Hey this was EXTREMELY helpful. I love how in detailed you went on what you did before as to what you have now. And how they dont understand the concept of glass. So true. Thank you so much.
THANK YOU!! I’ve been struggling a bit lately with my tortoise Nala because she was a gift and I didn’t know everything about what you need but now I know so thank you!!!
Your enclosure is amazing! This video is really informative and my freind who's been thinking about getting a tortoise found this video really informative
This is litterly my favorite you tube video!! You are so helpful and affermited! Thank you for thus video, my tortoise Sheldon is now a happy and healthy tortoise!
This video is amazing! You can tell that you totally know your stuff:) Super detailed and realistic (Not everyone is going to be able to spend 1000 dollars:)
Really like the setup you have for your tortoise. I'm getting one today and have a similar setup! Btw, I found your tortoise to be pretty funny eating away on the same section of the leaf through the whole video aha
I think it's amazing how she has one video (my favorite youtube vid) And has 155 subs, I am one of them of course. I would live to see a update, of your Lenard. He was very happy 4 years ago, and I am hoping he still is. Would also love to see his enclosure up to date.
This was a great video!! You speak so clearly, I'm getting a sulcata tortoise in about 5 days and I've been looking online to get some more information and helpful tips(: Thank you so much!
Oh my gosh,I love your enclosure for your little one! When my baby Redfoot gets about maybe three years old,I will TOTALY make one like that!Ill either make an outdoor enclosure,or something similar to your little ones enclosure in 3 years :) Mine is only 2 months old,so he’s fine in his enclosure
Your tortoise looks very healthy! I got my tortoise from this bad pet store and he has some shell problems. They didn’t have him eating calcium there, but he is looking better. For shell issues I recommend getting your tortoise outside a lot. As she said, the UVB is a lot better out there.
I made my enclosure out of an old kitty pool with a lot of space for my tortoise Missa, I filled the pool with dirt and made sure it wasn't soft that way she could stand firmly. I also added a log where she could hide in and a feeding plate where I feed here every day. For her protection I put wiring over the pool that way no animals could get in.
Jesus Vela U not supposed to feed tortoises every day it's unhealthy n it will make them grow too fast😳 they can go out n graze every day but they only need to be feed food three times a week🤔😉
Nice set up! I have a suggestion tho young tortoises are prone tho flipping over so you should put a barrier on the ramp to keep it from falling off the sides
wow thanx and really cool enclosure! i saved a leopard tortoise hatch ling in the road today and i'm looking for some ideas on keeping him safe till hes big enough to see properly. he's currently just under 2 inches. thanx again!
That fixture for your UVB the piece of plastic that's on the bottom will actually filter out the UVB rays, my suggestion would be to take it off if you can
This was so informative and your enthusiastic voice kept me watching Intill the end. Thanks for the info, and the lights always confuse me. Which exact lights do you need again? I have heard UVA & UVB and a heat light but idk.
I use paper as a substrate is that ok I have heard that it is flammable I also have no idea what species my tortoise is he is definitely a Mediterranean tortoise
You should use reptile bedding (dirt, aspen bedding, etc. - depending on the level of humidity your tortoise prefers) - the bedding you choose is a huge part of creating a suitable habitat for your tortoise - paper is probably not a good idea because your tortoise won't be able to dig or move very well. Knowing the general region your tortoise belongs in is really helpful in choosing a bedding so even though you don't know what specific kind of tortoise he is, you can guesstimate which kind of bedding would be best :)
Hi! I was just wondering when you put fake plants in your tortoises encloser, wouldn't the tortoise tend to chew on them? I am getting a Russian Tortoise and was just wondering if that was going to be a problem? Thanks!
my tortoise is going through the "burrowing faze" but she cant burrow in her habitat because it has a floor so i have to take her out and let her ruin my lawn lol
haha that's funny! It's good you make sure she can still burrow! You might want to try doubling or even tripling the dirt you put in the enclosure - I had to do that a few months after getting Leonard because I noticed how much he likes to dig :)
I love what you've done with the place. :) I want to build a platform to, so I could expand my tortoise terrarium. Which material did you use to build it? I have a tropical specie, so I need to make sure that the platform can't get moldy, cause I need a high humidity level.
thanks! We mostly used wood to build the enclosure (it is a flat wood top and four wooden cylinders supporting it with a wooden ramp wrapped in hemp). If you are concerned about humidity, you could always try something with plastic - maybe use a top of a Tupperware container for the base with half of a plastic cup for each leg and hot-glue it all together... Legos would work really well too :)
I have red footed tortoises!! I don't have a hiding place because they one of them will just stay in it!!! Do you have any ideas for hiding places? Should I do a ramp like yours.
a ramp is nice because you can peek around the other side and see them... other good hiding places are big plant pots turned on their side, stacks of bricks (just make sure they won't fall), or a pigeon box (you can get this at Michael's for a couple dollars) with the door taken off (that is what I originally used for Leonard). You can find some more ideas by looking at enclosures online. Just make sure they always have a hiding place- otherwise they will get stressed and that leads to lots of health problems.
Yes! UVA and UVB lights are extremely important for tortoises' health (especially UVB - it has to do with Vitamin D3 and without it they can develop bone diseases and other health issues). UVA light is important for energy levels and feeding. In the wild, they get lots of each every day so it is important to make sure they get the same in captivity. If you are interested, here's a great site about UVA and UVB light: www.drsfostersmith.com/pic/article.cfm?aid=827
you can... but don't keep them together without supervision.. I also have 2, they have separate cages or boxes but I put them together once and a while
Hi, I need to build my tortoise a bigger home, could you tell me what your enclosure is made out of please? :x I've watched a lot of videos and love this one the best.
hey the uvb light you have the long black ne you need to take the clear cover that's on the bottom of because the uvb rays cant go through that and it will harm your tortoise
I did put some fake plants in my tortoise enclosure but he just tried to eat them so I had to take them out. I don't hibernate mine because I'm to nervous about him getting to cold and dying do they need to hibernate or is it ok if they don't
Redfoot tortoises do not hibernate. They are a tropical species where the temperature does not fall much. If you try to hibernate a Redfoot tortoise it will DIE.
Mr. McCluckster Though the “God” part is debatable, some tortoises hibernate because the temperature is too cold where they live during some months. If they do not hibernate, they will die. Captive tortoises never really experience such things because everything is in the owner’s control, unlike in nature. Hibernation does not hurt tortoises (obviously) but if they don’t hibernate, it won’t hurt them. The main issue with hibernation is that if done incorrectly, the tortoise might become injured. It’s safer to not hibernate your tortoise unless you know what you are doing.
Jayy Williams his enclosure is a plastic Tupperware container from Target, but the platform is something my brother and I made out of wood. Plastic containers are an awesome alternative to expensive glass enclosures :)
I found an Injured tortoise in my front yard it was attacked by dogs and I have him in a shallow little tub right now with water and I'm worried!! idk what to do, I cleaned the wounds how long should I soak it? can it survive in my garage because I have dogs in the back!
Oh no! Check out this website for tortoise wound care: www.tortoisetrust.org/articles/firstaid.html The tortoise should be ok living in the garage as long as you use heat lamps to maintain an appropriate temperature and another lamp for UVB (important for D3). Make sure you research what kind of tortoise you found so you know what to feed him, what kind of humidity levels and temperature you should maintain, and how big of an enclosure he needs. Once his wounds are healed, he might be happiest if you release him back into the wild :)
It really depends on where you live. Randomness2014 is right about buying tortoises online - my brother got 3 (aquatic) turtles from www.theturtlesource.com/ and they are all healthy :)
+AgitatedGoose I actually have a box turtle. we found d him in our backyard easter morning. I ended up switching my heat lamp for one of those mercury bulbs (uv&heat).
+Kayce Norris you took him from the wild? If you did, I would highly recommend that you let him go. He knows what he's doing out there, and is likely very stressed that you took him out of his habitat.
Jaivon Stewart Including plants and bedding, probably around $40 (about $20 for the plastic container, $10 for the platform materials, and another $10 for bedding and rocks)
Hey this was EXTREMELY helpful. I love how in detailed you went on what you did before as to what you have now. And how they dont understand the concept of glass. So true. Thank you so much.
+Maya Sivamany thank you! :)
THANK YOU!! I’ve been struggling a bit lately with my tortoise Nala because she was a gift and I didn’t know everything about what you need but now I know so thank you!!!
Your enclosure is amazing! This video is really informative and my freind who's been thinking about getting a tortoise found this video really informative
This was very helpful because I just got a tortoise yesterday and I don’t know what to put it in or fed it so this really helped😊😊😊
You should probably do research first, but good job doing it now!
wow great video. Very beautiful tortoise by the way- it's refreshing to see minimal pyramiding on a tortoise in captivity.

The Pet Place I know right
Really like the setup you have for your tortoise. I'm getting one today and have a similar setup! Btw, I found your tortoise to be pretty funny eating away on the same section of the leaf through the whole video aha
Oscar M. ,they're plastic and they don't belong in an enclosure, only real edible plants for a tortoise should be in there
I think it's amazing how she has one video (my favorite youtube vid) And has 155 subs, I am one of them of course. I would live to see a update, of your Lenard. He was very happy 4 years ago, and I am hoping he still is. Would also love to see his enclosure up to date.
I found this very helpful my red foot is coming on the 18th so I am preparing ! :)
Best video ever made in tortie history!!!
thanks! :)
love the cage setup, beautiful
This was a good video and very informative. Turtles are my favorite animal.
I'm getting a Russian tortoise, this video was amazing! I really hope you make more!!
This was a great video!! You speak so clearly, I'm getting a sulcata tortoise in about 5 days and I've been looking online to get some more information and helpful tips(: Thank you so much!
Make sure you learn about the size of it, they will get big.
thanks! Good luck with your tortoise! :)
How are you doing with your sulcata?

A very well put together video. Thank you for the ideas.
thank you! :)
This is soooo helpful, this set up is awesome, I want to get a redfoot too

Nice set up! I have a suggestion tho young tortoises are prone tho flipping over so you should put a barrier on the ramp to keep it from falling off the sides
Thank you for the info! I think I might get a Russian tortoise for my birthday so this video made the research easy.
How interesting. Iwant to learn about the tortoises

Whoa. That exact same thing happened to me and my husband last year!
That's an awesome setup!

Thanks for telling me what to do and how you look after a tortoise.
you're welcome thanks for watching :)
This was so informative and your enthusiastic voice kept me watching Intill the end. Thanks for the info, and the lights always confuse me. Which exact lights do you need again? I have heard UVA & UVB and a heat light but idk.

hello I'm thinking about getting a box turtle or a tourits , how many times a day do you feed him .
Desiree Evans usually u buy tortoise food and fill a small bowl or tub and leave it for a day, and u can leave them some leaves
I have red footed tortoises!! I don't have a hiding place because they one of them will just stay in it!!! Do you have any ideas for hiding places? Should I do a ramp like yours.

I have a red footed tortoise and he is quite big I was wandering how big your plastic container is
You helped a ton Thank you
I did put some fake plants in my tortoise enclosure but he just tried to eat them so I had to take them out. I don't hibernate mine because I'm to nervous about him getting to cold and dying do they need to hibernate or is it ok if they don't
Mr. McCluckster lol u think God made tortoises hibernate lol they hibernate because there cold blooded
Redfoot tortoises do not hibernate. They are a tropical species where the temperature does not fall much. If you try to hibernate a Redfoot tortoise it will DIE.
Mr. McCluckster I have one about this size. I have a video of him on my page

What store can you find yellow footed to buy
It really depends on where you live. Randomness2014 is right about buying tortoises online - my brother got 3 (aquatic) turtles from www.theturtlesource.com/ and they are all healthy :)
how many watts is your heat lamp?! I think mine is too high
What tortoise do you have and how many watts is the heat lamp?

Thanks
amazing set up and cheap and well don on noing sowe mutch
I found a tortoise in my neighborhood the other day. Will it survive in the wild ? I think it's an African spur thigh.
If you found him in the wild he'll be fine :) It's usually a bad idea to put wild animals in captivity.
When you gonna post another video? 🥺
Good advise!
Thank you for this.
were can i buy a tortoise turtle at i live in Chicago
Is your tortoise a red foot or yellow foot?
Yellow footed, it said in the video
They're basically the same
