One of those golden kind of films that be enjoyed by all ages, but has a deeper, stronger resonance (on the theme of family & relationships) the older one gets.
This movie is one of those treasured John Hughes and John Candy movies. I watch it evert year around the holidays. Watch other John Candy 80's movies. He was the best.
One of my favorite movies. John Candy was a legend, just like Steve Martin. John Hughes based this movie on a real life experience he had a few years earlier. He left Chicago for New York for a business trip, and planned to fly back that night. His flight was re-routed to Wichita, Kansas, and 5 days later he finally made it back to Chicago. Paramount just released a special edition 4K with over an hour of deleted footage. I can’t wait to see that footage.
John Candy is a true Canadian icon. I think that this movie worked so well is because everyone seems to have at least one travelling story where things went wrong.
@Phillip Banes I suggested no such thing. I’m sorry there isn’t a giant 1,000 ft wall across our shared border, to keep my fellow Canadians from entering the US. I apologize for our passive aggressive nature that pasees for politeness in America creating the false stereotype we get stuck with. We’re nice, of course. But both our National sports allow for fisticuffs. Take that as you will. Back to the original post. I am trying to see it from your POV but the logic is flawed. The film industry in America has always had “foreigners” involved and many films that are held as classics are based on foreign films, or had influence from foreign film makers. And as big as the industry is, there are not many positions to vie for. So the most talented will always be in the running and to only limit it to which passport one holds seems short sighted. And the Arts are not funded well enough to allow for a huge pool of homegrown talent for the industry. I could be wrong but that’s just my 5 cents ( Canadian ).
A gem of a film which deals with situations that you may have encountered at times. To the amazing actors Steve Martin and John Candy, you both were made for this film as the chemistry was spot on and so true to life. My heart goes out to all who produced this movie and to John Candy who sadly passed away On the 4th of march 1993 at the age of just 43. How amazing it is to see this movie being enjoyed by young people 35 years later, I saw it in the theater at age 19 and it really did not grow on me until years later. Gary Slator's comment is very true, the film has a deeper meaning the older a person gets. PLUS, at the beginning it features the dad from Ferris Bueller's Day Off! I wonder if the two films are actually tied together...? Thank you, ladies!
Planes, Trains, & Automobiles is a holiday classic and one of the best road trip movies ever. Another great road trip you should watch is "Rain Man" (1988).
When Neil’s voice changed, it wasn’t because he broke his nose. It was because he got picked up by his testicles. Any boy knows exactly what that kind of pain can do to you.
Well, I think we can consider it confirmed that testicles have not been part of these ladies’ anatomy. However, I have seen some very empathetic reactions to that scene from plenty of women as well. 😄
@@0okamino technically, women can feel the same pain of getting socked in the balls, it's just a lot harder. Biologically speaking, balls are just modified ovaries. This is such classic Film about the birth of a friendship with two comedy legends with John Candy who was taken from us way to soon another great movie u should react to is Uncle Buck . That is his best movie ! .
Yes, a big part of this movie's theme is how bad traveling around the U.S. can be around the big year-end holidays like Thanksgiving in late November and Christmas in late December. Airports especially are crowded worse than any other time. And If the weather is bad in any of the big cities, it screw up airline schedules for entire regions or the whole country. That first flight from New York to Chicago should have been a couple of hours. But first they got diverted to Kansas because of snow, and once that happens ... things just keep getting worse. Of course it's all exaggerated for comic effect. But it's all very familiar to anyone who has traveled around North America during the holidays.
It might be worth mentioning also that most of the U.S. has very poor train service, which you can also see here. I suspect that the general level of train service and quality in the U.S. is around 50 years behind anything in Europe. Most people in the U.S. either drive themselves or depend on airlines to get around. Each has its advantages over trains. But without robust rail services there's really little affordable backup if either of them fails.
What he is chewing is called chewing tobacco. Some people use it instead of smoking cigarettes. You put the tobacco in your mouth to get the effect of nicotine but you spit out the juice. You might see it with American baseball players.
Yep that what riding the bus is like me an mom took the bus from ft.worth Texas to Modesto California took 4 days to get there the bus goes right by US/MEXICO boarder only fence separates between the two countries
Did you watch the post-credits scene? Planes, Trains, and Automobiles was one of the very first films to have one, long before MCU and others started doing that.
It’s not the house from Home Alone but, the two houses are about 2 miles away from each other. Also, there are quite a few people who have mistakenly thought it was the same house in Home Alone.
@@da40flyer Yes, that’s true. The three houses are in relative distance of each other. I think the Uncle Buck house is closer to the PT&A house than the Home Alone house but not quite sure. A family from the Chicago area made a video of the locations for most of the John Hughes movie houses on UA-cam, and other locations in the movies.

You might see it with American baseball players.
his high voice was a result of being "picked up by his testicles". It doesn't actually happen but it's a common joke.
Yeah, I think it was cute how they thought that he was talking high-pitched because he broke his nose… bless their hearts 🥰
Always a must watch during the holidays, I was 17 and see this at the cinema...you would also enjoy The Three Amigos

Great news everyone, they've released an extended version of this movie today, which features unseen footage that were previously deleted.

Thanks for this! I had not heard about it.
Vicky + Ellie + Michelle =🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wow I just watched this for the first time today with friends. Now I get the reaction. Nice!
Did you watch the post-credits scene? Planes, Trains, and Automobiles was one of the very first films to have one, long before MCU and others started doing that.
John Candy could make you laugh uncontrollably then break your heart with so much ease. He went too soon.
Next Holiday American classic movie you must watch is "It's a wonderful life" You'll really enjoy it.
Yes, but be sure to watch it in the original black-and-white, not in a "colorized" version!
It’s not the house from Home Alone but, the two houses are about 2 miles away from each other. Also, there are quite a few people who have mistakenly thought it was the same house in Home Alone.
The Uncle Buck house is also nearby. John Hughes really loved that area.
@@da40flyer Yes, that’s true. The three houses are in relative distance of each other. I think the Uncle Buck house is closer to the PT&A house than the Home Alone house but not quite sure. I have the Google Earth app on my old computer with pins on the locations, but not on my more recent computer.
A family from the Chicago area made a video of the locations for most of the John Hughes movie houses on UA-cam, and other locations in the movies.
I miss John Candy so much ❤ He was one of the greatest
Yes, I can’t believe that in 2024 he’ll have already been gone for 30 years. Can you believe that?
Rip To John Candy & John Hughes, We Still Miss You Guy's Always
It's not the Home Alone house but it's not far away from it. They are both in same suburb of Chicago about 2 miles apart.
14:34: “Those aren’t pillows!” 😱
Any John Hughes directed movie is great and any movie with John Candy is great! Uncle Buck u should watch next. Hughes directed, Candy is the star. First time u see the Home Alone, kid! RIP to Candy and Hughes!

Great movie to watch for Thanksgiving and hilarious John Candy movie also. Fun reaction
10:19 - Vibrating Beds were very popular in cheap motels in the 80's. I'm sure you ladies can come up with of jokes about that.
That is one hell of a lucky dog and I'm not talking about the frozen one.
Since you like John Candy I definitely recommend “Summer Rental”!
Pro tip, rental car lady and flight cancelled announcer both in Ferris Bueller!
The twist near the end is very well done - Del is homeless & his wife died years ago.
Wow! Mixing all those liqueur will create bad headache in the morning..
a lot of actors from Ferris Beuller and She's Having a Baby are in this
"Kindness?"
Hey gals I cry along with you LOL John Candy plays the part of Del. You should watch some of his movies like “Uncle Buck” or “The Great Outdoors”. Uncle Buck is really good and John Candy really has a sweetness about him in all his movies. Can’t believe he’s been dead for prob 25 yrs. Too soon.
Vibrating massaging bed used to be the norm watch *(National Lampoon's Vacation)*
'Magic Fingers' - put a quart or two quarters in and it vibrates the bed springs (like your phone in 'vibrate')
