- With Resident Evil Village upon us, I decided to replay the game it takes major inspiration from: the legendary Resident Evil 4. I have a lot to say about this one.

@Johnny Silverhand yesssss! Best version for sure!
@Johnny Silverhand Until VR comes out... Probably.... Well I hope so
May have missed you mentioning it, but it's pretty cool they're re-working 4 for VR (Quest exclusive currently).
Hoping for 8 to be a launch title for PSVR2!
@Johnny Silverhand My friend and I beat the whole game where one of us each held one part of the wiimote. Couch co-op excellence.
I like 4 but imo, they’ve never recaptured the feeling of part 1. The emptiness of the mansion, the slow opening door. It was paced perfectly. I also miss regular zombies.
man this is one of the best videos i’ve seen on youtube in so long. Can we please start calling these jake’s takes?
Hahah thank you
I like the way you think, friendo
@@JakeBaldino you should do a jakes take on why resident evil 6 was hot garbage
@@nathanpalmer3505 woaaaaaaaah
Oh nice, and Jake's reply was also a RE4 merchant quote.
Best thing too is the Merchant I can never forget: "WHATCHA BUYIN?!"
"WHAT ARE YA SELLIN!!"
Always loved it 🤣
"Ahh! I'll buy it at a high price."
NOH ENOUGH CASH............ stranjah
"Heh heh heh thank ya"
I remember spamming the buttons relentlessly to annoy my brother
"Stranger? Ha! What you need that for? Goin' hunt an elephant?"
4:23 I always loved that Ada sees a Ganado wearing Leon's jacket in separate ways after Leon is captured in the village.
i wish it were an unlockable outfit
Me on my 100th playthrough: "hmm... Interesting..."
i have played it about 77 times up to this date dude it's just a masterpiece.
Same! Beaten it so many times and it NEVER gets old. I just love the original GameCube version.
I just rushed through it in the weekend and I remember everything even after not playing for 10 years. Still hold up very well 15 years later.
*slaps knee*
*punches wall*
“FUCK, that’s how you open a game”
I first played this game on ps2 when I was really young and could never get past the village. That intro has to be one of the most iconic and terrifying sequences in all of gaming to me. And finally beating it as an adult felt weird. I hadn’t ever finished it until last year.
i'm in the same boat regarding silent hill 2 also on ps2 except that i'm adult now and i still can't bring myself to play that game very far :/
I beat both silent hill 2 and resident evil 4 last year for the first time after starting them both many times as a kid. Surreal.
Such a relatable story. The shock factor of this game was 🤌🏼
My favorite moment in the game was me shitting myself at the first encounter with the Regenerator.
Who can forget that comment👀
Amazing.
Never played a resident evil game...but seeing Jake being so enthusiastic about them makes me really want to play them
I hadn't before 4 either, but it made me a fan. Its on every console, and you can get it for $5 on sale. Check it out
I started with 2 and 3 remakes they are great games especially 2 has amazing atmosphere. Then played 7 now really looking forward to 8
they're good. RE2 remake especially. RE7 was also amazing but a bit short
Definitely play the RE and RE2 remakes
Honestly the series is great even in its ups and downs. It's like pizza for me when it's bad it's good when it's good its damn good.
I didn't play resident evil 4 till 2020 and despite it being such an old game it became my favorite game ever. After an adjustment period of getting used to the weird aiming system the game completely engrossed me, and it strikes the perfect balance of fun but not being easy. I think that's partly to do with how hard it is to aim in the game. It really is perfect without meaning to be
Played it on every platform. Can’t help myself. It hits every checkmark for me. RE4 is the perfect video game.
Yes Sir.
Now imagine a remake. NUT
@@blitheixgaming1289 your wish has been granted
@@allijah7478 NUTTT
@@blitheixgaming1289 Now there is gameplay
Yeah that opening 20ish minutes is unbelievable. To this day still gives me goosebumps.
My favorite part of resident evil 4 was encountering Ada for the first time and the krauser knife fight was just an amazing moment
Leeeoon!!!
Omg that voice haunts my dreams
Oh my favorite RE4 moment is probably either the El Gigante fight or the boss battle with Chief Mendez in the barn.
I absolutely loved the fight with chief Mendez. I still remember how intense that fight felt when I first played through it and even though I’ve played through the game like 10-15 times all the way through I still get a little nervous during that boss fight lol. Also the one against salazar’s right hand scares me lol I always just buy a rocket launcher right before so I can just one shot him lol
Best weapons in RE games... unlocking the last perk for the weapons, is what kept me coming back.
This is slowly becoming one of my favorite UA-cam accounts, and i'm loving it!
Love 4 and it still holds up for me. Favorite moment is first meeting the Regenerator... TERRIFYING.
While I prefer the subtle, more horror aspects of the series, I do enjoy the over the top craziness that started with 4 that “ended” with 6. Took me years to beat 6 and when I did I didn’t hate it. It’s just so silly haha
It’s 2022 now, and having played literally every version of the game, I can and will safely say this game is still amazing
My favourite moment of the game was when I first got to that room in the castle with the 2 Wolverine dudes and I had barely any ammo left and I was genuinely exhausted and frightened.
The president seeing this in his recommended like:
Thanks Mr.President how’s SBR race going?
“Jill, there’s a zombie apocalypse. ALERT THE PRESS!” 🤤
Picked up a PS2 copy of this a while back and it's been my game of choice any time I get a chance to play something. Once you get past that first encounter in the village, everything about the game clicks and it gets near impossible to put down. Pretty quickly earned a spot amongst my favorite games of all time!
“Village is taking some of the elements, but I don’t know how far it will go” ohh boy, just wait
Funny you should make this video, I just finished a RE4 playthrough recently. This game has aged like a fine wine
it really has
Completed it multiple times years ago. Today I just finished killing that lake monster which was annoying but so far its really hard to make a complaint about this game because its so good and now here I am leon wakes up and the heavy rain and thunderstorm is just mesmerizing. I'm just standing there watching the skies and walking around pretending to get wet lol.
Resident Evil 4 is a game I have to replay almost every year. The lake fight against the giant fish monster is definitely my favorite, it's soooo goofy
My favorite video game of all time! So influential. So many games owe so much to this game. Gears, Dead Space, The Last of Us, etc.
I remember when RE4 came out, I was working at a GameStop with a display GameCube. I played the entire game while on shift, hiding a memory card in the ceiling so nobody could find and sell my data. Among my favorite videogame memories ever.
Good call on this video. I just played through this again a couple of months ago. I remember getting this on PS2 in October 2005 and not knowing what to expect. The cabin scene really stood out to me. Crossing that bridge and being trapped in the cabin was awesome! I think my favorite part of the game is the woods/village portion. The atmosphere and suspense is perfect!
My favorite part of Resident Evil 4 was when I no longer had to babysit Ashley
So when you play as Ashley? Because you babysit her on and off throughout the end of the game.
she was efficient. you told her to hide or wait and she would obey.
sheva in the other hand... yikes.
I played all the resi games all in a row recently and RE:4 always stands out for me as being so much fun and such a refreshing take
RE4 still holds up today as a great and solid game, even the graphics are really damn good for when the game was made, it doesn't really need a remake, seriously. What need a remake indeed is Code Veronica.
That would be awesome. CV was so creepy and weird. Loved it
Fun fact, the villagers say " catch him" in spanish, the word being "cojedlo", but this is the way of meaning it in the european variant of Spanish (the spanish spoken in Spain). Cojedlo in latin american Spanish means "fuck him", so i guess even rural villagers have good taste since this version of Leon is a snacc.
I grew up in a Christian household in Puerto Rico. All the cursing from the villagers got me into quite a bit of trouble
Thought they said" im going to turn you into ground meat " Spanish... picadio?
@@LIMPstick420 bocadillo... Yeah there s another sentence about that
"Detras de ti, imbesil" translates to "I'm behind you, imbecile". They only say that when they're behind you lol
@@oc6441 the word the other user means is probably 'picadillo' which would be the closest translation of 'ground beef'.
I also loved the costumes and extra weapons you got after several playthroughs. Oh! And the fact that you could kill Salazar with a single missile shot, good stuff
I’ve played through this probably 20-25 times. Never gets old.
The knife fight with Krauser is my favorite part. Surviving in that house with Luis and Ashley comes in close second.
And I'll never forget the first time I got killed by the chainsaw guy in the village. That was the coolest thing I'd ever experienced in a game at the time.
Good stuff man, been replaying all the mainline games and RE4 is still the best. A true masterpiece and my favorite game of all time!!! And for anybody that says it's not survival horror has obviously never been chased down by Dr. Salvador and a mob of ganodos on professional mode. That game is the most nerve racking experience in all of gaming constant in your face pressure and anxiety in all the best ways!!!
Everytime someone makes a video about Resident Evil 4, i always find out so much passion and love for the game. Always makes me happy. Subbing to you!
My favorite part was the moment Leon throws a knife to stick Salazar's hand to the wall and his reaction.
I had to have my sister buy this game for me because I was 12 or 13, but this game introduced me to resident evil. The graphics were amazing at the time and I needed this game.
I loved watching this video Jake, because you captured everything I have felt about this game over the years. That giddy excitement is exactly what I feel.
I think this is the perfect resident evil game. The balance between action and "o my god he's getting too close SHOOT HIM!!!" and a scary, freaky atmosphere.
Also all the little things. Shooting the lake so the monster just pops up and kills you. Getting the knight suit outfit for Ashley, the gangster outfit for Leon, the unlimited ammo tommy gun!
Your excitement about games is genuinely awesome, dude. Love it every time.
I just hopped on the resident evil train after resident evil 7, it hooked me and when my college shut down because of the VID I decided to go through and play through all the RE games, played the first and instantly fell in love with it. 2 & 3 were good too but 4 was the game that caught me and became my favorite game of all time. I couldn’t get in to 5 or 6 but upon just beating village, I can still say that RE4 is my favorite 100%.
Very appropriate this pops up in my feed after today.
Super hyped for the Remake but I’m still tempted to give the original a play through for, if nothing else, just to do it because of it’s reputation.
Hey man, I just joined your channel, been watching your gameranx stuff for a while now and as I'm going through your vids I saw this one. 4 is so amazing. I get those same goosebumps talking about this with people. That opening of 4 was so fucking awesome, the first time I experienced that was something special for sure. As far as the remake, i'll take it, any chance to experience it in a new light i am all for. Will it meet expectations, probably not. I dont care. I just want to experience it again!
Maan this brings back memories. I remember getting the demo disc of the beginning of the game up until the first village fight, and I had to have played it over 100 times.
There used to be a demo of RE4 on gamecube. I remember my good friend and I playing that demo for hours on end. It was basically the first part of the game up until the title card.
Let me tell you, when I played the game for the first time, I thought I was ready for that part, but the devs changed the level design a bit from the demo and the strats I had spent hours working on were not working anymore.
What a great game.
This was my first resident evil game I played. My uncle bought it for me for like my 10th birthday and I shit myself.
I absolutely love this game
It is rare to see someone who has so much passion about a game series.
Then those that aren't passionate about one just aren't gamers.
As much as I love 4, I just wanna see a Code Veronica Remake 😩
I think code veronica and zero could work really well in the style of re2/3 remake
Definitely. It doesn't get nearly the love it deserves, and technically, now that we got remakes of 2 and 3, it's next in line. I'm gonna be really bummed if we don't get it before 4. It was not the first RE game I played, but it was the first I beat 100%, and I still have a ton of nostalgia for it.
Code Veronica is the only game in the mainline series I’ve ever played. I’m REALLY hoping it gets the next remake treatment.
Regenerador is hands down the creepiest thing in gaming. The design, its abilities, how tricky it is to finally kill, the lore behind it, the sound effects! The music! Best all-around RE monster (that isn’t a boss)
It wasn't until playing this game that I realized brown could be so beautiful!
great video re 4 is still one of my favorite video games of all time played through so many times growing up and the game is still so interesting
dude you nailed it on the goosebump-inducing opening of this game. takes me back to playing it in my friend's parents' basement as scared 15-year-olds.
never played a RE game, just love hearing jake talk about things passionately
Absolutely love your content man, I’m not even really interested in resident evil, never played one and doubt I will, at least not for a long while. Keep it up bro
Nice job, you made the holy grail of the UA-cam algorithm: your video showed up when I just searched “resident evil” with no further context out of boredom
wow, really? crazy
@@JakeBaldino It’s also apt because I just started RE4 for the first time ever last week! How serendipitous
RE4...man I had a projector that i hooked the Cube up too and feel into this rabbit hole. Incredible stuff. Salazaar was just out of control .Gamecube and Dreamcast are now almost mythical.
Look here jake....I need a PMI reunion video. You Erik and Mike. Make if happen. You guys were a huge part of my life when things were shit. I always had PMI Fridays to just chill and relax and have a few laughs!
I recently replayed re4 and it's probably my favorite resident evil. And my favorite part was just the whole village section keep up the good work👍😁 also first time meeting with the merchant damn son good memories
Just finished playing it. 2005, that is completely insane! Masterpiece
I got into Resident Evil by playing the remake of 2 back in October 2020 and just finished this one! Amazing game, so much more fun than a lot of modern games. Just an incredible experience
I love this franchise. Of course, I understand people like consistency with the things they love, but I’ve always appreciated how crazy these games are. I watched my older brother play them growing up (especially 4). Ever since the RE2 remake came out I’ve been getting back into them and I love em. The direction they’ve taken the franchise has never been predictable. Yeah it can feel inconsistent, but I find so much charm in these games regardless. I’m so excited for Village.
This is the first Resident Evil game where Umbrella isn't responsible for the monsters and bio organic weapons (BOW) creations. Umbrella is gone by this point, and may yet come back.
The Matilda handgun was named after the character with the same name from the movie Léon: The Professional (1994), which also had a main character called Leon.
This Resident Evil used all new enemies that were not in any of the previous games. No zombies, no Cerberus, no crows, no giant spiders, no tyrants, no hunters, no lickers made it to this installment.
This is the first Resident Evil presented in 16:9 widescreen. All previous entries were displayed in 4:3 fullscreen. This is why when the game is played on an 4:3 television it appears to be letterboxed.
The gameplay was changed after Mikami realized that many of the game designers were tired of the same formula used in other Resident Evil games.
The cult name Los Illuminados translates to "The Enlighted" in English.
The parasites, Las Plagas, translates to "the plagues" in English.
During the end boss battle, Ada Wong suddenly appears and throws a special rocket launcher that can be used to kill the boss. The same thing happens at the end of Resident Evil 2 (1998).
Albert Wesker, long-time nemesis in the Resident Evil series, is only mentioned in the main game as the mastermind behind Krauser's and Ada's involvement in obtaining a Las Plagas sample. He makes a visual appearance in the 'Separate Ways' side-missions, though.
When Ada and Leon meet up in Salazar's quarters, Ada sneaks up from behind and (after a brief fight) tells him: "Long time no see". Albert Wesker says the same thing when he approaches Chris Redfield from behind in Resident Evil: Code: Veronica (2000).
Those infected and controlled by Las Plagas are called Ganados. In Spanish, "ganado" means "cattle" or "livestock". However, it is rarely used in the plural (except as a form of the verb "ganar", which means "to win" or "to earn").
The original GameCube version contains a unique glitch where sometimes after reopening a save file, Leon will move sideways instead of forward. If you reset the game and reopen the save file though, Leon will walk straight again. Another glitch caused Leon to move much faster than normal, making shooting and slicing a knife much easier.
During any cutscene in which Leon draws his weapon it will always be the handgun that you start the game with that he draws, even if you've sold it and bought a different one.
The Killer 7 handgun was named after Killer7 (2005), another Capcom game produced by Shinji Mikami. This is the only weapon in the game not to feature an exclusive upgrade.
In addition to the Mathilda, the game pays home to the movie Léon: The Professional (1994) in an unlockable "Professional" difficulty.
After playing village and LOVING it, I’m diving into re4. Will update when I complete it. Started with 7, loved re2 remake. Completed village and have re3 to play also. BUZZING. It’s cool to hear you chatting away about stuff 👌🏻
I definitely remember the days and weeks before RE4, I was scared to play it because of the chainsaw guy. Then I thought I was facing my fears by playing it until I got introduced to the invisible bug and the super scary pointy/twitchy monster in the garbage disposal area. My god!
I really hope we get to see another Outbreak though. It’s the perfect 2-4 player coop game, different scenarios, different unique characters, limited storage that forces you to communicate with your teammates, solving puzzles and fighting zombies and getting infected. Such a great idea that was waaay ahead of it time.
Resident Evil 4 on Quest 2 is going to be bananas, I am not prepared for the regenerators
i played RE7 when it came to game pass & nvr realized what i missing out on. watched RE8 & bought RE4 after hearing so much hype about it being the best one in the entire series. i got it on sale for $7.99 about a week ago after i watched this video & now i'm coming back to rewatch it to see how accurate u were (which was very btw lol). definitely one of the best games i've ever played, jus watching the people transform into huge beasts was mind blowing 😹😹 i'm gonna get RE8 soon & then RE1 !!
I've never been a huge fan of this franchise, but I absolutely loved Resident Evil 4 as a kid! It has such a unique setting and a very cool vibe. The ghost myths made everything much more exciting to me. Can't wait for the remake for this one :D
So hyped for the VR version of RE4 announced for the Oculus Quest 2. Gonna be fun. I loved it on GameCube and on ps2 for the Ada missions
Thank you so much for doing this!!!! Im currently playing RE4 and now i can understand the HYPE
My absolute favourite moment of RE4 are the wolves. I hate them so much. Before the baby in RE8, they were the most scared I had been in an RE game. I’ve asked other people and they don’t find them nearly as scary as I do but when I first encountered them on my way back to the graveyard and castle all I had was rifle ammo and in the distance I could see their eyes just their eyes glowing, so I scoped in (which was also terrifying with their slobbering mouths wide with sharp teeth) and shot one of them. And then they all came running down the ramp and all I had was the rifle and I didn’t think to pull out my knife and they just kept jumping on me and biting me and I hated it I hated it and I didn’t play the game for a week after that.
AND THEN at the maze section where all the wolves are locked in the cages I could see them and thought, being the genius I am, I could shoot a grenade with the grenade launcher to kill them all. I shot it and it ONLY broke the lock, setting them all free and it was terrifying, I was always on edge wondering if I had killed the last one and I hated it. With that said though RE 4 is a 10/10 game, it was my favourite in the series before 8 (I love 8 it’s incredible)
Man I didn't realize you had you own seperate channel....got my sub! Looking forward to all your content!
My all time fav game. Ive beat this game at least 200 times over multiple generations. An absolute masterpiece
One of them titles you read and instantly click 💯 lol
thank you Kyle!

Love the videos Jake, you should post more Game play tho 🤞
Love your content Jake.
I would love to hear your resident evil ranking Jake
Just replayed it for like the 50th time, this time I bought and played it on switch tho. Still awesome and still one of my favorite games ever.
Instead of a Resident Evil 4 remake, I would like to see a "Resident Evil 4 - Part 2". Perhaps a prequel or equal that shares the same tone, atmosphere and art direction but has better graphics, character models etc.
Yooo appreciate your videos Jake!!
Honestly RE4 to me a Gem i can play anytime. I want RE8 finally got a pc so im EXCITED!!
i just played through re4 for the first time a week or two ago and i made sure to enjoy every second because i can only experience this masterpiece for the first time once
God, your videos are so good! Like, these are the kind of videos I want to make
I played through it again recently on PS4 after playing it over and over again on the GameCube back in the day, and it still ticks all the right boxes for me.
The giant dude chasing you was lit 🔥 🤌 (Zalizar in the palace)
As a kid my favorite scenes were tied between the dog saving you from el gigante after you saved it and when the big cheese chokes you once you go through the door amd Ada shoots him... but I think now more than ever, it’s when you and Luis were taking down the villagers in the house
Love Resident Evil 4 👍 can't wait to try Resident Evil Village!
Every time I play this game again, I always chuckle that the President sent only ONE dude to save his daughter and not a whole SEAL team
Once again Mike's valiant sacrifice is forgotten
I played through this game about ten times man. I had it on the Wii and just lost myself in this shit for days. Loved it
Wow it’s amazing how many videos I’ve seen of people playing RE4 in 2021 since I played it for the first time and finished it like two days ago. Honestly it still stands up, and given the design philosophy and how the RE3 remake went, I don’t really want it to be remade. You gonna take away Leon’s wrestling moves Capcom??? Over my dead, Las Plagas infected body!
I was 11 when this and God of War released. I got them both at the game time and it was a mega fun time for young me. I remember experiencing the QTEs and being blown away.
I JUST played through for the first time last week. I'm kicking myself that I didn't play it sooner!
Some people might say nostalgia, but i played this game for the first time ever couple of years ago and was blown away by how well it holds up and is still worth playing.
The merchant is who they need to bring back if they remake it. That ACCENT AND EPICNESS: "Got a selection of GOOD things on sale, Stranguhh!!" "Stranger.. STRANGERRRR... now THAT'S a weapon!!" lolol
I dont remember them pulling off a scenario quite the same way they did when you had to survive the Ganado onslaught in the cabin. That shit was scary
And the chainsaw man
I played RE4 for the first time last year and it is my favorite RE game. It’s remarkable how fun and goofy it is while keeping some spook to it. The controls aren’t great, but it helps keep you on your toes and adds some suspense lol
Just finished it for the first time 3 days ago! Somehow the only RESI title I've never played. Loved it, and so ready for Village.
That's my secret. I never stopped playing Resident Evil 4. Literally picked up Village and was a beast in it instantly, with the dozens of playthroughs I've clocked in 4.
I just played it for the first time earlier this year. Kinda excited for the Quest port!
Honestly man I am a big fan of this franchise, but RE4 is my all time Favorite game. I just can't get enough of it just like you said the vibe the cinematography, action story every fucking thing in this game is magical, especially the treasure hind (hidden treasures) are great to find and selling them to the merchant give a great satisfaction.
I’ve beaten 2, 3, and 4 in the last few weeks…4 being the only one I’ve actually beaten, but like 15 years ago.
It absolutely still holds up, I think it can definitely benefit from some updated controls and QOL stuff, but I had a blast playing through it again.
With RE going further from its roots, I think it’s great because it gives each game its own identity.
I’m almost done with 5 right now and at first I thought it was boring, and then once you get into the actual story, I started really enjoying it.
We’ll see about 6, everyone seems to shit on it, so I have low expectations lol.
