Kingdom Death: Monster is a fully cooperative tabletop hobby game experience. Set in a unique nightmarish world devoid of most natural resources, you control a settlement at the dawn of its existence. Fight monsters, craft weapons and gear, and develop your settlement to ensure your survival from generation to generation.
Campaign System
Embark alone or with up to 3 friends (5 with game variant) on a 5-30-lantern-year campaign, with each year consisting of a cycle of hunt, showdown, and settlement phases. The settlement phase is an intricate civilization building game in which you spend very limited resources to build buildings, research new technologies, train your warriors, and set up your strategy for survival. During the hunt, you'll encounter a series of stories in a "choose your own adventure" style journey through various events and encounters. Finally, when you meet the monster you're pursuing, you'll engage it in an a massive arena-style battle where only one party is going to survive. If your party lives, you'll be able to bring the spoils back home to use in expanding your settlement.
Monster AI System
Each of the 7 monsters included are controlled by their own pair of decks that scale to 3 levels of difficulty (except for the final encounter, which has only 1 level and it's HARD!). Every encounter, even with the same monster, is highly variable and no two showdowns will resolve the same way. Players will have to plan their gear and keep their minds sharp to prevail.
Gear System
In Kingdom Death: Monster, survivors will craft gear from resources earned from defeating monsters or found on their hunt. Each survivor has a 3x3 gear grid. Selection and arrangement of your gear cards is critical, as many provided bonuses and activate special rules when aligned correctly.
Story Event System
40+ Story Events plus over 100 hunt encounters will shape and guide your campaign. Story Events detail important evolutions in your civilization, introduce new monsters, and provide rich detail for your campaign. Some will trigger automatically as you progress through the campaign, but most will be entirely based on choices players make.
Story Events cover everything from setting up and fighting a monster to key events that happen within the overall story. Some are triggered directly from the timeline and others from choices you make in game.

Just wanted to say I really enjoyed this. Part of the reason I gave up on the game was that the group that was supposed to be teaching me would basically take over my turn and just felt like a bystander. Watching how patient you were teaching her makes me want to give this game another shot, hopefully with different group. Hope we do see more gameplay in the future!

I’ve fought a white lion or seen one fought at least 30 times so it’s hard to watch a prologue anymore with much enthusiasm. Great job! I hope you do more of these with her specifically. This is a 2 player game only in my opinion. I think a lot of people would subscribe to your patreon if you did a playthrough with a newbie like her making the decisions. I know I’d subscribe. This was great! I finally finished up my first campaign this Summer, it took around two years due to quarantine keeping us apart but it was exciting to finally see the conclusion.

So from your video one thing it seems frustrating to me is all those dice rolls and the randomness they impose. On the other hand, the one thing that seems great to me is all those dice rolls and the endless reward sensation you get when you manage to inflict a critical hit! This seems awesome! 😎
Like Darkest Dungeon, it's a game that seems like it involves a lot of randomness but is really about mitigating that randomness where possible. You definitely have to be able to accept a certain amount of things being out of your control.

We also named our settlement the 'Lantern Wastes' which comes from the Narnia books

That’s far more sensible then my groups approach to names.. Our latest settlement was a combination of ingredients from the back of an energy drink. Which encouraged everyone to name our survivors after famous chefs. Gordon & Pierre are going strong xD.
OMG!!! Why didn’t I realise this was underway!!! Super excited! I blame Quackalope for jumping into 1.6 and the Gambler’s Chest. My copy of 1.6 is currently floating its way over the pond to the UK. CANNOT WAIT FOR IT TO ARRIVE. In the meantime, I can watch one of my favourite content creators and a play through of my new favourite game.

It will be hard to find but there was official prints out there for select artwork, I know the intimacy artwork definitely had one

Fleshy Gut hit wasn't a failure (around 32.5 minutes). She rolled a 5, and founding stones have a strength of 1. Meeting the toughness counts as a wound. Ya'll were also making me nervous staying in front of the WL, but thats part of the fun lol. I love the excited triumphs and the brutal defeats the game brings.

So just a comment from a new KDM backer....
1.6 cores were reported as of today to be supposedly in a container and "expected" (heavy emphasis on expected) to be distributed in the next month or 2. I know I for one am looking to watch a ton of YT gameplay vids to get as much rule info into my head as possible before it arrives. Im sure others will be doing the same.
Perhaps consider keeping these vids on YT instead of Patreon for all of us newbies? Cause I definitely enjoyed watching you teach someone who was also a beginner to this game.
I'd recommend watching anything kdm that Quacks and also the 50+ episode playthrough from Meet me at the Table

@@jonathana6298 I asked him while covid lockdown were in full swing they are from the eBay vendor i was told. Though at the time the vendor had closed shop due to pandemic issues regarding shipping aNd stuff. BUT I went to a local store and asked them to order 4 models for me from the guy( am very sceptical) so if i remember I can try commenting again when I get them...if I get them

Hey man! May I ask you a question? where did you get the plastic grids you store the gear cards for each survivor? Those are GREAT!!!
They’re just the normal folder page pockets that hold 20 gear cards cut down to 3 x 3. (They gave me that idea on his 1.6 essentials video)

What do you think about the level 3 monsters? I tried the Sunstalker lvl 3. With the best gear. We got to half he's health. Then he destroyed us.

I'd like to ask
1/ where do you get expansions etc.? You said a lot of them are coming out and many are logged in on bgg, but the official kdm store is almost empty, the expansions aren't even listed, let alone in stock
2/ could you possibly please make a video about streamlining KDM setup and play and minimizing bookkeeping and such? This is the big hurdle for me so I often just give up and play Eldritch or Arkham Horror instead

Our first playthrough of the prologue, I ended up throwing my stone at the lion, hit it in the genitals, severed them, and got the priority token. Spent the rest of the game running from it while my friends beat it down and I continually taunted it by waving around it's severed coinpurse until we won.

Completely different styles of games. KDM is a survival Monster Hunter game, Midarra is Campaign story dungeon crawler
I've watched about a dozen plays of this game, and I just don't get the love that it creates in some people. I'll watch yours too, but the game (both mechanics and theme) just leaves me cold.
I think it's something you need to experience, just watching it doesn't do it justice. For me, best game I've ever played full stop. But I guess the theme and style is not for everyone.
Playing it feels different because you get to make the decision and it is much more immersive and a challenge to excel at it!

I'm trying to track a copy of this down. Super hard, price gouge-ers are really asking 2nd hand copies impossible to buy.
I bought mine from the official store. I had to wait a minute and it’s already gone up in price $70! I say just put your order in now.
It looks fun. But, I have a hard time with some of the game setting decisions. It's not the dark theme or even nudity that's a problem. It's the ripping off the lions balls aspect. Stuff like that just feels like such a thematic disconnect. It's something I'd expect from an Evil Dead game.
Really ? If i was in a life or death battle with a psycho lion you are damn sure im going to try and attack it where it counts.
That's a stand out one to me too, and I've put money into this game. There are the odd moments in the game (like the lion's 'ding-dong') where it just drops the tone for a terrible childish joke (there's a chainmail thong event in the event deck too is the other that comes to mind). That being said, those moments are few and far between and it genuinely is great and maintains the tone the rest of the time. I leave the testicles to not fuck with the balance of the hit location deck but other stuff that bothers me like the event I mentioned I just leave in the box.
