For guitarists, Gary was a god. He is important because he was a virtuoso, and he showed us new things you could do with that instrument. He also wasn't just a guitar player, he was a great songwriter and knew how to play with great emotion. RIP Gary, we love you!
BJ ask about the guitar he used. In this video, Gary is playing 'Greeny', which is the 1959 Gibson Les Paul which was Peter Green's (of the original Fleetwood Mac) main instrument in the late 60s/early 70s, and when Peter quit the music business he basically gave the guitar to a young Gary Moore who was probably still a teen at the time. Gary owned Greeny for over 30 years, and it is now in the hands of Kirk Hammett of Metallica, who does play it every show for at least one or two songs. I cannot think of a guitar that has more pedigree than Greeny - owned and played on stage by 3 different guitar gods over a period of 60 years, no other guitar matches that.
@@acfiv1421 Over the years it was also played by BB King, Muddy Waters and Rory Gallagher as well as one or two others that escape me. It probably has more history than any other Guitar, if you think about it.
I saw Gary Moore for the first time live in Stocholm Sweden on the Black Rose tour with Tin Lizzy in 1978...since that day....hard to describe, but that was the day I became "religious" Nowadays I'm so glad that I went to all concerts with Gary in sweden and in Reading England with Greg Lake....There will not be another one like him RIP Gary the greatest guitarist in modern time!
My first rock concert was seeing Gary Moore open for Rush. I was new to playing guitar at the time and I was BLOWN AWAY. Gary was incredible and I left and immediately bought all his records. RIP Gary…very missed
Every time he picked up a guitar he attacked it with reckless abandon. I'm surprised his guitars didn't press charges on him for abuse. The guy was amazing.
My guitar stands in the corner, I can feel the judgement from it....." you never touch me that way...." All I can say back is " you knew what this was ..."
Long live the memory of Gary Moore. One of the most soulful guitarists to ever grace our ears or our stages. The first time I got to see him live was on the "White Knuckles" tour and he blew the roof off the place!
My favorite guitarist. He played the Blues with a harder edge than Stevie Ray Vaughan which I prefer. Not that I don't think Stevie walks on water but I do love Gary's "edge".
Absolutely, for me personally Hendrix is and will always be the greatest but Gary Moore is right there just behind with SRV, Gilmour and very few others
Gary Moore was and still is soooooo underrated as a rock blues guitarist who had that guitar plugged into his heart. He and SRV, both true musical geniuses who should always be remembered.....
He didn't just play the blues of course. He had one of the best metal albums of all time in Victims of the Future, among others. Some great solo hard rock albums as well, and of course his work in Thin Lizzy. Blues/rock/metal whatever, the man was flat out fire on a guitar.
When he played Gary had the ability to make his guitar an entity by itself reflecting his own pain, joy and sadness. Everything from his tone, phrasing, building emotion there will never be another like him. 😳😢🙏😎♥️👍♥️
The sound of the "dang guitar" at 10:41 is called "violining" because it sounds like a violin! It's created by picking the string with the volume low, then pushing the string up to increase its pitch and at the same time, turning up the volume. You have to do that for each note! Watch again and you can see his right hand work the volume.
Gary Moore is one of the greats often overlooked by the media but not his peers. This is actually a cover of Roy Buchanan's song with the same title both great versions. Gary had many styles from hard rock to blues. He also played with Thin Lizzy for awhile. Great reaction!
I've listened to this Gary Moore piece over the years it feels like a deeper religious experience each time.Thank you for sharing it here! You're right on target about the emotion involved; this is what music is about. Blessings to you!
As the man on the right said, Gary Moore is something else. He was far beyond a guitar player, lifting music to another higher level, way beyond notes. Jimi Hendrix was from that place too.
Gary Moore is a fantastic guitarist and one of my favorites. I always love hearing him play, his guitar sings to me, I feel everything he is putting down. Love your reactions, keep on checking out his performances. He is a master at his craft.
The guitar? It's an instrument with a history -- a 1959 Gibson Les Paul, which was given to him by the legendary, the late Peter Green (founder member of Fleetwood Mac before they went soft) back in the early 1970s. It has a unique sound because of the unusual wiring of its pickups. It's now owned by Kirk Hammett, of Metallica. One of the great guitars of rock and electric blues history. There's plenty more of Moore (excuse the unintended pun!) for you to appreciate, guys. Also check out Peter Green, who was a big influence on Gary. Indeed, he devoted a whole album to Peter over 20 years ago (link below). The emotional side of his playing? Well he drew much of that from Peter's playing; Peter was well known for making grown men cry at his concerts, because of the emotional impact of his playing. Add to that, Gary's Irish roots, and you have the source of his own unique emotional impact. You're not alone in thinking he is talking directly to your soul through his playing. ua-cam.com/video/0_8V1LzikSQ/v-deo.html
Hi. I happened to stumble on your great reaction. Ive been playing Professionally for over 40 years and have been following Gary since he was with the original Skid Row. What you witnessed was a master class on vibrato technique, volume and tone control manipulation on a difficult guitar to master. A Gibson Les Paul. Particularly that one. The Peter Greene Les Paul. Gary always said it was a bastard to play. He uses his heavy metal skills along with his blues influence to do something ive never heard another guitarist do. Make a Les Paul cry and beg. Believe me. Ive heard and met them ALL SRV, Satriani, Vai name it. ALL great. None Gary. You will never see the likes of this again.
Hey guys, It is a song of praise that captures the anticipation of the return of the Messiah Jesus Christ and was written by Roy Buchanan in the early 70's. What is so special about Roy is the sounds he was able to achieve prior to pedals and other electronic equipment to enhance the tone. The emotion you talk about is the anointing that is upon the song. Since the song is about Christ Jesus. What you are feeling is the tug of the Holy Spirit, causing you to want to fall on your face and give praise and thanks to Him. "who was and is and is to come"
@mikeshaver3330 late comment I know, but what do you think is rorys best solo? I've heard several of his songs but I've never been completely awed like I am by gary or gilmoure

He's playing Peter Green's "Ole Greenie" from Fleetwood Mac. The others you mentioned were great in their own right but Gary Moore is so special with his finesse and timings. His heart is laid out on the neck of that guitar. His video with BB King "Thrill is Gone" is just an amazing expression of "Call and Response" improv and it's great.

By the way.....that looks like 1990 Montreux.....listen to Texas Strut! Gary imitates Stevie and Billy Gibbons. His Gibbons thing will blow your minds.
Nice. Yes, this was the great Roy Buchanan's song. They were both masters of guitar tone/ intonation. In response to Hendrix, Roy Buchanan took it upon himself to figure out ways of producing guitar effects with his hands rather pedals or processing machines. Pure tone like B.B. King.
Gary Moore was simply the greatest guitarist ever 🎸, when he played he was the guitar, the guitar was him.
