These are near field monitors. To get the most out of them, you need to be very close to them and they have to be acoustically set properly. I've had them for about a year and I use them as monitors when digitizing 45s to a laptop. Essentially, I have the front of the speakers at about on the same plane as the computer screen at about 30 deg inward angles with the apex directly in front of me. They are also on foam speaker pads angling slightly upward. This reviewer is absolutely correct. The sound is incredible. A fantastic value and VERY highly recommended.

Sorry if thi is a kinda pointless question, but what would you say is the optimal distance from your head to place them? Would something like 3 feet from spea-ahem, monitor-to-ear be ok? What would you say is the best distance?

@@bailey2517 60 - 80 -120 cm. 45 degree both tangeled to your face ears. One angle this Ear, the other the other Ear. 120 cm + is okay too, but the Space Catching of the Tweeters becomes more difficult then.

I worked in radio from the late 80's to mind 2000's and we always had monitors in the studio and not speakers at every station I worked for but I never really thought about them being different. These sound decent enough, might be worth checking out.

I'm not surprised that you found the treble and mid-range particularly good. In the kitchen, with its tile floor, granite countertop and stainless steel appliances, that makes sense. In a living room or bedroom, with its carpeting, draperies and couch or bed, you would have a richer and fuller sound.

Towards the end of 2019 I was looking for some monitors to use at home with my DJ gear, mainly to help with track preparation and with my Akai MPC. I'd looked at things like the KRK and Yamaha as they seemed the most common. I wanted something small and portable with accurate sound reproduction. Watts was not really a concern as I have over 5k in things Like Alto monitors etc. Amazon reviews seemed to favour PreSonus and I wasn't really familiar with them, but thought I'd go for it. I just went with the standard 3.5, and they are amazing, pretty much the only monitors I need in my day to day use.

I bought guitar multi effects processor. I connected it to my small amp (combo of amp and speaker), but I realized that amp is alternating sound. I have double processing. Even on the cleanest/acoustic setting there is always some nodulation. A friend recommended to get a monitor as output from my processor, as monitor would produce clean sound as processor is producing. Would you agree and recommend this setup? Electric guitar -> multi effects processor -> monitor?

i seem to like them better than the regular speakers, humans are WAY TOO obessed with BASE frequency and think they improve the resince frequencies of morphic fields becuase its nuteral. and it allows you to also hear the human in the song instead the "sins" being hiddon. now id like to get the subwoofer after upgrading my pc but i think i just caught a pregnant cat and gonna have to deal with that. only problem with the speaker monitors (but ALLmost all pc speakers while not studio moinitors ARE near field) cant really listen outside the next room over, so hopefully can get the plugs for a more spitty long range speaker i got but dont ahve cords. i also for whatever reason in addition to the foam feet put the outline itself of the foam feet in the middle lol.

  • @Margotcopeland

Important tip if you're putting your turntable directly into powered speakers. If you have a CERAMIC cartridge (lesser quality, more stylus pressure -usually come with all-in-one systems or cheaper turntables - these can be plugged directly into the input of the powered speakers. MAGNETIC cartridges - more expensive, lighter stylus pressure, much better sound (more $$$$) require a phono preamp for correct sound (it increases the volume, bass and high frequencies) using something called the RIAA equalization curve. When records are cut, you can only put so much bass in a groove, otherwise it would jump out of the groove with a lot of bass....the RIAA curve lowers the volume of lows and highs when cutting the record, the phono preamp replaces them when you're playing back the record....and increases the volume of magnetic cartridges.. If you're investing in a record collection, magnetic cartridges are the way to go.... a ceramic cartridge will do serious damage and wear to a record with only a few playings.

Yes, these are for listening to music, assuming that they are sitting two to four feet away from your ears. Monitors are for use in the near field. Speakers are for use in the far field. That's why good speakers will be quite a bit larger. So if all you have is a small bedroom and you are listening to music while sitting at your desk, these are perfect. If you want to have good audio in a large, wide open living room, then no, this is not the right choice. But here is the thing... that nice, wide open living room will have set you back by half a million dollars to multiple tens of millions of dollars, right? So in that case you can most likely afford $1000-$100,000 speakers anyway. However, if you don't have that kind of money and you want "good enough" audio quality in a small setting, these mini-monitors are delivering an incredible amount of value.

Years later but looking now as a complete audio noob. Finally getting around to replacing some old Logitech X-220 speakers. I’m certain it’ll be a sizeable upgrade but man it’s been a struggle trying to find what’s the best “bang for the buck” at that $150-200 price point (based on Amazon prices at the time of commenting) explained in a way that a non-audiophile will understand
Trying to understand all the nuance is like explaining string theory to a cat. I just want something that “sounds good” out of the box with no tuning or mess of adapters or intermediary interfaces for gaming and video media at my desk - no mixing or audio engineering, just wanting high quality sound for casual consumption in near field (I think?). I just wanna link some aux cables to my pc/game consoles
It seems everyone you ask has a different answer for recommendations and it’s always adding the caveat that it depends on personal taste. But I have old cheap speakers with no sense of “personal taste”. It’s been incredibly hard finding general recommendations
I think I’ve finally narrowed it down to either these or the e5 version paired with a good sub (which will be a whole new beast of research)

I heard there are many people complaining about hiss with Eris E4.5, but not really in this video, is that because the recording was made with a good distance away? Also, as comparison with the Eris 5BT 2nd Gen, has anyone experienced with it in term of sound quality, hiss, and comparision with Yamaha HS7 or Adam T7V. They are the one I am considering currently, maybe combined with a Sub like Eris 8BT, is that a good idea or it will give more hiss? Thanks for any input.

First I have heard of this.....mine never hissed thankfully. There was however a short whine sound when first powered on.

I've just bought these and they sound terrific. I've placed them in my living room and they sound so much better compared to the 5.1 speaker set that came with my Harman Kardon receiver.
I've hooked up my digital TV box to the line-in and my MacBook Air is streaming music through Bluetooth. My appartment is pretty small so these do very well here. No need for big unwieldy speakers. Not using a subwoofer either. I do have one here that came with the Harman Kardon speakers. And it's quite necessary when using the HK speakers. But in my opinion the E4.5's go low enough for my taste. My neighbours won't probably like a deep bass or high volume either. I live in an appartment complex after all.
I'm not into music production. I just love listening to music. And my Mac streams Apple Music, Tidal and Qobuz to the speakers. Next to Internet Radio and my own music collection.
They were 215 euro on Amazon, but totally worth it. My only regret. Wish I've bought them sooner 😀

You might want to be telling your audience that unless there is a PHONO PREAMP built into the turntable or into the monitors themselves, you will need a phono preamp connected between the turntable and the main monitor. This turntable in this video has a magnetic cartridge, so a phono preamp is needed.

These are excellent little monitors, but if you want something equally as good, and need a sub out, look at the Edifier R1280Ts, basically the same speaker, but with a sub out, for some deep bass once in a while when you're not creating, and just listening. Other than that, it's VERY hard to beat the value in these, maybe impossible lol.

Because I've got the Klipsch R-41PM on my main turntable/speaker (with the Audio Technica AT-LP120X USB) setup which sound great, I want a new setup for my other place, I'll buy the Audio Technica AT-LP120X USB again as I love it, and was wondering what speakers I should pair it with this time.
