Does Resident Evil 4 NEED a Remake?

- The Resident Evil 4 remake (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, 2023) is official with a release date and everything. Let's talk about what I'd like to see in the game as a big fan of the original version.

here's what I wanna see in this remake now that it is officially happening.
from what i saw they are trying to change the dead forest vibe to a haunted one like re8 which some people like it some not
I've played it again like a month ago after so many years since launch. Still holds up. Before that I've played RE2 remake. And yes it does need one. But still on the fence on remaking it play by play. I think I like it if it keeps a big plot points. But finesse everything around it.
Or is that not a remake no more?
What I liked about RE2 remake was the creepy Mr.X all over the place.
If they do a crazy ish like that with 4. I'm with it..
I have to say, I cannot wait to see what the Regenerators will look like on this engine. That whole section of the game is probably going to be insane!
Streamlining the story with 7 & 8 would be great. Definitely more horror wouldn’t hurt. Maybe a surprise prologue to gap 2 & 4 better.
I bet they will censor it, they censored the vr version.
The resi 3 remake was shit.
I bet the white shirt and pants outfit will be either gone.
I would much rather have a Code Veronica Remake. I think it's among the scariest and when it comes to its characters, most disturbing. Those twins, man. Alfred's loneliness and breakdown, Alexia's sociopathic desire for power, the very odd (incestuous?) relationship between the two. Couple that with the locations of Alfred's base, his creepy house and Antarctica. You can do so much more with that story. And I think a remake with better graphics would push the limits of survival horror.
Nobody would care tho
I feel it deserves a remake but probably not before 4 im sorry but re 4 is just an absolute classic
@@vintagedrugrug8637 it could honestly be a dlc or something
agreed, CV should have received the remake treatment. One of the most important games in regards to lore. Claire finally finds Chris, Wesker is found out to still be alive, We learn of the T-Veronica virus which would be coupled with Las plagas to create uroboros. Imagine how much creativity they woulda had with CV on the RE engine!
@@kei7540 you underestimate RE fans, after RE2 remake, new players have started to LOVE Claire and who wouldn't want to play as her again? She was awesome in that game! Also RE is WAY WAY bigger now, players would play any type of game that has the name Resident Evil in it.
I’m going to be happy as long as there’s no cut corners. Keep the same length with the Village, Castle, and Island. Changes are fine but please please do not cut anything….As for something I’m excited for is the regenerator. That thing is gonna be terrifying in the RE Engine!!!!
Sorry man, they´ll probably cut the island scenario. Probably the Labs and the Regenerator will be placed in the castle. I think the game will be condensed in these two parts. Considering the castle have an enormmous underground area, prisons, clock towers... Besides that the Island is a scenario that makes no sense, It´s a super militarized place, and the enemies use axes and wood shields. I think Krauser will be removed too.
@@otavio4100 why would Krauser get cut, if he was the one who kidnapped Ashley in the first place? 🤣
@@markcoleman9765 Cause He's just a random character to fill a very specific hole in the game story. They could easily give us another explanation to Ashley`s kidnap or just don´t give any. It´s a remake dude...
@@otavio4100 random guy? He has history with Leon💀💀💀
@No Way! That game came 4 years after Re4 so yep, they pulled Krauser out of their ass. Still i wouldn't like him to go, i love Krauser a lot
I'm hoping that this isnt a shortened experience, but I'm afraid the length may be cut down based of the past remakes.
The remakes are all, save for RE3, of comparable length to the originals if you look at the actual numbers though. REmake is clearly longer as it has the entirety of the original as well as entirely new areas and bosses. RE2 was advertised as being twice the size of the original, which I don't feel is true, but the est on the RE2 remake comes in around 8.5 while the OG was 6.5 from every outlet I can find, and the remake number tracks from my personal experience.
I think what is likely is that a lot of us spent a lot more time on the OG RE and RE2 than we did with these new ones because most of us probably weren't as good at games then. I think I was in middle school the first time I played RE: Director's Cut on the PS1, I was trash, for sure.
@@andothersuchnonsense2685 Thats a fair point, alongside the fixed camera and zapping system implemented into the campaign it could have definitely made things feel longer as well due to not being as streamlined. Also to be fair when RE2 remake came out many people were attempting speedruns I being one of them. So 45 min playthroughs after the first go through the campaign definitely may have lent to the perceived short length.
@@mattock1233 3 is for sure really short though. The world record speed run for that one, 48 hours after release, was like 12 minutes shorter than the record for the OG lol. That game should have cost $30 at most imo
@@andothersuchnonsense2685 Yeah that felt like a bit of a rip and missed opportunity to do some great things.
@@andothersuchnonsense2685
The RE2R is long because you spent time hiding from stupid unkillable Mr.X until he loses interest. A game that has cut out 2 scenarios cannot be comparable, not to mention all the missing enemies and butchered characters. And hell, if they wanted only two scenarios that much, they could've used canonical Claire A and Leon B. Instead they use A scenarios for both characters, yet they try to connect these two contradicting scenarios (Annette dies twice for crying out loud). They cut the good og stuff, and didn't fix og mistakes. RE2 2019 is a genuinely great survival-horror game, that much is true, but as a *remake* it sucks ass
I’ve never played resident evil 4, didn’t really play much resident evil, but since finishing village I bought the remakes and am looking forward to experience resident evil 4 with the modern presentation of the newer titles.
Same. I’ve seen plenty of RE4 walkthroughs thru the years, but I’m gonna pick up the remake and play it myself
If you liked Resident Evil Village, I think you'll enjoy 4 a lot. I'd say Village is almost like a sequel to Resident Evil 4. Village and 4 share that similar style of action-"horror"; they've both got merchants, weapons to buy and upgrade, fast paced, lots of ammo etc. As opposed to other entries like RE 1 - 3, Code Veronica & 7, which are more typical survival horror, a bit more slow, plodding, methodical, foreboding, limited resources and so on.
If you do decide to play Resident Evil 4 before the remake, I'd recommend checking it out either on Wii with a Wii Mote or in VR on Quest 2. The older controls are really hard to stomach in the original versions with a controller. OG versions are not impossible to play, but third-person mechanics have evolved so much, I'd say they feel over more archaic than the classic tank controls of the series.
You should definitely play the original one of the best games ever
Re4 is legendary. If you call yourself a gamer, you need to play it.
RE1 remake is pure masterclass. RE2 remake was an incredible game but had some missing content and you had to pay for the RESIDENT EVIL 2 voice at the start which was straight shit. re3 remake was dog aids. re4 was my childhood they better not fuck this up.
Honestly I think they went the right direction by already remaking 2 and 3 leading up to this, sort of in its own reimagined universe. I feel like that allows them to just say "oh no, this series is just our homage to the original series, it's not meant to replace it". And considering that they've been killing it since 7, I have total confidence in them. At the very least it'll be a fun, good game, and at best who knows, maybe one of the contenders for best game. It'll be even more impressive if they can pull that off with a remake game.
Man...I still remember buying my first Electronics Gaming Monthly and got a disc with a trailer for the original Gamecube release.
@James Wickham exactly. It isn't called "re2 remake" but it's just the regular name. They want it to be the new canon, the definitive version, which sucks.
I think the remakes are essential to push the new games forward, I think by remaking 4, 5 and 6 as full on horror (unpopular opinions) they can then push the story forwards from village with old characters without them being super crazy action heroes who can’t belong in horror games anymore.
They can forget about 5 and 6....lol
@@MasterMiller420 haha yeah very true that’s why I want it to establish a new cannon where that shit didn’t happen even if their almost a completely new game
They aren't making it fully horror. It'll be scarier than the original but it'll clearly still mostly be action. They just made RE8 which has more horror than 4 but is still very action-like. It'll probably be a lot like 8.
@@thedarktyrant poor wording my bad I don’t expect it to be like full on horror horror, I more meant in terms of atmosphere
@@samuelharrison7867 Yeah in its theme and atmosphere more horror would be nice. I hope it's like RE8. Still has enough action to be RE4 but definitely has more horror in how it feels than the original.
I just remembered Pan's Labyrinth take on a creepy, tense, atmospheric forest. Would be great if this remake took notes off of that movie.
In the remake after the island battle leon looks into the camers and saids "IT'S MORBIN TIME"
I read that it's the same team that did RE2 Remake so I think we can safely assume they'll avoid the pitfalls that happened with RE3 Remake. Fingers crossed! Also, love your videos. Love your passion. Cheers.
I think Jake is the only man who could get his head shaved and he’d still look like he could use a haircut. Lol nothing but love my dude 😂
I think its awesome that it'll be a more serious reimagining, definitely excited for the remake
Yeah bro we have the original for the goofiness but i think they’re definitely taking a more serious approach with this ome
@@Nabil-eg3jm exactly, if they just copy the original just remaster it instead
I can't wait to see UE-3 and verdugo again especially Verdugo that dude was crazy
I honestly would like to have seen (yes again) a remake of RE1, expanding on the Mansion setting but the one I want most of all is a Code Veronica remake 🤩 it's the only one out the the main entries that I haven't played. Also, just thinking how awesome they could make RE5 and 6 with these remakes (especially RE6) and fix the problems those games have while ramping up the horror and atmosphere that those games lacked... Make RE6 like the finale of these remakes and it could be like this epic culmination of what lead up to it. They could even add Claire and Jill into the mix with their own campaign if they wanted to, giving us the big 5 of the series in one game... Chris, Leon, Jill, Claire and Ada. I hope it happens 🤯🤞
And to answer your question, 4 doesn't need a remake but still... I want it bad 😃
I really wanted another remake of RE1 with the gameplay and engine of the newer remakes as well
@@Xman-mp5sn So many amazing settings in these games like Raccon City, Rural Spain and so on but the Spencer Mansion in the Arklay Mountains is something else dude, the atmosphere from the 2002 remake... Puts chills down my spine just thinking about
I’ve been wondering about a RE5 and 6 remake too. I actually, unironically love both of those games, but I’d be down to see a remake of them, especially if they still have co-op. Seeing both of them in the RE engine with a different spin on the story could be really interesting. I’m also really hoping for Code Veronica too. It’s the only one I haven’t played either!
@@Road_to_Dawn I love 5 and 6 too, I'm pretty sure they'll go there with those, if they're remaking 4 which is one of the greatest games of all time then surely they'll remake 5 and 6 and improve on them since they are the 2 entries that most fans had a problem with. Also... HELL YES to the Co op 😃
@@TheOneWhoLaughs101 Great idea about adding Claire and Jill to it too! Man, that'd be so cool.
Short answer no. Long answer, other resident evil titles deserve a faithful remake the build upon the originals foundation while still delivering the charm and themes of the original entry. Resident Evil 4 still plays and controls surprisingly modern and is a full game with a majority of its original ideas delivered upon. Other Resident Evil entries either came out at the wrong time in technology or were made as side ventures with room for improvements and additions. The outbreak games were released when console multiplayer was in its infancy. Now would be a much better time to even simply remaster those unique entries to the genre of horror.
Also they've left us with many questions following the ending of RE8 so a focus on RE9 while the pan is hot makes more sense to me. Also the past 2 remakes have been divisive, more the latter remake, add in the removal of lines from RE4VR and I begin to lose faith in how well this remake will be handled.
So no RE4 does not need a remake and instead I believe titles that are harder to obtain/play should be brought back into the light.
Those titles being
Code Veronica
Outbreak
Operation Raccoon City
Survivor/Dead Aim
Could you imagine if they used the control system from TLOU2 with breaking mele weapons, dogging and mele attacks. Would be insanely tense
There are some things that I wouldn't mind if they cut or updated but I really hope they keep the extra game modes and unlockables from the og.
I would like to see the mercenaries come back for real, not that dumb "clear the area" thing they did in Village. I want that hectic "You have 2 minutes. Good luck, don't die" mercenaries back. On that note make Louis a playable mercenary.
RE village mercenaries feels like raid mode demo XD
I think almost all of us can agree that Code Veronica is the RE game that desperately needs a remake
Dear god, yes! I wish they had remade CV before RE4 but hopefully that's next
I was thinking code Veronica would be the next remake and then 4 after that. The fact they are going straight to 4 has me a little worried that a code Veronica remake just isn’t in their future plans. Hope I’m wrong though cus I agree it could really use a remake. A modern code Veronica could be amazing
Love to hear you talk about games
Definitely in the same camp. I don't see a scenario where the remake replaces the OG, but that being said I'm excited as hell for it.
I’m hyped for more luis in the story. He was a cool side character and I bet his mercs loadout would be lit.
*Does it need one?* Nope
*Will I buy it on everything it comes out on for the next 15 years?* Fuck Yes!!!
I think it might be Capcoms attempt to bring the series in line with the more horror and survival elements of the new RE games post RE7. After RE4 the games became much more action oreintated. Now RT4 was great but the series departed from its core. So getting a remake thats more horror based could be better. Who knows, maybe we will get remakes based on this for RE5 and maybe even RE6 (probably not bcs that one to its core was action, RE5 still had elements of its horror based past).
Yes I agree! I hope they will. I kind of hope they remake RE6 nonetheless because that was the first RE game I didn’t enjoy much and only played through 2 or 3 times. It would be great to see 6 with actual horror elements.
I feel like village kinda was the slightly more serious version of RE4. And already not j line with RE7
If they do that to RE4 it will be a disaster
I really hope that they don’t cut off any content from the original games. Hopefully Mercenaries will be there too!
No it doesn't...
But definitely deserves one!
Really love that they are going more for a survival horror this time❤️
If it deserves one then it needs a remake imo :)
@@Nabil-eg3jm Then I guess Super Metroid needs a Remake.
I'm 55, and remakes usually drive me nuts, but I love resident evil. I'm usually a one and done girl, but I went back to play the series, but I hate the old controls, so that's what I want. RE 2 remake was a masterpiece
What we really need is a Re4 Reimagined, with the first idea of the "haunted" castle
The Spanish banger of a song that plays in the police’s car in the intro HAS to be in this remake :)
I have a sneaking suspicion that with all these remakes, Capcom is trying to course correct RE6. They might "remake" 5 and 6 into something else entirely. Possibly to better fit with 7 and Village? Alright, I took my tin foil hat off. Great discussion, Jake!
Exactly I think the remakes are essential to push the new games forward, I think by remaking 4, 5 and 6 as full on horror (unpopular opinions) they can then push the story forwards from village with old characters without them being super crazy action heroes like John wick.
Thats not too far off imo. I think they understand what tf happen in that game and will be trying to retcon alot of it
I Wish Too Bro.
RE is One Of My Favorite Franchises.
5&6 Were Clusterfuck To The Lore.
Lol you sony pony's no more exclusives for you😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks!
Currently running through the og resident evil 4, It’s fucking good man, from someone who plays mostly competitive shooters and shit this is a huge breath of fresh air
Just recently replayed RE4, still plays great and is fun as hell. I’m excited to see the regenerators again with their creepy breathing and then Verdugo
I think a remake for re4 would be great they could even make Louis a playable character let us see what he up to before leon gets there that be good and the more horror espect is a good spin
To be perfectly honest no Resident Evil 4 needed a Remake even less then Super Metroid does, they should have remade Code Veronica instead.
I wasn’t sold on this idea, especially since I feel like Code Veronica should get one first, but I am a lot more convinced after seeing this. Hopefully they stay respectful of the original, while providing a fresh experience. If they do remake any more after this I’d say Code Veronica, then 0, then maybe the very first game.
I totally agree wit CV, but I do not believe 1 and 0 should be remade. It would be cool to see those games on the new re engine but the fixed camera angles are the soul of those games.
@@kailatiolais3569 Exactly. Those remakes are perfect as is.
Wholeheartedly agree with your take as someone who holds this franchise near & dear to my heart, specifically this entry. RE4 had such a profound influence on my childhood, which all but makes me that much more nervous, but also that much more excited with this remake's potential & if done right by Capcom.
I’m hoping much of Capcoms mistakes from RE2 & RE3 remakes can be used here as knowledge gained from those experiences. With such a legendary entry & influential title like this, they can not cut corners here as they have in past years, which means no vast cut-out areas & or enemies. This includes modes, enemy types, & characters-no shortcuts.
Also, a few mixed things they could include with the remake could be different character regenerator models like we see in the freezer room on the island when you 1st get hold of the infrared scope. They could also include a remix spin on Salazar's “right hand,” perhaps including a segment in the castle where he’s used as a stalker-type enemy, much like Mr. X. Last but not least is the music. I feel it doesn’t get talked about as often with these remakes, but the lack of memorable music with these new titles has been scarce. The regenerator music that plays when you enter the prison cell area near the end of the game comes to mind. I feel like this could be expanded
Great point about the music. I need to pay much closer attention. I hope they don't drop the ball this time. There is so much great classic RE music!
@@JakeBaldino 100% Jake! I hope Capcom is taking notes with all these videos & fan comments. The list can go on & on from what we love & made RE4 so special. From the underrated aspects of the game like inventory management with the different suitcases to the groundbreaking headshot animations our eyes 1st saw back in 05 etc. The subtle yet huge things are what also added to the experience & made RE4 so special.
Also, big fan of the show Jake!! You all have been very inspirational to me in gaming media. I hope you guys keep it up!
I'm hyped to hear "What're ya buyin?" from the merchant in this new engine. The battles will be interesting as I do not think they will keep them as they were with the QTE prompts. But we'll see. This could be an exciting time if they do this right. Now only if capcom would dedicate this type of detail to other franchises...
Honestly, they should've tried to remake this last because out of all the games, this is the one they ABSOLUTELY cannot afford to mess up.
RE4 revolutionized so much when it came out that it's probably up there in the top 10 most influential video games of all time.
What they should've done is remake all of the other games first.
Code Veronica is definitely something I'd like to see a remake of, especially now that I've grown to love the new Claire and her voice actor.
I still think they need to redo 3 or at least, do a big DLC that adds back the cut content because that game was a big misstep in the amount of potential it had.
They could also redo Resident Evil Zero and perhaps even 1 (not as needed considering 1 was one of the best in the series and got several remakes already), especially since we know what Rebecca looks like from the picture in RE2 Remake, so we'd have a good idea of how Zero could look based on her.
The goal is to use all of those games as learning experiences in order to make RE4 as great of a remake as possible.
That being said, it doesn't NEED a remake, though it does deserve one considering how great of a game it was.
But yeah, I really hope they don't screw it up. They need to give it even more love and care than they did RE2 Remake and then some, because screwing this up could sink the franchise overall.
Need? No. RE4 plays just fine and is available on so many consoles. I'll enjoy the remake of course but I know there's no way I'll play it as many times on as many consoles as the original. There was a flash in the pan moment with RE4 that can't be repeated and made it deeply influential. I expect the same quality as RE2R though and maybe the devs can explore things they couldn't in the original. It won't be better but I hope it will be different.
To be honest I think if they just updated the control scheme on the original all would have been good, but still will be interesting to see what they have done with the remake.
We all knew it was gonna happen and I'm really excited....the craziest part of the game for me was the chif boss fight in the burning barn and if they nail that then I know it's gonna be epic...you da man jake
The first level was such a statement on what you need to do for the game I hope we can get that feel when playing again. Also the soundtrack needs to return . The Drive is such a banger song!!
I agree that it's not needed. I played RE4 when I first got hooked on the series after playing RE1:R in 2016 (which has also aged great, tank controls just work) and I was astounded how well it had aged. Great game. That being said, I know a lot of people won't play older games and I'm just glad more people will get to enjoy this game.
Also, RE2:R's take on Leon and Ada was great and I'm really excited to see them again.
No, I didn't ask for this; but I'm so excited regardless. If any of these games hasn't aged well, I'd actually say 5,6 are kind of rough, they're the only games in the series that I haven't completed, I almost finished 5 but it gets so boring by the end, and 6, I really want to like but I have never made it further than 30 minutes. So, I really hope those are next.
They´ll probably cut the island scenario.
I think it's a shame they're skipping Code Veronica. RE4 still holds up beautifully, even graphically it holds up. CV would've benefitted much more from a graphical and gameplay overhaul, then we could've gotten RE4 in 5-10 more years when it really started to show its age.
There definitely should be a dedicated kick/melee button. And it should be up to the player when best to use it. Obviously you'd look for indicators such as a staggered opponent, but it would also be nice just to kick the hell out of a npc to create space, but also have enemies who can capitalize on your kicks with counters just to let you know you can't just Bruce Lee your way through the game.
Love Resident Evil! First 3 are brilliant, I could never get into 4 😕 I will be trying the remake when it comes out. Would love to see the first Resident Evil remade in the RE Engine 👍🏻
Same here ! I would love to see RE 1 with an over the shoulder camera.
Me too, RE4 was tough for me to get into, i end up finishing the game but never wanted to go back to it. I think thats why im not hyped at all for this game but im willing to try the upcoming demo to see how I feel.
To answer your question jake, HELL YES it needs a remake! It was one of the best RE’s and with updated controls and graphics on the PS5, it’s gonna be a stellar revisit
I don't think RE4 really needs a remake, but I'm glad there is going to be one.
I love resident evil 4, and as a story and game it was amazing. That said, I didn't actually play past the first level until this year, and I can whole-heartedly tell you that its controls were jank because I don't have any nostalgia goggles for this game. Everything else about it is fine, just fix the controls so it's more on part with the Resi 2 and 3 remakes and you've sold me. Not gonna lie though, I'm all for them making it look prettier too.
What I HATE about the remakes is the whole screen moves when you move the aim curser. The aim stays in the center of the screen and the whole screen has to completely move to aim. In Resident Evil 4 the laser moves, and the camera screen moves along subtlety. So many youtubers saying the gameplay is outdated when it really isn't. Leon's animation when running is a bit stiff and when he turns but that could be adjusted for the remake. It worries me when they say they're going to update to modern gameplay. I hope they keep the lasers and for those who have said players who prefer the lasers suck at shooting then there should be an option for those who do and don't want laser aim. The lasers are so much fun.
As long as they make saving Ashley less frustrating, I'll be happy!! "Help, Leon!!!" every 30 seconds! And, you've the perfect headshot lined up on the guy carrying her; and she sticks her head in the way! I'll be honest, I purposely let her get taken away a few dozen times.
I hope that they keep the foreign language. I can't wait to see how they remake the fight with the wolverine guy, the regenerators and "IT". Let's not forget the pred-alien monster [Salazar's "right hand"]. I hope they bring back Mercenaries. I can't wait to see the merchant again.
I for one am glad they are leaning more into the horror for the remake. I never played RE4 when it released as it just didn't feel like the RE I loved from 1 2 and 3 it more more about the action and zany story. Also didn't like how Umbrella got totally sidelined I loved the Umbrella stories.
I'd prefer an RE0 remake instead. I would love to see them expand on the layers and enemies of the Ecliptic Express train of RE0. Also have a prolonged horror filled train ride encountering enemies and puzzles on the different layers of the train to get deeper into the train before eventually leading Rebecca and Billy into a newer more unique Research Center that differentiates itself from the Spencer Mansion of RE1.
And have James Marcus be more present and menacing in the game with some more backstory on his relationship with Spencer and his creation of the T- Virus. Have an item box and the original prototype Tyrant hunt Rebecca and Billy through some portions of the new Research Center. No switching back and forth with Billy at will though once they arrive at the Research Center. Just have the player play as Billy at certain points in the game when he gets separated from Rebecca once the Train crashes and arrives at the Research Center.
A LOT of hopefulness in this video, but I also agree with a lot of the points you made, Jake. It's been nearly nine years since I played through Resident Evil 4 (PS2 version) for the first time, so I'm ecstatic about this remake, but I really hope Capcom can fit everything that was in the original game into the remake.
It'd totally suck if this remake turns out like Resident Evil 3's remake, what with the missing/cut content that was present in RE3ms original release.
I would have been ok with a complete asset overhaul that offered original controls and modern REmake controls.
Seeing Leon updated is... interesting. I hope RE4 remake has the quality of RE2. But after the letdown of 3...
I remember when resident evil 4 came out. I bought a GameCube and re4 on family day (the day before graduation) when I graduated from Marine Corps boot camp in 2005. Good times
Sure, the visuals and cinematic presentation are incredible, but the reason the Resi 2 and 3 remakes are so welcome is because it gives you the Resi 4 gameplay, losing the fixed camera survival horror trappings to give you a new perspective on a familiar nightmare.
To that end, I'm not excited about Resi 4 remake. I can overlook graphics, so for me the gameplay is going to be almost 1:1 (just refined, of course).
Code Veronica was primed for this style of remake. Hell, they could go back and redo the original Resi again with the third-person perspective. I know the game is super beloved by fans so it's going to sell gangbusters, but for me, the logical next step was to redo a fixed camera game in the series.
Jake's *HAIRSTYLE* needs a REMAKE,
*switch it up maaaan , RAAASTA* 😂🤧
So damn excited for this!!! I’m pumped to see what they do with the merchant!
What makes me hopeful is that it's the same original team that made the RE2 remake. But what I really want them to do is not cut ANYTHING out. I want them to also add more because this was a long game and it needs to stay that way. I don't want to play this game and beat it in 2 hours. I want to feel like I did when playing the original. So they should actually expand on this and add what they couldnt to the original and add to this remake. They have a lot of preassure on them because of how successful this game is. They cant mess it up because if they do, they will instantly lose the trust of the fans.
This game definitely needs a remake
I've had wonderful experiences playing the 2 and 3 remakes with my girlfriend. I feel like they played really well as a backseat gaming experience. While I love the original Resident Evil 4, I'm perfectly happy to get something a little more condensed and focused. Like you say, the OG is always there, so why not go for something slick and new. Perhaps an Ashely that isn't annoying as well?
I'm all for a remake/remagine. As much as I love the original, I'd love to see a more serious approach on horror versus Leon being a Chad all the time and throwing one liners at every monster he encounters which makes us the player not take them seriously either.
Thanks for the great content jake, currently playing dmc3 on dmd with a brand new save meaning I don’t got the fancy end game stuff lol, but I really needed this vid 👍🏽
Really fleshing out character motives in this noire styled ambient is my biggest concern, the story of how all these spies and vagrants are swarming to an isolated village wasn’t fully conveyed in the original.
Ada, Luis, and Krauser appear with almost no context or motives to their goals, rather they just perform their roles respectively. The story ultimately doesn’t fully reveal their perspective and I hope they do more to expand on their presence like they have already with Leon’s debrief.
i really want the remake rs4 bec its damn good and ahead at its time
i hope we can have more guns this time
I hope the intro is a bit different as it seemed like they already recreated a more intense version of the same concept in re8
Just going off the question in the title because I'm typing while watching, haha: At first I was perturbed that they announced this and not a Code Veronica remake instead and thought it didn't deserve this treatment. But then, I saw the State of Play, and I'm convinced this remake has now changed my mind. I still want a CV remake, but this looks soooooo good. And if it sells well, maybe we get this treatment on CV eventually. I definitely went from not wanting to go to the ball game to cheering the home team hitting it out of the park. I'll be picking up day one. 👍
3:20 it's looking to be doing that. There's a cutscene that shows Leon with the president in the trailer
Never played re until I tried re2 remake. Loved the series since then but when I tried re4 it just felt so outdated and I couldn't get into it properly. A remake sounds amazing to me. Re2, re3, biohazard and village are now some of my favourite ever games. I'll never say no to another one.
I didn’t really like 4 when it first came out. Over the years it grew on me, especially recently in VR! So yeah I’m interested to what this remake will look like.
I hope they keep the suplexes, round house keys and their heads pop off. Those spin kicks.. Hopefully they keep all that.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the fan-made remaster mod for RE4 that just came out a few months ago. Looks f-in amazing
I've thought more about this and I'm really hoping we get the full game. In fact I would have been okay with this experience being split into episodes which is really weird of me to say.
I'd love to see a resident evil 5 remake. Maybe with the co-op removed
Here's my take on Resi 4 Remake and Remakes in general. If the Devs want to make a remake then cool, great. Obviously there are some games that don't need a remake whether it be because it wasn't popular enough or its not old enough yet. Remakes are supposed to be a complete reimagining of the original, yet so many people expect everything to be almost exactly the same which completely defies the idea of a remake. What these people are looking for is more like The Last Of Us Remake which is more along the lines of a remaster than a remake because its technically the exact same game experience with improved graphics, save for the minor changes. People are getting confused with what they want in a remake. They don't want what it is, they want the feeling they felt with the original which is almost impossible to redo. With remakes, I expect changes to be made and if anything I'm more upset if they're too similar. I want a new experience, I don't want to go chasing for old feelings, I want to experience new ones. That's why I like the Resi 3 Remake more than most people.
The intro is similar to RE8 village attack intro, where you fight the werewolves off and once the church bells ring, they go away and the game starts.
RE8 was laying a lot of groundwork for the RE4 Remake, testing the waters
i feel like RE village was excuse to do RE4 resources
like u have village and some castle and some boat and merchant and re 4 inventory systems with treasures and lt of stuff
Can't even begin to explain how excited I am for this remake, yes it's dear to my heart and it holds up very well but there's so much they can do with this now and 5&6 going forward. Which I hope they do, giving us a straight line from 2 to 6 of more horror heavy games. 3 falls out a bit but guessing they wanted to stay true to that part in the original third game. Shame it was so short though. Anyway, it's gonna be so different from the OG fourth game but hopefully we'll love it like the RE2make
Pizza's NOT on you?!
I'm definitely interested in how the tone is going to be once we get to play it. Good stuff, as always!
Im real curious to see what they do with the gameplay. I just started playing Resident Evil 4 on my switch and the aiming mechanic has taken some getting used to. That being said it ups the tension of the game and I know a lot of diehards feel like the tank controls are a part of RE4's identity.
I think they are going to do a great job with this one. I just hope they leave some of the campy and weird moments untouched. Also, no pizza this time 😢
It annoys me when people say that Resident Evil 4 wasn’t scary. Resident Evil has never been about things being terrifying or scary, they’ve always been about anxiety, tension, and suspense. True evil is the evil that makes you panic, that makes you feel weak and vulnerable. Resident Evil 4, from the opening with the chainsaw man, all the way to the regenerators made you feel panic and anxiety.
If they treat it like the other remakes, I don't think RE4 should be remade. It'll have too much cut content :(
I really hope after Capcom are done with the RE Remakes/Remasters we get a Remake/Remaster of Asura's Wrath that'd be dope especially with today's graphics even though the og still holds up.
Personally I still need a remake for RE1. With this engine I'd like 1-4 on this generation because they look and play amazing and that holds more significance. I have been having a blast replaying these and even put Dying Light 2 on my backlog
I don't want them to cut any content
More so flesh out some bits and pieces here and there
Really put in detail in the lore and the core gameplay
The enemies and the bosses too
I'm excited for the gameplay too
It would be nice to move around even a little bit while shooting and aiming
Maybe not the way RE6 did but
Enough to not feel as stiff
Everything about the game I love though
Forever a place in my heart RE:4 ❤️
Honestly I wouldn't even be mad if the game got delayed if it meant they gave it their all ya know?
I really hope they don't do the game as short as RE3 Remake and that they don't cut many iconic locations. I hope it's not very guided like the first one, like, you can actually move more freely in the woods or that you can actually get lost in the castle. I'd also like to see more enemies with different shapes and faces and different dialogues. I really hope bosses are more difficult though, I played RE4 last year and it was very easy haha
There's alot of new gamers that didn't have a GameCube/PS2 growing up so i can understand why a remake is necessary.
I will say it’s funny how there’s so many versions to play the OG RE4 (funny we gotta say that now lol) but the best playing one is the one on the GameCube
Imagine that scene from RE:CV where Chris knocks off Wesker's glasses in the new engine.
I don't think RE4 *needs* a remake, but man if I'm not hyped over the moon that we're getting one. I'm on the same boat as you here - really want to see how they give it all a fresh spin with current-gen tech. If they do even half of what they did with 2 remake, I think we're in for a good time. Also, I think you forgot a very important part of the outro today, man. I want my pizza.
The last third of the game, the island, is an area of the game where there is DEFINITELY room for improvement. Also can we get a co-op mode with Luis? 😍
Yapping about stuff you love is the essence of UA-cam at it's best Jake - you do it well 👍
It needs what it is getting a ‘reimagining’.
I think remakes are good because it’s forcing them to go back to their roots and re-learning things for the next new installment. Resident Evil was a horror survival puzzle ish game. RE4’s original vision was to be much more actiony and stylish but instead of doing that, they made it a separate IP. That separation created the best of both worlds; Devil May Cry and RE4. Though RE5-6 ended up being actiony anyways which was a mistake.
Then they made RE7 and the first remake and ever since, they’ve learned to stick to those horror survival roots and I think continuing to remake the originals in a modern vision will enforce and create new ideas to implement these core elements into the next new installment.
It’s something I wish Ubisoft would do with its Assassin’s Creed titles. They need to go back to its stealth parkour roots and maybe make a separate title if they want something more action rpg heavy. Capcom did it and now they have two solid very well renowned IPs with different genres rather than one IP that has an identity crisis.
Honestly, I want a fresher take. It will never be better than the original. I just want them to explore more of the story in different aspects. Like, I want to know more about Leon and Krauser outside of the supplementary games. They can also explore the psyche of Leon when the Plagas was taking its root in the island. The original didn't really explore that outside of Leon choking Ada in a cutscene. Lastly, I want more lore on Luis' ancestors and the Merchant's backstory. I'd like to think that they are both connected because of the tunnels, but I just want more insight on that.
But outside of what we want, even if it doesn't live up to the expectations we will still have the original to go back to. It is still perfectly playable and it will always be one of the best video games ever made.
I secretly hope that they took note that Mr X was the biggest highlight of RE2remake, and maybe they can make Mendez perform that roll in the village untill you kill him in that bossfight. Stuff like that would set this remake apart
