Kingdom Death: Monster is a fully cooperative tabletop hobby game experience. Set in a unique nightmarish world devoid of most natural resources, you control a settlement at the dawn of its existence. Fight monsters, craft weapons and gear, and develop your settlement to ensure your survival from generation to generation.
Campaign System
Embark alone or with up to 3 friends (5 with game variant) on a 5-30-lantern-year campaign, with each year consisting of a cycle of hunt, showdown, and settlement phases. The settlement phase is an intricate civilization building game in which you spend very limited resources to build buildings, research new technologies, train your warriors, and set up your strategy for survival. During the hunt, you'll encounter a series of stories in a "choose your own adventure" style journey through various events and encounters. Finally, when you meet the monster you're pursuing, you'll engage it in an a massive arena-style battle where only one party is going to survive. If your party lives, you'll be able to bring the spoils back home to use in expanding your settlement.
Monster AI System
Each of the 7 monsters included are controlled by their own pair of decks that scale to 3 levels of difficulty (except for the final encounter, which has only 1 level and it's HARD!). Every encounter, even with the same monster, is highly variable and no two showdowns will resolve the same way. Players will have to plan their gear and keep their minds sharp to prevail.
Gear System
In Kingdom Death: Monster, survivors will craft gear from resources earned from defeating monsters or found on their hunt. Each survivor has a 3x3 gear grid. Selection and arrangement of your gear cards is critical, as many provided bonuses and activate special rules when aligned correctly.
Story Event System
40+ Story Events plus over 100 hunt encounters will shape and guide your campaign. Story Events detail important evolutions in your civilization, introduce new monsters, and provide rich detail for your campaign. Some will trigger automatically as you progress through the campaign, but most will be entirely based on choices players make.
Story Events cover everything from setting up and fighting a monster to key events that happen within the overall story. Some are triggered directly from the timeline and others from choices you make in game.

I finally got into the game thanks to your last video, as made it look less intimidating than I originally thought, and I'm having a BLAST playing it!
Not yet my favourite game ever but god is it incredible! And hard, I feel my first settlement is not going to last long....

@@good33fun I played on Tabletop Simulator. I'd only play it solo so I'm not sure it's worth buying unfortunately. Late pledges are still open for the 1.6 version though I believe.

You forgot the two resources that were lying next to your survivor (one Lion Claw and one Strange Hand). Also you don't get a point in weapon experience from aging the first time. Only from the showdowns after your first age event.
I've seen people doing this a lot - is it clear in the rule book (I only ask as so many seem to take the point from the showdown they just completed)
@@cyberleish The aftermath mentions to gain weapon proficiency, before gaining huntXP. So for me it's pretty obvious.

Love that you’re doing this and hopefully there won’t be too many rules oopsies but it’s inevitable. One that you did was retroactively giving your characters their proficiency in weapons - going forward you now gain it.
Also a way to think of Survival is like an understanding of the world around you. The more you’re able to absorb before a showdown, the more prepared you’ll be for it! You have a baseline from the settlement, but gear and events can give it a little boost before you use it up and needs to be regained as the world around d you keeps changing :)
for those that can't get enough of KDM "One Stop Co-op Shop Streamed" are also running a campaign with the KDM legend Bairnt, I'll be watching both that and this great Quack series (need more soon though!!!)
If I could make a suggestion, the series might be improved by using the overhead camera to zoom in on relevant cards (could be done after the main video and edited in afterwards). See how Meet Me at the Table handles this in his KDM walkthrough. Loving the series so far!
agree although if the extra time required means we don't get so many playthroughs then I choose more plays over refined vids

Aw man, should have put out the Loney Tree to sub in for the Nightmare Tree, it'd probably block stuff camera wise though. About half way through and dang you guys are doing well, I manically want to see what happens when Shira learns why they dont call it Kingdom Live Monster.
Picking up so many rules clarifications watching this. 28’46” I’m thinking “couldn’t she have given up a survival to dodge” and there’s my answer!
I like that you dont give away too much info or try to enforce choices like with the amonia vs surge, even though you know which one is clearly better (u know dont really need amonia at that stage and u can get it for free), i have been in the same spot and its hard to do it because some choices give more chance of success in the long run

Our group uses poker chips for Insanity, Survival, and the occasional weapon prof. Saves a bunch with the constant erasing of the commonly modified stats.
I hope you finish the entire campaign, looking forward to more of these videos! BTW, at 32:50 shouldn't the movement of the White Lion be reduced to 5 instead of 6 because of the earlier crit?

@Quackalope Gameplay question: when you critically wounded the lion on the femur location and reduced his movement by 1, would the -1 movement have applied to every lion move thereafter? because I believe you may have inadvertently made your fight harder, At some points your survivors were only 1 space away from being able to attack but if that -1 movement would have been applied they would have reached I believe?
It's interesting watching people play and roll, saying what they need to hit or wound before it has happened, totally different play style for me, I count up my evasion what have you after the dice is rolled, I always find if I speak it "I cant fail on this" or "I need this to hit" it always ends up going against what I say....just funny little superstitions this game creates.

I am a big fan of the game, but what makes this entertaining for me is the chemistry between you two. I have watched all the playthroughs for this campaign so far, and they have been really interesting. They also reminded me of my own games a few years back. While I enjoy the game for many the same reasons as you do, I have to say the record keeping and plethora of mechanics and modifiers that one needs to keep track off, can be really tiresome and is a big reason why I never finished a campaign. I wish at some point, a digital adaptation of the game can be made so that players get to enjoy the game without all the busywork.

20:10: you forgot the +2 evasion for standing in the tall grass, so the lion would have missed with one 3. ;)

What are the pages you are using for the gear cards? Also would love to see you do a video talking about the expansions and how to integrate them. Did I hear right that you’ll be having an interview come out with Poots soon?
They are coin pages, a 12-slot page (pockets are ~2"x2") out of which they cut a 3x3 grid. Various brands available. And don't think there's an interview coming anytime soon, Poots hasn't been out in cons giving interviews lately.

My first solo run to learn, that was my first event. My friends and I played for the first time, and that was also our first event...

Bit late to the party but here goes, first of all, consider upgrading your sheets, the stock survivor sheets (and settlement sheet) kinda suck, as Shira realized with having to awkwardly separate permanent and temporary stats. The Remastered Sheets by n4gol are excellent and can be found on BGG in the KD:M Files section.
To explain survival to Shira a lil better, it’s a resource, a type of energy you spend to perform and gain things, it’s spent and gained, it’s not a stat like evasion.
Rules goofs:
32:45 Forgot the -1 movement on the Lion.
36:20 After Alert was performed the Priority Target token would go away as the survivor was already targeted by the Basic Action while performing Alert.
47:25 Ok, so returning to the settlement, this is where I’m going to actually suggest you go against the rules, DO NOT HEAL IMMEDIATELY upon returning! Why? Because you don’t really have to and because if you do, there’s a small chance bookkeeping will get REAL MESSY, not spoiling anything but you’ll realize it if it happens to you. Only heal after resolving the settlement events for the lantern year.
1:00:25 Did you forget the resources you gained on the hunt and from crits? Did you have any resources in storage?
1:05:20 You get to choose the weapon proficiency type at Age 1, you don’t yet earn levels in it, you only get levels after having the type, wounding the monster and then getting to the aftermath.
You're definitely doing a lot better and Shiras pretty good at catching stuff like limitations and benefits. 🥳
@Quackalope When comes the next Encounter?
Interested how lighting comes into play when filming a game like this. I'm sure you have nice equipment but I was getting so much glare off of the sleeved cards and the board itself when I was playing with a friend via webcam, I just have an overhead light and light from the display case but if I turned any of those off it would be too dim to see or play.
Do you have an idea when the next one is coming out on patreon? Very cool video, it appears Shira is enjoying herself to.

Sad that the majority of KDM will be behind a paywall. I completely understand and hold no ill will for the decision. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to support creators and can catch up. But the wife and I just have too limited of a budget now and for the foreseeable future. Good luck on the campaign and I look forward to periodic updates when the pop up!

@@Quackalope I too understand the decision but also would love to see every single fight (meet me at the table's 51 video campaign is my go-to experience for this game) I'd happily watch you fight the white lion 10 times and will miss knowing the fate of each and every survivor. No criticism of patreon (I so support a number of artists there) but not sure I can personally justify a sub just for KDM content (I considered subbing last time and would have been a little bit unhappy when the KDM campaign fizzled as it would have been the prime reason for subscribing). All I can reasonably ask is you give us a quick update on survivors, fatalities and settlement progress whenever you do a youtube vid.

When you say any time you fight a new monster you will put it on youtube. Does that mean any unique new enemy or what about when you fight a new level of for example the white lion?

I know we all miss stuff when playing and it easily seen when just watching, I'm sure you realized later, but dont forget about your resources gained during the hunt and showdown, they were sitting next to you the whole time 😂 I dont think you can get proficiency when you did 🤔
Yep, weapon prof states you have to age up first to unlock the choice for weapon prof, then depart, declare your weapon prof, then wound with that weapon, so the next settlement phase youd be able to get a weapon prof if you wounded with that weapon during the next showdown. Really enjoy the KDM content.
Late to viewing but, With the intimacy roll in the settlement phase (you had a 10 off screen, then gave us the bonus few minutes of endeavours :-) ) don't you need to roll twice and pick the lowest because you chose 'survival of the fittest'?
Thereby making it harder to safely increase the population.
Is white lion the same as giga lion or is giga lion an expansion creature?
The giga white lion is different. Its called a Vignette, its not a full expansion. It uses most of the cards in the White lion AI & HL decks, and adds a few to it. The giga lion is like hunting a slightly more difficult regular white lion. If your looking to buy it, buy it during black Friday for half off. While the monster it self is nice looking and the 4 survivors it comes with are cool, there are other expansion monsters that add more to the game at the price the giga white lion normally sells for.
Gigalion is a mini-expansion variant on the White Lion.

@@Quackalope I may have misunderstood then. I thought you said you would only be posting the first encounter with each beast? It's going to be jarring with jumps in lantern years and gear, given how many fights need to be fought repeatedly.
I wasn't trying to be sarcastic, rude or to upset anyone, so sorry if that's how it came across. I genuinely hope it goes well. I will just find it irksome to not see it all.
I already pay for YT premium for my family, watch, like and sometimes comment on videos, which I appreciate doesn't directly put money in your pocket which is why I genuinely hope you do well, I just would find it too difficult to follow and can't justify the extra money for a few videos that others put out for free.
Maybe one day you'll release them all to YT as a playlist. At which point I will happily watch it all.
@@Quackalope that's just the wrong side of the Patreon line for me, I personally support several artists at $1/$2 a month. It is of course your business model and what works for you is most important, I'm just saying at $2 I'd probably hop on but at $5 it's too much for me (personally). Will continue to enjoy and support your youtube content of course.
@@cyberleish $5 is a lot for most people considering you can get single cable channels for close to that. On the other side of the coin a video like this probably takes 10 hours of time total and he’s not getting rich off it. Even at minimum wage he’s out $100 in wages and would need 20 patreons to break even. Not counting tax, lights, you tube cut, etc. I’ll subscribe just to help out for a while but I’m only in it for Kingdom Death content. Maybe different levels of patreon? I dunno.
@@CBs_Bill_from_Montana That's the dilemma for patreon artists, if you can get a following of 14,000 like Amanda Palmer then even at $2 each that's a decent amount to work with and super value to her customers. But that's a long slog to build up and it can be genre and niche dependent. Like I said, for me $1 or $2 would be an easy ask but $5 is too much - for me - with 4 kids and a bunch of games to buy and upgrade and play, and with an internet full of board game content creators on youtube to watch.
