I played it through once, ONCE. And it was a SLOG. I kept asking myself "WHEN will it be over?" I stuck it out and finished it and the only satisfaction I had was that it was finally over. If you felt RE5 was Michael Bay, then RE6 is Michael Bay on steroids! Recently, I went back to try and play it again, and I just couldn't even finish Leon's campaign. I never even got out of the first building. QTEs are abused beyond anything that RE5 or RE4 did. And slogging through and replaying various areas where each story melds in with the others was just awful. The stories dragged on, and in the end, I still felt like "What was that? THAT wasn't RE at all!" Resident Evil Revelations for me was the exact same way. "When will it be over". Revelations 2 I enjoyed much better, but the episodic platform for both just ripped me out of the game as it interrupted the flow of the game. RE6 is Call of Duty with "zombies". Once again, great content!
Try the Mercs mode, that's the real meat and potatoes of the game and where the gameplay truly shines. You're not using even half the fancy and technical moves in your playthrough for which I don't blame you; the gameplay and level design are atrociously at odds with each other until you jump into mercs where the maps are optimized for maximum player control. The closest thing to a John Wick game if you play it right.
@@shaquiberaihan6212 I'm not into Mercenaries at all. I have played it a few times throughout all the different RE games and I just don't enjoy it. I hate "timed" or "score-based" events like that. I play RE for the exploration, puzzle solving and the story itself, not some "Call of Duty" type of game. Not crapping on those that like Mercs, but I'm a single -player person. I don't like co-op, and I like to play at my own pace. RE6 is the worst of all the mainline RE games for me and for many. It's NOT Resident Evil. It's Call of Duty with zombies in it. That was the crowd they were catering to and Capcom all but admitted to it. Call of Duty was the big thing when this was released and that's why it is the way it is. In the end, Mayo gives multiple concrete and specific reasons why he didn't like this game, and they completely match up with my assessment when I played this game many years ago. I forced myself to finish it, as stated in my OP, because I'm just a completionist. There have only been very few games that I refused to complete because they were so bad IMHO. But, it took me forever to complete this game and it felt like it. It's all action and and it's non-stop. It's draining and gets old. And the QTEs are abused beyond anything I've seen since. Thank GOD Capcom listened when they release RE 7. Even RE Village has some QTEs but they're not as prevelant and abused as they are in RE6. Also, RE 6's UI is confusing and changing it from character to character just makes you have to learn the UI all over again. It's a mess. I get they were trying, at least in Leon's case, to go with an iPhone type interface with the icons, but it's confusing and even for game and system settings, items are buried in so deep and hard to find that it's just bad UI design.
The Simmons/Ada/Carla triangle is the finest piece of writing in human history. Ada rejects Simmons, which prompts him into attempting to turn other women into a perfect clone of Ada. After 10,000+ tries, he finally succeeds on his assistant Carla. Carla is so infuriated about being turned into an asian, that she decides to destroy the world, starting with China. Brilliant. The shittalk between Chris and Carla is also hilarious.
yes, i played when it came out and though it was shit, then years later played coop with a friend that had never played it, the game still shit, but we goofed so much and it was completely worth it
It’s not even fun to play with your brain turned off, I was so fucking bored. Now RE5 I can have that kinda dumb fun and laughs with, but 6 is just trash. There’s a reason they went back to their roots after 6.
His points aren't wrong though😂 It was a chore for me to even finish leon's campaign back in the day. I tried everyone else's campaign for an hour. I finally had to put the game down. It was too boring for me.
@@nessadvantage9447that’s the reason the game is good it’s slow but long so you can never get bored because if you just replay like a 2 hour game it gets kind of boring but 14 hours is just fun
People will defend this game by saying it's a fun crazy action game but then you play it and half the game is walking through hallways and opening doors with your partner, or having the game force your camera to look at a distant explosion
@@onceyougozach2607if you think about the game being criticized for having too much action then I don't know if you played the game or tried to turn on your brain from the distance
I played through Re6 a couple of times. It's okay. My main gripe with the game were the bosses. Debra is an okay boss, she had weak points to shoot. But every other boss in the game just felt like you were ahooting them till the game told you you were done.
Agree, when i played singleplayer, it was baaad, but years later, played it with a friend on drunk saturday nights, and we were having a blast, not because of the game itself, but it was one of those "so bad that its good" situations, since on coop, you dont take the games plot seriously
I love this game. This was just over-the-top, goofy fun. I played with my best friend and little sister when it was released. We were laughing mostly throughout the whole game. I also love it because it continued the journey with our beloved RE characters. Also, another reason why I love the CGI animated movies. Our beloved OG RE characters on their journeys. I have been playing since OG RE 2; I love this universe so much!
Interesting how you comment about re 6’s combat while never showcasing you doing the dodges, parries and repositioning using the crawling movements. I think re6 provided the mechanics for a super high ceiling movement based combat gameplay. The movement was also what got me through professional mode (couldn’t beat no hope because it limits your stamina to 5). I surly love your reviews, and I agree with pretty much all the points you made in this video, but to not address the phenomenal movement system in this game was a missed opportunity to say the least.
The game was too annoying to play with that stuff. I just wanted to stop. I'm sure it has plenty of cool stuff. But this isn't an in-depth review series. It's the everyone told me to play series and it's more freeform impression.
@@underthemayo I see I am a relatively new subscriber and did not realize you categorized videos in different ways. After all, if you don’t find the game fun, it’s not a fun game for you. I can respect that.
@@emptyblank099a That is not necessarily an issue. Titanfall/apex is perfectly playable and competitive without source engine based movement, but the ceiling is higher thanks to source based movement.
It's a very sad game to play alone... but lots of fun with a partner! The combat system is awesome. I either engage with knife/melee combat with Chris, do quickscopes with Piers - you can toggle the camera to the other shoulder back and forth and it cancels the animations of snipers, shotguns and magnums, so you unload them very quickly for massive dps - Helena's shoot-dodging the sawed-off shotgun, Ada's crossbow backflip shot, and dodging overall is fast-paced and flows well: we don't have i-frames, so we have to time it right. Even having Jake trade blows with the Ustanak feels nice. Same as RE5, you can/must open your inventory and combine whatever needs to be combined in-between animations, so you climb up a ladder, combine ammo with its respective weapon, and you come up ready to go full clip. Even nowadays, you can find people playing it online, so we can grind through those poor action and stealth sequences. I love Chris' 2nd/Jake's 1st chapter so much, the winter guerrilla warfare atmosphere feels good. It's not just nostalgia, I've beat 5 and 6 again in split-screen co-op with my brother just a couple of years ago, it was fun =)
I played this with a friend knowing what to expect and it was a blast, specially the Ada campaign that is not supposed to be multiplayer, so your ally respawn at your side everytime some wacky shit happened
Ah yes, I remember playing this on 360 the year it came out and during the same week that my daughter was born. I love my daughter, but my brain has tied her birth to RE6 to this day so obviously had no option but to leave her on a church doorstep. RE6 ruined both our lives. 2/10
What I love about RE 5 and why it’s my 4th best Resident Evil game in the entire franchise is because of the journey Chris Redfield went on. The game’s story basically shows that he and Jill both found the people that they set out to find and put an end to after all the suffering that those people put them, their comrades, and so many city folk through. Finding the actual Oswald E. Spencer in his mansion was the actual endgame for both Chris and Jill because Spencer was THE Umbrella Corporation and all of it’s monsters, and they had to arrest or kill him for all the crimes he and Umbrella committed. Wesker also wanted Spencer for his own reasons and he happened to confront Chris and Jill, and after that we all know what happened. Chris and Jill had grown as characters up to that point, they went from scared and inexperienced with an infected, undead and BOW types, only to survive and become experienced with all of the horrors that Umbrella created. They even created and trained teams of other soldiers to be able to fight back against the viral experiments that Umbrella created, and we get to see and meet many of those other soldiers and trainees throughout other RE games in the franchise, with Chris crossing paths with Shiva who is one of them in RE 5. Since Wesker came out of the shadows and brought the beginning stages of his plan to fruition, Chris and Shiva uncovered some of those plans which led them to his whereabouts and it would be the very end of Chris Redfield’s journey to not only put an end to Spencer and Umbrella, but mainly Albert Wesker, the one man that has been a major threat looming all around him, his friends, allies, and family throughout the entire franchise history. That’s one of the main reasons why I love RE 5 so much, the gameplay, guns, graphics and soundtrack are just more awesome ingredients with it. As for RE 6, the story may be crazy all around, but it is so much fun to play, I don’t get bored at all whenever I decide to play it.
Sorry that you didn't liked it, but apprciate that you at least gave it a try. It's a personal fav. for me. While not my first resi game, this was the one that got me interested into the characters and the lore and finally giving the older titles like resident evil 1 remake and the original resident evil 2 and 3 a try and I love them
This game taught me the difference between a good gameplay and a good game design. In RE6, the gameplay is good, but the game design is awful, as there's a lot of shitty sequences throughout the campaigns. The only fun part for me was the Mercenaries mode.
This game was DEFINITELY - as you put it - "over the top fun while playing coop." I only played it coop and everything about it felt very... anime. Over the top, melodramatic even. I think we spent five minutes just action diving down some stairs because of how absurd it looked. But there's a thin line between "absurd" and "stupid," and if I had been playing it in singleplayer I think I would have felt the same way you do. Schlocky B-movies are a lot more fun to watch as a group and the same attitude applies to RE6 I think.
My friend convinced me to play through RE5 with him. We finished it, and as a co-op game, it's a blast. But I haven't touched it outside of that, as even while playing it I could tell that I would be bored to tears if I tried playing it in single player. I've never had any desire to play RE6, and it seems I'm pretty justified in that.
I strongly agree with how bad the guns felt, that was the big turn off for me. I had a hard time telling if I was actually hitting enemies, neither RE4 or RE5 had that issue.
There was a lot of bandwagon hate for RE5 & 6. Ironically those were my first intro to the series & the amount of times of replayed them was damn near criminal
I stayed away from RE6 since everyone told me it was trash. I played it after I stumbled upon Lambhoot’s video about RE6 and oh boy it was a BLAST to play.
For its faults, I actually did enjoy RE5 and RE6. I'd rather they stayed more horror than actions, but after you shut your brain off and start pulling the combos, the games are pretty fun EDIT: Also, hot women.
"RE5 was like RE4 without the horror" So like RE4? The Island section of that game was basically dumb blockbuster city. It's a section RE4 fans don't like talking about much like the Jedi and the story of Darth Plagueis. I do think RE6 is the most mechanically accomplished RE even if the overall structure and game design is a mess. An RE game without contextual dodging is a game I welcome after all since Capcom has a hard on for contextual dodge commands. I don't think RE6 is a good or bad game, it's middle of the road then again, on the internet you either love or hate a game since emotion gets you views.
8:29 Well, back when the E3 RE5 trailer came out, fans were excited and speculating that the girl in the tube that opens her eyes at the very end was Sherry. So, many people did want to see her back. Personally, I would have liked to see her as a scientist, like her parents, and not like yet another generic badass soldier.
I'm sad to hear that you didn't enjoy the game. I understand your issues about the campaigns, which are focused on mindless action and QTEs. However, I'd like to suggest trying out the Mercenaries mode, especially on "No Mercy". This game mode can truly push you in the "FUN ZONE" as it requires you to utilize all your weapons, engage in melee attacks, move fast and more. ( I played more than 400 hours only in this gamemode) What makes the Mercenaries mode particularly enjoyable is the variety of strategies you can employ for each type of enemy you encounter. This dynamic aspect adds depth to the gameplay, offering a fresh and engaging experience that differs from the main campaigns. Give it a try please and you might discover a whole new level of experience in the game. (and remember to change the FOV, there is an option in the settings menu)
Oh God, I remember playing this on Xbox co-op with a friend of mine. We went through all the campaigns, on the highest difficulty. And it was so bad. When we finished it, we never played it again. They crammed so much into the game, going for quantity over quality here. And it showed. I hope that if Capcom decides to remake 5 and 6, they do a complete overhaul.
It's hard to appreciate RE6's revolutionary new control system when you're too busy QTE'ing a jet hitting the ground or jumping off the top of skyscrapers on motorcycles, falling 50 stories, and somehow landing on both wheels totally fine.
I was one of the seemingly few RE fans who liked RE6 a lot. I still think it's a great game, although the biggest "issue" people had with it I can agree with which is the fact that it's just not a scary, survival horror game. There are many other aspects that I found worked for the game well, like character control and maneuverability, which I saw many criticize. I enjoyed coming back to the same sections as different characters too because the feeling of being in the other characters' shoes worked for me. It didn't feel exactly like repeating the same thing over, even if that was what it was. Then there was the part where the game would take control away from you to show you something, but I found it to be a negligible issue. I played it a lot when it came out on 360, going through it on normal with every character, then on professional with every character, and then some. Then I went through on normal just once with all the characters when it came out on PS4. That all said, I am kind of glad it failed with fans because we probably wouldn't have gotten RE7, which is probably my second favorite RE, but that's hard to say. The only mainline RE game I didn't care for was Resident Evil Zero, but honestly, I wasn't enthralled with the recent RE2/3 remakes and liked but was disappointed with Village and RE4 Remake.
Unfortunately, all RE6 campaigns are a weak part of the game because of the mess in terms of stylistics and pace. The "Mercenaries" mode and its complicated version called "No Mercy", as for me, reveal it from the best side, forcing you to use the opportunities in the game to survive and feel like John Wick in a zombie apocalypse.
I couch cooped RE 5 a lot with my friends back in the day. And while we all agreed that this isn't a real a RE game we still had a blast with it. We embraced the silliness and the over the top action in the RE universe and just went with it like we were playing Gears Of War or something. Ah the good old couch coop days.
@@aaaaaaa-so8op Yeah it´s not very long, that´s true. But it´s fun to to replay it with the ranks system and weapons and costumes and other stuff to unlock. It´s not meant to just playing it once.
Honestly RE Revelations 1&2 should have been RE6, those games are really underrated and quite impressive considering it was originally on the 3DS now ported over to modern consoles and pc
Common fellas, let's start a fundraiser and see him suffer the whole game. Also make a rule that Mayo restarts at each deep exhale of existencial crisis and mind depravity this game offers. Oh the joy
ppl dont even understand the ambitious small features for 3rd person shooting in RE6.. i always hated cover system in games like gears of war but RE6 has perfect soft lock cover mechanics where you cna aim and just move up to cover wile holding the aim button and the character transitions very well then your aim control automatically tracks around the edges of the cover and as soon as you let go of the aim button you aren't stuck to the cover anymore and have very good control using it fluidly with regular jittery strafe style gameplay the second shooting mechanic i find is pretty major and impressive to me is the backwards lunge then aiming wile on your back lets you avoid boss attacks or numerous enemies surprising you and you can either squeeze in last second shots if time is a factor or help an ally wile needing to protect yourself or roll to safety.. even the rolling around feels responsive like a satisfying move from die hard or a Jon Wu action movie
@@D_Vice88 Resident Evil 6 has great controls and terrible level design. If they managed to stick that gameplay into something closer to the Resident Evil 6 world, you’d have an action-adventure masterpiece
Im not saying this game is amazing but its not terrible either. Doesnt help that you just dove in head first on Veteran difficulty with no understanding of the gameplay mechanics. These games are designed for new game plus runs on higher difficulties and or brand new playthroughs only when you've already mastered the game for speed running. RE4 Remake itself was jarring on hardcore for a first run. RE6 has a low skill floor, where you can get a basic understanding of what to do in a few hours but has a high skill ceiling where you can run through No Hope difficulty on a fresh save and win on skill alone. Also you have a problem with Ada? Really? Her voice actor, character, and dynamic with Leon is far better here than RE2make and ESPECIALLY RE4make. But its like you sarcastically said yourself "you didn't give it a chance."
There are two types of Under the Mayo videos 1. Is A well researched and indepth analysis 2. Complaining about a game that he didn't give enough chance While Resi 6 has it down sides (the controls, inventory and the camera can be messy for sure), the gameplay is quite enjoyable with a lot of various enemy types. Plus the story is one of the best of the series imo, along with the voice acting. It's also such an interesting thing to see events from at least 2 different perspectives. Jake and Sherry's arc is my favourite of the bunch with a lot of great dialogue.
10:22 Thank you though glad you like the actual deep projects. Though I hope have gone in pretty deep on negative analysis pieces for games I gave dozens of hours to. And I think these short pieces on other games on a more surface level are fun to do. They're casual, I don't have to take it so serious. And if you disagree you can just laugh it off cause it's more for entertainment than anything else.
@underthemayo Ah okay, I get you. Your Resi 3 remake video though was a great one. But if you want some fun, but also informative videos about RE6, I'd recommend u TheGamingBritSh@w's video or the one from Purposeless Rabbith@les (Re6 vs Re7)
I found value in RE6 in just playing with a friend and goofing around spamming voice lines. It's very cheap now so I personally would recommend it to someone for that purpose though that part in Jakes campagin with the icy slope gave me ptsd for ice levels
At the time, I liked it a lot. It was way better than RE:5. I hated RE:5 because my A.I. partner Sheva would always get herself killed, forcing me to restart the last checkpoint.
I can remember on the realese date on 360 how my AI partner refused to listen to 90% of my commands and got me killed many times because of that. Some few year later I played with a friend in co-op it was okay. When it comes to the story I didn't care about any new none playable characters at all.
You all heard that right? Let's get a kickstarter for 2k. I want to see Mayo suffer like I had to. See he THINKS 2k is enough but I still regret playing this for five.
I dont care what anyone says... i had a lot of fun playing this game. I loved it. That being said... its not a good "resident evil" game by far. But if you allow yourself to open up to it, its still good entertainment.
It's a fun and the most mechanically complex game in the series, but it also has so much bullshit that makes it hard to stick around it and learn it. I remember loathing the game in 2012. Not because it's not survival horror, because 1, RE has not been a traditional survival horror for 8 years then, and 2, the whole "survival horror" and "action horror" or whatever other debates are tiresome and mostly illogical. No, my issues were the controls, camera, abundance of QTEs, etc. But I decided to revisit the game a couple if years later and actially enjoyed it. Since then, I had no problems with the game. There are still obnoxious designs, but at the same time the gameplay can be addicting thanks to the versatility of mechanics and character mobility.
I played through this game, twice, many years apart, once with my brother, and once with my wife. My brother and I had fun laughing and goofing off and made it through quickly. Playing with my wife, she felt like the war-type levels were awful. She preferred the sneaking and slow missions. Her conclusion is that RE: Revelations was just way better.
My conclusion is it was worth knowing about and understanding for greater context, but several parts were painfully bad. Dying and being stuck in a loop.
Ok, so last time I was here, I just made a short comment saying to try this game out with a controller and nothing more. Now I’m gonna explain why I think this is a good game, and why this game deserves to be called a Resident Evil game. The problem with RE6 is that it never gave you a proper tutorial that explains the mechanics and how they work, or came with a training mode that allowed you to experiment and discover the mechanics yourself. Because once you look into how the mechanics work online and try them out yourself, RE6 becomes an insanely fun action shooter with some depth to its combat, that I’ve never seen put in any other third person shooter (Vanquish comes a little close). And I’m super glad that RE4make brought back some of RE6 mechanics, even giving Leon a handgun that was cut from RE6. The key to RE6s combat is to manage your stamina and to not stop moving. You can’t over rely on melee because your stamina will run out quick, so you have to mix up shooting and melee attacks. Laying on the ground can get your stamina back faster, you can swap between weapons with the D-pad to cancel animations, and each character actually plays differently from each other. Leon is the all rounder, and is the easiest character to understand, so I recommend starting with him, either in mercenaries or the campaign. And as for RE6 “not being an RE game”, RE has always been goofy and cheesy, even before RE4 came along. With characters doing quips, facing off against monsters with ridiculous scientific reasons behind their existence, ludicrous puzzles, a guy who’s blood lights on fire and can run on walls (Code Veronica), over the top heroes and villains, and characters surviving crap that would kill a normal human being. Even the RE 3D animated movies support this, with characters doing gun fu and Chris not getting paralyzed after being thrown against a wall. So yea, RE isn’t as scary as people make it out to be. If you want an actual scary survival horror game, play Silent Hill, pretty sure that franchise has better scares than Resident Evil ever has.
This game is amazing imo. The combats are wild, story was amazing, healing system is cool, and everything about is just good especially the mercenaries! 😊
The first time I saw re6, I was like "what the fuck? This is resident evil?" And my aunt who I watched play the og trilogy when they came out then skipped 4 and 5 came back to 6 and had the same reaction. She hasn't played any re games since.
Not playing as sherry means you miss out on an amazing plot hole. It’s revealed after a helicopter crash where she is impailed with a large chunk of metal that would totally kill any normal person…..that when jake removes it, she has fuckin wolverine like healing factor. Yet in spite of this she STILL NEEDS HEALING ITEMS?????? Fucking what? Oh ya massive chunk of jagged metal imbedded in her, no problem that will barely slow her down. A few little bullets or scratches though and she dies.
I liked RE5 and I still never played 6. Hell, I've "owned" 6 for 11 years, someone "loaned" it to me and never wanted it back, and I never even put it in my Xbox.
Still one of my favorite third person shooters. I have 300 hours on it making it my second most played RE game. Didn't click with me at first but once I got a hang of the controls it became really fun. Not perfect obviously though I wish it was. Wish they would have improved on the gameplay mechanics with a spin off that isn't revelations 2 or a completely new IP instead of completely abandoning it.
Exactly, the control is overcomplicated, but it gives almost complete control over the character and all possible John Wick with Max Payne movements. Unfortunately, in the main plot, this gameplay simply has nowhere to appear, while in the additional mode "Mercenaries" and "No Mercy" - the gameplay begins to surprise with its capabilities and performance even with a dozen opponents around.
@@Prorock23Rus That's why I like Chris's campaign the most. It has basically no QTE's and while it also suffers from having corridors it is the campaign with the most open spaces where you can actually use the mechanics. Also has the best story as it is mostly standalone.
@@TurnerTurnip Raid Mode in Revelations 2 is the best RE arcade mode bar none. The campaign sucks though. Also have 300 hours with Rev2 but it's 95% Raid Mode.
@@juicyyuuji4726 Ok. I never played Raid Mode. I just played the campaign. And it sure did suck. Especially the first one. Rev2 campaign was definitely better.
To be fair RE6 and RE5 won't happen if there was no RE4. I'm one of the minority that don't like RE4, the reason is (ironically) the same reason you said at 0:40 . It doesn't feel scary, there's no 'survive' urgency since item is plenty and you can always buy resource, and CQC just make it more feel easy coz I can just roundhouse entire mob when surrounded. RE4 is great game, but bad survival horror. Thankfully, there's still Evil Within, RE7, and bunch of indie titles that seemingly knows survival horror better than AAA devs
I honestly see RE as both a survival horror and action oriented franchise. The horror faction has RE0, RE1, RE2, RE3, RECV, and RE7. The action faction has RE4, RE5, and RE6. RE8 fits in somewhere between.
RE6 can be fun, but only now that we have good resident evil games. When it came out it was just sad. To this day i remember playing revelations 2 with a friend and saying: this is the best resident evil we had in years. Thank god for re2 remake and everything after, even 3 remake. Is short but its not even close to the really bad resident evil games.
"Beyond Horrible" "Must be seen to be believed" "Not so bad" "Underrated titel that is actually a Lot of Fun" Tbh *All of this and SO much more applies to "John Woo's RE6"* ... Yeah It's Crazy!
As others have said. Judging from your footage you never figured out the dodge/roll combat mechanic which is the number one reason people have so much fun with this game. It’s not surprising because the game doesn’t tell you and it requires 3 buttons to to trigger it. But once you get it, it’s a blast. I never played another game that worked like that and if this game wasn’t so bloated that mechanic would have been as revolutionary as max payne’s bullet time.
Mercenaries is this game's saving grace, since it's the one mode that allows the gameplay to actually work. That's it, really. Mercenaries is pretty much the only mode of the game I revisit every now and then, lol
I actually tried to play this piece of trash twice, once solo, once in couch coop. Couldn't stand it for longer than a couple hours both times. My friend hated it too. Cant wait to watch this video. EDIT: Haha, me and my friend quit the game on the same stupid giant monster fight that Mayo quit the 3rd campaign on as well. Truly an awful fight.
I played RE6 and enjoyed it enough despite the issues but it's one of those play once then never touch again kinda games for me personally. Leon campaign was my favorite though I remember.
Ada looks just like in re 4 what are you saying? I think i heard somewhere that she is mixed. They made her full asian only in remakes, which are not canon anyway.
@@underthemayo she doesnt look 100% asian in 4 to that regard either. She still have some asian traits in 6. I don't know maybe i'm somewhat race blind(i don't think that Kamala Harris looks black for example) but it's just my observation. Btw Jill doesn't look the same in re revelations either. It's a common thing for capcom to change character lools. Just look at Chris and how he evolved from just a guy, then anime(RE CV) and then Hulk.
never understood why people treat RE4 like god but berate RE5. To me, these games could not be any more similar to each other beyond the co-op. Some argue the co-op kills the horror. I'd argue the gameplay being so heavily focused on being a shooting gallery is what killed it. Something RE4 suffers greatly with even without having co-op. RE4-6 have about as much horror as a game of Call of Duty - bad guys show up over and over and you shoot them over and over Plus, RE4 is the game directly responsible for why games like RE5 & 6 exist.
@@GibramRivera-sy2nr RE4 & 5 pretty much felt like the same game to me. RE5 just had co-op. And I don't like RE4's campiness. I actually prefer when RE does take itself seriously with only the occasional humor. It can work. OG RE2 & RE3 did it pretty well for the time they came out. RE4's cheesiness was just trying too hard to act cool to the point of ruining the vibe. And there's more ingredients that go into making an RE game that RE4-6 all just heavily lack. It's more than just shooting things.
@@GibramRivera-sy2nr RE4 didn't really have backtracking and exploration like the other games. Where you're meant to go is made pretty obvious the majority of the time due to the linear nature of the environment design, there's no sense of inventory management, there's barely any puzzles, and the game is heavily focused on combat. It's not the same. The key elements to RE's game design are either non-existent or so heavily stripped down due to all the focus on the combat. And that's also what makes it similar to RE5. The two games couldn't be more similar in that regard. RE4 doesn't feel any less of a tryhard action game than RE5 does to me. Gameplay focused primarily on shooting? Check. Button prompt melee attacks and QTE sequences? Check. Action set pieces? Check. Severe downplaying of puzzles? Check. Linear environmental design? Check. No sense of horror? Check. RE4 & 5 have all of these things in common. They're both just bad Resident Evil games.
@@GibramRivera-sy2nr Also I think with the topic of what elements specifically have to be present in order to make an RE game that some folks have a very surface level understanding or thought process of them. Some people think so long as you have a house, you get to shoot a monster, or you pick up a key and use it on a door that this is enough to create the RE feel. There's a lot more to that.
@@GibramRivera-sy2nr I play RE games to have fun as well, but they deliver a very specific type of fun that later entries just do not offer because they do not understand the elements that go into making RE games fun to begin with. Modern games just don't deliver the same type of fun factor I got from older RE games because they have different priorities. And gatekeeping is not an inherently bad thing. It's not that black and white. It can be bad if it's too extreme, but fandoms and even game franchises can also turn to shit if there isn't some level of gatekeeping. Depends on the franchise in question. Some need it more than others.
"Everyone told me to play... Resident Evil 6" I would have told you not to! 🤣🤣 This is the only mainline resident evil (including veronica) that I didn't finish. I just played the demo lol
"The opening hour of Leon's campaign is a massive slog." - You literally took the words out of my mouth. I actually had fun with Chris' and Jake's campaigns, for what they were, but Leon's campaign honestly bored me at times, especially in the beginning sections. I felt like I had to force myself to boot up my 360 and continue playing. I get what they were trying to do with the "horror and anticipation of it" feel, but something about it just didn't land. Admittedly, there were some parts of his campaign I did like (I actually liked the church section), but overall, I can't see myself replaying that particular storyline again anytime soon.
I remember playing this with my girlfriend at the time and her first comment was “have you noticed how the 6 looks like a giraffe?” Never been able to unsee that years later xD
I misspoke saying you can't pause in single player. I meant that in regards to opening the inventory.

Btw, this game did stagger states way before Doom Eternal did.
MAYO. PLAY VALFARIS.

This game is like those movies that you watch with your buddies while drinking to laugh at
I played this with a friend knowing what to expect and it was a blast, specially the Ada campaign that is not supposed to be multiplayer, so your ally respawn at your side everytime some wacky shit happened

3:47, you can pause the game by tapping start but only for offline.
I grew up on the tank controls and hated them. The insane level of mobility in RE6 was quite welcome. Dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dual-wield!
Yeah, I also enjoyed the counter mechanic added in as well
I strongly agree with how bad the guns felt, that was the big turn off for me. I had a hard time telling if I was actually hitting enemies, neither RE4 or RE5 had that issue.
The thing that turned me of the most is that you have to
HAMMER THE BUTTONS AND WIGGLE THE STICKS
There was a lot of bandwagon hate for RE5 & 6. Ironically those were my first intro to the series & the amount of times of replayed them was damn near criminal
I stayed away from RE6 since everyone told me it was trash. I played it after I stumbled upon Lambhoot’s video about RE6 and oh boy it was a BLAST to play.
"mayo, you didn't give it a chance" "FUCK YOU IM OUT" hahahahahahaha
For its faults, I actually did enjoy RE5 and RE6.
I'd rather they stayed more horror than actions, but after you shut your brain off and start pulling the combos, the games are pretty fun
EDIT: Also, hot women.
"RE5 was like RE4 without the horror"
So like RE4? The Island section of that game was basically dumb blockbuster city. It's a section RE4 fans don't like talking about much like the Jedi and the story of Darth Plagueis.
I do think RE6 is the most mechanically accomplished RE even if the overall structure and game design is a mess. An RE game without contextual dodging is a game I welcome after all since Capcom has a hard on for contextual dodge commands.
I don't think RE6 is a good or bad game, it's middle of the road then again, on the internet you either love or hate a game since emotion gets you views.
The whole village section of the game has great horror in its ambience, its color, etc.

( I played more than 400 hours only in this gamemode)
What makes the Mercenaries mode particularly enjoyable is the variety of strategies you can employ for each type of enemy you encounter.
Ah the good old couch coop days.

ppl dont even understand the ambitious small features for 3rd person shooting in RE6.. i always hated cover system in games like gears of war but RE6 has perfect soft lock cover mechanics where you cna aim and just move up to cover wile holding the aim button and the character transitions very well then your aim control automatically tracks around the edges of the cover and as soon as you let go of the aim button you aren't stuck to the cover anymore and have very good control using it fluidly with regular jittery strafe style gameplay
the second shooting mechanic i find is pretty major and impressive to me is the backwards lunge then aiming wile on your back lets you avoid boss attacks or numerous enemies surprising you and you can either squeeze in last second shots if time is a factor or help an ally wile needing to protect yourself or roll to safety.. even the rolling around feels responsive like a satisfying move from die hard or a Jon Wu action movie

RE6 has the worst cover system of all time. It is absolute trash, just like the rest of the game.

While Resi 6 has it down sides (the controls, inventory and the camera can be messy for sure), the gameplay is quite enjoyable with a lot of various enemy types.
Plus the story is one of the best of the series imo, along with the voice acting. It's also such an interesting thing to see events from at least 2 different perspectives. Jake and Sherry's arc is my favourite of the bunch with a lot of great dialogue.

At the time, I liked it a lot. It was way better than RE:5. I hated RE:5 because my A.I. partner Sheva would always get herself killed, forcing me to restart the last checkpoint.

What a timing. I'm replaying RE6 right now 😅
It's a fun and the most mechanically complex game in the series, but it also has so much bullshit that makes it hard to stick around it and learn it.
Great video!

Best aunt ever. I think she would absolutely love re 1 hd remake.
Tell her to play RE4!
@@GungeonLover No
Yes, 1-3 Resident Evil .... 4-8 not Resident Evil
I’ve played through almost all the RE games, but I’ve tried staring this one multiple times and I can never get through the first 10 minutes.
I liked RE5 and I still never played 6. Hell, I've "owned" 6 for 11 years, someone "loaned" it to me and never wanted it back, and I never even put it in my Xbox.
Telling someone to play resident evil 6 should be considered a hate crime
And a genocide if they make a positive review of it
Just play Vanquish if you want a good action 3rd person shooter from japan
No
Play RE 6.
Telling someone to play RE0 is even worse
Somehow... I never even realized there was a RE6.
the best review i’ve seen on this game so far is by Nerrel, and now Mayos take is tagged along

I hated both RE: Revelations. What did you think of them?
@@TurnerTurnip Raid Mode in Revelations 2 is the best RE arcade mode bar none. The campaign sucks though. Also have 300 hours with Rev2 but it's 95% Raid Mode.
@@juicyyuuji4726 Ok. I never played Raid Mode. I just played the campaign. And it sure did suck. Especially the first one. Rev2 campaign was definitely better.
Nothing says survival horror like slamming a zombie on the ground with a flying bulldog!
Been looking forward to this one. Especially as someone who loves RE6.
My biggest problem with this game is that it takes control away from you every 20 seconds.
This is the only RE game where I don't remember like anything from it. I bought this release day.
I couldn’t get pass the first 10 minutes full of QTEs. You must have the patience of a saint
"Beyond Horrible"
"Must be seen to be believed"
"Not so bad"
"Underrated titel that is actually a Lot of Fun"
Tbh *All of this and SO much more applies to "John Woo's RE6"* ... Yeah It's Crazy!
Thanks for making this clear for me. There’s a sale that’s $12 for 4,5 and 6 and thought hey, why not try these but I think I’ll pass
It was an era of multiplayer shooting games on Xbox live
As others have said. Judging from your footage you never figured out the dodge/roll combat mechanic which is the number one reason people have so much fun with this game. It’s not surprising because the game doesn’t tell you and it requires 3 buttons to to trigger it. But once you get it, it’s a blast. I never played another game that worked like that and if this game wasn’t so bloated that mechanic would have been as revolutionary as max payne’s bullet time.
I really liked the "Once you go black" quick edit.
I see what you did there....
I haven't laughed at a UA-cam Video in years.
Nicely done!

@oviniboy that's exactly what's happening
I think they just told you to play this one to torture you. Some of us enjoy Spicy Mayo I guess.
Mercenaries is this game's saving grace, since it's the one mode that allows the gameplay to actually work. That's it, really. Mercenaries is pretty much the only mode of the game I revisit every now and then, lol
10:06 and this gave me the absolute worst motion sickness I ever got from any video game ever
It was one of the worst designed fights I've ever played, confusing, boring and ridiculous lol
Basically the whole video - I don't want to play it. 😆
Pretty much.
She doesn't look anything like she did in 2 and 4.
Cooping this now, I would never play it single but it's a lot of fun with a team.
Lot of good mods too *wink wink*, if you catch my drift.
never understood why people treat RE4 like god but berate RE5. To me, these games could not be any more similar to each other beyond the co-op. Some argue the co-op kills the horror. I'd argue the gameplay being so heavily focused on being a shooting gallery is what killed it. Something RE4 suffers greatly with even without having co-op. RE4-6 have about as much horror as a game of Call of Duty - bad guys show up over and over and you shoot them over and over
Plus, RE4 is the game directly responsible for why games like RE5 & 6 exist.
Exactly, RE 6 is just the logical contusion of RE4. There's a reason why people said "RE 4 is a good game but a bad RE game."
My sister and I also played RE5 together, good times, it foreshadowed how not so great the game was because i was playing with my sister
This game may not have been as good as RE4 but it was fun.
"Everyone told me to play... Resident Evil 6" I would have told you not to! 🤣🤣 This is the only mainline resident evil (including veronica) that I didn't finish. I just played the demo lol
If not for the Coop I never would have finished re5 and re6
I played the demo back in the day and I absolutely hated it. I'm never touching this game, ever.
There IS a FOV slider
I just found it! I'll be clipping that bit out of the video. Thank you.
If you want someone to suffer or have fun with you. This is where the game shines. If you want to experience it in single player.....why?
I remember playing this with my girlfriend at the time and her first comment was “have you noticed how the 6 looks like a giraffe?” Never been able to unsee that years later xD

More like a giraffe getting sucked off
@@lloydiekennedy3754 It looks like a guy doing smth weird to a giraffe
