every time i see team player, i think of the employee that is getting scolded for leaving on time while everyone else works overtime because he's not a "team player"
*THIS* Exactly how I felt & how it was when I went to corporation right outta university. This year, I told them to fuck off and will leave in few weeks

My company brought on a new CEO a few months back. One of the first things he did was try to replace the term "associates" with a more "fun" "family" kind of term. They put out a poll with a few options, and by an OVERWHELMING MAJORITY, we voted to remain associates. I don't need a company to try to replace my family. I need a company that will pay me enough to be able to support and spend time with MY family.

"We're a family" Interesting how whenever there is a murder, the family is ALWAYS questioned first because statistically, the murder is more likely committed by a family member.
There will be significant brain drain over time for companies that allow 0 remote work, even cults that try to brainwash people like Ramsey's. Eventually people will get tired of that commute, and realize they can switch jobs and make the same or even more money without it...
Perhaps it's because I live in Europe but I find the idea of multiple income streams so depressing... Having to monetise hobbies, working nights and weekends, just for an ounce of security.
I was a freelance writer and thus a independent contractor all my life so I look at corporate life and working for businesses as an outsider. From what I see , employee / employer dealings are always based on uneven power differentials and manipulation. Its elementary psychology at work. The pragmatic employee simply views a job as a paycheck and yearly income. Any employee in any company is nothing more than a chess piece. The question is are you going to wind up a pawn sacrifice?
I wanted to find purpose for my job, but learned how to let that go the hard way. Now, I just clock. Do what I’m assigned to do. Help others when I feel like it. Clock out and call it a day. Best eye opening experience ever. It’s not for everyone as the same as freelancing isn’t for everyone either. Do what makes the best version of yourself.
This is so tempting to send to everyone I used to work with at a big wholesale warehouse with membership *cough, cough*. It's all just nice words and handshakes, then u find urself working alone for 5 hours in a fridge that gets destroyed every day. (There used to be 5 people doing it). I’m happy that I finally landed a non-temp or intern role related to my college education last June, 2021 with a company that I could potentially have a career with. Used to be a local company when about a decade ago it was acquired by a larger competitor which is in turn owned by a foreign hedge fund company. No “we’re a family BS” but seems to have a good culture, strongly values safety. I’m treated better than when I worked for their direct competition, in a public sector position, or for small businesses. I’ve worked for family and that’s the main reason I don’t want to run my own business; owners and family need to work harder than employees.

Loved this video. Are used to be a handyman working for a bunch of property owners and one of them asked me if I wanted to be a millionaire like them. I said yes. Then I found myself over the next few years compromising my integrity on a regular basis trying to fit into their club. I eventually turned my position into a fully licensed general contractor and had my own business with employees. I thoroughly disliked being that person having to meet the needs of the owners who wanted to spend minimum wage for skilled labor and finding good skilled labor and wanting to pay them what I knew they were worth. It was all so horrible. After years of working for one of the owners and even considering him a friend, I bought a house from him on contract. He overcharged me on the house, gave me a super high interest rate, and then put a 15% pre-payment penalty on the purchase so that I could never refinance or sell the house without losing money. That was a large error on your part, don't care if I get hounded for this I would never take advantage of someone but I am also not so stupid as to sign a 15% pre-payment penalty contract, you signed that and it is your responsibility that you made a poor investment.
We must be on the same wave length today. I just did a video this morning on Dave Ramsey claiming he’s not a bad christian for raising rents and displacing families because the market forced him to raise rates. Meanwhile he under pays all his employees at market rate.
If he owns those properties on fixed rate mortgages, there's literally no reason to ever raise the tenants rents other than maybe small 1-2% annual raises to keep up with property taxes and/or increased maintenance costs as the property ages. Plenty of successful landlords rarely raise rents if they have a great tenant that treats the property like their own. A good tenant is more valuable that getting 10% more rent from someone new who you aren't certain will treat the property as well...
@@Glock20AK That person was referencing the teachings of Jesus, whom Dave Ramsey claims to be a follower of. Jesus said to the rich that they should sell all their possessions and give the money to the poor. Your statement is irrelevant.
Carrying a firearm isn't a sign of being fearful. The need for a firearm does occur. Not frequently, and not to everybody, but it does occur. Carrying a spare tire doesn't mean you are 'afraid' of getting a flat, it means you are prepared if you do get a flat. The truly fearful person is the one who sees a law-abiding citizen carrying a firearm and assumes the worst-case scenario is bound to happen any second, resulting in them calling the police.
Ramsey is a cult leader. Last weekend I watched one of his shows where he literally called gold buyers idiots. I wrote a comment about buying 11 ozs of gold for $350 each around the year 2000, and sold them for $1600 each in 2018. I more than quadrupled my money with almost zero risk, and I bought property with it. But because I contradicted his statements of only idiots buy gold, his employees immediately removed the comment. I then reposted it 5 more times and it was removed again within 30 seconds each time. Then I got a strike on UA-cam for violating their TOU on my channel, where I don’t even have any videos. What a bunch of losers. I blocked the Ramsey show after that.
I will always remember the clip of dave telling people who invest in bitcoin are stupid. Bitcoin was sitting at around $550 bucks at the time. LOL Never listen to that man's crappy advice.

In my opinion, Dave Ramsey teaches basic common sense to people who for some reason need to hear the obvious over and over and over. I watched two or three of his video shows and I had essentially seen them all. The amusing part is that he often seems to have some sidekick who's primary job is to fill what otherwise would be awkward silence with UmHmmm...UhHuh...UmHmmm...
The show is entertaining just hearing about the ridiculous messes people get themselves into. He helps people get themselves under control which is a good thing. How he runs his business does seem a little culty.
Before COVID he did the show alone most of the time. It was better back then actually. Highly entertaining to hear people with more money than brains cry to him like toddlers.
I was first introduced to Dave Ramsey my sophomore year in high school. Our forced to us basically listen to him by making notes worth lots of points. Best thing that happened to me as a teenager and shaped my perspective on debt and money into adulthood
Dave Ramsay's advice is ok if you want to learn how to budget or manage your money. The only issue I have with him is that a majority of his callers make six figures. When the meduim household income in the United States is 67k. Thats two incomes. The 9 to 5 job system is designed for you to earn 2.5 to 3k a month. Unless you have a very specialized skill e.g. software engineer, doctor. You stuck on this wage for life. Hope this helps.
You should see how many people have no money skills. Making a lot of money says absolutely nothing about one's money management skills. When I worked at a tech place in Silicon Valley I knew a Corporate VP level guy who literally lived paycheck to paycheck and would be a mess without it. Financial smarts and paychecks are not always related, especially when folks have a tendency to just spend whatever comes and then some...
Holy shit the side by side is insane. First time I watched Ramsey I felt like the others in comment section were watching a different video than I was. I thought this guy talked like he really hasn't worked in years...

I used to work at Zander insurance. The first thing you see on their website is Dave Ramsey's face and they were awful lol. Everything they do is about keeping Dave Ramsey happy its definitely cult like. Anyway they fired me for "attendance" (being hospitalized) lol.
@Vercusgames Yes I am doing great. Thank you! At the time I was devastated to be released from the hospital and see that I was fired by email (told not to come back on Monday) but it worked out. I've been at a really good employer the past three years and they're not perfect but they have taken pretty good care of me when I needed time off. Never made a federal case out of it. Being dismissed from Zander was a blessing in disguise. That company is a mess hiding behind Dave Ramsey's endorsement. They literally tell you nothing matters except retaining that endorsement.
I have decided to live by this philosophy for the past few years. "Build your own dreams, or someone will hire you to build theirs" You come first, always. Your time=money. No pay, no work. Dave's teachings and approach to life certainly can be cult like. I went through his financial freedom course and was dogmatic in staying debt free and trying to get through college without any loans but I kept postponing jumping into being full time in school all because I had this idealism that I'm a bad person or it's an evil to take on student loans. After many years of being miserable I had to reexamine my beliefs and changed my mindset to view financing my education as an investment in myself and that investing in myself is the best investment I can make. I just had to make sure I'm going into a career where it makes sense to borrow the amount of money I will need. Once i figured it out I jumped right in and the water is fine!
I read Dave Ramsey‘s book “Total Money Makeover” (my mom gave it to me) and his advice was literally to pay off all your credit cars debt AND close all the accounts so that you don’t buy anything on credit and go into debt. He said your credit score isn’t important because “it’s a measure of your debt.” I cannot make this stuff up he is advising people to tank their own credit score. Sounds very cult-like- he wants people dependent on him.
I guess he meant people should learn to live on their own means or even below. For someone who plans to never borrow money, credit score is not an issue.
I mean clearly the credit card companies bought all their nice fancy buildings, furniture, and pay all those high dollar salaries by being charitable. Not spending hundreds of millions of dollars studying human spending habits and trends to push a financial product.
Dave is targeting a specific group of people: those who have no self control and max out their credit cards. For them his advice is valid, because these guys cannot be trusted with credit. If you don’t have credit problems, you don’t seek out Dave’s advice.
@@SteelHex Here's the problem with that... His advice doesn't just get absorbed by those seeking it. There are middle and high schools teaching Dave's money philosophies. I've actually had to reverse educate my own child on what credit is and how it works, because his middle school uses Dave's materials to teach kids about money management.
Are you sure about that? Seems odd that's more of a common sense thing. He gives basic advice that keeps people afloat, but never rise above. Good luck spending every extra dollar of paycheck for 800 years to pay off that house, while the stock market 5x....
Here’s one that my boss used to say and still says: “I don’t give you a raise, you give yourself a raise”, implying that the only reason you don’t get a raise is because you’re not working hard enough. Or another good one, “ I don’t fire you, you fire yourself”. This from the guy who exploited the fuck out of his truck driver and made him do a lot of work that was way outside of his driving duties, while treating him like crap and ordering him around as if that’s warranted simply because he pays the guy (way under market value for a CLD driver). Eventually his driver left because he was getting paid a garbage salary with ZERO benefits and was being worked like a dog. Now this is a multi million dollar company mind you, at least $5-6 million a year in revenue. When his driver has had enough and was leaving all of a sudden this guy was ready to increase his salary by $400 a week to $1,500/week in total. Most of his employees left his company, and he acts as if all those people are the problem and became greedy. When the pandemic started in March of 2020 this guy let me go saying that we have no work. I had to go on unemployment for a little bit until finding seasonal tax work, and I was making slightly more in unemployment than I was working for this asshole. Later I heard that he apparently said I was greedy for going on unemployment when enhanced unemployment benefits were being given, despite him laying me off himself. He still believes that I left on my own just to collect unemployment. This guy is so manipulative and constantly talks about how because he gives a few holidays off we should be ready to dedicate our time to his company whenever it’s needed. He brags about not bothering us on the weekends, as if he deserves praise for that. It’s just important to be able to recognize manipulative language that scumbag bosses try to use on you in order to make you believe that you’re very lucky to have a job, and that you’re being paid way above your worth. I was blind to this before, but slowly I’m starting to open my eyes to this disgusting treatment of workers in America. As soon as I find another job I’m out of here, because this guy will never change and will continue on believing that he’s a really good employer and that everyone else is the problem.

This is the problem with having people so focused on entrepreneurship is that it is far too easy to disguise the buzzwords as a value proposition and feed it to the staff as they are "part owners" of the company. People new to the work world see the buzzwords and agree, hooking them in. What they don't see is the high turnover and the lack of values the place is hiding. Why is the employees not making the same money as the CEO grounds to put down the "share of the profits" point? If you are working at any decent project based company, you are getting bonuses when projects succeed.
@@JoshuaFluke1 Yes its true, but I am saying there is plenty of incentive to ensure a projects success if the company is decent. I am not saying this makes the company family or to treat it as your own, but if a good company stays true to their "share of the profits" pillar, then you can easily make 50%-100% more off bonuses and stock options. For employees that have no interest in the burden of entrepreneurship or leadership and just want to come in, do a good job, and get out, this is a great thing to look for in a company.
Ya but projects are always behind and delivered late. And it’s probably not your fault, but bad scheduling on the part of management. So you get the shaft anyway.
And not all companies give bonuses. That's great you seem to but your average job has zero stock options and zero bonus. @@dogelife7901 I'm not sure what the point of your comment is. The context of this video is a list of "red flags" from companies. I am arguing against "share of the profits" being a red flag. I am arguing it is a good thing to look for in a company, provided that you do your due diligence to see if they stay true to their advertised value. As far as "not all companies" giving bonuses, its irrelevant because we are not talking about universal truths, but rather values that individual companies may or may not have. As far as higher ups needing to justify their salaries, they really dont. They make more because they have ownership or are leadership. Just like everyone else, CEOs get their salaries based on their competitive advantage. The more replaceable you are, the less you will make and that applies to for-hire CEOs and everyone below them. The world is not fair and nepotism is rampant, but its also ridiculous to say that the majority can be leaders. Most people dont care or dont want that responsibility and that creates scarcity, which drives up value. If most people wanted to be entrepreneurial, it would be much easier for people to unite to create employee run businesses where the highest paid person doesnt make more than 5x the lowest.

I used to like dave Ramsey just because i thought it was interesting hearing the debt stories until i heard a guy asking him if he should purchase a house as an investment property and spoke on how he has construction experience and could keep cost low and could get a good loan with low rates which really sounded like a pretty good investment and he tried to talk him out of it because he would be getting a loan to get started. Like bro people don't just have hundreds of thousands of dollars just laying around 😂. I don't hate him I just realized he gives basic advice of all debt is bad, live on beans and rice and deliver pizzas on top of your 40 hours of work a week to get ahead. I'd like that advice a little more if he could just help tailor it to a specific person or gave the more general rules that can apply to everyone like you want your housing to be 35% or less of your income
Debt is bad Jaycee. 99% of foreclosed homes all have 1 thing in common, debt. that could not be serviced in a timely manner. Never heard of anyone filing bankruptcy using Dave"s advice
@@alinatamashevich3354 listening Dave's advice does work to an extent but i mean life happens and from what i remember the number 1 reason or 2 for bankruptcy was medical expenses. So that's just life hitting you. But no his advice works well for people who over spend and it's very good way of avoiding unnecessary risks, but if you lived by Dave's rules to a T you would miss out on opportunities to better yourself like buying a triplex home and renting out 2 units and having that pay for your mortgage and properties taxes while you live free of charge and work on something else while gaining equity and raising your net worth.
@@jayceewilliams5250 Dave has never said not to buy real estate, in fact he promotes using real estate to gain wealth. What does one do when these awesome renters quit paying rent cause the government tells them they can. Who pays the bills then?
I'm not saying I wouldn't prefer a different system, but we're in a sort of Nash equilibrium and a situation where people's necessary values cause what you think are unnecessary as a byproduct. Complaining also doesn't usually do much, and there is a counterintuitive phenomenon where the people who complain more, who are more neurotic, conformist, etc, are causing workplace toxicity both directly and through incentive structures. While people who remain happy while suffering complain less, but having more of them would make a better system. Companies write what people want to hear, though it can usually be said that people's values are informed by the elite rather than from the bottom up. Even if information were enough to get people to see the light that companies are basically corrupt, not doing what they say they are, changing people's minds would be driven by elite actors not the average worker. It's also not clear what basis most people, who are atheist materialists, would have to criticize his services. It is clearly satisfying people's values, otherwise they would not be buying the service. It's similar to education: even if it doesn't do any of the things it is supposed to, people clearly value having it more than not. On the righteous living bit, having pre-defined rules can be helpful, but ultimately all law is arbitrary. No matter how broad and explicit the guideline, interpretation is what matters
If your boss says "I can't do that for you because it's too expensive " push back. Ask loudly "How can I help reduce expenses? How can I help increase revenue? If I help the company be more profitable, than can I have what I want?"
Your boss is selflessly committed to keeping employed the luxury mansion and yacht builders, and the Lamborghini makers, no matter how hard or long hours you must work.
I think that this is deeper than just the “boomer” mentality. I grew up in a strict fundamentalist Christian cult, and by that I mean a real, righteous, POS, cult. We had a church. We had a school. Our church was run this way with these “values”; our school was run this way with the same “wholesome family values”, which then lead into your own family dynamic, but that’s another story. This is garbage all the way around, but especially for “Corporate”, because it leads to abuse, the likes of which you’ve never seen. I’m being polite. The things I could share. Love you’re work, you’re doing a great thing here.
I retired as a civil servant, so not from a private enterprise, but the same principle applies: we're a TEAM or a FAMILY but when it comes time for raises, administration always got huge raises, no layoffs when there were budget cuts, and a better pension, etc. And a lot of my colleagues BELIEVED the 'we're family' or 'we're all in this together' crap. Management/employers got where they are and stay where they are--in charge--by looking out for #1.
Are there companies that take advantage of their employees? Yes of course! But these vaules (most of them atleast) are excellent vaules to have, what should we expect for them to say the complete opposite of what they've expressed? It's obvious when you come across people who've never run a business or managed a large group of people before.
Yes you do control the profits in a small way. Every time you steal office supplies or office machines and force the company to buy replacements, you have directly lowered profits.
I alway appreciate a different opinion and I understand why Dave appears to be extreme but if you are a believer and you study the Bible these are just basic principles. No college education and had $90,000 in debt and now have no consumer debt live off my wife’s income and give, save and invest off my other income. All because I followed Dave’s baby steps. So confidence and financial peace are going to sound like arrogance and being cocky at times.
Most people's problem is not making enough money. The callers Dave Ramsey picks for his show are people that have terrible spending habits they learned from being spoiled as kids.
I was with you until the last part, that seems like something you just made up on the spot, but who knows. I think people of all types of backgrounds can be bad with money, even ones that are college educated.
Yeah honestly the main issue is that financial education is NOT taught at a young age. A lot of people are bad with money cuz they simply never learned it.

My interpretation of dream team is a group of people that has the same philosophy and the same vision for the future. If you all follow the core ideas of the corporate culture, then all of you are living inside the same dream. "We are all trapped in the same delusion together and we like it that way" is the cynical, nasty way to express this idea.
I noticed that too. Most of his callers are high income earners who can't balance a checkbook. Pretty pathetic! I. Dave also says millionaires give the most to charity. That's BS! Statically the middle class and poor give the most.

The truly fearful person is the one who sees a law-abiding citizen carrying a firearm and assumes the worst-case scenario is bound to happen any second, resulting in them calling the police.

Sounds very cult-like- he wants people dependent on him.
I guess he meant people should learn to live on their own means or even below. For someone who plans to never borrow money, credit score is not an issue.
He thinks you can’t use a credit card strategically . He thinks everyone is bad with money. But then again didn’t he go broke and then get famous?
Did you know that Dave Ramsey doesn't go aganist MLMs? That man is a joke. Good advice though for beginner stuff.

Imagine Josh being your boss. "Do whatever the hell you want! Just give me the output on this date."
I would work so damn hard for that man lol
I have asked many times, "Tell me what you want" and I never get a good response...just corporate slogan drivel. It's frustrating. The reality is that they usually want more, more, more, for less, less, less. If they don't clearly define goals, you can't clearly define victory, and they win.
@@jamesmoore1803 now that you mention this, I remembered being escalated to higher management and HR because the new team leader was a b!tch complaining that I don't work (when in fact she wasn't doing anything and some of the level 1's weren't working at all). So I listed all the tasks and things that I do and ask them to define exactly what I am required to do and how to do it. No replies but I got promoted.
I lean more to when you see these crop up more in a company statement, the more turnover there usually is and they need it as the bait to get a new worker hooked.
turnover is better than constructive dismissal

Manipulation *is* done covertly. That is the crucial part of manipulation.
Funny when employers tell you to work like you're self-employed or like an entrepreneur.
How do you do that when you can't say "No" to anything.
You have to learn how to say "NO" politely/with diplomacy based on what your job description is on the contract... otherwise they'll start asking you to do stuff that aren't even remotely close to your position (a.k.a. doing other people's job which nowadays is called "delegating" lol )

We will impose our will on the marketplace is just a BOLD statement of the power of persuasive salesmanship.
"The marketplace" is not a machine or an amorphous blob. It is a collection of human minds. Humans can be persuaded one at a time or in groups by sales tactics.
I am so thankful I found Suzy Orman first. I watched some of his stuff at the same time as Suzy's and he immediately put me off. I really hope that in this country we can make financial education in schools the norm so that we can cut the future Dave Ramsey's out of our lives.
I've always loved her especially because she addressed specific issues with women and money that the average Financial advisor personality wouldn't really understand because most of them are men.

One great example of how being selfish makes you more valuable is making sure you are the ONLY one trained to do a specific task. The company might push you to train others to do a job however that only makes you replaceable. I know a guy that didn't train a single person to do his job and guess what when it came time to layoffs they had to keep him. A true team player would have bent over backwards to train others.
Why is the employees not making the same money as the CEO grounds to put down the "share of the profits" point? If you are working at any decent project based company, you are getting bonuses when projects succeed.
Because you don't lose 'together'. Normally only the employees do. CEO still keep his job.
My company does give one but it is literally unrelated to anything the employee personally does and is a company wide bone that is thrown so the CEO and high ups can justify making 100x the average salary.

Corporate is now using military style torture and calling it a training for job. I almost threw up.
