My ex son in law bought a pink one for my daughter. The trigger was so stiff she couldn’t get through a magazine with her hand strength. She lost money but traded it in on a new M&P which she loves. She eventually dumped the son in law but kept the M&P.

It really is interesting how there are so many guns that use nearly the same parts as one another, yet the performance between them can be wildly different. From all the gun reviews I've watched, it seems like getting the magazine right is the most crucial for functioning smoothly. Consistent follower angle, strong spring, and firm sitting in the well.

Any mechanical item can have a problem. However, I own 2 CPX2 pistols. Both have had hundreds of rounds. The first one has more than a thousand rounds through it. Neither pistol has had any trouble at all. In the very beginning, the mags needed a bit of break in, but the pistols worked great. They both shoot steel case or brass, no trouble at all. Both have been great. I know these pistols will shoot when I pull the trigger.
One thing to understand, these guns are a blend of the old double action wheel guns and modern semi-auto guns.
These are hammer fired, double action. They have a long trigger pull, just like any S&W wheel gun. The pull is somewhat heavy, roughly 9 lbs,, just like a wheel gun.
The hammer is always down, but the firing pin is not in danger of striking the primer of a chambered round. Each time the trigger is pulled, the hammer stays in the forward position. Just like a wheel gun.
I like and trust my SCCY's. I have owned and daily carried my primary SCCY for roughly 10 years now. And I do shoot what I carry!
Bottom line, my guns have had zero trouble. Are there better guns out there, sure there. Great guns, with higher prices. But if you are living on a budget, these guns will get the job done.
    Don't be afraid of them.

I know this is just your opinion, so here's mine. I have 4 SCCY pistols including the CPX series in .380 and 9mm and a DVG series in 9mm. I've put hundreds and hundreds of rounds through all four of them, so I've got a fair amount of experience with them. I bought one CPX-2 used and the other three 1's, 2's, & 3's were all new. The used one was an old first generation and I had a problem with it not firing correctly. I talked with SCCY, they said send it to them and they'd take a look at it. Turned out it was a minor problem (mag related) but they took the time to completely rebuild the gun with all new 2nd gen internals and had it back to me within a week along with several new magazines. Again, that was a used gun I had bought off an individual and not a dealer. Their warranty is for the life of the gun regardless of ownership and that's what I call outstanding service. Since then, I've put hundreds of rounds through it without a single problem. So my opinion is that I really like them and trust them. And while I'm not a colored gun guy (all of mine are black or FDE), I actually like the colors being available.

I've had my CPX2 for around 8 years and it's been fine. When I first got it, it wouldn't cycle reliably so I contacted SCCY and they sent me two mags. Turns out SCCY had a whole bunch of bad magazines get out early on. With the two new mags it's been 100% reliable with a few hundred rounds down range.
Complaining about color options is ridiculous. Look at the market and almost every one of them has a multitude of color options. Try a video saying everyone should only own black pistols and rifles and see how that goes lol. What it seems like you're actually saying is you don't like colors marketed towards women.
The gun malfunctioned, you stop shooting and send it back to the manufacturer. Every manufacturer has lemons and there are thousands or hundreds of thousands of these in the wild running with no problems.
All that said, I wouldn't recommend them simply because there are now so much better guns in a similar price range. I also don't recommend them very often because shooting a DAO is a learned skill and I don't think most people are going to put the range time in to master it. I grew up shooting revolvers so it didn't bother me but it's a potential issue for some buyers. A striker fired or DA/SA is almost always a better choice for those uninitiated in the art of DA shooting. If $200 is your absolute max budget then yeah, maybe the CPX2 is probably the best choice because of the limited number of guns in this category but I would highly recommend saving $200 more and getting something like a Canik Mete MC9.

    • @DamnManSam

The reason he complained about the colors is that the gun is marketed towards female carriers. 99 percent of them, will likely never even test the gun out on the range before carrying it.

I bought a CPX-2 Seven years ago....I took it to my American Legion outdoor Firing range and gun fired quite well....Firing 100 rounds of round nosed target Ammo, and then a full Mag of the Critical Defense rounds that I normally carry [I also have a Ruger LC9s that I carry] with no problems. The 3rd time I took the CPX-2 to same range, firing same target rounds, and Gun was not ejecting/chambering well after firing 3 mags full....No delayed firing but it jammed a number of times....I found that the main spring broke....I contacted SCCY and told them about it and they sent me a new spring....This spring is a heavier spring of Stainless steel. Since then I have had gun to the range several times firing 100's of rounds including testing a mag of Critical Defense here and there and not a single problem. I supposed the Spring is a newer generation part....Weapon works fine. SCCY guns are cheaper...but that does not mean they are made cheaper....in fact I am impressed by similar reliability as my Ruger, and the SCCY customer service people were great.

I have a story about this specific firearm.
Growing up my family taught us how to use firearms for hunting. My father and I would go deer, turkey, squirrel hunting every year when we could. Mainly we used shotguns, i was never really accustomed to handguns or rifles except for something like the Heritage 22LR revolvers. Anyways, being an adult now, i've recently decided to buy a gun, learn to use it correctly and safely, and take a concealed carry class and use the firearm i bought for the concealed carry class. I live in a constitutional carry state, and i could've just bought the gun and carried it on me, but i decided it was in my best interest to at least have the basics firearm handling and safety courses that the CCW class gives you before i carry something with me that could alter my life and the life of others. So, i went to a Rural King in my area, went to the firearms section, and was just browsing to see if anything caught my eye. As i was browsing, the man behind the counter asked me if i was looking for anything in particular. I said, i'm looking for my first carry gun, something i can take my concealed carry class with, and something that would be reliable god forbid i ever encounter a situation where i would need to use it. He pulls out this gun. The SCCY CPX-2, told me it was the best beginner firearm, would be a perfect concealed carry gun, and that it was reasonably priced too. I took his word for it. I bought two boxes of 9mm ammo, took my gun and ammo, and drove home. I was extremely excited about my first ever handgun purchase, and couldn't wait to go to a range to test the firearm. The next day, i went to the range with the firearm, loaded up both magazines, and within the VERY FIRST SHOT i felt that maybe i made a huge mistake. The biggest issue for me was the trigger pull, the amount of force needed to pull the trigger was just unbelievable. Granted, it is a DAO pistol, but damn, it just felt horrible shooting that first round. I fired off the rest of the magazine and noticed that no matter how accurate i tried to be, keeping the gun still as possible, focusing with all my might, i couldn't get a good grouping at all. The trigger reset is also a HUGE CON. Just everything about this gun, the way it felt in my hands, the recoil, and the trigger pull along with the trigger reset, i just felt i made a huge mistake and maybe i shouldn't have even decided to get a gun at all. Another huge issue i kept having was the gun would jam. Maybe it was the ammo i was using i'm not sure, but it was consistently nosediving rounds while chambering. I put the gun up in my safe after that day and never haven't touched in since. A few months went by, and i did a little more research on different brands, different firearms, and i came across CANIK. I quickly figured out that the saying is true " You get what you pay for". I immediately bought a Canik Mete SFX. Once that firearm arrived, i noticed a huge difference between the quality of the two firearms. I realized that just because something is affordable, and is marketed to new gun owners, doesn't mean that it is going to be a good or reliable firearm. I took my newly bought canik to the range and was shooting tight groupings at 25 yards almost immediately. It resparked my interest in the gun world, and i decided that was going to be the firearm i use to take my CCW. Once i got comfortable with the canik after a few range trips, i scheduled my CCW range time, passed it with flying colors and was even given some good words about my accuracy while using the weapon. I hope people that people who read this that are looking to buy their first gun will read this and hopefully STAY AWAY from ANY of the firearms SCCY make. Don't listen to the gun guy behind the counter. Don't buy it just because it's cheap and you need a firearm quickly. Do some research, there are much better options out there. I recently acquired a Taurus G3c that is right around the same price range as the SCCY CPX-2 and i gotta say that it would be the first gun i would recommend to a person who is new to guns and wants to buy their first one. The quality between Taurus and SCCY is just incredible. If SCCY had any sense, or cared about the gun community at all, they would stop all production of their firearms. They are dangerous, there are multiple videos out there of the CPX-2 having MAJOR MALFUNCTIONS. Luckily i stopped using mine before i had something major happen with it. Sorry about the rant, i just felt this information needed to be said, and hopefully someone who is looking into owning their first firearm will read this and do their own research before wasting their money on this paper weight.

So, you only tried one kind of ammo, and HOW many magazines of it? Nose-diving sounds like Winchester White Box FMJ bulk box ammo from a MegaMart store: Cheap, weak, and over-long in the nose from that FMJ bullet profile dragging on the magazine. Did you clean and lube the pistol before you first shot it? You admit that it is double-action-only; do you admit that it WILL IMPROVE with more shooting? I have a two year old CPX2 and from the very beginning I had a long, smooth, and not-heavy trigger pull---just like a gun without a manual safety should be! Just like a double-action revolver. And you never called SCCY for service, before you condemn the entire brand and gun model? You are just like this lame UA-cam host!................................elsullo

So first the DAO semi-auto system was developed when law enforcement was transitioning from revolves to semi-autos, a lot and I mean a lot of police officers could not get the hang of double and after the first shot single action trigger as in most semi-autos, the DAO semi-auto trigger was developed with idea of giving a consistent trigger pull to a semi-auto like a revolver. So that being said it does take some getting used to the DAO semi-auto, once I got comfortable with the DAO semi-auto trigger I consistently able at 50 ft to hit double taps and failure drills consistently with no issues. Now to the SCCY, I did notice when I initially brought my SCCY 9 mm home and inspected it that it had a lot of manufacturing debris throughout the firearm, I did give my gun a very thorough cleaning including taking the magazines apart giving them a thorough cleaning, I also used CLP and gave my gun a light Lube, at the range my SCCY function fine I had no issues whatsoever, although I did not shoot a lot of rounds through it 75 rounds on the first range trip maybe 100 rounds on the second trip, a few of my friends wanted to try it so it had another 50 to 70 rounds put through it, the SCCY is a light gun which does not make it the most comfortable gun to shoot. After the three range trips I gave the a thorough cleaning, have not shot it since the cleaning, so I am not sure what is up with gun? Most of my friends make fun of my Taurus firearms too, but I never had any issues with Taurus firearms and several of them I have shot 0:30 lot and mostly with Wolf & Tula ammunition.
In the SCCY 9mm I used 115 fmj, I did try few 115 hp, again with no issues?
The SCCY is a cheap gun I use it outdoors camping and fishing, I won't be to upset I lose it wading in a creek....

Personally I take my guns apart and clean them pretty much every time I shoot them and I primarily use federal ammunition brass casings. I’ve carried all the big name guns in my military and law enforcement careers and purchased this gun as a tackle box/center console gun, once I was satisfied they were reliable for defense. The reason, if used it will get confiscated to Police evidence and if I don’t get it back I’m out 200-250 bucks as opposed to 450-750 for most “big” name guns. Had these been unreliable at all, I would’ve boxed them up and sold them as unreliable for self defense target practice only guns and moved on to something else in the under 300 dollar price point. I’ve been shooting since I was about 7 and carrying since I was 18 and I know you don’t have to go broke to get a decent carry gun. Just my opinion. Still enjoy your review and advise.

I did have a few of the standard feed and trigger issues but no hang fire. However, i found with a break-in period of around 100 rounds, good cleaning, and a few tweak's they all ran great. I can truly say It's the luck of the draw with this company. if you don't like to work on your guns, don't get a SCCY.

A gun problem can cause hang fires? More than once? Impressive.
It takes a very unfortunate firing pin pressure + ammo combination to cause one - misfires are a LOT more likely.
But good reminder that they do happen. Always be careful about potential hang fires.
Practically, pretty sure the hang fires would go away with a different brand of ammo - and either become OK or misfires.

@tedkennedy2897 I'm sure you'll have the typical response to this, however I purchased a new CPX-2 gen 3 for $149. Took it home, polished the feed ramp, the slide rails, and the magazine feed lips as well as the mag-follower skirt. Exercised the mag-springs, and racked the slide about 100 times! Only then did I take it out shooting. I've never had a malfunction from that pistol. I know you'll say u shouldn't have to do that with a new gun! And you're correct! Not with a $500 + gun, but w/some value priced(not junk)guns...with a slight amount of attention, they can be diamonds in the rough!

My range had so many Sccy malfunctons to include going off when not intended, You just never know what it may or may not do. The owners ended up just banned Sccy firearms from the facility. Too much liability. YOU may have a Sccy that runs fine, but my expierence with several hundred has just been scary.

I bought a CPX-1 for my wife. We went to the range, and she hated it. Sold it and never looked back. These pistols have an awful trigger. Since then, I’ve encountered guys at the range that had downright dangerous SCCY pistols. One wouldn’t fire with a trigger pull, but fired on reset/ after smacking the slide. I told him to unload it and send it back immediately.

SCCY has been making ONLY THIS PISTOL for over twenty years! Blackwater Security issued it to all of their mercenaries in Afghanistan! It has two versions: one with a manual safety and one without. In early years they subbed-out magazine building and were often plagued by the magazine springs being installed BACKWARD; now they make their own magazines. Owners cleaning their mags did the same mistakes. They have sold millions of them, and constantly worked the bugs out. Only recently have they released a .380 version and a striker fired version. It is odd, but all over YUUTOOB over the years when SCCY pistols are reviewed there are negative commentators using the SAME LANGUAGE, almost like a script, making me wonder if they are paid by large gun makers to reduce their competition?.............................elsullo
