    Thank you for this. Just bought a 06 5.9 cummins with 147k miles and looking forward to doing proper maintenance to it.

    Just a quick tip, if you crack the seal and take off the cover before draining, it actually drains faster.

    Thanks for the Video. Just took on a bad tank of fuel and hoping this will resolve my problems.
    I went to my owners manual and they indicate the heater module on the side of the filter is removed before pulling the cap.
    You obviously didn't have a problem so I don't know why that would have to be done. Thanks again.

    Thank you for the video. The dealer way over tightened mine and i was worried maybe i was doing something wrong trying to get the cap plastic cap off. I recently went to a different fuel station, soon after my "water in fuel light came on". just by draining the fuel filter housing, i got 1/3 cup of water out of it! i'll be checking mine more often. thanks again.

    Thank you. Took me 15min
    I was lucky enough I had a hose big/small enough to actually fit inside the drain line.
    I’ll actually keep up with changing these regularly now that I know it’s simple as F..
    the first one was horrible 🤦🏼‍♂️

    I'll be replacing mine later in the week when it warms up a little. I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L Cummins 4x4 and it just started acting sluggish when I hit the pedal. We just took it out this evening and instead of easing off with the pedal I floored it and it didn't ram up. Instead, the check engine light came on. Fortunatelly, I have a blue-tooth scanner and I hooked it up when I got the WaWa and it read a P0148 Fuel Delivery Malfunction. I'm hoping that the source of my problem is the fuel filter. I haven't changed this thing EVER. It is overdue I'm sure considering I have 130k miles on the truck. Thank you for the video.

    Couple of things. You can prime the filter canister with Sea foam or diesel fuel, no need to prime with ignition. Also if you clean your engine it will run better :)

      tim harmon I’ve heard of this. Good video on it here. ua-cam.com/video/544E_X2oUgM/v-deo.html I haven’t tried it though. Partly just because it scares me to try anything unconventional that isn’t straight out of the manual. I’m fairly new to diesel. The thought of self inducing a $5K+ injector job has me afraid to try anything new. Thoughts?

    Aren't you draining the water from the fuel filter not the diesel?

    • @jordanepstein1499
      @jordanepstein1499 7 років тому +1

      Nevermind. I thought it was a water fuel separator on the filter but that does not come till later Rams. The reason to drain it is to remove the pressure and diesel from the filter in a controlled way to a catch basin under the truck instead of splashing it all over your engine compartment when doing the filter change.

    do you use the 2 micron filter or just OEM(7 i think)? i've heard that the 2 micron is the best for the common rail

    • @dylandownard209
      @dylandownard209 7 років тому

      I've heard that the 2 micron is best as well but I think you have to buy an adapter kit to switch to the CAT 2 micron filters. At least that's what I'm going to do when I get my cummins.

    The last two times I changed my fuel filter on my '03 Dodge it takes tremendous effort to pull the filter off the stem, in fact I pulled the top
    off of a new filter because it also would not go all the way easily so I wanted to pull it an see what the problem was. I can't figure it out. It will come out easily for about and inch then it sticks. What is happening here?

    When I first start my o3 5.9. The oil pressure runs at like 70 psi. THEN Comes Down To 40 After Driving For A While. Why is that.

    • @greg2730
      @greg2730 8 років тому

      +Dylan Ray It's what your ECM thinks your oil pressure is at.
      The cummins trucks do not have a real oil pressure gauge from the factory, it's just a calculation with engine temp & rpm.

    • @charliepoole8370
      @charliepoole8370 4 роки тому +1

      That reply doesn't sound correct, I'm not a tech but have been around engine enough to know that when you first start your engine, the oil is cold creating the higher pressure. Cold oil is thick, they pouring oil into your engine in the winter.
      Oil pressure goes down when the engine is heated up along with the oil, which lowers the oil pressure.
