I think the problem is you need a certain level of drum knowledge to even understand how good it is. Like I play drums a bit, but I had no idea what he was pointing out half the time. I know what the words mean, but my ears and brain can't keep up. I'm busy trying to get my 8th note double bass kicks not to sound like ass, how could I possibly understand the complexity of the gods.
Diepold is incredible, as is Hannes Grossmann, but I think Sebastian Lanser is still the greatest Obscura drummer.
He's playing a cover is probably why it's not more popular.
Diepold is a Machine, one of my favorite TechDeathMetal drummers.
His cover of the Nile “The inevitable degradation of flesh”and John Longstreth “Saligia” are insane examples of technical drumming, masterclasses.

NeO are my favorite band in the world by a LONG shot, and I've met Dan several times, but with respect to his talent, he is nowhere *near* this level.
He's one of my favourites.
Only criticism I see is that live (with Obscura) his snare is drowning while blasting because the sound guy has to level it to rimshots.
Apart from that, he's technically perfect. Doesn't get any better than that.

Excellent video. The posture he has touching everything is what, in my personal opinion, has helped him do such an excellent job. The cuts in the Crash cymbal are masterful. The stops he makes and then continue with the blast beat are on another level. The most amazing thing about the video is how happy and relaxed he is in carrying out this great job.👊🤙🥁🤙👊

But in the mentioned fill, hands and feet are in perfect sync. you don't hear any (unintended) flam and that is a sign of mastery, because at that speed it's very hard to play 'unisono' without having little timing issues, which would cause an unintended flam between feet and hands.

Holy shit I know about Diepold. He was doing straight blasts with his fingers without breaking a sweat, & he had to switch to push pull because of injuries from so much practice for upkeep, & also time & life getting in the way. Of course push pull takes a long time to develop at that speed, but it seems like the most long term least stressful technique for blasting. You should also check out the psycho from Ophidian I. I can't remember his name, but he looks like his push pull is some sort of laser precision science experiment.

I have a lot of David Diepold's drum playthroughs and covers downloaded onto my phone. Long 12+ hour flights on a C-130, I would watch these over and over again. It is so awesome to see you reacting to this in a similar way! Bro is inspiring with how little attention he has received for years but how godly his skills are.

I've been watching David for 10 years now since he released his Arcana Hereticae cover by Behemoth, and i knew one day he would get the recognition he deserves. Dude plays the drums like he was built to play them and he disappears for a few months only to come back impossibly better. His new stuff is mind blowing.

David easily ripping through Dave Weckl's "Tiempo de Fesitval"(!) made me almost cry. A showcase in dynamics and tightness. It truely shows how good David really is.
David Diepold is not just an amazing drummer but he's also an extremely humble and all round nice guy. I had the pleasure to work with him on 2 songs for my solo project and 2 songs with my band and it was like a dream come true. Been watching his videos for years. Also got to meet him in person and watch him fill in for Benighted on the drums at Brutal Assault in 2015. What an absolute LEGEND!
I discovered him a little while before he joined Obscura. He is a machine. I love how he does single foot blasts as if he just is telling every drummmer "don't be a pussy"

To be honest; being a metalhead for more than 40 years now, always dissecting this often extremely complex and technical music, I stumbled into watching David’s play throughs -love them!!- and finally landed at your channel 😆 and…just guessing, but…I won’t be the only one, so you surely have to be greatful to guys like him 😌 BUT… you are the only one who leads us through them with seriously good dressed up comments and a good dose of humor. Between the crazy fretless guitar and Diepolds insane drumming might be the most talented metal band ever. Not necessarily my favorite but you gotta respect the talent.
Mind you First Fragment is probably more talented. If you can even compare at that level. But their bassist is the best to ever do it par none.

Have you ever seen Nick Yacyshyn's drum cam from Baptist live at Rain City? It's one of the most impressive drum performance that I've ever seen, not just the execution, but the joy that he shows while playing is just the best, when I need to lift me up I watch that drum cam, lol
