@@Triscraft when I looked at apartments to rent, I visited a 2 bedroom apartment for 1'700$. The building was a concrete "bunker" where the cellar was unusable due to mold. The toilets and kitchen were renovated, however the building itself was in a bad shape. Then a grandma came by on her bike. She told me she lived there 15 years ago and she paid 600$ a month. Basically what happened was that all around new modern buildings were built. They weren't allowed to tear down the building I visited because it was protected. So they just raised the price to match with the new buildings.
Exactly this. In the last 2 decades the price of living has multiplied, groceries cost many times more now, taxes and rents keep increasing, cost of energy and fuel is thru the roof, THE ONLY THING that does not rise with all the costs is our wages.

in the past automation created new opportunities, because it made living cheaper and opened new markets for people to apply themselves. but that trend stopped, now automation not just doesn't generate a net positive of new jobs, but also reduce job availability in some cases.
It's not even that. I want a job, but contract jobs often do not even last a month and they lay you off, but over here you can't return to unemployment for a few months once you picked up any job. Unemployment provides healthcare, and healthcare provides me with affordable meds for asthma.

I'm a guy in STEM research, and I agree with Asmon. I hear the phrase "We need more women in STEM" all the time, despite over half graduate school enrollments being women. Most labor jobs were both, actually. What used to take nearly 2,000 Americans to build now takes less than 300 Mexicans to build, and they produce 20% more of them in the same time. This makes sense, when you think about it. While you're already incurring the expense to move a whole factory across the world, why the hell wouldn't you spend just a little more and replace the workforce with machines that require neither vacations nor health insurance? As long as you're going to have downtime in production, you might as well make the most of it. Still, it's usually both. The idea that the vast majority of job loss is the fault of immigrants or outsourcing is a political talking point with zero basis in data. And if you want to place blame where it REALLY belongs, the correct target if your ire would be Wall Street. Companies that aren't publicly traded almost never engage in this kind of activity. If they don't need to juice quarterly profits every quarter, they don't do crap like this. The day the NYSE is closed down for good the entire world will improve, if only marginally.
@@austinm5630 Outsourcing and immigration is certainly the reason for the suppression of wages, how could you argue otherwise? If we didn't import labor, CPI would be over 100% the last four years

When all that is unachievable for different reasons incentives are gone. So the conclusion some get is, why even try? if I can scrape by living with my parents or doing occasional work.
That was all an illusion anyway. It’s not real happiness. Most men have realized when all their needs are satisfied, and after they pursue their wants, there is no reason to work more. I make enough to pay my bills 6 months in advance, invest 30% of my money, and enjoy my hobbies. There is no need to do more. I’m doing fine.
well if your parents are willing to pay all the bills and you can just live in their house until retirement sure, but most parents are not going to agree to this unless you pay your share (which means you need money, which means you need job)
Think of it in the gaming term "breakpoint". If a two-handed sword does 40 damage, it needs 2 hits to take out an enemy with 50 HP. You need +25% to get to 50 damage, so anything less than that is effectively wasted effort. This is what's happening to young(ish) people's earnings. They have no reason to work harder if it doesn't result in e.g. buying a house. If you're stuck renting an apartment no matter what you do, it makes sense to work LESS instead of more and enjoy the additional free time instead. Of course, this means no family formation, no future, and eventually no civilization. So that's a problem. But don't blame young people for abandoning a grind that used to yield a house but now only yields burnout.
that's one thing i've noticed where i live. Either you are homeless, or you're a rich home owner, and basically nothing exists between. the gap is so huge that why even bother putting in effort if it isn't going to get you over that cliff?
You are so right. I'm fine with my salary as a single dude, but in order to buy a house and be able to support two children I'd have to double my income and work until close to the point of retirement first. I probably won't be able to even get kids at that point, so there is one potential motivation to work harder eliminated. Better to just minimize work time so I can play through all the Yakuza games before Putin blows up the planet instead.
The theif of joy is comparison. You can’t be mad at someone else in the real world for having something especially if you don’t know what they’ve been through to get it, there is enough for everyone to have everything if we can make it happen but it does take work. If you’re not happy now just being alive you’ll never be happy
It's not really the quotas. Women entering the work force in general led to doubling the number of people searching for work. Pair that with automatization and globalization and you got way too many people looking for too few jobs. That's why wages have been stagnating despite the huge increase in production (GDP).

It is low education. It's quite literally the least that you can do. You can graduate high school with one eye open if you simply show up - sometimes. Not even all the time. It's really disheartening to read comments like yours because I can tell without even needing to know you that you have no internal drive or concept of what it takes to actually be a better version of yourself or succeed in life. I'd be willing to guess that you've never applied yourself or taken responsibility for your life or actions if you truly think that a high school diploma is a decent bar to set for self-education. You simply have to do something, anything after high school to continue improving. Doesn't have to be college, but a trade cert., learning how to start a business, something. As a high school graduate, you provide virtually zero utility to any company other than low-skill, low-value mostly physical labor. Is that really that hard to understand? Apply yourself. @@Kit-kk9cb yeah you're missing the point completely. Anyone in the trades that's a success is not some dumb schmuck. They're savvy in other ways and often times excel as business owners and their willingness to work hard. Which is skill beyond the very baseline level of comprehension that getting a high school diploma requires. Education comes in many forms and in many ways, but it all comes back to willingness to put in the time and the effort. And what I rightfully gather from OP's original comment is that they perceive a very, very baseline level of effort to be acceptable. Which it's just not if you want to succeed. They're surprised that a high school education is not enough to succeed when it's incredibly unsurprising and should be very not shocking. And that all comes back to effort, responsibility and accountability. You get out what you put in.
If you lack a purpose, you lose your drive to improve. Then the depression kicks in , and you slowly lose the will to live. But not enough to end it immediately. You let things and yourself fall apart, hoping nature takes its course just in the most quick and painless way. I'm digging myself out of that hole. But it's a long, hard fight some days to even go to work just to keep living. There's plenty of others in a far worse situation.
I feel that. I often try to word what I feel but you did that perfectly. A lot of people do not understand that some contract jobs here (Poland) can kick you from being poor to "debt poverty". Oh yeah if you have debts, you are not likely to be hired over here in Poland and you are not capable of even opening a single-man business.
@mugthemagpie3001 That's the dumbest reason I've ever heard to not hire someone. It's a win-win for an employer. You're helping someone, or if kindness isn't enough, you now have an employee that will work hard just to keep the job.
This is me. Jobs pay bills barely and just depression. Breath is just a clock ticking as i have no joy beyond new game coming out but even those are low quality these days. So much i need but cant afford. Death by poverty is slow. Not happy and finding the will to dig myself out of a bottomless hole is slipping away. Hoping things turn around.
You got this man, I believe you can do it and you will be an even better version of yourself than you thought possible. Depression is logical, but it's hyper self-awareness. Try to do stuff for other people, some kind of volunteer work. It breaks the depression loop, gives you purpose and place in the community where you can make a difference, and you also get to meet some really kind people who care.
After that you drug yourself up. Then it feels worse. Then the thought of swinging from the tree a couple times occurs but you realize it's bad for your relatives so you don't do that. Then it's just anger and pain. If you get lucky you find something that isn't destructive and makes you happy.

A study was done with a class at a school. They "took" the good grades from the A and B students, dropped them down to C grade in order to "redistribute" to the D and F students a boost them also to C grades. The A and B students had common sense and decided it was unfair to work hard if they only get a C, so they did shoddy work or no work at all. Soon enough everyone was getting F grades because there was no high grades to take and redistribute. Sound like a familiar economic/governmental situation?
Too bad grades can be earned solely through hard work. Wages are already the way you describe in the experiment: there are so many workplaces where you are lazy and get paid the same as the hard worker. You don't get a higher wage for working harder unless your pay works the way that it should (it usually doesn't unless you are self employed or something.)
communism/socialism is about equal conditions, where everyone has the same start. That is, some students went to a tutor before school, and others did not. The goal is to give everyone a tutor, and not to equalize their grades at school.

Only way you fix that is pushing out most of the current politicians and government officials and instate hopefully better ones with new regulations on what they can do.
At my trade job, I work directly next to the older generation of workers every day doing the same exact work. In 2005, they added a clause to the contract where hourly pay was capped at around 60% of the maximum of the workers who hired in prior to 2005. They are now making over 60$ an hour (and it raises 3% every year per their contract) while we’ve been stuck at 35$ since 2016. It’s pretty easy to see why people are losing interest in work…..

Yep, workforce almost doubled and yet productivity didnt (excluding what we gained in productivity due to automation). And that is because women dont do the actual work. They sit in their office (or nowadays homeoffice), fill out som formulars, create some excel sheet or power point, then drink coffee are on the phone with other women and complain about the men at work. Basically women nowadays do the same thing they did before they were even allowed to work, they just dont do it for their husband and family, they now do it for a boss at a souless corporation that would instantly fire them if they could get away with it. And who suffers the most? The guy doing the work, that now has a massive overhead of management and regulation that always makes sure that he is the one to blame for everything and at the end of the month he gets paid barely enough to make a living. I work at a railway company in the EU and in the old pictures you see these proud railroad workers and at the railroad stations all the ppl that used to work there for these companies. How in the world is this possible? Well, I know how much the ppl in the office earn for knowing literally nothing, having no responsibility whatsoever and being able to do their 'work' from home at a time that they themselves can decide. They earn more than the ppl risking their lives when they work on the rails. This is such a sick system and I dont blame any guy that does not want to even try anymore.
Wages were depressed because women joining the workforce meant that the labor force was effectively doubled, tipping the scale in favor of the companies
We got double the income per household when women first entered the workforce. It must've been great at the beginning. it has nothing to do with CEOs and everything to do with real estate. our parents generation bought up all the houses, got bailed out when the investments failed, got to keep the houses instead of being forced to sell them on the open market, which would drop the price, and then they maxxed the rent using price fixing algorithms to turn all their children into indentured servants.

4:40 thanks for pointing out that women nowadays have a systemic advantage. I work in tech, and I saw some female colleagues still complaining there’s a gender discrimination against them and they are paid unequally. But they are being paid the same as me so as other men in the same level. So not sure where’s the income discrimination. On top of that, the hiring process clearly favor women. The company hires CS grad who has showed that they have the capability of doing the job. The company also hire non CS grad and invest time and money to teach them how to code, but the code quality produce by people from such program is just not as good as a CS grad who spent 4 years mastering the task. And of course the majority of CS grad hires are male, and the majority of non CS grad hired to such program are non CS grad. So it’s clear which gender the system favors… (I think having more female in the industry can be a good thing, but I’m annoyed hearing female colleagues complaining there’s a gender discrimination against them because from my perspective, it’s the complete opposite.)

Speaking of plumber....reminds me of this story how a guy (plumber) got called at 1am for an urgent job. Some fellas toilet system clogged and busted and backflowed into his house flooding the bathroom and about to flood his living room.
Plumber heeded the call and when he arrived the homeowner answered the door and gave him a condescending look and said, "Damn, you sure do have a pathetic job". Plumber just walked away and went home.
I think these type of folks can't learn even when they're about to drown in shit....they just have to drown and hopefully others will learn from the fools corpse.
@captain5104 That is an awesome story! It makes me very happy. More men need to do this. I know it's hard when you have a sense of responsibility to your job. For the reason in that story, I personally worship plumbers, lol! And lineman and garbage collectors and sewer workers and all of the men who make it work.
@raidtheferry I could be delusional here, but I think it might actually be changing. Companies and society in general are beginning to realize that they don't need all the useless jobs. The DEI crap is starting to fall. Hopefully, they'll get the hint that it's far better for the section manager to do the hiring than some idiot chick who has no concept of what the job is. My son and his contemporaries are around twenty-four years old. They all have real productive jobs and have no respect for those who do not. I guess society has become so stupid that the natural inclination of the young to rebel is turning them into sensible people l o l.
I’d argue that being a plumber is harder but pays better than being an HR manager. In the end of the day too the HR manager is going to bed stressed and mad at everything and the plumber is going to bed with a good workout and a good paycheck. Blue collar is underrated and misunderstood but it’s hard mentally and physically.

No body ever gets bumped up to a better job yet 2 years ago we got the first woman to work on the shop floor and she was instantly sent on courses and bumped up to the best paying job. The point where I fully knew I was leaving the place Is when they got the second woman on the shop floor. She has been there for about 3 months and has instantly been picked to go on courses to train as and engineer/fitter in the factory. Most labor jobs were both, actually.
When they moved the Ford Explorer factory from Michigan to Mexico (one of the very few that got outsourced to Mexico actually, most go to southeast Asia) they also reduced the headcount.

You don't get a higher wage for working harder unless your pay works the way that it should (it usually doesn't unless you are self employed or something.)
Great explanation of why socialism does not work.
communism/socialism is about equal conditions, where everyone has the same start. That is, some students went to a tutor before school, and others did not. The goal is to give everyone a tutor, and not to equalize their grades at school.

Essentially my only option is to continue saving up bits of money and buy a house out west because the coasts are unaffordable for so little. The problem is women used to be homemakers while men earned decent enough wages to support everyone in their household. Wages decreased drastically at the same time women joined the workforce, so now everyone is working for horrible pay.
Yes, this is known. Productivity has increased, but wages haven't.

Fun fact: in the Illuminati New World Order book, women won't be housemakers anymore.
