Thank you for this video. I've seen plenty of videos praising the 3.5s, but never a direct comparison video such as this one. I"m thinking I'll need to tweak my budget a bit, those 4.5s sound good! 👍👍👍😏😏😏
I went with the 3.5 with the sub 8. Takes up less desk space that the 4.5s and has way better bass reproduction. Wasn't that much more than the price of the 4.5s
I feel like using a separate subwoofer in addition is almost always better than only using a not much more expensive pair of speakers. In this case they're all cheap and from the same brand so the difference is pretty significant.
@@ayokunleogunnaike3348 Put it this way, these small monitors have more options on the back of it more than any other monitors in this price range. And they probably put out more uncolored accurate sound than anything in it's price range. I luv these little work horses 😉
I did feel that 4.5 have a BIIG difference. But most probably because they were nearer to the desk, since you said that they actually do not have such a big difference in sound quality. Anyway thank you for the video, I want to buy one of these tomorrow and I am searching some info on the both.
I think they are both a great budget friendly speaker! Definitely just depends if you want the extra bass of the 4.5s. I listen to music on my 3.5's and they are set to a little over 1/2 volume and I never turn my computer up past 40% and they are great for me. Not super loud but I am sitting 3 feet in front of the speakers so I don't need them to be loud. Just nice clear music :) Although I have been considering adding a subwoofer when I want to add that extra bass in but it's usually a fleeting thought
sorry Sir, but you put them at different heights - this produces different reflections from your big desk, which colours (changes!) midrange differently, and we're not listening to the 3.5 on tweeter level, like we do with the 4.5s, but rather from below. This really is important, sir, since it could change the sound almost as much as switching from one pair to the other. Equal height, and thus also equal desk reflections - bare minimum, otherwise pointless. Many greetings. M.
I opted for the 3.5 set plus the Sub 8 subwoofer. The 3.5 and 4.5 have the same tweeter. I’m just asking less of the 3.5” speaker: I roll off at something like 120 Hz. Total price: $300, but the bass is everything I could ask for, better than with the 4.5 alone.
Nice video I just picked these up at guitar center Bluetooth set. I have KRK rokits 8 monitors for my main playback but the Eris monitors are really good for mixing on a laptop. But it is nice to run two different pairs of monitors for mixing and mustering. Good video and good information with your sound testing.
Thanks for the video Nick. Can't decide between them, I've measured my desk like five times trying to picture their size haha. I can get the 4.5's for £40 more (which is about $50), so I may just get them!
Yeah it's a hard call but the 4.5s definitely were louder and a little more bass if you're using them just for listening and not mixing. Either one is a great option!
I love their look. nice to have on desk.. But both sounds distorted or not so capable... 4.5 is better though.. or to stick to the 3.5 and add a sub.. could be even better..

if you are looking for speakers for DJing then I'm not sure if the 3.5s would have enough bass and oomph for you. Nearfield monitors are best used within 2-4 feet so for being at home they would work. I just think you might be happier with the 4.5s for extra bass and fuller sound. Great idea! My first mic was the RODE Podmic, but you need an audio interface for it. I upgraded to the RODE VideoMic NTG and I friggen love it. It's a shotgun USB mic
Surprisingly the 4.5 seems to add a 'boxiness' to the entire mid to low range. It sounds to me (on this video) as if the cabinets are vibing along too much and thereby delivering that cheapo monitor sound. But it could also be the acoustics or the shotgun mic....
With higher volume the bass of the 3.5 was punchier and clearer than the bass of the 4.5 (a bit muddy in comparing and not as exact as the 3.5). I bought the 3.5 BT. No Sub needed.
yes i agree! it's hard to tell the difference but the larger speaker definitely sounded a little better to me. but not worth the price difference for what i am using it for
@@NickBorsellino warmer sound is worse not better for music production. If you use them for video editing you want the sound to be neutral. If it produces a warmer sound on them than you are likely to mix it less warm than if they are neutral. Meaning the sound can be a little thin on other speakers.
I just ordered a pair of E3.5. I'll be (actually I'm very very) curious how this will sound in reality, because all the videos I heard that E4.5 and E5.5 are a bit coloring the mids. At least for me. Later on I will buy an S80 sub for them to have sub freqs, but in every videos I heard that the E3.5 gives more flat response and more worth the money. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I heard. :)
I can only tell you my experience. The 3.5 was indeed more flat, less bass. Which is exactly what I expected. I thought they sounded great so I returned the 4.5 because I didn't really want to add additional bass for what I was using them for (video editing). And honeslty they sound great listening to music too. Sounds like they are what you need based on what you said
you are absolutely correct. surprisingly the 3.5 sounds so much better in terms of sound staging. they are more open. i’d get the 3.5 & pair them with subwoofer if i wanted more bass
@@tsom5216 Since then I already bought these. To tell it more accurately, I have got a pari of E3.5 from my wife for my birthday. I really like these little speakers. Fits on my desktop, gives really good and surprisingly flat response. And some weeks ago I bought an Eris Sub 8 for them. It is sooooo nice. Gives an amazing sound. Even for enjoying the music or composing, this is an amazing set for such small studio size what I have. And more importantly: it is not breaking the bank. + got 1000$ worth samples, vsts, etc...
I have the Eris 4.5 and am happy with them. Frequency response Eris 3.5 is 80 Htz to 20khz Eris 4.5 is 70 Htz to 20 KHz so the 4.5 has a better bass response. I do find when setting the bass on my DAW I just need to hear it otherwise if you play in a car there’s too much bass.
I stick with 4.5 because i do some mixing works and i need monitors sound more close to adult sound with "body" and stuff so the Presonus 4.5 + Genelec F-one sub is my choice. I also have fancy KRK RP5 G4 and they sound much more real, full and adult but they sound a bit to much for my room and i have some "questions" for this model in general. They sound too awesome and whatever i tweak it sounds awesome and it's not good for mixing at all. Presonus looks like are more realistic truly sounding monitors.
70 isn't enough to control bass. In order to control bass you have to hear at least 40 and 35 would be even better. Only sub or 8" monitors can help to handle this situation.
@@GuitarAge They are pretty good monitors for the price and I am still happy with mine. When I’m mixing down I use the monitors plus my Headphones to check the mix. Often the headphones give you that better stereo soundscape to hear everything in context.

To me it seems that the bass drum is louder on the 4.5. so, which is the right mix? I believe that the el. bass has the same effect. It's not very important full or flat but j😢ust the volume, dynamic peaks, hope to be understood. Cheers
К сожалению, при удвоении цены качество никогда не удваивается. Поэтому, если бы одни стоили 150, а вторые 175 (как вы предположили), то в лучшем случае - разницы не было заметно.
I have the 3.5"! I returned the 4.5" because it didn't seem like a big enough difference to me. I'm happy with the 3.5s for what I use it for (video editing, listening to music, watching youtube, etc)
I want to buy a set of studio monitors for music production and I do my mixes on the headphone mostly some people say the 4.5s sounds fuller and better for mixing and some say 3.5s sounds more flat so which one do you suggest ?
lots of different opinions. Of course these are a budget friendly option so I'm sure neither of them would be as good as something more expensive. I don't do music production so I can't really give a good opinion but for my simple video editing the 3.5's work just fine
Superb video. I am also looking to buy the 4.5 one as I am also a video editor not a sound designer guy. And my small studio is not well treated. I might look into that probably first.. 🤟
The 4.5 sounded way better than the 3.5. the 4.5 has a bit more in the lower midrange slightly louder than the 3.5. I saw in other video of speaker stand. You might wanna try it out on each 3.5 & 4.5 on the fluid brand speaker stand. I heard the different between the 2 stands, fluid brand and isoAcoutic brand.
After a year with 3.5 and 4.5 with Sub8, honestly I will tell everyone - THEY JUST SUCK. If you play electric guitar thru interface, or you listen rock/metal, these will not make you happy. External DAC will help, but still... no mids, no punch, much distortion, lifeless.... only good side is price point, but again, if I may say.... better buy nothing than struggle with these. Have a nice day.
The sound of the 4.5 sounds too nasal for me. The 3.5 has less power but sounds more natural because that's what you want when you are mixing. Ultimately, more bass always sounds better, but realize that most kids listen to music with small speakers or headphones. So mixing with a smaller version is better anyway. This is independent of the purchase price. When you are a real pro mix with different types a small one but also a large one Yamaha (not so expensive) or even an ATC 45 but these are € 10.000
Absolutely. I just bought the 3.5s 2 weeks ago and I am pleased. I have the wired ones for 99 bucks and bought a cheap Bluetooth transmitter with a 3.5 inch male end to plug into the front to stream from my phone to check mixes and it works fine.
The 4.5" sounds to muddy i'd definitely think the 3.5" are better and more clear sounding if your a beginner musician or if you want to edit videos. But there are much better monitors out there if you're willing to spend about $500- $1k on some speakers.
Thanks for the review. Can’t decide which ones to get. I also want to add a sub PreSonus Eris Sub8 as I like my sound. I’ve been video editing for many years and was using TV sound bars with a sub. Thought I would switch it up this time around as mine just gave up the ghost. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and review.
Well, I owned them both and I stuck with the 3.5 version. I think the 4.5 adds a little more volume and bass, which I guess can be good depending on what you're doing, but not if you're looking for a more flat neutral sound. I've never tried the sub, but I could see how that would be useful as well. I honestly had a hard time deciding which one to keep but I didn't notice a huge enough difference for twice the cost. I think the 3.5 is a really great set of speakers. You can't go wrong with either one though in my opinion!
It absolutely does to some extent. If you can't tell the difference it's because you're probably watching this video with the sound coming out of your phone which has 0 Bass to begin with. Watch it with a good sound system or good headphones and the difference is very noticeable.
Chill the fuck out. Why such agression to the guy who just tried to demonstrate the monitors? I did hear the difference. Maybe the issue is about you sitting there and listening to it with 3 bucks headphones or through phone speakers.
I know you tried to help, but this video doesn't cut it for me for evaluating these speakers. Breathy female voices aren't a good test. That acoustic guitar is helpful, some good bass, etc.

Frequency response Eris 3.5 is 80 Htz to 20khz
Eris 4.5 is 70 Htz to 20 KHz so the 4.5 has a better bass response.
I do find when setting the bass on my DAW I just need to hear it otherwise if you play in a car there’s too much bass.
Yeah I returned the 4.5 and I'm kind of regretting it
I stick with 4.5 because i do some mixing works and i need monitors sound more close to adult sound with "body" and stuff so the Presonus 4.5 + Genelec F-one sub is my choice.
@@derekfromtauranga6012 exactly, headphones are helpful for alternative mix and bass situation checking.
jaki sens ma taki test? głośniki nagrywane mikrofonem a dodatkowo później odsłuchiwane w randomowych warunkach na głośnikach u odbiorcy....
For the life of me I cannot find a video where they show how the Bluetooth works.
maybe this will help?

Just got a set of 3.5. Amazing is all I can say!
4.5 all the way!!! The acoustic guitar sounds a world better on the 4.5s
3.5 get yhe job dob for mixing. U hear exactly the points that need redoing
right on
To me it seems that the bass drum is louder on the 4.5. so, which is the right mix? I believe that the el. bass has the same effect. It's not very important full or flat but j😢ust the volume, dynamic peaks, hope to be understood. Cheers
К сожалению, при удвоении цены качество никогда не удваивается. Поэтому, если бы одни стоили 150, а вторые 175 (как вы предположили), то в лучшем случае - разницы не было заметно.
Thanks for this Nick, really interesting and useful review.
Some signal sound great on 3.5 and others in 4.5
In my mind sound is clear in 3.5 than 4.5
Its interesting for me 3.5 is enough for home use? Maybe not. Which one do you use too much?
E4.5 muuuuch better, fuller, more vibrant.
yeah i think i'm gonna get a pair of 4.5
Superb video. I am also looking to buy the 4.5 one as I am also a video editor not a sound designer guy. And my small studio is not well treated. I might look into that probably first.. 🤟
que hermoso suenan los 4.5 men
3.5 have more trebles, I prefer them
both nice👍
Bro plz 4.5 how many kilograms would you say? Thank you
no clue sorry. might be listed on their website or something
I might get the 4.5' for my PC as they have a wider sound compared to the 3.5' that have a tighter sound.
They both sound amazing, I would say 4.5 speakers are better. wide sound and clarity is on point. thanks !!!
4.5 is the best👍
thanks for the input! :)
When you are a real pro mix with different types a small one but also a large one Yamaha (not so expensive) or even an ATC 45 but these are € 10.000
thanks for the input and advice!
140 bucks at Sweetwater
nice
4.5 it's better but for the different of money and size the 3,5. It's the best choice
I agree. I kept the 3.5"
But there are much better monitors out there if you're willing to spend about $500- $1k on some speakers.
oh yeah there are definitely better speakers out there but these are pretty darn good and inexoensive
You can EASILY find the 4.5's for about $150, not $200. Makes the choice easier to buy them.
yeah i just clicked on my Amazon link in the video description and they are at $149.99 right now! :)
Why the fuck would you think recording the speakers would translate to people listening to your video
It absolutely does to some extent. If you can't tell the difference it's because you're probably watching this video with the sound coming out of your phone which has 0 Bass to begin with.
Watch it with a good sound system or good headphones and the difference is very noticeable.
I dunno I could definitely hear a difference when I was editing the video
That's a good point!
Lighten up Francis! It's clear the difference in these 2 speakers if you listen with headphones!
