These all have the same tweeter. I went with the 3.5 plus a Sub 8 subwoofer. I rolled off at something like 120 Hz. This asked less of the smaller 3.5” cone; it acts more like a midrange driver. Very happy with the setup, about the same price as a pair of Eris 5. But I’ll match bass with those any day.
I am blown away by the Eris 4.5. A beautiful upgrade from my previous Mackie CR3, which died of a sudden death. The soundstage & stereo separation is super clear & concise. The bass is deep & clean. I didn't buy the 5 because the price seemed significantly higher for only .75" bigger woofer. Totally happy with my purchase.
@@FromTheHood I had the Mackie for about 3 or 4 years. It died for the stupidest reason - the toggle switch to designate the master speaker as left or right went bad. Had the Eris 3.5's for over 2 years, and just a few days ago I upgraded to the E5's. Have to say: The bass response truly is on another level, and they do feel like a more "serious" set of monitors. However, I still think that the 3.5's are amazing: Incredible clarity, good stereo imaging and overall easier to use than the E5's (Switching them on/off with only one switch, less power consumption, less chance of constructive interference on low frequencies). In conclusion: If you just want to listen to music without much complication and you dont mind the restricted bass response, the 3.5's are an amazing choice. Having said that, the E5's are on a whole different level, and really worth the extra money and effort for more sensitive applications.
If you can afford it, I can highly recommend their Sceptre S8 speakers. I used to own the E5's but the Sceptres are next level. Expensive, but worth it.
@@sav7568 True, but for the amount that the E3.5's + Sub would cost, you could go for the E5's or maybe even E7's. Only reason I see for 3.5+Sub is if you have very limited desktop space, and even then I'd try to squeeze the E5's in with the help of a stand or something like that.

I've been enjoying your informative videos for a while now. Just good, solid information. I just had the Eris 3.5 here, and they're good for what they cost, but I'll probably pick the E5 for the deeper bass response and more body.
You mentioned the 3.5 and 4.5 have 1 active and 1 passive speaker. Can they be used on turntables that come with pre-amp, without needing a separate amplifier? Or do you need both speakers to be active, like the 5.
What exactly is a headphone input? Isn't that an output to play audio on headphones? It clearly says "input" for something you mention as an XLR Ouput too.

listening on my focal choras the 4.5 had the most balanced sound . the 3.5 were small and bright , but sounded too small and boxy . the 5s had to much low mids trying to approximate bass . the 4.5 were a little softer in the mids , but push the volume up and get them off the desk and you get most of the mid detail back . they were the most balanced across the spectrum and closest to a flat over all sound , just smaller than usual.
There's switches on back of the E5's to address the low end. Also mid and treble knobs. It all depends on the layout and setup I gather, so it's nice to have the options. Personally, I lika da bass, that's what sold me on them, especially for the price and small footprint. But if I was doing serious mixing I'd have to adjust for less low end.
For the side by side testing shouldn't the two smaller speakers with rear bass ports be near a wall (3 feet?) in order for the bass to be heard better?
the bass gain from the wall reflection will be unbalanced and not accurate . 3 feet is quite far though and for small speakers like this you could go quite close . 1-2x the port size is a good start position.
What you recommend for TV/music in livingroom? Have e3.5 for my desk and is already awesome but want a second set e4.5 or e5 for tv because soundbar+subwoofer is just to much base and I am annoyed by this, want a realistic sound.
Got the 4.5 myself couple month ago, been using them mostly for gaming and youtube. They're ok. Will be plugging in my 7 string Schecter as soon as I get an audio interface.
Hey, are you using guitar already? How 4.5 supports it? Im using focusrite and guitar rig 6 and im thinking about these monitors. Let me know your opinion!
@@ShaD4PlaY Yes, haven't gotten the audio interface yet so I use my rocksmith cable instead that i had from ages ago, which is not ideal. Tried BIAS FX 2 and some neural DSP plugins in reaper so far. Not too happy with the way it sounds, sticking to good ol amp until I get the audio interface.
In terms of video production would you reccomend a certain size monitor that would work best. Im looking to replace my super old Bose Companion 3 series 2.

Based on this video it seems that the 3.5 and the 5 sounds good, the 3.5 are clear on high and mids a little punchy on the bass, and the 5 has more deep bass. the 4.5 has a weak on high and mid. overall I would go for the 3.5 you can hear the highs and lows and a little punchy on bass but not overpowering, the 5 is for more deep bass output.
Great work dude. Tell me please , monitors for playing keyboards (left and right hand - bass and solo) at home - Eris 5 or M-audio bx5 d3? I need clean sound, without distortion.
We are starting a small home studio we play guitar and bass guitar, keyboard and drums which monitors are your recommendations. What interface do you use. Thank you Jerry. Hamilton Ontario Canada
Hey Edward, Love your videos man. Found you today. I want to use the speakers mainly for music and watching anime/movies and a hint of gaming. Would the E5 be fine for that rather than the smaller 3.5?
i have a question, i got the 3.5. which is better? adjusting the sounds from the speaker itself or from the audio interface? right now the main volume on may interface as max and i'm adjusting the volume from the speakers. is there any difference if i max the volume of the speakers instead then adjust the sounds from the interface?
There isn’t really a difference, and if there was, it doesn’t really matter because your speakers are still quite small. The way you doing it now is just fine 👌🏻

So you are saying the bigger the better? I am blown away by this knowledge xD Props for the comparisons tho.
In this case, yes. Bigger woofer, more bass frequencies you will get.
why does the E3.5 / E5 are louder than the 4.5 in the test ?
it sounds so unnatural
Why do you call inputs outputs?
What you recommend for TV/music in livingroom? Have e3.5 for my desk and is already awesome but want a second set e4.5 or e5 for tv because soundbar+subwoofer is just to much base and I am annoyed by this, want a realistic sound.
Got the 4.5 myself couple month ago, been using them mostly for gaming and youtube. They're ok. Will be plugging in my 7 string Schecter as soon as I get an audio interface.
Awesome!!
@@myoriginalname yo, how does it sound? I just ordered the 4.5 and got a Scarlett solo already im just curious how they sound
Hey, I'm planning to get a 4.5 BT, I will also record guitar mostly, I wonder if you've already tried it and if so, how did it go?
In terms of video production would you reccomend a certain size monitor that would work best. Im looking to replace my super old Bose Companion 3 series 2.
What jacket you're wearing ? A link will be appreciated :) Really liked the denim jacket !
got the 3.5 conneted to a amazon echo in my kitchen for some music while cooking
Dope!
I first had 3.5, now I use both 4.5 and 5xt.
3.5... meh
4.5, little off but okay
5xt, love it.
I wonder how much better does higher end monitor speaker sound like
Ed! Great videos! Thank you! I would like to know if it is possible for you to make a review and comparison for best budget desktop headphone miniamplifiers... I don't know if you have used some of them... like Behringer ha400, Presonus hp4, PylePro pha40, Rockville rhpa4, Art headamp4... or that kind of headphones amps... thank you!! Lots of love!
Hey, thanks for the video!
Do Eris 5 sound good at low volumes?
Thanks for watching!! The Eris E5's actually sound surprisingly good at low volumes!
Can I connect either of them directly to my pc or my Yeti microphone?
Great work dude. Tell me please , monitors for playing keyboards (left and right hand - bass and solo) at home - Eris 5 or M-audio bx5 d3? I need clean sound, without distortion.
Which monitors are you using at the back there
Yamaha HS8
Why you choose Yamaha in all this monitor if I may ask
Is there a big volume/output difference between the 3.5/4.5 and the 5s?
how would oen conenct the e5s tho to make left and right since both are active?
Hi. There is also E5 BT, which one should I get for purpose of music listening and gaming ? E5 BT or E5 ? E5 are a bit cheaper.
They say bluetooth version of E4.5 (BT) has some idle noise, is that happens with cable E 4.5 too
Thanks.
You are going to need to get an audio interface as well if you want to use the E5s. The E3.5s don't need an audio interface.
@@EdwardSmithMusic are Audio interfaces that are compatible with this expensive?
@@VietNguyen-or4lu they cost 60€-120€ Just Look Up on UA-cam
Has anyone tried these as TV speakers? Can't decide between a budget powered speaker or a sound bar at that price range.
Тут надо выбирать между 3,5 с сабом и 5ми.На 4,5 середина вся завалена,я бы не смог на таких работать.Спасибо за тест!
Nice Video Bro, Thank You :)
No problem!
sir is presonus E 4.5 is better than E 4.5 BT version
is there any difference in audio quality of BT and not BT version
Do you know something about this right now?
No doubt that presonus gives the best quality in reasonable prices.
i have a question, i got the 3.5.
which is better? adjusting the sounds from the speaker itself or from the audio interface?
right now the main volume on may interface as max and i'm adjusting the volume from the speakers. is there any difference if i max the volume of the speakers instead then adjust the sounds from the interface?
There isn’t really a difference, and if there was, it doesn’t really matter because your speakers are still quite small. The way you doing it now is just fine 👌🏻
To connect Eris 5 to my computer, do I need an audio interface?
You are going to need an audio interface if you want the best setup
No you don't. A 3.5mm to 2-Male RCA cable is all you need.
i have the 5 i use it for listing to music and watching movies on my pc and i love it
Awesome!!
Use more live music genres for tests please
and in 2024, those are still good choices in this time?
I have a question about the E5 monitors, the presonus usb96 interface and using it on pc. Would you mind if I email you about my concerns?
Front ported BT would do it for me.
