Do tortoises like being touched? "We don't know, but from what we can tell, we're pretty sure they don't dislike it. They don't try to move away and don't try biting us, so we think that's good."
Tortoises are capable of tucking their heads in their shell if distressed, annoyed, or not liking the feel of something so at the very least they're okay with being touched. How much they like/dislike/are neutral to touching we may never know because as reptiles, they lack facial features capable of most facial expressions so for all we know, they're laughing at us for being weird.
@@joshuakim5240 Very true, however! Animals that *lean into* touch stimulation often find some sort of satisfaction from the action being dealt to them. Yea I have a sulcata
Such lovely, adorable and innocent creatures.
I find it fascinating that so very many species enjoy being gently rubbed/stroked or held/cuddled... from birds to tiny mammals, even sea creatures.
There seems to be something universal about calm tactile sensations that cross the species barrier.
I like to think of it as a primordial connection from long ago that still remains.
Why is there beauty in the world? Because God created it. Nature is not some sterile accident.
@@semper_reformanda_1517 yes it is. And that’s what’s amazing about it. Don’t give credit to where it is not due.
such is the beauty of a world where chaos is the norm
@@semper_reformanda_1517 why do you create imaginary beings to simplify incredibly complex topics into fairy tale concepts that have no basis in reality? because of ignorance about subject matter
@@whitedinamo I was religious until my adult years, I am well aware of positives of religions, definitely more than the average believer who just accepts it as it is.
just because its used as a way to connect with other people, a reason to self improve, to cope and create purpose, to create positive values and habits, to have a spiritual outlet etc.
its still about believing in a imaginary guy in the sky with accompanied fairy tales that has no basis in reality

Have someone made a picture of a snapping turtle with the text "I'm about to snap"? Otherwise I'll do it, maybe.
actually there was a video of a guy who has a common snapping turtle as a pet.... They love being touched... he did it several times in the video. The turtle had no aggresive reaction at all.
Oh snap
I have a feeling that tortoises view us as sort of organic scratching posts. They're all like, oh, oh, if I stretch my neck out this beasty will come and scratch it! I haven't been able to reach that itch in 20 years!

I love that tortoises look animatronic, at all times, cause of their stiff slow movements, you can only real tell when you're in person
Y’know, I’ve never seen them that way before.
They aren’t as receptive or affectionate as other domesticated critters, but they still lean into the scritches like anything else. Very cute.
Especially their butts. They really enjoy having their back end rub against something. 😅
My neighbor looks like a tortoise...but when i caressed his face like shown in this video, he got very angry. Why is that so?
Did you entice him with a leaf first before touching his face?

You gotta touch his neck and back more, that's what they really like. Maybe even pat his ears.
