Thanks Rachel I've been waiting for you to do a species spotlight on these guys for ages, I keep a pair in my high tech tank and they do absolutely great and for such a generally timid species they're so confident and greet me at the top of my rimless tank every time I go near it. great vid as usual:)
Rachel love ur content u are amazing u r a inspiration to me 11 year old sister because u made ur way through a predominately male hobby and inspired her to not only diy her hair but to do nano species and for that we both appreciate u
Hi Rachel, Great video (as always :-) )! These little guys remind me on my Apistogramma Macmasteri - I got myself a pair some weeks ago and I totally fell in love with them. Wish you all the best - greetings from Austria, Harry
Grear video Racheal! Keep up the great work! I came to channwl from Joey's channel (The King of DIY) and I can see why he thinks your channel the best fish channel!! But honestly you deserve MUCH more subscribers!!
I've keeped trifasciata, bought a pair but it were two males, sold a male and bought a female... Once again, male But i loved to keep them, the interaction between them was amazing
I've been binging your channel to find the perfect species only tank (20 gallon long) and you've given me endless possibilities and the only solution is to get a rack of 20 longs so I can have everything I want. I've learned so much from you and Joey from diy. How many of these can I fit into a 20 long? Thank you
Hi there... suggestion - I would like you to tackle/video ( over a few weeks) how you go about removing black hair algae from an aquarium. It might be 30 seconds of footage over 30 days pieced together but it would be fantastic! It is a problem a lot of aquarists get but seldom know how to fix. Maybe have two small tanks side by side trialing two different methods of removal? Just a thought! Hope its getting warmer over there!
I have got them with nannostomus beckforti and black neons. But I consider to sell the black neons and expanding the beckforti. I also have ancistrus dolichopterus, corydoras pygmaeus and Ottocinclus Vittatus with them. Together with some neocaridina shrimps and african wood shrimps. And I have assassin snails too. Am I right that the black neons would not let any fry of them alive? Would love to have some fry of them.
Thank you for this!! I recently got a pair and they spawned!!!! I now have like 6 babies following their devoted mom. This was their first-ever spawn, is this normal for such a small number of fry?
Rachel hi, do a species spotlight on laetacara Dorsigera which I know you have, easily one of the best tempered dwarfs around... I keep mine with dwarf corys, shrimp and marginatus pencils.. So cool, and they have that adorable plump smiling face
Hey Rachael awesome fish! do you think they would go good in my 125 with rainbows and roseline sharks? And speaking of, you should do a video on roselines. I notice very little videos on these guys. Thanks!!
Hello Rachel, I really enjoyed the spotlight and I'm actually thinking about having an aquarium for a pair of these with lots of wood and leaf litter. I intend to spawn them so I don't know if I should keep them with other fishes. I was thinking about having around 10 neon tetras as dither fish and a few corydora habrosus but the tank is only 16G. Should I keep them with corydoras? any thought?
Thanks for the reply, I'll avoid corydoras in that tank then. Any idea on an interesting bottom dweller to add some movement near the substrate of this tank I'm setting?
Happy to see you do a species spotlight on one of my favorite fish. Kept these guys before and have gotten lots of fry out of them but always lost them as they got to the free-swimming stage. Would love to set these guys up again and try my hand at breeding them again. I see in this tank you have a couple males. How are they with each other? Many of the breeders I followed advised to never house males together as even with enough space, their fighting tends to get very physical and can result in death of the losing male. The best ratio I was told to have was 1 male to minimum 3 females, in minimum a 20 gallon long. I was told having multiple females with one male in a larger setup resulted in larger clutches of fry with more of them reaching the free swimming stage and so on. I really want to try this out as I only kept a 1:1 ratio and always lost my fry at the free swimming stage. Good luck with these little guys. They're one of my favorite fish. They have such cute little personalities.
Rachel, time for a quick question about cacatuoides? I had a pair that was almost breeding but the male died, female was fine, so I got another male and he also died. I'm sad but also confused, I do feed a lot of Repashy community plus en frozen artemia. Could it be that the males got bloat? It wasn't visible but they went to the bottom of the tank and wouldn't swim for a day or two and then die. Would feeding more flakes be a possible fix if I get another male? I don't want another male fatality.
I have recently got cokatoo dwarf chillids and one of the females has given birth what do I do plz help. I sent you a message on instagram as I was recommended to ask for your help plz can u reply
Thanks for another awsome species profile. Especially for it being an apisto profile. Got myself another beautiful south american fish lately, Poecilocharax weitzmani. I find it hard to find good information about them. So please make a species profile about them.
I love your specis vids, I dont know how you say the latin names. I just say its easy pet store name. Latin words like that are hard for me to even say it.
Rachel O'leary thanks for the reply. Love your channel regarding nano fishes. Currently im having 3ft / 50g planted tank. Inside having stock of neon tetra, rummy nose, cherry barb, otocinclus, siamese algae eater and yamato shrimp. Was thinking to adding in apistogramma, it it possible?
LOL !! 😄 I Keep mine with Corys, Golden Loaches and have small Ottcinculus' in there with them. Angels are human loving fish and crave interaction. Try some one day. Eww... that sounded like a meal. Sorry. 😄
Yup no probs. Still Got all 6 of them. Been there for months. They do need to be of a bigger size however, if introducing into a tank with larger Angels. My angels are fully grown. Thanx for all ur advice. Appreciate it all. (And yes... every last little fin-friend of my has a name.)
And sterbai corys I just got some yesterday I'm pretty sure I know everything about them but your input would be cool because I've never spent so much money on fish before it's weird I'm feeling so much responsibility for the $$ instead of fish this time around hahaha not that I don't care about the fish but money Changes things I don't know how joey does it with the $5000 arowana hahaha
thanks for doing a species profile. .... very few or any you tubers do that. takes a lot of work and is really informative. Appreciate it.
Thank you for the metric conversions, really appreciated.
Really nice including centimeters, much appreciated :)
I love how you spit out their complicated names so easily
Thanks Rachel I've been waiting for you to do a species spotlight on these guys for ages, I keep a pair in my high tech tank and they do absolutely great and for such a generally timid species they're so confident and greet me at the top of my rimless tank every time I go near it. great vid as usual:)

I love them you're right that fin is impressive
Beautiful fish! Informative video, trying the black water stuff myself.
Apistos are awesome! I haven’t kept them yet, but I’m sure I will one day.
Ooh I feel spoiled, a species spotlight and a video from Joey!
Love you channel, I learn so much, thank you! What kind of food is that stuck to the glass?
That looks amazing. Just like a piece of the Amazon been cut out and put in your tank
Fry parade? I REALLY hope you get video of that!
Would like to see a species spotlight on Apistogramma macmasteri. I have a pair and hope to get them to spawn this spring
Very good video 👍👍👍

Hi Rachel. Do you have any Opthalmoltilapia ventralis? Can you do a spotlight on those ?
Thank you for this!! I recently got a pair and they spawned!!!! I now have like 6 babies following their devoted mom. This was their first-ever spawn, is this normal for such a small number of fry?
Rachel hi, do a species spotlight on laetacara Dorsigera which I know you have, easily one of the best tempered dwarfs around... I keep mine with dwarf corys, shrimp and marginatus pencils.. So cool, and they have that adorable plump smiling face
I have been waiting until I actually raised fry, but so far, no dice. I may just do one anyway because they ARE incredible fish
Nice looking fish
Thanks for sharing 😊 of course because I love apistos 😉
Apistogramma Borelli are my most favorite dwarf - would love tips and hints on them in the future.
can do!
Could you do a species spotlight on firemouth cichlids please ? Love your channel !
Hey was wondering if you've kept flagfish. Something floridai lol I forgot the Latin sry. American flagfish was the common name.
Hey Rachael awesome fish! do you think they would go good in my 125 with rainbows and roseline sharks? And speaking of, you should do a video on roselines. I notice very little videos on these guys. Thanks!!
they are stunning i like them a lot
Gorgeous!
Can you do a species spotlight for ghostfish or dagger fish in general. Thank you for all of the knowledge you've provided to all of us.
Aww I just got a pair 2 weeks ago! I love them also got panduro and macmasteri gold :)
I actually found the tank that the cichlid was in to be very pretty. What size tank were they in?
+Lucy Is Very Weird 30 gallon long

i don'tt hink cories work out well with apistos generally
Thanks for the reply, I'll avoid corydoras in that tank then.
Any idea on an interesting bottom dweller to add some movement near the substrate of this tank I'm setting?
+miguel pedro apistos fry ;) the problem with bottom dwellers is when the apistos breed
Ok thank you very much for the advices, neon tetras and a.trifasciata it is! :)

its a decent sized tank (30g) with only 2m/1f so it seems to be fine.
Ah okay. If you decide to get more females in the future I'd definitely try out a harem setup. I'd love to hear how that ratio works for you.
On this species can a display tank house more than one male, or will they fight?
Rachel, time for a quick question about cacatuoides? I had a pair that was almost breeding but the male died, female was fine, so I got another male and he also died. Can you do a species Spotlight on Distichodus Nobli. I've never heard of this fish and my lfs had some
What fish food is that pellet pressed on the glass? I need this👍
You showing and educating us about these beautiful creatures are the reason I wanna go nano
Could you do nannacara anomala? similar fish in a way - but one i've been considering
How can you tell a female from a sneaker male? I have one dominant male and one i thought was a female, but now i'm not so sure.
I have recently got cokatoo dwarf chillids and one of the females has given birth what do I do plz help. I sent you a message on instagram as I was recommended to ask for your help plz can u reply

great fish!
Nice video
Wow thet are very beautiful will try to find some
OI! Maestro !
Hi Rachel.
You think they could live with poecilid livebearers ? What's the minimum tank size for this species ? I would keep maybe 2 females .
yes, but they would eat babies
I love your specis vids, I dont know how you say the latin names. I just say its easy pet store name. Latin words like that are hard for me to even say it.
How many could you keep in a 20 long?
Can you house a shrimp with this fish?
Hi Rachel, i'm new to apistogramma, just a question, can it be mix with nano fish like tetra or rasbora kind of fish?
+zoejehuty depends on the tank size and species of fish you want to combine-sometimes
Rachel O'leary thanks for the reply. Love your channel regarding nano fishes.
Currently im having 3ft / 50g planted tank. Inside having stock of neon tetra, rummy nose, cherry barb, otocinclus, siamese algae eater and yamato shrimp.
Was thinking to adding in apistogramma, it it possible?
absolutely
Rachel O'leary thanks rachel, appreciate it. So far no one really cover regarding apistogramma.
Thanks.
Will they do okay in a white sand with live rock environment? With no drift wood or plants
not really
Great video. I have a goby tank. Can you feature gobies in one of your sessions?
Michelle Burks she has done a few gobies in the species spotlight viseos and updates on the hillstream tank
Nicely informative. Notice you don't keep angels? Is there a reason for this?
+Joycie they eat all the other fish I love
LOL !! 😄 I Keep mine with Corys, Golden Loaches and have small Ottcinculus' in there with them. Angels are human loving fish and crave interaction. Try some one day. Eww... that sounded like a meal. Sorry. 😄
I have kept them in the past- be careful with them with otos!

Can you do a species spotlight on a flowerhorn cichlid 😁
And sterbai corys I just got some yesterday I'm pretty sure I know everything about them but your input would be cool because I've never spent so much money on fish before it's weird I'm feeling so much responsibility for the $$ instead of fish this time around hahaha not that I don't care about the fish but money Changes things I don't know how joey does it with the $5000 arowana hahaha
