It is very important to soak your Russian Tortoise once a week so that it can clean its system. It's also very important for the health of the tortoises skin and shell. Thank you for watching, feel free to leave a comment and ask me any question.
so does it have its own tooth brush to scrape the poo off the shell or do you borrow someone elses when they arent paying attention?
HA!
Are u still alive?
😂😂
I laughed uncontrollably every time you said poop
Are you 6?

"if it feels comfortable for you, it will feel comfortable for him"
Better not let my gf wash a tortoise then .-.
What?
@@presidentofallfoodnice8113 It's a joke aimed towards the fact that women often shower with their water temperature set to "lowest level of hell"...
I just got my first Russian tortoise. This very helpful thank you
Holding your tortoise on the opened palm gives a much more solid platform to rest her plastron onto rather then dangling with a few fingers. Just a stress related thing. I have no discomfort with my Gilda as I have had her for 10 years now. You are right about it being hard to breathe on their back, that is stressful. It is good to take a paper towel or towel on your palm, then place your little friend on the towel therefore less stress of lying it on it's back at all.
You're right, I actually stopped soaking my tortoise in that tub as I saw the oily film on the water. Completely forgot about mentioning that once I stopped. Thanks for pointing that out as it is indeed very harmful
Use your own, have to save money in this economy it adds to the flavor of the toothpaste you use
Your videos are great. We just soaked our Russian Tortoise and it did poop. The white stuff also came out of him. Tortoise feels great now. It is great that we got this out. Very helpful videos. Thank you!
i watched adult russian tortoise for the first time in your youtube. respect for your effort and love to tortoise
Dang. All that tortoise does is poop.
🤣
They're so cute when they swim as you hold them
Great video helpful thank-you. She looks really well cared for and happy good too see. She is a sweetheart!
Im getting one of these this saturday :D
Oh good
How is he after 8 years?
Random Center360 😂
Curious how it’s doing years later
Lynette, thanks very helpful, just got my first Russian Tortoise
thank you, I think so too.
I'm getting a tortoise very soon this video is a good help know I know how to soak it and when to do it
I just got my Russian tortoise and this is very helpful thank you!
This is like watching Blair Witch with your camera skills.
😂😂
Bwahahaha!!!!! 🤣
Thankyou so much! My mum thinks that I wouldn't look after my tortoise if I got one, but I know I would, I'm getting a Russian Tortoise soon, so I've been doing my research. Great video!
How'd it go
Very Helpful! My son wants one for his birthday.
That's great, ever think of building her an outside enclosure?
always happy to help
She is about 16 years old, I have had her for about six years, her name is Potilla, and I don't know how long she is. Never thought that would come to be important but i'll check.
I have never looked at it from that angle
Thanks for the constructive criticism, not. She is only in there for a couple of minutes. I was holding a camera with one hand and a toothbrush with the other hand. Kind of difficult to remove the crap don't you think?
I don't own any reptiles, amphibians, or fish. But I followed this channel... Because I could.
that tootsie roll floating in there
Damn is that tootsie rolls floatin
Kimmy L lol
_Tootise?_
You're right that is a bit warm. But you could put her in it in the afternoon.
I'm planning on getting a Russian tortoise. I have all the plans ready. It can't wait!
You are looking at one right now. Russian tortoises are great beginner tortoises along side many other non tropical species such as the Greek tortoise. You don't need high humidity and they are hardy.
I bet that was your everyday toothbrush
I feed mine kale coolers lettuce and dandi lion greens. So I should mix in fiber with that I just got him a week ago
ok, thank you. i tried and this has helped alot. you've earned a new sub. :)
mine loved running water from the garden hose or from the faucet to soak in. not than just sitting in the water.
that is cool
Nice, they are a lot of fun
I love this tort!!!!!!! How old is she, how long have you had her, how long is she, and what is her name? I wanted to cry seeing her struggle on her back! I thought that I wanted a boy tort, but seeing her, I am not near so sure!!!!!
I liked it because his tortoise is really cute :)
Carly Koch it is a female so you're basically saying you have a crush 😅
My friend found her running around outside in germany (not a native species there) so they took her in. However his tortoise and this tortoise kept fighting so I bought her of him for like 50 euros.
It depends how busy I am, but between 5 and 10 min should be good.
Actually you can flip a tortoise on its back for about 8 to 9 minutes but if it goes to ten it starts to hurt the tortoise. They can breath but their lungs are pressured
I didn't want to come over as saying that you were inexperienced by saying that if you were not comfortable with handling your tortoise. That you was more like the you for the people in general. I like your advice, but the problem while making a video is that I only have one free hand so this is the safest way to hold the tortoise in the video. Otherwise I will try to adopt your way of holding the tortoise. Thank you for being respectful and not ignorant like some other fools
Tortoises are generally not animals that like to "play" They are not what people consider social animals. So to reduce the stress I try to not move my tortoise around too much.
your video's are very well done young man, and you have a very nice Russian. I have a large male I have had for about 5 years now.
I wonder how big they get I have a Russian Testudo tortoise small but not that small I’m a kid so it doesn’t fit in my hands
This is normal, your tortoise is just scared of you. Once it gets to now you better this will stop. To help, approach your tortoise slowly and make sure it sees you approaching it. When you pick it up don't pick it up from behind but instead make sure it can see your hand
No problem
I have the same opinion, but I really don't know where my tortoise came from.
I cant remember, but its pretty dang big. Molly's about 6 cm across right now. U can see her in my vid "Molly exploring the garden"
Great video. Is it true Russian Tortoise live 40 or more years?
@RussianTorts, can you please tell me how many times you have to bathe your tortoise each week
I feed my tortuises a kale collard greens and dandi lion greens. Should I mix in fiber?
Thanks for the Tutorial
Hi. I have an important question. My male russian stop eating for weeks now and he just want to sleep. Why is this? Can it be that he wants to hibernate? Please help. Thanks
One day my kiwi will be big like your Penelope
My tortoise has stuck shed on the back near his tail. Its peeling but not fully coming off. It’s actually the complete rear of his shell. How can I fix that? I’m the new owner. I just got this tortoise two days ago. I’m not sure if the last owner knew about this.
I can't. Its 115 (highest temp) and the pet smart lady said to keep her in 75-80° weather inside.
I have no idea. Probably around 16 years but that is just an educated guess.
It's safe to give them a bath in tap water?
do I use my own toothbrush or get a different one just for the tortoise?
Can we wash them in a bucket
We're did you get the tortiose and is it ok to get 1 at petsmart
My brother is getting one, what would we need to do to "prep" his room
It looks like one but there is one sure way to tell. Look at your tortoises front feet. If it has four nails it's a russian tortoise, if it has five its something else
Could you use a shoe box as the transporting thing?
Definitely, just make sure it doesn't climb out
A friend of mine found it outside and I got it from them, I got a video with that story on my channel if you're interested. And I personally wouldn't advise on getting a tortoise from petsmart, I would get one from a local breeder. They are cheaper and in better shape than those at petsmart.
I got mine from petsmart cause the conditions it was in was horrible and I had to save it!
Your diet sounds fine to me. Just add a source of calcium (powder, or cuttlebone) and you got your basic diet. If your worried about fiber you can also try giving your tortoise some timothy hay.
Alright, well as long as she got a big and awesome inside enclosure you are safe
Well nothing really, as long as you got your tank set up properly (which I'm assuming you have) it doesn't matter how your brothers room is. Just make sure you got somewhere close by to place the misting bottle, poop bucket, calcium powder, hay, and all the other supplies you might have. I got a big cupboard under my tortoises tank for that reason.
I've never soaked mine. >.< Oops. I'll be getting right on that!
Its kind of big. she's still a baby, but she's growing a ton. We're getting a bigger enclosure when its getting cramped for her.
I just use a big tupperware tub, drop them in it, go to the sink and fill it. Eliminates any carrier or dirtying things up. Also I can put them in the sink while I get fresh water after they poop then back in they go. I refuse to let them soak with floaters and tear them up, no one wants to soak in shredded turd water. My female set a record yesterday...SEVEN times.
2:23 ALL YOU SEE IS A BROWNE THING COME OUT AND UM.... WHATS THAT LOL XD
great information
so cute ! im trying to convince my parents to get me one !!!!
six years later, did you get it?
Please make a positive comment that I can read/show to my mom! I really want one!
good video. I have A Russian tortoise named bubba. I bath him regularly. ido it in alarge tub in my backyard. he always goes to the bathroom and does his business in there
Nice, i hope you do as they are great pets
How do I tell how old it is. I got one yesterday... I have all my questions answered accept this one. I want to now how old it is.
I love your videos haha thanks for the help.
Hey thanks this was really helpful
Not a problem, glad I could help
Can you let me know if the tort I have is a Russian please look at him on my you tube vid please comment thanks
What do it mean when his skin is shedding??do that mean he growing
every time i puck up my russian tortoise, he pees and poops as soon as you pick him up, is this normal?
What size is the cage?
His problem of rudeness would still not be solved by that.
Are these tortoises very friendly i might get one. Do they play?
Iv had one for 3 years and I haven't washed him well I have poured a tiny bit of water down his shell is that bad?
Jake productions6 yes its bad...u should bath him 2 or 3 times a week.for 20mins... hope u give him water to drink too
hello, I have a russian tortoise and I have seen getting big! her shell looks bigger with marks around the line they usually have… help me it seems to me like she has over growth.
Is there any way you could send me a picture on my facebook page? its RussianTorts on facebook. Would make it easier to help
Doesn't that tub that you use to wash your clothes have soap?
it is a sink regularly used for cleaning clothes, he said. he most likely cleans the sink after he uses it so that not only the people using it after don't get gross turtle poop on the, but so that the turtle isn't bathing in a dirty sink.
This is cool and all but aren’t colds caused by viruses and not simply by a change in temperature?
great video
No problem, make sure you do research with multiple sources so not to base all your tortoises care on one persons opinion. Good luck
great video!
Um like what’s the exact temperature for the water I lost all feeling in my hands so I don’t really know how high or low it is thanks
thepaleodude YT thanks for the google part just the last part made no sense just make it warm I can’t feel warm
thepaleodude YT no you didn’t I have to explain warm thanks for the paragraph.I just meant when you said make it warm I kinda laughed because I would never would have felt if it was warm because no feeling in my hands at all but now I know the right temperature I just use a thermometer
Elliott Saksa feel it with any other body part
Just put a large enough, shallow water bowl in their indoor and outdoor pens and there's no need to soak your Russian. I've had my Russian group for 12+ years and never soaked them because they find the water bowl and drink from it 2-3 times a week.
I've had my Russian since late December. I'm wanting to soak him but I've heard from numerous people that they always need to have purified water, no matter the case. So if I just fill up my sink with tap water, that would be fine? or do I need to put drops in after I have it filled?
Depending on where you live tap water is fine. However, if you want to play it safe, it is always a good idea to dechlorinate the water. Zoomed makes a product called "ReptiSafe" but you can also use any other fish water conditioner. I have done both and my tortoise has been fine
RussianTorts You've helped a lot! Thank you!
RussianTorts umm what if I live in Ohio is it fine to rinse them there with tap?
How old is the tortoises?
Her legs would still dangle if I do that since she is bigger than my hand. I usually don't hold her long anyways, just for the videos to show people what she looks like. You're right about the drying but my tortoise normally goes into hiding after a bath so she wont dry of in her hut. She doesn't look stressed to me when I dry her, she is pretty used to me.But I agree if you are not really comfortable handling your tortoise just toss her back in the cage to let her dry
Are most that big cause I want one I'm researching
