What’s the American Gangster movie about?
Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington from The Equalizer and Malcolm X) decides to take over his boss's business after he died. He becomes a powerful drug dealer, who manages to overcome the American mafia thanks to a new strategy: he starts selling heroin directly imported from Vietnam half the price of other dealers, while his quality is much higher. This drug, Blue Magic, is making its success. But Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe from Gladiator and Man of Steel), a New York cop who lost his teammate to an overdose, is going to try to bring him down.

Of course not. The suspect fell while absconding and injured his back.
Old style projects like this had spotters all over the place, people on the roofs, people in the staircases, people outside. Any police that were approaching or coming in for a raid the spotters would be whistling or yelling or whatever they do to alert people inside. There is no way that many officers could get that many floors up without the people being alerted. Or at least that’s the experience i saw with Cabrini green in Chicago, idk if New Yorkers were just dumber or if they truly just had to pass it off as believable for the movie
In reality they probably had an advance team of plainclothes to take out the spotters quietly like five minutes before the wagon showed up. But the movie didn't have time to show all the advance work that goes into a raid. Lots of movies have to be cut for efficiency, only showing what the audience needs to see to move the plot forward. Sopranos was notorious for this.
@@Dr.TJ_Eckleburg yeah that’s a very good point, I didn’t really consider that. I would still think however, with what I know about old projects like this, no one liked the cops. If anyone, spotter or not, saw a bunch of cops rolling up whether from a window or in a hallway would have made noise. Sometimes hot-shots feel untouchable
@Daniel Miller that’s why getting his brother was important
At that era, the projects in Harlem were 20% as scary as the Jungle in Vietnam. (in case you need to ask, Vietnam was much scarier, and 20% is alot.)
Frank Lucas was supposed to be untouchable, he put all of his competition out of business and could order an instant hit out on anybody that tried him. All the cops understood even if they took him away, blue magic or the drug business in general wasn’t going away and most of the cops were corrupt anyways. The cop in this scene was different and was determined to stop it
Probably a nod to the fact that given they controlled the supply of the best heroin in the country, they didnt have a lot of competition, that and the fact that Frank bribed all the cops and probably their moms too, just to be safe. That way, there wasnt really a lot of need to be extremely careful, given no one was moving in on them

He racked that shotgun like 30 times lol
"I got civilians in the target floor" No really your in an apartment building.
Talking about the Hallway dummy lol
I imagine it's protocol to observe and acknowledge such things in such an operation, however obvious. Besides, it would've been reasonable for them to assume Frank, given the sophistication of his business, would've bought out the entire floor so that there weren't residents present, let alone kids playing around---so seeing one there probably would've surprised them some.
Did the dude with a shotgun on the inside of the room literally did what my buddy did to himself one time. He was curious if he could shoot his shotgun thru a thin sheet metal door with wood in the middle. Instead of the pellets digging into the metal they bounced back with the force of a cos BB gun but the reason why he was hurt is because when the pellets hit the metal they picked up a lot of heat and when it flew back into my friends and in this scene the dudes face it burns more than stab
It’s like getting shot by a metal lit cigarettes
The character running from the cop is Huey Lucas played by Chiwetel Ejiofor not Frank Lucas played by Denzel Washington like the description says.
Underrated classic....
Funny how they all walking with their guns out through an open place outside that clearly must have ''spotters'' and other people seeing them and he still thinks they should use hand signals to communicate XD, real-life they couldn't just walk so casually into that.
Could assume they paid off at least a few people in other parts of the building to keep an eye out for them. Not too bright to only have security right in front of the door.
Well it was a drug den that had no issues in production for almost 4 years until this happened. When people get use to routine and the absence of conflict they become lazy and unreliable. Especially in an illegal drug den type of way.
