I would’ve gone with the Millennium Flyer trains for GCI, their introduction was a surprising throwback to the golden age of wooden coasters and a big move away from the dominance of PTC trains
I agree. They also didn't invent the wood twister coaster like the video implies, they just brought it into the 21st century.
Do any of the milleniums have buzz bars only? If not they aren’t close to ptc trains
@@joeslovick4643 most PTC trains don’t have them either
And on a related note, PTC’s greatest contribution should have been _their_ trains. Love them or hate them, they’ve defined what a wooden roller coaster train should be for over half a century.
@@DAOzz83 Specifically the Buzz Bars restraints on the old trains
Personally I feel like Zamperla’s biggest contribution, coaster wise, was the Golden Horse lawsuit over intellectual property. It brought Golden Horse’s property theft to light.
Your done 💀💀💀 but your speaking straight up facts
💀
Please I’m crying
The fact that Zamperla sold one motorbike coaster to China, only for Golden Horse to reverse engineer and copy it almost exactly is wild 🥴
@@coasterknowledge1982 you
Worlds of Fun has turned off the brake run on Mamba so now the airtime on the back run of airtime hills is incredible. I highly recommend getting out there before they possibly revert it back
Alright, now all we need is Valleyfair and Dorney Park to do the same!
@@alexmills9223 and Sea world San Antonio!
@@OliversMobileAdventures Steel Eel still kicks even with the MCBR at a dead stop
Morgan is known for airtime-less hyper coasters... and Steel Eel at SeaWorld San Antonio, which has almost painful airtime. It's only a mini hyper, but you're in your seat *maybe* half the time. Just nuts.
Morgan also built _Phantom's Revenge_ at Kennywood and _Superman: El Ultimo Escape_ at Six Flags Mexico, so their track record is pretty decent. _Mamba_ and _Steel Force_ reportedly run better now, too, actually having airtime in their second halves.
I think that Hopkins’ greatest contribution would be their log flumes and shoot the chutes rides for their sheer popularity and also being a cheaper alternative to other water rides at the time. Don’t get me wrong though, I still love their weird vertical loops.
Hopkins built the world's greatest walrus-themed terrain kiddie coaster.
I think Vekoma's full scale clone coasters -- Boomerang, SLC -- was an innovation. Even though we're sort of burdened with the fallout now, they were some of the better coasters many got to ride in their time. I'm still waiting for the flying coaster promise to be realized.
Maurer's spinning coasters have had such a huge impact, even more than the low land use coaster (skyloop).
RCCA and Dinn’s best contribution was showing the limits of wooden coasters so we no longer build gigantic rough airtimeless monstrosities
Sad but true.
maybe gci or the gravity group can bring it back
maybe gravity group because that's what they are doing
pushing the limits of a wooden coaster
The tidbit about Drehgondelbahn is great. Looking forward to each manufacturer's worst curse.
This was actually put on my list this morning 🙌
@@AirtimeThrills we need that vid! also could you do coasters that underachieved and also coasters that overachieved
Shoutout to Zierer's Tivolis, the OG family all-steel coasters that moved away from the steel/wood hybrid of Arrow's mine trains.
I have a lot of fondness for that model, especially if they still have the ladybug trains.
The medium variant's pre-station drop is surprisingly intense
B&M has so many great models. My personal favorite is the wing coaster. I wish more parks would add them 🥲
If they converted Silver Bullet to a wing coaster it might actually be good.
There’s lots of wing coasters out there
Dinn's greatest contribution was giving RMC a bad coaster to work with
Dinn also did a great job relocating older wooden coasters, namely _Phoenix_ at Knoebels and _Wild One_ at Six Flags America.
Had no idea Zierer re-invented the spinning coaster, that really surprised me
Personally, I think Pinfari's biggest contribution was not their Zyclone or their Galaxy models, but their Compact looping coasters, like Star Flyer at Star City is a dual looping coaster by Pinfari, only sitting somewhere smaller than 1 acre.
Videos since Airtime Thrills ripped on Goliath: 0
3:28 Welp I guess we'll forget the fact that they were the first company to introduce the box track design (as Bolliger and Mabillard still worked for them back then)
Also cant forget John A Miller also was the 1st guy to use natural terrain to his advantage.
His biggest contribution to the industry (and possibly the biggest one outside of inventing coasters) is the upstop wheel, which brought negative G's to the table.
@@ElectriKong- absolutely.
Pinfari Zyklons don't seem like that much of a contribution until you realize how many parks got started with cheap, portable coasters to put themselves on the map
Giovanola designed the box track used by initially intamin, and then B&M. This was one of the greatest coaster breakthroughs, so they certainly would get more than the waste of space award for me. Great video though regardless
IIRC, Bolliger and Mabillard designed the box spine when they were working for Giovanola.
Fun video. For me it’s a top 3. Arrow with the tubular track, RMC with the the Ibox track, and Intamin with the LSM launches. Those are all game changers. I sincerely wonder when other manufacturers will pay to use the Ibox track system. Just perfect!
Giovanola: exists
Air Time Thrills: *And I took that Personally*
😂 goliath ruined magic mountains chance at ever getting a good hyper. I'm mad
B&M inverts and hyper coasters are among the best and some of my favorite rides. You can't go wrong with them!
Did Mack come up with the over the shoulder lapbars? I think they kickstarted an improvemt in coaster comfort when blue fire debuted.
I would say the same. Their seats were revolutionary back then
Those are nice when done right. The only one i actually liked was Velocicoasters
Exactly this. The transition to lap bars on coasters with high negative forces and inversions was the best thing to happen in the past 10 years. Mack, Intamin, Gerstlauer, RMC, they are all so much better than they would be with over the shoulder restraints.
@@alext288 B&M should take notes. While I know people love their clamshell lap bars, some people complain about their vest restraints. New lap bars for their inverting coasters would be neat to see.
Always good to have an appearance from BPB :) I’m yet to do Ensō unfortunately.
Hopkins contribution is probably their giant chute the chutes rides or something water ride related cause they built many more water rides than coasters
As a fellow Okie, I got excited spotting all the Frontier City footage you used. Very loose definition of "excited" however!
5:32 except Phantom. That has insane air time
True, not their layout but still they did an incredible job with it
@@AirtimeThrills well not fully their layout but half the ride is.
I think Mack's greatest contibution has been their ergonomic seat and overhead lap bar design on inverting coasters. Blue Fire was miles ahead of what anyone else was doing at the time and everyone (not least Intamin, with varying degrees of success) has copied it.
Its a good pick. Not my favorite restraint but better than OTSR
Most of these companies I have not heard of. Cci built Mega Zeph. I thank B&M for Behemoth, Leviathan and Yukon Striker. Vekoma for The Bat, Silver Streak and Flight Deck. No Togo rides not since Skyrider was closed. What a very interesting video. I enjoyed it. 😉
Great vid! I think togo’s best contribution was heartline roll
Fun idea and some things I didn't know or think of. Some of these were a stretch...but kudos for including every manufacturer that you could!
It seems every time in bored, you uploaded a new video 2 hours ago and I am happy
IMO CCI's biggest contribution was making really cheap wooden coasters. They gave a big jump start to small parks like Holiday World, Silverwood, Adventureland, Indiana Beach, and Mount Olympus. Even for a bigger park like Knott's it allowed them to get a *world class* coaster instead of a smaller scale one.
CCI seemingly singlehandedly enabled a bunch of small parks to grow from little roadside attractions to full amusement parks, and that's a pretty big contribution, even if there's no one technological thing you could point to for it.
I feel like each manufacturer did a good job by contributing in their own ways like Zamperla really contributing with their awesome and unique flat rides making it a good experience for families, Intamin with their awesome Mega coasters and launch coasters making a awesome and intense ride experience, RMC contribution with their awesome, intense, and airtime filling rides also with contributing with converted a bad wooden coasters to an awesome RMC. B&M I feel like is Inverted Coasters most definitely making some forceful, intense, and whippy ride experience.
According to Wikipedia, the Galaxi model of coaster was not built by Pinfari, but a competing company (also based in Italy) called S.D.C. They seem to have been competitors with similar types of coasters (S.D.C. with the Galaxi, Pinfari with the Zyklon).
I think vekoma's best contribution was the launched flying coaster.
Vekoma is also largely responsible for the rise of cloned coaster layouts. While they lack originality in the absence of theming, cloned layouts are more affordable than custom layouts, which helps more parks afford new coasters.
I’m surprised for gravity group you didn’t mention the fact that they pioneered inversions on wooden roller coasters! They’ve done it several times and I love the gimmick
This is kind of like the Arrow/Schwarzkopf launch argument. They came out at the same exact time, like Hades 360 and Outlaw Run. So its hard to argue it was super influential when another company was doing the same thing at the same time
Ooh interesting video idea!
I'd say that other than supercompact coasters (which likely influenced Sky Rocket 2 and Stingray), Maurer's contributions seem to be popularising/demonstrating inversion-friendly lap bars and non-inverting versions of elements
Thank you for using my waste of space award idea for Goliath!
This is fascinating
Here’s an idea for a mega video ranking every single one of your 538 credits including kitty coasters defunct coasters and family coasters and Fair roller coasters
That would probably take ages to do but would be fun.
giovanola's waste of space award TOOK ME OUT. i was screaming
I’m a simple man. I see an airtime thrills upload, I throw a like.
Zamperla made the legendary daddy pig’s roller coaster FYI
Intamin: SkyRush's lap-bar and Superman's straight track!!!
The anti rmc I’m wheezing 😭😭
Awesome video I’m about watch
Giovanola kinda almost made a great contribution with their proposed Tilt coaster model, and it’s really sad they never got to build one before going out of business in 2004.
I would have given b&m the award for being the first manufacturers to design coasters using computers, eliminating a lot of the jank that came from old arrow/vacoma type coasters.
They weren't. That was actually good ol Vekoma with Goudurix at Parc Asterix
I would say B&Ms biggest contribution is their consistent quality.
Everyone knows B&Ms greatest contribution is converting firebird into a floorless you can see they were following the footsteps of olden day Vekoma with that transformation
Montu and Raptor my fav inverts. Can’t ride the Woodies anymore, bad back, but I rode the Rebel Yell the first year it opened, same with super dooper looper and Loch Ness.
Riddlers Revenge is the best Stand up ever at MM.
Am I the only one who
Prefers flying Dutchman’s to B&M flyers? Idk why but I find the Flying Dutchman more intense as a model
I’ve only been on Superman at SFGAd and Batwing at SFA, and maybe it’s because I’ve only ridden each once or twice, but I preferred Batwing for sure.
I honestly feel like B&M’s greatest contribution isn’t just the Invert model, but also the Wing, Dive, Hyper/Giga, and Flyer models as well, especially the Wing model because it truly defined the art of coaster innovation.
Sure, there were similar models in the past, with Arrow inventing the 4D coaster (and sadly going under after having built what would be their only one which is X2), and Intamin with Furius Baco at Port Aventura (seats are fixed but the ride only has one inversion with is an in-line twist), but B&M truly knocked it out of the park with their wing model back in 2011, with Raptor at Gardaland in Italy, and as such, many parks wanted to buy one so badly, and thus, between 2012 and 2015, we saw many installations of B&M Wings at various parks.
Swarm at Thorpe Park became the first (and so far only) Wing coaster in Great Britain in 2012, Wild Eagle at Dollywood and X-Flight at Six Flags Great America, and Gatekeeper at Cedar Point became the first 3 Wings in the United States in 2012 and 2013 respectively, and China got their first Wing Coaster with Parrot Coaster at Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in 2014. Thunderbird at Holiday World, installed in 2015, would be B&M’s first wing coaster with a launch, as well as the world’s first launched wing coaster in 8 years since Furius Baco, B&M’s first launched coaster since Incredible Hulk in 1999.
Since then, most of the newest wing coasters have mostly been installed at parks in China, the only exception being Fēnix at Toverland in the Netherlands, which opened in 2018.
B&M did master the wing coaster but i wouldn't call it a great contribution since they didnt invent side seating
@@AirtimeThrills I guess that’s understandable.
But I still think B&M mastered it with the other models. In fact, I also believe the other great contribution would be the Pretzel Loop inversion found on most of their Flyers (only exceptions being Galactica at Alton Towers and Sky-Scrapper at that park in China I forget the name of, but even the ladder itself is unique as it is the only B&M flyer to feature a Vertical Loop, something usually found the Vekoma’s Flying Dutchman coasters when it comes to flying coasters)
The man! The Master! Airtime CHRIS
The Waste of Space award made me crack up
B&m biggest contribution is the invert bc they ended up making family hypers somehow (i haven’t ridden any of their gigas tho)
funny that intamins greatest contribution is their greatest contribution because it is the most reliable way of doing a thing
"[GCI's wooden twister coaster] hasn't really been adopted by other manufacturers"
Er... Gravity Group?
Might've gone with the freespin for S&S, if not just because they've made more of them than they have air launches. Could argue it's a little too similar to the Zacspin, but then the air launch is also pretty similar to a hydraulic launch.
I wouldnt call GG's catalog full of wood twisters. At least not the way GCI does it. Those just hit different
Boardwalk bullet being a glaring exception
Random video idea… what about a video on some “What If”s in the coaster/theme park world? Or maybe ideas/concepts/rides that were almost great, but didn’t make it for some reason.
Can you please Rank all The stand up roller coaster that you have ridden or do the stand up coasters by Prime ride time and in the video you rank all stand up roller coasters that you have ridden
If you're a fan of Stand Ups that's easy. Riddler's at MM is the best and it's not even close. Ride that one and none of the others remaining will matter.
I hate to argue with you, but I think you got the wrong answer on two of the manufacturer's. Arrow and Rocky Mountain Construction both have the same greatest contribution. And that is Alan fricken Schilke
Yeah he single-handedly came up with two of the greatest coaster Concepts
You should make a video about the worst and best color schemes on a roller coaster because with all the new color schemes I want to know your favorite and least favorite color schemes (If you are gonna do this I bet Nitro will be on the worst list)
Actually Gemini at cedar point was built in 1978. A hybrid coaster.
Yeah but I was talking about the wood track on a steel structure, so the wood track hybrids as opposed to the steel track hybrids on the wood structure, those were a lot more common with Arrow going back to the 60s
You forgot Reverchon, but there isn’t much to say about them anyway.
I believe their spinning wild mice are decent, but I can't say for sure.
Oh come on, Giovanola pretty much invented the box-spline track used by B&M and some Intamins before B&M even existed when they were a subcontractor for Intamin. That should be their contribution. Edit: Also, how is Mack's not basically inventing the wild mouse coaster?
you can't call morgen hypers airtimeless anymore
Keep the trims off and we'll talk
@@AirtimeThrills Mamba has a new control panel and the trims weren't hitting when I rode it last week!
@@AirtimeThrills done
For Togo, what about those extreme heartline spinny things in Japan? Like at Fuji Q Highland i thknk
You should have shouted out ART Engineering for the world's tallest drop track and Dynamic Attractions for the most delayed roller coaster (I know dynamic and I are noble Canadians an I will NEVER come close to an economy ticket to Abu Dhabi, but it needs to be said)
Was B&M the first company to use computers profiling for inversions? Or did someone else do it first?
If so, I think that’s B&M’s best innovation because that’s how we can have custom sized large inversions, rather than Arrow just putting tiny loops high off the ground.
8:07 seems familiar
Prediction: He will say the best contribution for DINN or RCA is "Going out of business"
Vekoma...Tilt Coaster?
Congrats to Giovanola for taking that coveted award
I will not take this Giovanola slander >:( haha
Shellrazor Does not have the record for the worlds steepest roller coaster the saxophone rides do
Technically true
Saxophones are inversions. I believe the steepest a drop can be without being an inversion is 135 degrees
Roar was good at 6 flags america in Largo MD, for the first few years, than garbage after, same with Grizzly at KD.
You missed hopkins
Well the morgan thing kinda doesnt matter now with falcons flight
The worst curse for Giovanola is big boring coasters, but I'm a Goliath fanboy.
Chris before I sub to your baseball channel (even tho I will anyways lol), who’s your team?
Not even mentioning FLY as an innovation when talking about Vekoma and Flying coasters....
The dutchman was a much greater innovation than FLY
@@AirtimeThrills that might be but to not even mention that they have revamped the Flyer and the flying system is a miss in my eyes ...
Zamperlas Biggest constitution Is there gravity family kitty coaster
Vekoma; boomerang
B&m=leviathan
what if they rmcd sob
No Schwarzkopf, or did I just miss it?
You missed it lol...its alphabetical so you can find it pretty easy
@@AirtimeThrills I didn’t even realize. Thanks for the heads up!
The hate on Goliath/Titan is so stupid is such a load of crap
The biggest waste of time goes to.......... GIOVANOLA!!!!! YAY
200th comment
I think Giovanola's greatest contribution was the creation of the box spined track which B&M now uses. Although the first coaster to use this was sold under Intamin, it was Giovanola who built it for them
I believe Walter Bolliger and Claude Mabillard designed that track, too, before they left Giovanola to found B&M. Intamin's track changed when they were forced to switch fabricators after their relationship with Giovanola deteriorated.
@@reillywalker195 I have heard that as well, but even if they were the ones who designed it it was still during their tenure at Giovanola. The coasters made for Intamin under contract by Giovanola even if engineered by the founders of B&M does not make them B&M coasters. Being that these coasters are still Intamin coasters built by Giovanola, this would then make the track design Giovanola. My point is Giovanola deserves credit for the track as their leadership commissioned it just as B&M deserves credit for being the first to make good coasters from it.
@@colinschmitz8297 I believe Claud and Walter ( BM ) designed the track while at Giovanola, then left, and during the time they were establishing B&M, Giovanola used the design and their only coasters using this track were Goliath, and Anaconda at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg. Ive been to Joberg many times, and the first time i went to Golf Reef City, the first thing i heard was the B&M roar from the Anaconda. I was then quite surprised to find it was two across seating, and later discovered it was Giovanola not B&M. Anaconda is an incredibly intense coaster, and one of my favourites. If you get a chance to visit Joberg, then go!
Giovanola are the ones who invented the tilt coaster, they didn't sell one before going bankrupt but Vekoma took the concept to give us Gravity Max
They also gave us B&M
It’s a shame they went out, they’d been around for over a century too
@@ryanstrembicki5234 technically Intamin gave us Giovanola who then gave us B&M, so I think at the end of the day Intamin deserves the credit for B&M’s existence.
@@JVR10893 although they didn’t create them they definitely did work with them a lot so I can see your point. I find it funny that Intamin sort of created one of their biggest rivals.
@@JVR10893 Intamin was only selling amd marketing the rides that Giovanola manufatucred. They were basically an international ride broker before they eventually became a manufacturer themselves in the 90´s.
I know its not a manufacturer but John A. Miller invented the upstop wheel. And id say thats the biggest contribution of them all. We have several John A Miller coasters at Kennywood. And they are amazing. Just had to throw that in.
The invention he was talking about the the invention of spring loaded upstop wheels.
For Arrow Dynamics I'd have to go with the 4th dimension coaster. If it weren't for X2 I don't think we would have B&M Wings or S&S Freespins.
That was on my list on my Arrow video but it was 6th i think
smh you forgot E&F Miler Industries, whose best contribution was that coaster that got lots of publicity due to being destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. Truly the most worthy of all the contributions.
A lot of people's first coasters are probably E&F Miler coasters, as well. If not for those kiddie and family rides, a lot of people may have never gotten brave enough to ride bigger rides.
@@reillywalker195 That's true though. They've made lots of kiddie coasters, so in all seriousness have made some good contributions
I think vekoma's contract with rmc to sell their stuff in europe is also a great contribution
In the other hemisphere, it's mostly single-handedly getting Indonesia to have most coasters in Southeast Asia, through partnership with Transmart
I think that Schwarzkopf’s biggest contribution is the fly wheel launch. Montazooma’s revenge was the first launch coaster in the world of any kind.
Their weight drop launched Shuttle Loops came first, as well as some of Arrow's winch launched loops.
I thought about this, but Arrow and Schwarzkopf both came out with the first launch coasters in 1977 so I dont think one or the other was super influential. They kind of cancel each other out in that sense, if one didnt exist the other would have
@@ElectriKong- Although I think Arrow did it slightly earlier, Schwarzkopf definitely made the first "true" launching rollercoasters. The launches on Areow shuttle-loops are more like a push, whereas Schwarzkopf had actual proper launches.
PTC for their cars. They were and still are all over the place. A classic.
