Falafel is a delicious traditional Middle Eastern food that is usually served with hummus and tahini sauce. These hearty, earthy fritters typically are fried in oil but we have adapted the recipe so that they are just as delicious baked and oil-free. Our favorite way to eat them is tucked into a wrap stuffed with veggies and topped with our hummus and tahini sauce.

I just made these yesterday and they’re so delicious. I’m going to double batch the recipe next time. Even my non WFPB husband enjoyed them-they’re THAT good. ❤️❤️
I used to make a mean falafel, browned in olive oil and then baked. When I came across Jill's oil-free recipe, I had to make them!! I made Jill's soy yoghurt recipe and put that over them instead of the tahini because that's how we used to eat them and they were delicious - a much healthier recipe without the oil and baked! Thank you, Jill!!!! So very grateful for all your hard work creating these recipes!♥
I love falafels so much. But can I just say that you are, to me, the Grace Kelly of the WFPB community. I just love your personality and essence! Thank you for all your wonderful recipes.
Beautiful inside and out!
This cooking show is authentic.
add dill ,parsley, and a bit of sppinach in the chickpeas and tastes amazing
Not if you don’t like dill, parsley or spinach it doesn’t
Fantastic version! I look forward to trying this. It will go well with an Israeli salad, chopped tomatoes, cucumber, and red pepper with an easy dressing of lemon or vinegar, salt and pepper. You can use that tahini sauce as a salad dressing as well! Love this channel!!
I can't wait to make these especially as I did not want to fry my falafels in oil. You have set out the making very clearly too. Falafels are also one of my favourate meals!
I'm buying chickpeas today! I can't wait to try this!
Would love to see a REVIEW please? Thanks!
Will be trying these soon. Thanks!
Thank you for this recipe, Jill! Falafel is one of my favorite foods. I'm very happy to see your approach. Cheers.
Delicious!!! I've ordered your new book and I'm really looking forward to its arrival!!!!
Love all your recipes. This is very close to original Turkish recipe.you d add more greens, cilantro in particular. And once you make mix,let it stay in fridge, easier to shape.
Thanks for all your work
looks amazing Jill, love these falafels in my lentil wraps yum. also I laughed when your husband sneezed! you managed to hold it well haha
Thank you! I’ll be sure to try this out. Looks fantastic.
I love them in pita bread
I have everything in my pantry to make this, will try today!
Once again, YUM! Thanks Jill and family. 😃
Yes. I love falafels. Looking forward to trying this.
You made 30 not 24! This looks great! Going to soak my beans now!
She needs to brush up on her multiplication skills, lol!
I’ve heard of the grammar police but this is the first time I’ve encountered the number police _ I guess obsessive people come in all shapes and sizes :)
Thank you
I have been looking for a great oil free falafel recipe and this is it! Thank you so much. Cannot wait to make these :)
I'm putting this on my next menu list. Thanks so much. Been looking for an oil free version.
Yum! I'm trying this! Thanks. 👍👍
I'm so excited to try this!!!!
Thank you for another great recipe. I I use a cookie scoop to portion mine out. Saves a lot of time.
I just made these, delicious and easy to make!
I'm so excited to make this! Actually, they are in the oven! Rich saw your video last night and requested them for dinner. I'm his wife, Brenda 🌼 Thank you so much! (I have coconut aminos since I couldn't find Braggs last time. I hope it works ok.)
I JUST discovered your channel so I'm binge watching!!! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN HIDING!?! 😂 I'm a no beef/pork girl since 1986. 😍 Going vegan...again.🥳
Fantastic Brenda 🙌🏻👍
Yasss!! Making these tomorrow!
Thanks!
Also love the teal color on your apron, shirt and the wall tile.
Thank you looks delicious I'll be making these tomorrow, soaking my chickpeas now👍
I like to spread hummus on some lentil or quinoa flatbread and wrap up the falafels. Serve with taboulleh. OR add from fresh mint to your tahini sauce. MMMMMMM! :D
Quit! You’re making me hungrier... 😉
Was that sound awesome
Im trying it tomorow for lunch in a wrap
Looks delicious yum 😋
Love falafels
I put barbecue sauce on mine and it is untraditional, but delicious!
using a cookie scoop works great for forming them
💗💚💗💚💗 Great !!!!
I just received a bag of dry chickpeas from Rancho Gordo bean club! Two cups to be exact. soaking now!
Fantastic! I absolutely love Rancho Gordo Beans!
That green on you!
Very pretty apron.
I use my medium cookie scoop to save me time after a long work day and then just flatten them with my fingers. I put them on my copper sheets since they stick to my silpat.
I've already made these 3 times! 😆🥰
We love them so much! I'm going to make your feta next! 🥳
I'm so thankful for your cookbook too! The brownies are a hit as well.
Brenda 🌼
Thank you Brenda
@@wholefoodplantbasedcookingshowwhich food processor is best at breaking down the chickpeas and are u using dry or canned chickpeas?????
Wow this recipe and channel is amazing! Just love the inspiring content and also how much value you provide to the community and especially the fitness people. I also made a lot of videos about healthy lifestyle, fitness and fat loss ❤️ just wanted to praise you Jill. Be safe
Thank you Tuan =)
for my sauce I use lemon, tahini, siracha and some dill. It is so tangy and good. I am usually no oil but I just use 1 tablespoon. A guilty pleasure
5 X 6 = 30 so you have an extra 4 more than you thought to enjoy. Looks great, gonna give this a go, thank you.
extra 6
I bought the 13 Cup Cuisinart just so I could make a whole batch this time! Rich loved them so much, I'm making a whole batch to take CAMPING!!! 🤗❤
I was sad this recipe wasn't in your cookbook, but I'll be printing it and I'll store it in your cookbook!!! (Until it's added to your upcoming one! 😉)
Thank you again for this yummy recipe!
Brenda 🌼
Happy to hear you all are enjoying them! This is indeed in our upcoming cookbook! 😋
For the tahini sauce I recommend garlic and grated radish. That’s from the south eastern Turkey.
Thanks for the tip!
I love your cool when the cameraman sneezes 😁
Great recipe! What can be used instead of chickpea flour? Would regular wheat flour mess everything up?
I LOVE falafels. Tahini is nice, but it's really the tzatziki that really makes it. I had hoped you had come up with a vegan version of this. :(
I ALSO love tzatziki with my falafels!
Tzatziki can be easily made with plant-based plain yogurt mixed with a little lemon juice, chopped cucumbers and dill or chives, and a minced or pressed garlic clove.
@@celestebeck4642 THANK YOU!
One of my favorite cucumber “tzatziki” dressings with falafels is from the “Jaroudi family” UA-cam channel ua-cam.com/video/6XlS0eYSesw/v-deo.html
Jill, I’m trying your dressing tomorrow!!
@@celestebeck4642 thank you!
You look especially pretty today! Your hair is perfect and the green color of your sweater top makes your complexion glow ! PS….I listen to your show often and enjoy it.
Thank you Jeanette 😊
What a beautiful woman, apron, sweater, bracelets and falafel!
6 x 5 = 30 - all the better. Gonna try this tomorrow.
Do you soak your beans or chickpeas in the refrigerator? I've seen conflicting info on this. Can't wait to try this tomorrow!
Making sure I understood you right, you said... Uncooked, soaked chickpeas? Thank you so much for another awesome recipe 😊
I make my falafel bigger, takes less time. I also triple batch, cook them, and freeze.
Mine came out crispy outside chewy inside. My mini food processor wasn't able to grind down the soaked chickpeas as thoroughly which probably made it turn out that way. I appreciate using raw chick peas where the protein content is higher per volume. In less than 10 bites, I get more than 10 grams of protein.
I will need to change a few ings as I have an lectin allergy. But they look yummy!!! 😊😊😊
Wow! Thanks for your work.
What do you make with them after freezing? Microwaving or baking again?
I usually just stick them in a wrap once they are thawed or if I am using them for a meal I reheat them in the microwave.
What kind of food processor is this? Capacity of the food processor bowl? This recipes looks delicious. 😋

Hi Jill ❤️
Hi Valerie!
This looks delicious, would it be possible to make them in instantpot?
I don’t think so
yes must definitely start with dry chickpeas as the cooked wont have the starch to keep the falafel together when baking.
No need for the flour or flaxseeds if starting with dry chickpeas . I use sumac for a more authentic flavor.
Looks delicious !! Did I miss something ? I was waiting for you to say, what temperature to use for baking ?
350 F
@@wholefoodplantbasedcookingshow Thank You !!! Looks great will make tonight !!!
Could I use a regular blender for this recipe?
I wonder how these would turn out using an air fryer. I'm sure someone has tried it!
Would love to try this, but having problems finding dry chickpeas in my area. I can find all sorts of canned chickpeas, but not dry. It is like once the stores ran out they stopped getting any more. So frustrating.
drool
Dear Jil, please let me know what choper do you use here! I just don't find it via this amazon link from discription box. Thank you!
amzn.to/3HYv4dC
If I used canned chickpeas, could I incorporate some of the aquafava as a binder?
I haven't tried using cooked chickpeas, sorry
I have made a similar recipe with cooked beans. Rinse them well. You don't need the aquafaba.
No canned chickpeas if you want yummy crunchy falafel
I use an ice cream scoop
Bake at what temperature? I didn’t catch it in the video anywhere

Good morning Jill , I soaked 2 cups of dry chickpeas overnight. In morning it turned out to be 5 cups of soaked chickpeas. I use the full 5 cups?
Yes.
How hot is the oven

I'm needing some help. I have a 10 yr old daughter that is super interested in cooking/ baking wfpb. What cookbook would you recommend for her? She's not afraid to enjoy various ethnic flavors, just an eager newbie.
So wonderful that your daughter is interested in healthy cooking! I remember so well when my daughters started and now they are well seasoned chefs =) I would suggest our cookbook that is now available for pre-order of course =)

Other than our cookbook, I know a lot of people swear by the Forks Over Knives cookbook

My local store is out of parsley. Can I sub it with Italian parsley or should I leave it out?
Italian parsley is fine.
@@wholefoodplantbasedcookingshow thank you for getting back so quickly!
I substituted fresh basil and it is good.
I will eat that whole pan🤦🏽♀️
I wish my teeth were as strong as yours
🤣😂😂
Thank you for another awesome recipe Jill! These look like a great freezer staple to have ready to throw on a griddler as a "blonde" veggie burger instead of my usual black bean veggie burgers. Btw, I think you owe it to yourself to find a kosher or middle eastern grocery and buy the ACHVA brand of whole tahini, that brand really is the gold standard. Usually about $3-4 per bottle, here's what it looks like for reference: persianbasket.com/achva-whole-grain-sesame-tahini
looks like they don't have it anymore.
Are they crunchy??
not really
If you make them into round balls and cook them in the air fryer they go crispy on the outside while remaining soft on the inside
better with siracha sauce
so soak only you don't need to cook after??
Yes, just soak them, no cooking
Even better if you spend time - a lot of time - taking the skins off the chickpeas
not trying to be rude but there are 8 people in our house btw i love your food
That’s not rude, just random
Are you from the South? The maternal side of my family is all from they South, and they all swear by onion powder and put it on everything. I think it's a regional obsession!
Some of my family is from the south but I am from the midwest.
So no need to cook the chickpeas?
no need
can you air fry these instead of baking?
Yes
6x5=30 :) not 24 :D even better...got a family of 5 to feed! ;)
You win some you lose some. I couldn't get the mixture to stick at all. Maybe too much water in the chickpeas??
Hmmm , not sure
Any one knows something to help me with hot flushes ???? AM SUFFERING PLEASEEE HELP ME
Accept them and they are no longer a problem
Did I see you throw ur spoon behind you on the floor?
*aquafaba*
I have a recurring problem with dry chickpeas that are too old. It doesn't matter how long you soak them or cook them. They just aren't right. Does anyone know how to recognize them? I can't discern the fresh ones from the ones that are beyond their usefulness.
One "trick" is to buy your dry beans from a store that often has empty or partially empty shelves in the bean aisle, so you know they are restocking the shelves often. Also, some brands put a "best by" or "use by" date on the package. The fresher beans have a date that is over a year away, sometimes 2 or 3 years away. Other brands will show the date on which they were packaged, which, obviously, should be as close to today's date as possible. The problem: not all dry bean packages carry an obvious date (some manufacturers use a code; some countries don't require the dates) and if you buy beans in bulk, you never see the package they came in at all. I don't know of any way to tell how fresh dry beans are just by looking at them.
That happened to me with a bag of kidney beans. I soaked for 2 days, then cooked and cooked for many hours and they were still hard! Yuk!
@@Di-up6to thanks I buy in bulk I should avoid that. A local farmer does have them seasonally.👍
@@MickyELee Not necessary, but if people aren't buying the bulk beans and they sit there and sit there and sit there, then, yes, avoid the bulk.
What can you use instead of Tahini? I really dislike it
Almond butter
You must of been pooped after making those because you counted 24 when there were 30. And I'm bad at math! Don't work to hard Jill! Actually work the same your georgous !! 😁👍
Who sneezed at the back? Careful
