@@AquariumShed I'm myself an A. bifasciata keeper/(perhaps) breeder. I love how these fish behave and how male and female softly interact. It's good for everyone mental's health !
Thank you for this video -- it's so high quality, informative, and entertaining. The sound quality is top notch, the music fits well in the background, and the footage is just breathtaking. Well done!
Thanks so much, really appreciate the feedback. I should probably do a few more species specific videos like this. It was really relaxing and enjoyable getting all the macro shots! 👍
I've never tried out a pair of apistogrammas yet and Im searching for the species I want to try first. I think you sold me on these, they look awesome! I like how the male and the female look so much different so it will hopefully be easier getting a pair.
Hiya - really pleased you liked the video. That's a really good point I hadn't thought about - you can sex these apistos particularly easy for sure. I had a pair of Inka until recently and I literally never knew whether I had two males, two females, or a pair because they would change their appearance so much. If you do go with Trifasciata I think you'll be rewarded. The males look amazing when they are fully coloured up. Not much different from the Electric Blue Acara colouration which seem to be really popular atm. Good luck!
great footage , mine just breeded first time succesful, same as your femal mine is very agressive when it comes to protect the fry ! it is so beautiful to watch her showing up behind the window and show me her fry ! as if she would like to tell me : look what i have LOOK LOOK ...i am so happy when i see her and u can clearly see they have a certsain character, they arent just fish !
More about 50 years ago I bought 4:33 m first Apistogramma in any species. Is anybody familiar with nomenclatura ? At first untill today I maintain the A. borelli (former A. reitzigi), later the A. agassizi and any others. Can anybody tell me, please, about the former A. kleei and A. pleurotaenia ? Now I'm an old, but my enjoy and interest for never gone! Fascinating Apistogramma at once, Apistogramma for ever !❤
Nice video... I also have a few apistogrammas in my discus tank, and although I know that I am very unlikely to get them to breed, I have created several burrows and refuges for them to at least try. And you are right that it is beautiful to see their behavior, they really are spectacular fish.
Great video and beautiful apistogramma, I just finished building a blackwater setup on my channel for my Apistogramma Steel Blue and I'm loving it. Your apistogramma are absolutely stunning
Thanks so much, really appreciate it. I've actually just moved these guys into my lava rock bridge scape that I entered into IAPLC. They are absolutely loving it. I do love a blackwater setup, did you see the one I made for the Nanochromis Transvestitus in my latest video? 👍
Great informative video - congratulations. I’ve been breeding various species of dwarf cichlid over many years! I’m 59 now and started keeping fish at 14. Ive kept all species of fish over the years but there’s no doubt, dwarfs are my personal favourite. I’m here in Caerphilly, South Wales and at present I’m breeding Apisto. Trifasciata, Apisto Macmasteri, Laetacara Dorsigera. Good luck with your breeding projects.
Hi Phil, lovely to hear from you. Dwarf Cichlids are my personal favourite too. So much character. I actually got a pair of Nanochromis Transvestus yesterday and am instantly fascinated by them. Keep an eye out for my new video this afternoon, I think you'll find the thumbnail quite amusing given that you keep Macmasteri! I'm just over the mountain in Cardiff btw! 👍
@@AquariumShed Blimey ! I wasn’t expecting you to be from Cardiff. I was born & bred in Cardiff and worked most of my life there. I’m not a big fan of African dwarfs. South American are my favourites. I plan on going through your other videos today. Good luck.
Aah that's awesome, hope you like them! This is the first time I've kept African Dwarfs since I was a teenager keeping Kribs, so I might come to the same conclusion as you! Haha. Apisto's are definitely my passion!
Nice video and good narration. I kept and bred this species, and many others, years ago before I moved abroad. Would like to keep them again. Any chance of some juveniles? I'm in West Ceredigion.
@majorbruster5916 Afraid not atm, they all went to the shop a few months back. Long term plan is to move your way tho. Any good clubs in your area? Where's the nearest decent LFS? Swansea? Or nearer?
I have these fish too and I love them so much :D You know the water parameters the fish breed and fry grows in? The female has been staying in the cave a long time I'm almost sure she has eggs there but I fear they won't be viable maybe because of pH as I've heard this can be a problem with other apistogramma species. My hardness should be around 50ppm
Great video!! Thank you for this! I just got a pair of Trifasciata. Any dither fish you have that don’t prey too much on the fry? Looking for something that could work up top :))
Deuxième question, où as tu trouvés tes apistos 😅
You inspired me to get a pair of my own, think mine are still quite young. May I ask what you have been feeding them? They so far don’t seem to interested in what I’m offering
Aah nice, really hope you are enjoying them. Such a lovely rewarding fish. I feed mine with Dennerle Colour Booster and they seem to love it. They also get a treat of frozen bloodworm about once a week! 👍
@@AquariumShed I’m really happy with them. Completely different from anything I’ve kept before. Find it fascinating just watching how they move and explore the tank. Thank you for the video and thank you for letting me know where I could get them. I’ll order this food for them today 😉 You should do an update video on this one so we can see how the fry are growing
No problem at all. Fry are doing well, now making up a larger hareem that are so far living harmoniously. Was a bit worried about the dynamics but so far so good!
Hiya. I'd say that's about the minimum requirement but they should be OK. Like with most dwarf cichlids, its more about the floor space than tank volume. So as long as they have around 50cm x 30cm to roam around, then a pair should be just fine. These guys will live happily with most Tetras and mid/upper level dither fish. Just avoid other dwarf cichlids and things that will encroach on their bottom level territory like Cory's etc. Hope that helps! 👍
Hiya. Thanks for watching, glad you like the tank. It's actually just filtered with a simple sponge filter hidden away in a custom built perspex box at the back which I surround in ceramic bio media. Nothing too fancy. No co2 in this tank, and I've never used Purigen. 👍
Beautiful video of one of the most amazing Apitogramma. Big thanks.
They truly are a stunning Apisto. Glad you enjoyed the video. My latest video about Fishkeeping and Mental Health is well worth a watch too! Cheers.

Nice fish, do you post fish?. Been looking for a pair of these for ages. I'm in UK too.
What PH and temperature do you keep them?
Unfortunately after my first batch of trifasciata fry have hatched, my male harrassed my female to death 😢
