This has been requested a few times, so here is Sheldon's tortoise table. Sheldon is a three year old medeteranian tortoise and this is his enclosure at the moment. He will be getting a bigger table as he grows. Let me know if you have any questions and thank you for watching :)
I’ve researched a lot of reptiles (I think they’re really cute and cool 😂) but tortoises seem to be the ones my parents agree with :) so I’m doing LOTS of research in hopes to get one soon! This video really helped :)
Me too! I'm doing lots of research as well, and i'm super excited :D
Same
Me too !!!! 🤣🤣👍👍👍👍
THIS IS SO CUUUTE I have an adult horsefield tortoise who is VERY affectionate and climbs into a corner when he wants to be held or cuddled and I personally think it's adorable
Aww he sounds like a character 😊
He really is 😊
@NoTopic YT some people dont
+dcgc2012 I recommend following the Tortoise Trust's advise of a mix of top soil and Children's play sand. I have also found that many tortoise resources provide conflicting advice, it's hard to know who to listen to. You might want to play around with the quantities to find out what works best for your tort, I started with a 50/50 mix and now it's more like 70/30 (70 being the top soil).
It also can depend on breed/personality as well so it's so conflicting. That was the worst part when we were new owners.
Hi, you have been really honest. It is incredibly hard to find reliable tortoise information, and I was also given poor care advice when I first brought my tortoise home. I have found the tortoise trust website really useful and would definitely recommend checking that out. What species is Shelldon? :) You can always contact me if you need any help with tortoise information :)
Baby tortoises are tiny, he has just turned 3 :) He is about 5 inches long, he could grow up to 8 inches but it depends if he is a boy or a girl ( It's hard to tell because he is too young, I think he is a boy but Sheldon could be a Shelly haha) I am hoping to do a diet video soon so that might help you if you decide to get a Hermann :)
My tortoises only have a glass tank with some substrate, but they spend the whole summer outside and are only in their enclosure when it’s too cold outside.
Hello, I'm thinking of getting this breed of tortoise, but research is difficult as different websites say different things. Your tortoise looks healthy and If you wouldn't mind, can I ask how often you feed it and with what?
It is difficult finding reliable info on tortoises, I recommend the Tortoise Trust: www.tortoisetrust.org/
Here is my diet video: Mediterranean Tortoise Diet - Hermann's, Horsfield's, Greek, Egyptian and Marginated. , the best diet is a variety of fresh edible weeds, flowers and grasses as it is the most natural, I just fill up his bowl as it runs out so he can have a munch whenever he chooses :)
Thank you so much
No problem :)
Yes
7:00 Died.
You take great care of your tortoise. You made a lovely house for him , making him feel nice and comfortable. You’re great!

+Miss Zeus, 2 or 3 times a week, she also has access to fresh water in a shallow dish in her enclosure at all times and is pretty good at soaking herself too :)
hi, is she breeding already? thanks.. :)
+Jeff Cobain she thinks it's a boy, :)
littlelotti24 yeah, but she already figured it out.. :)
i wonder how is shelldon doing right now.. (^_^)
+Jeff Cobain idk I miss him haha or her?
littlelotti24 she made a new video about shelldon just few days ago.. :)
Thank you :) They are such fun pets :)
your voice's cute
g-Littlebrother Channel i know here voice is cute
I was going to call my herman tortoise Sheldon but I found out she was a girl so I called her shelbie . I got her 3 days ago as a early Christmas present
I have a Greek tortoise named Sheldon! :) he's named after Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang Theory
So is mine, I love that show :)
Hi I was wondering where the tortoise table is from?btw I subscribed
My tortoise just lives in my garden, loads of room, trees, plants, soil to dig in. Hibernates throughout winter, then we put food out everyday day or so for him during spring through summer.
how is the tortoise doing after 4 years
When they are young it's best they are kept indoors with access to uvb and uva rays and of course correct temps
Hell no. I would personally never risk it, imo.
I spot clean his enclosure every few days and give him a full clean out every 3-4 weeks. His food is free because I grow it all in my garden. I buy him supplements, cuttle bone, UV-B and heat bulbs when they blow, top soil and play sand for his substrate and hides and decorations occasionally. That's pretty much it, he is relatively cheap to keep compared to my other animals :) His set up was expensive initially though.
you know where any breeders in NI
Have you had any luck. You could maybe try the reptile shop!
ILIKEBARBECUEs So I DO I only have lists of reputable breeders in the UK so I'm not much help here. You could try asking on tortoise forum and see if anyone knows. Make sure the one you go for is captive bred and not taken from the wild. Maybe you could look into adopting?
ILIKEBARBECUEs So I DO I bought mine in reptile hunters and he's very good, a Hermann costs 150 pounds
Hi, I'm from NI too!!
I also have a hermann tortoise named sheldon....i just cant tell u how much i love him ❤❤❤ hes soooo cute and couldnt imagine life without him
I might be getting some tortoise
If you live in Brisbane you and I can get together with our new tortoises
Did u get one
I'm 3 years late but this little guy is awesome :)
He's still around starring in some of my videos :) Feel free to check out the tortoise section on my channel x
May I ask if Sheldon is in a zoo-med tortoise house?
How big to Hermann tortoises get? And can you please leave some suggestions for tortoises that don't get to big and stay in the smaller side. Thanks
Zee Riyaz The smallest fully grown are the musk tortoise, and Hermann tortoises also stay small (6-8in.) Russian tortoises also stay small.
Gabriella Flores thanks so much for the help! I did some research, & I did find out that the musk tortoise isn't the best for me, but thank you so much for the help
Zee Riyaz you can get a Greek tortoise
Zee Riyaz I have one that's similar to like of this tortoise on the video
Zee Riyaz box turtles dont grow to big they grow about 6-8 inches😊
Love all your videos. Can you let me know what lamps you have got for Sheldon. I heard ypu had 2 so just wondered what they were.
Thank you ❤️ I currently use the Arcadia D3 bulb which is a combined heat and UV bulb. I normally use 1 but sometimes have to use 2 in the winter to get the temperatures right for her 😊
Does your tortoise smoke crack
Spud3018 Yes, why?
What do u film your videos on
I think this video was filmed on my Sony Handycam, My more recent videos are either on a Canon 700d or if I'm feeling lazy my iphone haha 😂
I have the same kind of turtle and he does the same kind of things does your turtle does
I have a hermann tortoise too :) I neeed that sign! 😂
Oh wow I didn't know you have a tortoise! Sheldon is awesome and so is his enclosure! :D I kept thinking he was quite large then whenever your hand was in the shot I couldn't get my head around how small he was haha xD
I love tortoises, they are quite complicated to care for though so you need to do lots of research first :) In the wild they choose to be solitary so they are usually housed by themselves. I have a tortoise care section on my channel for in depth diet, housing videos ect but my videos only apply to Mediterranean tortoises so it depends what tortoise you get, they all have different diets and requirements :)
My tortoise’s name is Shelly
Is it a turtle or a tortoise? They are totally different and I can only help out with tortoises. If it is a tortoise, bananas are really not good, I don't know anything about turtles but I'm pretty sure they aren't good for them either. Do you know what species it is? Different species have totally different diets and housing requirements. Sorry for bombarding you with questions but I'd like to help as much as I can with this little guy/girl.
Tortoises do naturally hibernate during the winter. I did not hibernate him that year because I had only just got him and when I got him he was on a poor diet. I didn't want to hibernate him while I was changing him on to a healthy diet because hibernation can be dangerous if they are not the right size and weight for their age. He is now on a good diet of fresh weeds, flowers and grasses and is a good weight and size so I'm planning to hibernate him this year :)
Hermann tortoises are strictly herbivores, which means they don't eat any live or dead animals or bugs. They only eat plants, grasses and flowers. I have a video on what Hermann tortoises should be eating. In the future you may want to research about the pet you are getting before you bring them home, you also need to see if something is harmful to them before you try to give it to them, too much protein can cause severe shell deformities. Please look at the tortoise trust website.
I use 50/50 top soil and play sand, I get top soil from a garden centre and I get sand on-line (I Google it and see where is cheaper at the time) I'm not sure how much it costs to run his lamps, it just comes out in my electricity bill XD. I have a heat lamp and a UV lamp for him, I don't have a heat mat because if tortoises get too hot, they dig down to cool off, so having heat underneath them really confuses them and it much more natural to heat them from above, like the sun would :)
Check out the Tortoise Trust website, they have really great reliable in depth info on tortoise care, there are other vitamin supplements but they do need calcium in it because of the lack of calcium in the soil compared to the Mediterranean soil, the plants don't contain as much calcium. I'm not sure about torts that tiny, I have had Sheldon since he was two so don't have any experience with hatchlings, they may need different vitamins for growth, I have no idea :/
Yea, if she fell in the pool it's probably best to build her a permanent enclosure so at least she cant get into any accidents. Make sure she always has access to fresh water in a shallow dish though. If you are making one out of bricks, make sure nothing can fall down on her, tortoises are really strong and can knock things down while trying to climb them.
yes I find it small, I am worried too and the biggest problem is my mum and sis don't want me to put a bigger cage. It is not good small area, I think I have to wait till next yr when getting married, I will be able to get bigger. I hope my torts are ok with the place. It is too difficult to convince my family :(
I have 1 big radiated, he is 3 years old but he's staying at my fiance place because we can't keep both species together, and radiated tort is very aggressive, he has bitten my fiance's big aldabra tort's toe :( but we don't keep different species together, I heard it is not good. You hermann tortoise is very cute, we don't have it here in Mauritius :(
Mediterranean tortoises need calcium supplements because their food in their natural habitat grows in calcium rich soil so we need to supplement that. They also need a wide variety of fresh weeds and grasses such as clover, milk thistle, dandelions ect. What species is your tort?
I don't know if there is anything they can pass onto each other but I keep some alcohol free sanitising hand gel under his table and use it before and after handling him just in case they can catch anything or if I have anything on my hands that could hurt his skin :)
I got him from a small local pet shop with a specialist reptile section, I wouldn't recommend getting pets from big chain stores as they have been known to care more about profit than the welfare of their animals. Hope this helps :)

90 x 35cm? You may have to upgrade it when your tort gets bigger, it's not a lot of space, have a look on the Tortoise Trust website, they have really good tortoise info on different species, it is hard to find reliable tort information on the internet :)
Soil is more natural and wood dust is bad for their respiratory systems and can also kill them if they ingest it :( It can also give off toxic fumes when it heats up under the light. What species is your tortoise?
His enclosure? I cheated and bought it but bookcases flipped on their back with the shelves take out make great enclosures, I've done that for his outdoor enclosure which he goes in on nice days :)
Please also see my video on setting up a tortoise enclosure so you can check you have everything you need set up for him, I talk about supplements, light, heat, water, baths, stuff like that :)
The Tortoise Trust website is really good and has a section on hinge-backs. Hinge-backs are omnivorous and insectivores so you will need to look at a varied diet. I will message you the link :)
Mine I have 2 aldabra torts they are babies, they are around 6 cm. the cage is 90 x 35, do you think the size is enough for them? I just got the cage yesterday. I will put the soil today, thank :)
Where is the species from? Mediterranean torts have different requirements to tropical torts for example. I heard you can't mix species too, I didn't know they bit each other :O
I got him from a small local pet shop with a specialist reptile section, I wouldn't recommend getting pets from big chain stores and I don't :( Maybe I should start it :)
It's because they are trying to stop people importing tortoises so people only keep captive bred torts. I think it's mean taking a wild one out of it's habitat.
I think he might be too but he is still young so it is kinda hard to tell, that's why we named him Sheldon, in case he turns out to be a Shelly XD
He is, he only needs a full clean every few weeks, I just pick out his stinky poos, change his food and water the rest of the time XD
No I don't, I only have Sheldon as tortoises live alone and I don't have space for another enclosure at the moment.
Great video! Shout out from the Animal Papa Family!!! Check us out!!!
Thank you, I have loads more tortoise videos on my channel too :) I will check it out x
Maybe you could cover the pool up when she is out? Those chemicals can't be good for her, at least she is okay :)
Sheldon's adorable! I have a Hermans tortoise too, mines a 3 year old male named Turtle! I'm glad I came across your video, I've been looking for ideas for his future enclosure. The one he has now works, but its a bit boring so I've been looking for ideas to spruce it up. I love what you've done with Sheldon's enclosure, and it's given me lot's of inspiration on what I can do with Turtle's enclosure!
Between him and his enclosure, lamps, bulbs ect it was over £200, they are very expensive to start with.
Radiata torts are origin madagascar, aldabras are origin Seychelles but both born here in Mauritius.
"Thank you for making the video. I enjoyed watching it. Sheldon in very cute." -evie (4)
Oh no you shouldn't have told me that! Eeeeeeeeeeep sooooo adorable I want one! Hehehe
I'm so glad it's given you some ideas :) Thanks for watching x
He.is.so.cute.and.friendly. He loves you, you can.tell.and you lovhim.too!
Hi, I just love your turtle. I am from Puerto Rico and ussually, Pet Smart only sales red foot tortoise. Am hoping to get one, one day, and I've been watching all your Sheldon's videos. My questions is: Does tortoise need a heat lamp or a heat rock, like reptiles does?
I need advice for what kind of rock to buy for scratching for my tortoise? Thank you!
Awesome :) I don't know what Sheldon is either, what is your tort called?
Hi! I am getting a Hermann tortoise soon and I have a question; if I keep my baby tortoise in a 100 by 45 cm tortoise table, will it be able to live there most of its life (with daily outside walks, and supervised daily roaming around the apartment) ? If no, how long can I keep him in there?
Thinking of getting my daughter Have a corn snake And have read a bit abt tortoises Know it's s big commitment But been thinking about it For a while So might get one from the pet shop My son works st So know it's been well cared for As my son takes care of themAnd it would have a first clsss home Would have great set up And no expense sparred. Lol
OMG he looks SOOOOO much like my 4 year old eastern Hermann, it is uncanny.
Hello
Love your video's. I'll be getting a baby hatchling hermanns soon. I have his enclosure all ready. But I'm concerned about the temperatures. I have the basking side with a heat lamp. And the investigation lamp over the whole area. But the heating is only 85 dgrees. How far should the heat lamp be to the tortoise or substrate? Because I could lower it to bring the temp up abit. But I do not want to have it to lo to him.
I have one too and his name is splat because he loves water lol
Julia The Unicorn do they get big?
tortises are soppouse to get in swim in water
Tortoises are turtles that live on land turtle is a type that lives in water
Julia Rose p
Waffles no they aren't those are turtle, tortoises live on land, tho they do take dips in the water
Bless her, that sounds horrible for her :( at least she is okay now :)
I have a tortoise named buddy and is in a REALLY REALLY REALLY small cage :( idk how expensive this cage is.. ?
Thank you for your video. Very interesting as I will be getting a tortoise soon and I'm really grateful for any advice. Please could you let me know how big Sheldon's enclosure is?
I need some help, I'm looking to get my first Tortoise but I don't know what kind to get, I don't want one that is to small and very picky with food and habits because the Tortoise will be outside most of the time and I live in a tropical area so the temperature is always about 80+. But I don't want a giant one that will be hard for me to house inside. I was looking at maybe a Red foot but I still don't know. Any ideas?
My little baby tortoise that I got from tortoisetown.com. Died his name was Sheldon as well!
So now, he is 7 years older 😁
I have 2 Marginatas, Joseph and Jacob.
Greetings from Germany. 🐢🐢
The problem with so much stuff is that my tortoises pisses everywhere & then you have to lift everything up & that's where the urine stays so it's a constant cleaning daily battle....but my tortoise likes things simple. I have tried that cave thing, fake plants etc, he seems very frustrated with those things & it looks like it stresses him out so I take it all out & now he's calm, he's a simple kinda guy
We have had ours a couple weeks now. Luckily in South Texas I am able to take him outside daily to acclimate him to the humidity but soon he will have an enclosure indoors and outdoors. My dogs are the biggest obstacle but they are curious not aggressive.
I have a Rio Grande slider named Sheldon! I'm also thinking about getting a tortoise!
can I fill mine with wood dust instead of soil? which is better?
Awwwwww itty bitty baby tortie needs baths!!! I'm melting hahaha
Your very welcome!
Thanks for this I’m getting a Herman tortoise soon and I wanted to see what an enclosure would be like.
Glad this helped, since this video I have built Sheldon a bigger enclosure if you wanted to see. ua-cam.com/video/XWErAoItijo/v-deo.html I also have a whole tortoise playlist on my channel with advice on topics like diet and substrate. It’s awesome you are doing research before getting your tort as they are complex little creatures :)
Looks like Sheldon From Splatoon Became a full tortoise, its so cute petshop!
He is captive born and bred but he originated from Macedonia
Omg this is the same enclosure as my tortoises too!!!!
He doesn't poo much, he mainly poos when I give him a soak.
Lol. I know! But then, if it's what you're into and you have the time, space etc, why not! I mean I have 5 hamsters, soon to be 8 in a couple of weeks! x
Really good video... Umm what do you have in his little hidey/bed thing and how big is your table thanks:)
Aww he's so cute and it's so awesome how much you love him ;) ;)
when you clean his enclosure do you take out all the soil? If so I'm guessing you have to fill it with brand new soil right?
won't it affect the eyes I mean with the soil and sand?
I bet you do haha no one thinks they have an accent :)
Do you know what causes lumpy shell or pyramiding. Be great if you can get back to me
you named your tortoise sheldon? FUCKING SHELDON!
I'm getting a tortoise next week and I've not been able to make up my mind between the horsefield and the hermann. After seeing Your Sheldon and his beautiful shell Im 100% getting a hermann! Thanks for uploading this video I enjoyed it and its helped me alot :-)
Mine was £60 and yes they are called tortoise tables
