One of the best comedies of the 80s. John Hughes did so many fantastic films back then Ferris Buelller's Day Off, Pretty In Pink, Uncle Buck, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, The Home Alone films and many more. The plot here lends itself to great comedy scenarios with Steve Martin as the straight guy, and John Candy as the clown. Funniest part is when the car catches fire. I saw this at the cinema on release, and the audience were nearly choking with laughter. A very poignant ending when we realise Del's wife has died and he is in fact homeless. A shame too that John Candy died so young at only 44 and indeed John Hughes himself died very young only 59. Still he left a great legacy of films, of which this was one of his best.
Great reaction!! 🤣John Candy has a small role in "Home Alone",good Christmas movie. "A Christmas Story" and "It's A Wonderful Life' are timeless classics everyone should watch at least once.👍👍

@@maplenutsreact I know a lot of people are going to recommend "Die Hard" (technically a Christmas movie), but I want to recommend my personal fav Christmas movie, "Gremlins".
That one second john candy as the devil....I can see Steve martin driving in his car parodying van halens song running with the devil: " ......🎶running with John caaaanndddyyyyy"🎶.......
Steve Martin started as a standup comedian, then wrote for the smothers brothers comedy show and frequent host for Saturday night live which is why hes so good at the physical comedy.
I love this film growing up. I lived 10 minutes from the car running into the El Rancho motel in Gurnee Illinois. Surprisingly it it still in business to this day. You don’t see many Motels anymore. The part you’re going the wrong way was filmed on route 41 highway going to Illinois and Wisconsin. Back then used to be a lot of farmland and not much anymore. In Wisconsin border there are still some farmland. My favorite scene is the f bomb at the airport. The lady was in another John Hughes film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. another classic John Hughes film
@@EVERYDAYGames00 idk lol I doubt it. I had a friend who got into a nasty divorce and he had to live in that motel for sometime. I went to visit him years ago at the motel and took some pictures. He wasn’t at the motel at that time. Just took pictures from the outside
_The Shop Around the Corner_ is the Platonic ideal of a Christmas movie. Pair it with _It's a Wonderful Life_ and you've got yourself a Jimmy Stewart Christmas charm double feature.
Hi Jordan & Chandra!😊 That jump scare with Chandra and the dog in the truck was pretty funny. This is a John Hughes film that seems to get overlooked sometimes. He made such films as "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "The Breakfast Club" among others. He also wrote "Home Alone". His films are normally comedies that all take place in Chicago. In this one they were going to Chicago. My favorite holiday comedy for this time of the year is "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" (1989)! A traditional Thanksgiving meal for my family would be a whole cooked turkey stuffed with homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes, hot rolls and butter, peas, and cranberry jelly. Great reactions to this very fun buddy travel film, Maplenut Kids!!!🎬👏👏👏👏 Happy holidays to both of you!🎄🎄❄❄🎅🏻🎅🏻
Happy Holiday's to you too! Hahaha yeah, that dog scare really got me. Ooo National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation sounds fun... I've definitely heard of those movies before! We'll have to add that to the list! ❤❤❤

Del had been homeless since his wifes death. He couldn't stand being in the same house or even town since she passed. He was always trying to outrun the grief. Neil probably ended up getting Del a job at his company based on how good of a salesman he had been during their trip. The ending is actually dark and bright, but they leave it to you to figure it out.
I never cared about the lives of celebrities even after hearing they were having personal problems or sick. Even after they would pass away i wasn’t affected much but after John Candy died i felt sorrow for a celebrity for the first time because he lightened up my childhood in the 80s and early 90’s. If you really like this film you will love Uncle Buck, Canadian Bacon and Only the lonely
Traditionally it is when the wife serves enough food to feed 10 times more people than needed. This apparently is no accident as it's been going on for over 30 years now. All will leave with enough leftovers to last them almost a week. This year will be no different because she's been planning the meal for over a week and last night told me what was on the agenda. When she's sees her entire family eating a feast she has prepared, she is ecstatic ..... end of story. I think there are alot of Moms that do the same.
This is the best Thanksgiving movie ever made. Lots of great Christmas movies, but not many for turkey day. The ending really chokes you up, if you have a heart at all. God Bless folks and Have a Merry Christmas as well.
It’s a Wonderful Life is a good Christmas movie. For something offbeat that takes place at Christmas, Better off Dead with John Cusack. That movie is wonderfully weird and funny.
As with any film, there were many parts that were cut, including entire scenes. The thief in the hotel was the guy who delivered pizza and the beers (which soaked a spot in the bed), so it wasn't as random as one might think. Del only tipped $1 on $19, which is a low tip for delivery. Neil's wife didn't understand why it would take so long to get back, or why he was in other cities, so she thought he was cheating on him. That's why she showed concern at the end (and why there were so many calls), and why she had relief when she found out Del was real (and a guy). Something that's easy to overlook is that if they left Saint Louis during daylight, they should have made it to Chicago that same evening/night. The only state they would drive through is Illinois. Nowadays, it could be between 4-5 hours, but back then, perhaps a tad longer with fewer interstate highways. But the trooper who pulled them over has a WISCONSIN patch on his coat. They OVERSHOT Chicago.by driving northward into Wisconsin! When Del later says they should be there in 3 hours, that means they overshot by most of the state of Wisconsin, and that led to an extra 6 hours of travel. It's nice to see or hear details about the extra footage/scenes/lines, but it would have slowed the movie down a bit too much and messed up the timing. So I agree that the movie is rather perfectly paced and made rather well. I wish it was more family-friendly in the middle, but Steve Martin insisted on that scene where he said 18 F-bombs in a minute or he wouldn't do the movie. It's a great Thanksgiving movie, especially when it's on TV (which cleans it up a bit to make it more family-friendly).
In the deleted scenes the guy who robbed them was a pizza delivery guy that del didn't tip. Neil mentions it at breakfast when he says "maybe when you went into my wallet for pizza"
"You shared a motel room with a complete stranger? Are you crazy?" "Not yet. But I'm getting there." Happy Thanksgiving! 😎 🦃 Fun Fact: Film debut of Dylan Baker and Susan Isaacs. Turkey Dinner Fact: After the credits, Neal's (Steve Martin) boss is still at his desk analyzing the ads, his Thanksgiving dinner sitting on his desk. New House Fact: Neal's (Steve Martin) house was also a set built from scratch, consisting of seven rooms, and taking five months to complete. It ended up costing $100,000, which angered Paramount executives, and caused turmoil on the set. Crazy Rant Fact: The Marathon Car Rental scene is exactly one minute long from the time Steve Martin starts his tirade to the time the attendant ends the scene. In that sixty seconds, the "F" word is used nineteen times. The film would've easily been rated PG or PG-13 by the MPAA, if it weren't for this one scene.
Barking Dogs Fact: "My Dogs Are Barking" is an American idiom. The word "dogs" means feet and the word "barking" means hurts. The expression "my dogs are barking" can be traced to cartoonist Tad Dorgan, who worked for the New York Evening Journal and was popularized throughout the world by American servicemen. I'm adding that to the trivia from here on out. I hope that you had a Blessed Thanksgiving too! Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍
* Can you imagine the laughs they had during their Thanksgiving dinner when they told everyone everything that happened on Neil's little "business" trip. Ooohhh, they were probably howling with laughter. Even the children were probably like "What happened? Wait, tell me what happened again." lol. Neil had to buy that rental car you know. Knowing how big Neil's heart is, he probably even sent that motel a check for the damages. I'm sure they let Del live there until they could help him find a job, and then help him find his own place and get back on his feet again.
If ya'll like Steve Martin and are readers, I recommend some of his books. He's actually a very skilled writer, and not just for an actor. Picasso at the Lapin Agile, The Pleasure of My Company, and Shop Girl are his big ones.
This was originally written where Neals character was thought to be cheating on hus wife. Hence all the phone calls too his wife and her asking where are you? She was relieved to meet Dell at the end.
There are deleted scenes If you want more, some of them actually tells more of the story. There's a scene were both of them are in a diner & Del has a monologue of what he had been doing after the loss of his wife, but sadly they never filmed that scene & that sucks because it's a really sad backstory on the monologue, but it's well written & John Candy would have made that monologue great! But I guess why that one was never filmed is because that scene would have most likely been cut out as well.
Neil’s watch was part of a famous watchmakers “His and hers” luxury set costing 1675.00 set. Vibrating beds can still be found in some southwestern sparsely populated states.

Scent of a Woman..don't let the title fool you...a Great Holiday movie. Plus out of all the iconic Al Pacino performances, this one nabbed him his one and only Oscar.

I love this movie! It's my traditional Thanksgiving movie every year! No matter how many times I see this movie, the end always gets me. Another fun Thanksgiving movie is Dutch starring Ed O' Neil from Modern Family and Married with Children.... There are so many Christmas movies for you to watch I'm sure a lot of people recommend it to you. But I think you'd get a kick out of The Ref starring Denis Leary. I don't think anyone has ever done a reaction to that movie yet.
Christmas movies that will make you laugh my 3 favorite National lampoons Christmas Vacation , A Christmas Story based on the yr. 40s-50s . Its a Wonderful life .I believe this to be the 1930s . This one doesn't rub all the Xmas haves or wants . But shows how 1 person can impact the lives of many . Great ,Great reactions to this one guys . My first time with you . I love that you dont swear . Ive seen many reactions . They talk while movie is paying and don't connect to the characters . Or every other word spoken is a curse . Some even Smoke while on reaction....not cigarettes . I dont care for that . I actually stumbled on you guys my last reaction dúo. Im very happy . Thank you for being a proper lady and gentleman reaction duo. Very likable . Much Luck to you both. See you at the next reaction !
Always a great reaction, thanks! You seemed to enjoy this one, so I'd like to recommend the movie Summer Rental. It released two years before this movie and stars John Candy, as well. It has a similar vibe, so I think you'd enjoy it.
Surprised about your portrayal of Thanksgiving in Canada. I lived in Montreal for a year and used to visit every year so I had double Thanksgiving most years(sometimes 4) and they were always the same as the states.
Great reaction. I actually grew up in Stubbville. It's a small village called South Dayton in New York state. The train station was used not only for this movie but also The Natural starring Robert Redford. Fun fact, they had to truck in snow because we had an early melt. You'll notice at the train station the snow is rather dirty
You’re in luck since you wanted the movie to keep going to see more of them together… last year a new 4k HD DVD was released with over an hour of deleted scenes and edits added back to the movie ! You can order it online now ! 😊
Great reaction, I really enjoyed it. As for Christmas movies I highly recommend 'A Christmas Story' for a comedy, 'It's A Wonderful Life' and 'A Miracle on 34th Street' for heartwarming dramas and of course 'Die Hard' and 'Lethal Weapon' if you want action movies with Christmas undertones and even 'Rocky' for a drama that could be considered a holiday movie since story takes place from Thanksgiving through new year's eve.
Since I see a lot of Christmas recommendations, how about the 1970 musical version of Scrooge with Albert Finney. The only A Christmas Carol version that shows Scrooge in Hell.
"A Midnight Clear" is an unforgettable holiday movie.....check it out. And there will be lots of calls for "Die Hard"....but certainly above all else "A Christmas Story" is required viewing....
There were a lot of scenes and sub plots taken out before this movie hit theaters. One was Neil's wife suspecting he was cheating on her... again.. becuse the reason Neil needed to catch an early flight home in the first place was a past infidelity and he didnt want her to assume it was happening again. Also, there was a scene were Neil and Dep go to jail after getting in a fight in front of the highway patrolman... which is where del gets the black eye he has when hes in the big rig and says "our ship has come in". There was also a scene where Neil and Del go get a coffee after he says he doesnt hsve a home and Del tells him his story in more detail. Theres a video on YT called "The Lost Version of PT&A that goes into more detail, and the recent Blu Ray includes some deleted scenes
they cut almost an hour out of it, it was a much darker movie, Dell latched onto someone every trip and Neil's wife was sure he was cheating on her, the thief was a pizza delivery guy Neil didn't tip
A special film that in my opinion is quite a rarity. So well made and the fantastic main actors John candy and Steve martin. You couldn’t have asked for better, these two were meant for this film without a doubt. Missed to this day the kind and humble John candy ❤

Great movie! John Candy should of been nominated for an Oscar for this film. He's so good!
At the end of the credits, the boss is still mulling over the ad campaigns in his office
Hahaha such a terrible way to spend Thanksgiving
Neil’s watch was part of a famous watchmakers “His and hers” luxury set costing 1675.00 set. Vibrating beds can still be found in some southwestern sparsely populated states.
I can't believe you can still find vibrating beds!!
@@maplenutsreact Fifty cents - fifteen min.
This is a classic
That's how Houdini died, you know!
Still use that quote to this day. Thanks for sharing. Peace, all 💕
I Watches This Movie Every Thanksgiving, That's My Tradition 😊
Haha what a great tradition! We might have to make that one of ours too now!
@@maplenutsreact 👍
Loved your reaction!
For Christmas comedy, you cannot beat National Lampoon 's Christmas Vacation
They should watch National Lampoons Vacation first (and it also has John Candy) - then Christmas Vacation (they'd get even more references that way).
@@MLJ7956 Agree!
Happy Thanksgiving
I have watchdd this movie so many times.. just thought of this so.. neil page lived a life of good luck and good things happening to him.. blessed by god.. now i see how much dealing with dell and all the snags would kill him... neils family ..house and life is the top achievement if every man
New subscriber Here!! One of my very favorite movies! Loved watching you guys enjoy it! Chandra has such a great laugh, it was fun watching her when I knew what was coming! This isn't just a great comedy, it's one of the best movies of any genre to me!! Makes me cry like a baby every time!!
This is My favourite film, but for Christmas, it has to be ' Santa Claus the movie ' from the 80s...such a great cast and story...funny aswell, you both will love it
I feel like a lot of people miss that Del cost Neal TWO taxis in NYC. Neal lost the race with Kevin Bacon because he tripped over Del's trunk.
Oh yes! I totally missed that!
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone 😊
Happy Thanksgiving! ❤❤❤

Scent of a Woman..don't let the title fool you...a Great Holiday movie. Plus out of all the iconic Al Pacino performances, this one nabbed him his one and only Oscar.
The title definitely doesn't sound like a Holiday movie haha, so I'll take your word for it!
@@maplenutsreact thank you, I hope you two react to this movie. After all the iconic Al Pacino roles this is only one he took home the Oscar, but most importantly, it will give you, as younger generation now say " The Feels!) Epic Ending..a true Holiday Movie. ♥️ Thanks for taking time to shout out . ✌️
Candy is the second best actor ever.Hoffmer is the best.
He makes vanilla ice cream seem exotic....
Uncle Buck is probably John Candy's best movie and it's a winter movie.
Oooo good to know! I would love to see another John Candy movie!
Another great movie to watch around Thanksgiving is Scent of a Woman which stars Al Pacino, Chris O’Donnell and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
Awesome fun , you 2 have wonderful laughs 😂
One of my favorites! Watch every year! This and “the Ref”. Great holiday movies!
Perfect timing! my favorite part is when they are driving the wrong way on the highway and John Candy is dressed as the devil hahaha.
Surprised about your portrayal of Thanksgiving in Canada. I lived in Montreal for a year and used to visit every year so I had double Thanksgiving most years(sometimes 4) and they were always the same as the states.
For a good Christmas movie I highly recommend The Ref. It's my personal favorite Christmas movie.
You have to watch Uncle Buck with John Candy
You’re in luck since you wanted the movie to keep going to see more of them together… last year a new 4k HD DVD was released with over an hour of deleted scenes and edits added back to the movie ! You can order it online now ! 😊
The F-bomb scene is why this is rated R they were asked to remove it to get a PG-13 rating but they refused
It's SUCH a memorable part! I can see why they kept it in!
Grumpy Old Men is a good winter movie
Lots of recommendations, thank you!!
First time viewer. You two are great. Suuuuuuubbed. 😎👍🏼
Perfectly put. Those two really made the movie ❤❤❤
Well, Die Hard is the best Christmas movie so if youve not seen that, it's a must.
Another good Thanksgiving movie is Dutch with Ed Oneil. Also another good John Candy movie is The Great Outdoors.
Del was the one who got the rental car as he had Neils credit card.
I watch reactions to this movie all year but have been watching a few new reactions per day in the past few days. Guaranteed laughs every time. I couldn’t stop laughing if I tried!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
For Christmas I recommend Jingle All the Way and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
Awesome! Thank you for the recommendations!
there is a "special edition" DVD - it has extended & deleted scenes
For Christmas either 8 bit Christmas or the classic national lampoon Christmas vacation.
Hope you two are having an great and awesome day ❤
