The concept of the fourth wall is fairly recent in the history of drama. But characters technically breaking the fourth wall has existed for a very long time, even back to the ancient Greeks.
Abbott and Costello broke the 4th wall in many of their movies. But, right before Monty Python put out The Holy Grail a movie came out that took the 4th wall and twisted it into a pretzel, then beat it with a rubber hose: Blazing Saddles.
@OfficialDNJmoviehouse one of the best and funniest westerns ever made. Mel Brooks took the period of reconstruction and life in a small western town to the extreme.
Monty Python humour is definitely different. Not every joke works for everyone, that was true of their tv series as well, but the ones that do land are very funny. The members of Monty Python are all really well educated, and there are definite depths to their humour if you're in the know. The battle of the black knight vs the green knight, the story of the Lady in the Lake, even down to the way they always say "run away" rather than "retreat" because the word "retreat" is of French origin and wouldn't have been available in English until after William the Conqueror - there's always more to know and learn... but then, a lot of it is just fun for fun's sake too :)
Oh interesting about the retreat bit, we had no idea! There were parts that were really funny for us, but some of the jokes ran for long time and so if it didn't land it wasn't landing for the entire time.
I have a video of me and my friends quoting this movie back in the 80’s! I love the channel, don’t give up! It takes time to build then out of nowhere it’ll boom. I Love both of you. Richard, you’re a handsome guy but Jane has got to be THE most beautiful woman on UA-cam! I know it’s not about looks, but I’m just a weirdo on UA-cam and wanted to throw out a compliment to Jane. Everyone likes a little ego boost! Thanks for the reactions you two!
when i first saw this, i mustv been in the right mode to enjoy it, because i really did, but then it actually started giving me a bad vibe later on, so its weird in that way, and i dont blame any reactors that arent feeling it, but i still enjoy when a reactor is feeling it
This is my favourite Monty Python movie. Your 3/5 is fair, if you're not used to this type of humour. I've seen a couple of reactors barely laugh at all watching this, so at least you had a better time than them. In my experience us Europeans find Monty Python (both the movies and their TV show) funnier than North Americans do. I guess we are used to different types of comedy, and there's nothing wrong with that. In Europe a lot of people hate the laugh tracks that American comedy shows often have. For example here in Finland the dry and sarcastic British humour has always been very popular.
I wonder if this one will resonate with us more on a 2nd or 3rd view. It felt 'funnier' during editing and it might be due to us just being more used to the style now. Also it's funny you bringing up the laugh tracks, as the TV show Friends is our guilty pleasure and we have that one running all the time!
@@OfficialDNJmoviehouse Yes, if you haven't seen Monty Python before, it might take a few viewings to get used to their comedy. I think you might enjoy Life of Brian more than this, if religious humour doesn't offend you (the movie was actually banned in some places back in the day). Life of Brian isn't as absurd as The Holy Grail and is more like a "real" movie, and also had a bigger budget. And yes, shows like Friends are also very popular here, despite the laugh tracks, so they don't bother people too much if the show is good.
We were looking at Life of Brian as well, and ended up deciding on Holy Grail for this week. We might end up checking it out next month sometime. Sounds like we might jive with it a little more and religious humor doesn't bother us at all!

I was thinking Shakespeare but totally forgot about the greeks haha.

Is Blazing Saddles good? Would you recommend it for a reaction? We haven't heard of this movie until very recently.

Thanks for the compliments! We enjoy the entire process from watching/reacting to editing and will continue to put videos out!

Not going to lie while going through the edit process the movie felt a bit better.
The horses got cut from the budget
They had enough for just one at least!

Im not smart enough for this movie i didnt get it 😭
LOL it was hit or miss for us but the ones that landed were really funny IMO
Lol. It's supposed to be nonsensical. Just take the jokes at face value.
Just a flesh wound!
We'll call it a draw then 🤣
