deck is empty. At that point you shuffle your discard into a new face down draw pile.
Hi Rodney. I have a question about the Wand of Wind. When it says "teleport to an adjacent room", does that room have to be connected by a white line, or can it simply be physically adjacent on the board? In the example you showed, the crystal cave was connected to the market place in the upper left corner of the screen but there was a second market place space in the lower left, which is also adjacent, but not connected.
You do need to go through a tunnel.
Great video!
Question: do you need a movement to get through a hallway with a monster?
Yep!
@@WatchItPlayed What about if it is a tunnel with 2 monsters? require just 1 movement or 2?
@@boscoszeto9362 It's still just one movement.
Great video. I want to buy my 1st deck building game to play with another person. Most of the time will be a 1v1, will you recommend Clank or Codex: Card....
Thanks. Keep up. This great videos
Glad you liked the video Andres, I talk a bit about recommending games here: ua-cam.com/video/p0Lv8LHadMc/v-deo.html&t=10m55s
Watch It Played thanks!!!
Thank you.
You're very welcome C!
I have one question and i hope you answer it, there is a card called treasure hunter and it tells me to replace a card in the dungeon row and ignore any attacks on the new card, so after replacing do i trash the card that i replaced or do i put it back in the dungeon deck and shuffle it ?
The card that was replaced is discarded. Hope that helps - have fun playing!
Great video! Legendary is the only deck builder I've really liked, but I love it. The game feels fresh every time you play. The variable mastermind powers and scheme effects combined with dozens of heroes with different abilities is awesome. Does anyone know how Clank! fairs on replayability?
Hey Pixxel, you end up getting to play it a few times to find out?
@@WatchItPlayed There's a funny story behind that. After a couple of plays I really wanted a co-op experience with Clank, so I spent hours and days trying to design one. I eventually got so far away from the Clank game I ended up designing my own game called Tracers. I printed a board and components, acquired an artist, and toured the convention circuit, intending to eventually kickstart it. I met dozens of amazing folks and had an absolute blast for a couple of years, until health issues forced me to give it all up. Although I failed in my ultimate goal I would do it all again in a heartbeat because I had so much fun...and I have Clank to thank for that. But I haven't played Clank again since. :P
@@pixxelwizzard What an unexpected tale! Sorry to hear about the health issues, but glad for your adventures along the way!
After the dragon attacks, do your color cubes come back out to the 'Clank!' area so they can be subject to negative clank effects, or stay in the bag?
Hey Lex, do you mean the ones that you put in the bag from the Clank area when the dragon attacked? If so, no. Well, except for the cubes that you pull out "because" of the dragon attacking, but those become wounds. You don't pull out extra cubes after that to refill the Clank area.
Nice video, do you need to spend a boot to travel through the monster tunnels?
Sure do!
I guess the only 2 questions I have are
1. How does picking up minors work exactly? I get that when I enter I can pick it up, but let's say that I have enough movement to leave the room and re-enter. Could I pick up the second one as well? Also, let's say I end my turn in this room picking up one minor secret and there was one more. Can I start my next turn picking up the minor and then leave?
2. The use of swords for dungeon travels. After my 5 card draw I have 3 swords, I want to move through a tunnel with the monster symbol, do I just need at least one sword to pass and then I'll still have 3 swords to spend on cards, or once I use that one sword to pass I drop down to only 2 I can use?
1. Yep, if you leave and re-enter, you can pick up the other token as well. You only pick up the token when you enter the room, so starting your turn already there wouldn't let you pick up the token.
2. Each time you pass through a monster space, if you want, you can spend a sword to not take the damage, but the sword you use, is spent for that turn, you can't use it again for something else.
Hope that helps!
Do you have to use the device on the same turn you acquire it or can you save it for a future turn since it doesn't go into your discard pile?
Yes, it has to be used that turn.
I know someone who has this game and when we play it I will know how to play even though i hsve not played before
I hope you really enjoy it!
New subscriber. I hope you can teach Arkham Horror. (not the card game) Thanks!
Thanks for joining the channel!
Thnx for explaining! The rulebook wasn't entirely clear on how to play :)
Very glad this was helpful!
I have a question: Do you have to draw a card at the beginning of your turn or how does the draw mechanic work?
Also TangoTek who made Decked Out brought me here and I am seriously considering buying this game
Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for. Thanks for checking out the video!
Thanks to Tango, I'm also programming a stand alone top-down rpg deck building game... I'm here doing research.
May I ask, what happens if I play some cards first and move to a Crystal cave while still have movements which basically cant use it anymore, however after i play more cards in my hand to draw new cards, i draw a "Dead Run" card which allow me to be not stop in Crystal Cave, so does the movements left over before i enter the Crystal Cave still counts or only counts the movements start from the moment i play the "Dead Run" card?
Good question! I must say, I really don't know. Would be easier if I knew the specific card text. The rules do say "Whenever you enter a Crystal Cave room, you become exhausted while wandering its maze-like passages and cannot use any more Boots this turn." That said, if the effect does indeed cancel the effect of the Crystal Cave, then 'maybe' it would let you reuse your leftover boots. I tend to avoid interpreting specific cards, as that's best left to the designers and publishers to give an official answer.
Well, the situation was my friend was at Crystal Cave with some movements left and he used "Sleight of Hand" to "Discard 1 card on hand to draw 2 cards", and one of the 2 cards was "Dead Run" which "+2 Clank and You don't have to stop in Crystal Caves this turn". The problem cause some talk between my friends and we all agree afterward to reuse leftover boots since "Luck" is a part of the game, you don't get to draw a "Don't stop in Crystal Caves" everytime.
Anyway, tks for the reply, love the video, I always watch your video before reading the rules and it really save the time and confusion a lot.
Question on one of the rules. If there is only a monster sign to proceed to the next cave do you only need a sword card to proceed or do you have to combo it with steps?
Sorry Victoria, I just happen to be traveling right now, and I’m not near my copy of the game to double check for you.
stupid question, but does it matter what order you play your cards? because there was a card that says to discard what's i your hand, idk if i'm making sense.
You can play your cards all at once, or one at a time (which if you had a discard effect, would let you discard something you hadn't played yet).
From the rules say: "You can wait and take your actions after you’ve played all of your cards, or you can take actions between cards if you wish"
Hope that helps!
When you spawn a dragon. do you grab the cubes shown on the current space and then advance the dragon or advance the dragon on the track and then pull cubes
I think you might be talking about two different things. The section here talks about what to do when a dragon attacks: ua-cam.com/video/EZQyr5JkbBY/v-deo.htmlm4s However, a dragon advancing on the track is something that happens every time an Artifact is picked up, and whenever a Dragon Egg (a type of Minor Secret) is discovered (or some other effect advances it).
If you teleport into a crystal cave as your first action, does that prevent you from using boots? I would think not since teleportation doesn't count as movement.
The rules for the Crystal Cave read: "Whenever you enter a Crystal Cave room, you become exhausted while wandering its maze-like passages and cannot use any more Boots this turn.". Although the teleport doesn't count as movement, the triggering effect is "entering" the cave, which still applies as I understand it.
