Still my all time favorite John Hughes movie! The cast, script, soundtrack, and cinematography are outstanding. I especially loved Alan Ruck’s performance as Cameron, he knows how to deliver his dialogue.
It is a Classic! So is "Sixteen Candles". As well done as those two are, "The Breakfast Club" is my vote for the best in the John Hughes filmography: script; acting; directing; soundtrack; message.
I'm from Chicago and that was also my Senior year of High School. Much of it was filmed in my neighborhood...and my school classmate Kristen Graziano was actually the girl on the school payphone with Ferris "Hi Ferris, how's your bod?" 😊 - she had fun making the movie.
I actually met him at a bookstore in Northbrook court in 1987 and he was gracious enough to take the time to talk to me about Film ( I was a film student at Columbia at the time) he told me before Sixteen Candles he was never on a movie set and the gave me perhaps the BEST ADVICE I ever got as a student filmmaker which I’ll share with you and this is a quote, “Don't get caught up in the technical aspects of filmmaking. Rely on the experience of your crew for that. Everything begins and ends on the written page. A movie can be poorly filmed but if the story is good? The audience won’t notice and even better? Won’t care”… I’ve shared this story with several colleagues who have worked with John who ALL said I must have caught him on a good day. He was notoriously moody and very aloof but I’ll always be grateful to this Icon for taking the time to stand there in a crowded bookstore to answer my questions.. RIP John and thank you!
I think of this movie as kind of fantasy or wish fulfillment for most teens. Ferris was the Deadpool of the 80s, his abilities to break the 4th wall and everything just works out for him
The actor who played the principal was eventually arrested for being a pedophile who liked teenage boys. The actors who played Ferris parents got married in real life. They used a replica Ferrari buy real ones like that sell for between 20-30 million these days. Cameron’s house was designed by a famous American architect , the garage was originally designed to be an office and it has a kitchen and bathroom in it. The house was abandoned for many years but I read that someone bought it like 5-6 years ago and renovated it and added a two storey addition to the back. The actor who played the boring teacher who repeated the kids names was a speech writer for President Richard Nixon before he went into acting.
I absolutely love Edie Mcclurg in this film. She was Grace, Principal Rooney's secretary and she was hilarious!! She played the best characters in the 1980's.
One of my all-time favorite 80s comedies, along with Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Caddy Shack, Planes Trains & Automobiles. Raising Arizona, Princess Bride and A Christmas Story.
Best thing to hear any reactor say is, "I have no idea what this movie is about" and then they love it after watching it. I agree this is one of those movies you can watch every few years it is great. I think Fast Times At Ridgemont High has to be on your 80's must watch list as well now.
This movie is hilarious! I was 20 when this came out. Now, I would never do what Ferris did because I would have to deal with the wrath of my parents, but I have to admit his keyboard that made sounds was ingenious and hilarious especially the fart noises! You'll notice that Ferris's sister, Jennifer Gray, is the girl in Dirty Dancing! This movie is fun and funny at the same time!
Since you had not known about this movie before watching Deadpool... you wouldn't know how many references Deadpool did to this one here! :D It's an awesome comedy and I love it too.
Ya this was made in Chicago. We used this as a manual of how to survive high school. My friends and I skipped school several times, took the train to downtown Chicago and went all over. It was great fun. I even ran into my mom one day at 4:00pm after work. She said "What are YOU doing here?" I quickly lied and said, "oh we had a half day of school so we took the train downtown to check out Chicago!" and got away with it like in the movie. I also went to detention all day detention like in the "Breakfast Club" several times as well. I almost was kicked out of school for the number of all day detentions and suspensions, but graduated somehow. LOL
It helps to think of the entire story as being told thru the eyes & ears of the students at Ferris’s high school in the days & weeks following the events of the movie, the cartoonish exaggeration, the gossip, the rumors, the tall tales & the myth building….then, it all makes a lot more sense , all of Ferris’s lucky breaks, & close calls, & everyone who went against him, their demise, lol.
Famous story: The sister from this movie, as you can see is very cute, was advised to get a nose job because she wasn’t getting a lot of work after 2 famous movies, this one and a movie called “Dirty Dancing”. After the nose job people literally didn’t recognize her anymore and it ruined her career.

We all root for Ferris, but when we really look at him, we see that he's a total sociopath! He uses people. He lies. He manipulates. He's a sure bet to grow up to be a slimy politician! LOL!
I have to give him some credit for offering to take the heat for Cameron. Ferris would get the heat for lying to his parents, and skipping school, on top of destroying the car. I’m not saying that makes him completely good, but maybe not all _that_ bad.
@@0okamino ..... I'll agree with that. He cares about Cameron and Sloane. He sees Cameron as his "sidekick": not his equal, more like a little brother.

Ferris' parents (Cindy Picket and Lyman Ward) got married after meeting while making this movie. They divorced in 1992, though.
