YYZ is the Toronto Pearson Airport in Canada. These guys never forgot their roots and they are so talented. RIP drummer Neil Peart, who wrote the songs.
I agree with many others when I recommend that you listen/watch Rush's live version of "YYZ" (the "z" is pronounced the Canadian way, so it rhymes with "bread"). The live version is from Brazil, Rio to be exact, from back in 2003. That concert was the last show of their Vapour Trails tour. Even the AUDIENCE is gonna flip your mind! 😎🎸
The song, like the airport code, is "Y-Y-Z", not "yizz". What you heard at the end of the video was voice-overs by Geddy and Alex, and Alex's reference to "yizz" was a joke on the actual name of the song. Incredible instrumental! That was their second official instrumental. If you want to be truly amazed, listen to their song from the 1978 Hemispheres album called "La Villa Strangiato"! The official video is them playing the song live on stage to an empty arena. I would recommend listening to the song in the original studio version. That version, from Hemispheres, is simply incredible and is pure perfection! You will be astonished!
Bring up the video of Neil's drum solo in Frankfort - it's like his brain, hands, and feet can keep 3 different beats at one point. Plus, the drum set surprise is not to be missed!
La villa Strangiatto is the next level instrumental work you have to check out, start with the studio version off the Hemispheres album. It’s almost impossible from 3 people and many artists have used it as benchmark for next level play. Enjoy the ride.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣 YIZZ! 🤣🤣🤣 Its actually the letters Y, Y, Z which is the luggage tag for their airport in Toronto! Like LAX or NYC! Alex would hear this as they landed! The opening is literally Morse Code! Now you have to check out their other Instrumentals like 'La Villa Strangiato', a composition created from Alex having a Nightmare! ☺ Phenomenal piece of music. Another favorite of mine is 'Where's My Thing'. Live we would get a Drum Solo in the middle of an Instrumental while they showed Ged & Al backstage having Tea. 🤗 Seriously, who does that?!? ☺🐰
I am really loving your reactions to Rush.... Not a single song from this band is weak.... Over 40 years of pure bangers.... Going to dig you going farther down the rabbit hole.... Thanks Brother!
you need to see this live with the brazilian audience singing along with them.where's my thing here it is live in dallas. includes a neil drum solo. the weapon live. yes that is a horror host introducing them. working man live in cleveland time cmachine tour 2011. they are a lot of fun to watch. just watching them play is amazing.
Another excellent instrumental, performed live, is "Where's My Thing? / Here it is!", from their Clockwork Angels tour. It includes a drum solo by Neil.
I"m loving the fact that so many youtubers are just now finding out about the GREATEST Band ever!!! I am sorry, that they will never get the chance to see these guys LIVE, because it's outta this world.!!! RIP Neil :(
Hahahaha. I've seen a lot of people who just aren't used to hearing an instrumental. This is the 2nd instrumental Rush made. They made more over the years, this being one of their most popular.
You should hear live off of exit stage left. Neil throws a drum solo in the middle of it. And it's awesome. Even if you don't react to it. You need to listen to it. It will blow your mind how well it sounds live. And BTW they have a few instrumentals that are awesome.
Another great reaction!! It's pronounced Y Y Z, not yizz, lol. These guys were pure magic. If you liked this song, you should check out La Villa Strangiato...I think it's there best instrumental. See what you think.
This one! From the Live in Rio album, in front of 80,000 insane Brazilian fans, where they just blow the heads of the fans and guaranteed it registered on the Richter earthquake scale at that stadium.
Some songs don’t need words - at least when you’re as good as these three guys are. They can let the music tell the story. Many of their albums contain an instrumental. I think you would really like La Villa Strangiato, which is a multi-part instrumental based on Alex‘s nightmares. Cheers!
I'm sure folk will let you know more about this song, like watching the live version from Rio or the song is based around on Morse Code, which spells out YYZ. I'd like to focus on the fact, that Rush lost the Grammy to The Police's "Behind my Camel". This is a good example that shows you how rigged the Grammy's actually are. Anybody, with zero understanding of music, would every even nominate Behind my Camel for a Grammy, let alone chose it over YYZ. If you get a chance to compare both compositions, the Police song is basically a loop repeated over and over, and requires zero skill to produce. YYZ on the other hand is actually a real instrumental, played by top notch musicians. The Police I consider very good musicians, but even they were embarrassed to receive a Grammy for what amounts to filling space on an album.
Exit stage left version of “la villa strangiato”. The greatest guitar solo you will ever hear. Makes me wonder why Alex never got the love everyone else did.
I'm really enjoying your reactions to the music that has been the soundtrack to my life and times 🤘💯. The syncopated rhythm that Neil starts the song with, and sets the main motif for the song is basically the Morse code for the letters Y-Y-Zed. As was mentioned in previous comments, Y-Y-ZED is the Toronto airport code. Airport transponders transmit the Morse code designation on a specific frequency so that pilots are able to locate it in an emergency. Some other Rush instrumental music: "La Villa Strangiato (an exercise in self indulgence)" "Where's My Thing" "Leave That Thing Alone" "The Main Monkey Business" "Hope" (Alex by his own self 🔥🔥🤘) And "Western Sunset" from the Envy Of None project. It's also Alex Lifeson alone on an acoustic guitar. "Western Sunset" is Alex's farewell tribute to Neil Peart. It is a beautiful piece of music. Tioraidh an-drasta 🏴
This is one of the best instrumentals ever and the video of them performing this live in Rio is incredible, you really should watch that video. However. I think "La Villa Strangiato" is even better and definitely more complex. Another one you have to check out, thanks!
As stated before, the first beats of the song are the letters Y Y Z (Code for Toronto Int Airport) in Morse code. In text it looks like this: - . - - - . - - - - . .
bro just discovered instrumental music! Rush have a few instrumental tracks but this is their most popular. My personal favorite of their is "La Villa Strangiato" song 🤟
Just found you channel brother. Rush has 40 years of material to explore. Enjoy every minute of it. I know I and my weirdo friends did. I'll sub you and pass it on to the next guy.
It's an instrumental. There are lots of great ones out there too. Allman Brothers immediately come to mind. You should check them out one day, if you haven't already.
Instrumentals are from the early days of rock and jazz and blues...Hendrix does quite a few instrumentals much like PinkFloyd tends to before it becomes a song. lol
Check out the version on Exit Stage Left for one of the best drum solos you'll ever hear. (I like it better than the Brazil concert.) It will change you.
the album 'Exit Stage Left" is a live album and was the first time I heard the Neil Peart drum solo on this song. He has improved on it. ua-cam.com/video/LWRMOJQDiLU/v-deo.html
Try also songs: Circumstances, analog Kid, subdivisions, bravado, jacobs ladder, the camera eye, that should keep you busy for awhile and watch the live versions!
It’s pronounced Y Y Z It’s each letter by itself. It’s not a word. In Canada the letter “Z” is pronounced as zed not zee. The two guards in that video assumed it was a word when it’s actually each letter Y Y Z,… pronounced like,… “why why zed” The chime you hear at the beginning of the instrumental is the Morse code, for Y Y Z,… the Toronto airport.
No lyrics in this one, Rush instrumentals are always just the band showing off and jamming and they are just as entertaining and jaw dropping as their other songs. Others you should check out are La Villa Strangiato (best instrumental ever imo), Leave That Thing Alone, Where's My Thing, The Main Monkey Business and Malignant Narcissism. YYZ was nominated for a Grammy but lost out to The Polices putrid Behind My Camel.
Dude, the "yizz" thing was just a joke in the video. It's Y-Y-Z, which is the 3 letter code for the Toronto Airport, which made them happy, because it signaled that they were going home.
Welcome to RUSH! First...have to correct one thing. YYZ is not pronounced "Yizzz". (that was sarcastic humor in the video) It's pronounced the actual letters Y..Y..Z..and the Z is pronounced Zed which is the Canadian way of pronouncing Z. It is the 3 letter airport code for the Toronto Canada Airport which is their hometown. But the REALLY COOL PART is the very is the actual Morse Code letters YYZ...which is what they heard when flying into Toronto on the airplane navigation radio...the Morse code of YYZ, so they incorporated it into the beginning and end of the song. Welcome my friend and I hope you do LA VILLA STRANGIATO next! Get ready to have your mind blown and your jaw drop...again
Pronounced as the 3 letters Y Y Z. They have alot of older songs with no lyrics and instrumentals within a 20 min song.Just one long story with a mixture of both.Example 2112 overture
We Canadians call it YYZed, just to be Canadians, I guess. They played a killer version of this a few months ago (with Danny Carey) at the Taylor Hawkins Tribute. After seven years on the bench and at nearly 70 years old, they still smoked. Check it out.
And 2 other songs, with Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana) and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers). And zed isn't just a Canadian thing. It's in most of the English speaking world. Just not the U.S. for some reason.
YYZ is the Toronto Pearson Airport in Canada. These guys never forgot their roots and they are so talented. RIP drummer Neil Peart, who wrote the songs.
Tons of Toronto references all over the place!!!!! CN Tower, etc.
I can't prove it in court but I think Danny Carey is on their radar. He's that good.
YYZ is the transmitter code for that airport.
Neil wrote the Lyrics - easy job on this song :), songs were (on the whole) all three of them
Also, the opening hits on the triangle are Morse code for yyz. (in this video they even show the dots and dashes)
You have to listen to the live performance of this in Brazil....the audience singing along to an instrumental.....fire, baby
Yes...absolutely!
One of the craziest audiences ever. They became the 4th member of RUSH.
FACTS!!
That’s exactly what I thought he was gonna do… it truly is the only way to react to this song… and there’s no words just humming😂🎉😂🎉❤❤❤❤❤
he HAS to watch that! The crowd is so HYPE!!!!! RIO has the best fans ever. Like with Queen - Love of my Life.
I agree with many others when I recommend that you listen/watch Rush's live version of "YYZ" (the "z" is pronounced the Canadian way, so it rhymes with "bread"). 🤣My man just fell victim to the infamous Rush quirky sense of humor. Lol YIZ! 🤣 Love it!
This song really drives home just how good Neil Pert was on the drums.
The live version from Rio is off the hook! Crowd is absolutely going nuts.
One of THE BEST instrumentals in the history of music right here
🤣😂🤣😂🤣 YIZZ! 🤣🤣🤣 Its actually the letters Y, Y, Z which is the luggage tag for their airport in Toronto! Like LAX or NYC! Alex would hear this as they landed! The opening is literally Morse Code! RUSH do, they like their soup and their tea.
The next Rush instrumental should be La Villa Srangiato.... You too will be blown away.... No lyrics required.
I am really loving your reactions to Rush.... Not a single song from this band is weak.... Over 40 years of pure bangers.... Going to dig you going farther down the rabbit hole.... Thanks Brother!
YYZ live in Rio!
A must- see!

As stated previously, you need to view the YYZ live in RIO. You’ll be amazed!!!
I'm with Mr Murphy, the live performance in Brazil..............one of the best live videos in the history of live videos.
I don't think you've reacted to 'Subdivisions' by RUSH yet. Another 'mind blowing' masterpiece.
Yeah, if you want truly poignant lyrics, Subdivisions is my go-to.
Loving the reactions. La Villa Strangiato is another master piece.
Hahahaha. I've seen a lot of people who just aren't used to hearing an instrumental. This is the 2nd instrumental Rush made. They made more over the years, this being one of their most popular.
The live video of this from Brazil will have your jaw on the ground.
This is what a band sounds like when it's 3 virtuosos

You haven't lived until you see this live in Rio! ✌🏼
Time for La villa Strangiato for your 2nd?? TY
YYZ is just the identifier for Toronto airport. And the little secret is that the Morse Code for the letters Y Y Z are part of the music.
one of Rush's many instrumentals
I'm sure folk will let you know more about this song, like watching the live version from Rio or the song is based around on Morse Code, which spells out YYZ. Glad you made it to this song brother 👍, looking forward to seeing your reaction 👍👊😎🇨🇦
not to mention that the drums are playing morris code yyz for the record at the beginning
Exit stage left version of “la villa strangiato”. The greatest guitar solo you will ever hear. Makes me wonder why Alex never got the love everyone else did.

Some other Rush instrumental music:

"Where's My Thing"
"Leave That Thing Alone"
"The Main Monkey Business"
"Hope" (Alex by his own self 🔥🔥🤘)
And "Western Sunset" from the Envy Of None project. It's also Alex Lifeson alone on an acoustic guitar. "Western Sunset" is Alex's farewell tribute to Neil Peart. It is a beautiful piece of music.
Tioraidh an-drasta 🏴
You could add “Brown’s Bane” to the list, too.

YYZ = Why Why Zed !!! It's the Toronto Airport Call letters. The opening croctale part is the Morse Code for the airport!!! : )
Yyz were the call letters that the airport tower used for them whenever they landed inCanada
Yyz rush in Rio has lyrics..
Get to "Limelight" already! If you want two other great instrumentals by Rush, listen to "La Villa Strangiato" and "The Main Monkey Business".
Just found you channel brother. Rush has 40 years of material to explore. Enjoy every minute of it. I know I and my weirdo friends did. I'll sub you and pass it on to the next guy.
RUSH IS AWESOME

Long live RUSH
Great drum solo from live in Frankfurt tour
Instrumentals are from the early days of rock and jazz and blues...Hendrix does quite a few instrumentals much like PinkFloyd tends to before it becomes a song. lol
Stevie Ray Vaughn does an awesome instrumental version of Jimi Hendrix’s LIttle Wing. Definitely worth a watch.
@@labajadaman Agree

YYZ are the letters on pant flys. No joke.
Sincerely
Yes. YYZ = great. La Villa Strangiato = greatest.
You should check out their live concert footage for all their music...
Do yourself favor and watch or react to the Live in Rio performance. Not only was the band in a groove but the crowd was 🔥 too. Legendary video.
It is the letters Why-why-zaid (zee in French).
Clarification on you point og?
Never mind you good.
YYZ is the airport code for Toronto Pearson Airport … “home”.
LIVE IN RIO!
LIVE IN RIO!
LIVE IN RIO!!
I'm not sure if you missed it, but "La Villa Strangianto" from Exit Stage Left NEEDS to be on your list of reaction/reviews.
Its pronounced Y-Y-Z, separate letters. They were just goofing around at the end....That was Alex and Geddy acting like cops.
The YYZ reference... They are playing the morse code for the letter “Y”, “Y”, “Z”.
A must live in Rio!
Listen to the live version from Brazil. Got to see it.
Definitely check out the live version
Rush In RIO
La Villa Strangiato next please
Check out the version on Exit Stage Left for one of the best drum solos you'll ever hear. (I like it better than the Brazil concert.) It will change you.
Watch "Cottontail " with Neil drumming in the earlier days. Fun times
Buddy Rich tribute
My brother, you need to watch their documentary. Rush - Beyond the Lighted Stage. Gene Simmons referred to them as Canadian Zepplin.
In Canada it’s pronounced “why, why, zed”. Airport code for Toronto.
the album 'Exit Stage Left" is a live album and was the first time I heard the Neil Peart drum solo on this song. He has improved on it. ua-cam.com/video/LWRMOJQDiLU/v-deo.html

A little tidbit, the very start is Morse code for YYZ.
Welcome to RUSH! First...have to correct one thing. YYZ is not pronounced "Yizzz". It is an instrumental :) instrumentals are quite common amongst really good musicians. It’s not ‘Yiz’ tho; it’s YYZ or YYZed
nah, it’s not “yizz,” it’s Y-Y-Z, it’s the airport code for Pearson Airport in Toronto
YYZ is awesome but their best instrumental is LA Villa Strangiato.
It was a joke. Not Yizz! Y-Y-Z. You had it right before they said that. And it’s actually YYZed for the Canadians

You need to watch, "Rush - YYZ Live (Rio)
👍👍👍
Great reaction! I LOVE Bonham, but Neil is in a different class.
Wait until you hear La Villa Strangiato :)
