This is not a usual vid I would make, but Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has definitely left a big impression on me and sad to see this series come to an end, had the biggest potential to be more than just a kids show. The story was progressive, well written and the animation was just GOD TIER, it was like Studio Trigger (Gurren Lagann, Kill La Kill) had a baby with TMNT and gave us "Rise of the TMNT".
The fight choreography in this series is just insane, literally, Naruto inspired fights with a sprinkle of Studio Trigger inspired animation. To all the people who slept on this because of weird character changes, or they "don't like it because of X....", really judged a book by its cover. Think of it as an alternate universe, similar to the concept of the Spiderverse, same, same, but different. In my opinion from these past 2 seasons, this series is a prequel to the turtles we all love and grew up with just a new spin on the formula that has been recycled for decades (Hint to the ending scene of this series).
Enough of this small rant, hope you all enjoyed this little edit, check out the series if you're an all-time TMNT/anime fan, just give it a go, and hopefully after the sequel movie to this series Nickelodeon will renew it or Netflix will continue this series as a Netflix Original and see the potential of this series as I and most other people in the TMNT community have too.

I think it’s important to note how SMART the turtles were in this fight. They were 100% outmatched by Shredder in almost every way, so they focused on keeping him on the back foot by changing the fight constantly.
Rather than rushing him together, they alternate, letting Leo’s speed get him invested, only to immediately swap to Raph, who’s clones could take the hits with no repurcussions, then April got him off balance with concussive forces and Karai’s visible shock on him, then Mikey only wrapped him up long enough to get his attention and get a solid hit in, before letting Donnie deal a single GIGANTIC hit with the drill.
This was a perfectly executed strike. And while it didn’t finish him off, it did as much to weaken him as possible.

Exactly. And the icing on the cake when they all including the ghostly Hamato clan assist them all as a family to destroy shredder, saving the spirit inside him so he can rest in piece.
At first glance of the series, I too was skeptical. Especially with April and Splinter, but the show grew on me. I never got to watch it on TV, I saw clips but had to watch a few eps in GERMAN on here.
I will always like the 2012 and 2003 though. But not sure about the 80s version even though that’s basically what started it.

@@jantheking7028 It is definitely different from the 2012 TMNT, but you just got to take into consideration that this is like a prequel to the TMNT you know and love. Keep an open mind, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Not just the animation but the choreoraphy is flawless too, all the while keeping it true to the character of the turtles. They could have easily had them be soulless "badasses" during this fight but no, each and every single turle has their own, unique, characteristics during this fight. This should be preserved as much as possible. The effort of the animators here can't be overlooked.

And to think this scene in particular was rushed due to Nickelodeon shortening the deadline and axing the show. But the animators still managed to pour all they had into it. Such a shame that the show was critically judged and dismissed based on the looks of the turtles. I was instantly sold when I first saw the opening intro.
Absolutely agree with you, loved this iteration of the turtles, it was a fresh new take that not a lot of people understood the appeal.

For me the reason not to watch the show was the design they gave splinter. I was willing to forgive the new stuff and change in dynamics, but they made splinter rather ugly so I didn't watch it. Didn't help my family was dropping cable and we didn't have a way to watch it a year after the show aired.

Just binged the second season. IMO the best TMNT show. Almost literally anime short of being made in Japan. I don’t think any other show they’ll do will have fight scenes this good and epic. The most OP versions of the Turtles we’ll ever get. I really hope Nickelodeon brings it back for 1-3 more seasons. I know they’re still doing a movie for it apparently. Maybe that’ll revive interest in it?

I think it’s interesting how they get there classic weapons back, and there mystic powers, but with a twist.
Raph’s tonfas could create basically a mystic avatar around himself. For gauntlets, size, and strength. Then his sai’s expand on that allowing him to create mystic construct copies of himself. Basically shadow clone jutsu.
Leo’s odachi sword could create portals that allowed him to teleport. Then his katanas allows him to teleport to anyway the swords are, evening teleport different people from sword to sword. Literally the flying raijin.
Mikey’s kisari-fundo could create fire and expand to any length, allowing for grappling and fire manipulation. Then his nunchucks are able to do the same, but this time he has dual nunchucks for more melee. Able to expand at any length as well.
Donnie’s techstaff was like a utility belt for anything, melee, selfies, jets, flight, grappling, etc. Then his mystic staff allows for more melee, able to create constructs, expand to any length. Its even able to interact and enhance his donnietech.
Excellent observation, yeah I totally agree with you, from the very beginning they have been using their mystic weapons as a replacement for their broken original ones, utilising them as mere tools.
But throughout the series, the weapons become less of a tool and more an extension of themselves individually. When their weapons break they realise that it wasn't the mystic weapons that made them stronger, it was the hard work, dedication and their training, taught to them by Master Splinter and Karai.
Therefore in the finale of the series, the Turtles are at their peak, using their original weapons, but like you stated the characteristics of their mystic weapons carried over (the extension of themselves).
They have reached the end of their training or the beginning (rise) of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles we all love.
Nice analyses there, you two. I hadn't thought much about their weapons, but now I am intrigued to do so.

I love their style as well. Raph is so agile despite his massive size and was beating shredder in speed to hit attacks. Mikey basically became scorpion/spiderman in his chain manipulation. Donnie always wowed me in his staff's use of momentum. Back when he double teamed with mikey his staff usage was on point. Leo forget about it. He's basically got the fight all mapped out thanks to his teleportation to the point he's 50 steps ahead already. He earned that double peace sign.

@@ryuoh6928 I seen a few clips and it just doesn't have the same appeal as 2012 or the others before it had. Don't get me wrong, this is awesome, but they should've not changed too much of the dynamic that we enjoyed.
Dai_Do93 Honeslty I love the fresh take on the turtles. The comedy and plot definitely feels different compared to what we're used to, but for me that's a welcome change. I love both this and the 2012 show. I guess the only thing I'd change would be the intensity of specifically Raph's design. It feels a little TOO bulky, like an extreme version of knuckles from Sonic Boom. But I still think that sort of body type suits him.

*Consistent series narrative?* No, but there are a lot of multi part episodes and (loose) story arcs…
*Character growth?* A little bit (not too much unfortunately)...
*Genuinely touching moments?* Definitely! The show makes me go “Aww!” every other episode with its simple but sweet character interactions.
*Unironically awesome* -anime- *fight scenes?* HOH YES!
TTG is a great show with excellent action! It's just preoccupied in being a sitcom half the time, and maybe enjoys being self aware about being a silly cartoony cartoon a bit too much...
But I still love it!

It’s weird immature and sometimes brattily mean spirited (like an immature version of South Park), but yeah, comparisons with the OG TT and ‘smart’ and ‘deep’ contemporaries such as Steve Universe don’t help the show be seen in a positive light in the eyes of certain viewers.

Phil well for 1 I never said it was bad. 2 action comedies are all we have now. And even back when things with more actiony they still were on the comedic side even if it didn’t outway the action. I think the problem is that people were expecting a teenage mutant ninja turtle show. Whilst the creators were trying to give us something different.
It looks amazing and the thing about it people are misunderstood about how the story is going because it says it in the title "RISE" which is the beginning of how they became the TMNT

Phil eh not really. There is t that many tmnt show. The first one in the 70-90s, then u got that live action one which we will not count for animated. 2003 tmnt was the first one to be something different. After 2003 tmnt though, other tmnt movies/shows just copied it’s basis. But the tmnt 2003 gave us the dark gloomy side of the tmnt. I hear 2012 has it’s moment, but it’s not a gritty show like 2003 and rise over here is more comedy than anything. Every show has it’s moments doesn’t mean it is good.
@@Tradetek1 1987. And I mean in terms of the turtles' personalities and general designs. (Big buff turtles that you wouldn't know are teenagers if "teenage" wasn't in the title) them being more than the hot head, the party dude, the leader and the nerd, turns a lot of people off. And splinter not starting as the wise, loving mentor. Most series focus on the turtles facing various threats while occasionally learning a moral. The general focus for the shows is achieving a goal. (Defeat shredder, krang, whoever) Rise focuses much more heavily on the characters and less on defeating the big bad so it adopted a more villain of the week format. Though draxam is the "big bad" for the first season and shredder is the final boss.

Do you have a source on this info about the last few episodes and action scenes being rushed? I understand Nick cut the second season in half but I am interested in this info about the particular scenes being rushed. I feel like they are super polished, even if they had to rush to finish because nick cut their episodes, it's really hard to tell
I love how this is an American cartoon that just went anime mode for the fight scene. This is perfect because the TMNT are Ninjas so it's only fitting they go total anime mode for the fight. Even the music sounds like something out of Naruto

Anime is an animation style as well as having specific animation techniques, tropes, and art styles that American cartoons don't do and are only RECENTLY starting to mimic the "modern" anime look, in terms of art style, like ben 10 and Young Justice. Those shows had anime-inspired style, but still moved like a cartoon. This is an American cartoon straight up using anime techniques for the Ninja Turtles.

Actually, the music IS something out of Naruto. Specifically, it's called "Spin and Burst" and played when Naruto and Sasuke fought Momoshiki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. It's oddly appropriate.

It really sucks how poorly networks treat their shows. Especially the good ones. They’re either run into the ground and milked dry of everything. Or they get axed the second the network realizes they can’t do that.
They only did it because blck April caused people to basically mass black ball it by not watching so Nick had to shut it down to avoid losing less money but recently everybody realized it wasn’t actually bad and that there was no problem with black April that’s why they came back with a movie

I’m not gonna lie, I’m one of those bitter bias stupid idiots that looked at their initial design after coming off of the 2012 version and wasn’t willing to give this show a chance until 2020 during quarantine AND only at the behest of a friend.
Honestly, I’m mad at myself because this show is amazing, I still slightly prefer 2003 and 2012 more, but this is easily good enough to stand on its own merits, and has its own unique flavor that over all is still good, fun, yet can be more “grounded” when it wants and needs to be.

I tuned out of TMNT because of the messiness of the 2012 series but hearing and seeing about Rise got me back into it. I can't believe people were shitting on this back then. This is easily the most well-animated TMNT show we've ever gotten, and the changes in lore and style is very refreshing. It's a shame that the series ended so soon, but I'm just glad that it capped off with an amazing depiction of Shredder. I mean goddamn, like you said, it's as if Studio Trigger and TMNT had a baby with 10x the animation budget, which is more than any fan could ever ask for a series like this.

@@Dark_Mastermc it was stiff (animation wise), the characters were basically the same as every other incarnation (but this one) it was just the Leo and Raph show while mikey and Donnie just take a back seat and are next useless in any episode that isn't specifically about them, their whole "brotherly" dynamic is just shitting on mikey constantly for being an idiot. It's a personal gripe but how is new York city, one of the most densely populated cities in America, and the city that never sleeps always completely vacated every night? Aside from their single character traits the characters have zero personality, the whole April/Donnie/Casey love triangle, April just being the damsel in distress until she just randomly becomes God... thats just off the top of my head
@@phlpcockrell Dude you didn't seem to watch the entire 2012 series. Each character was given more and more stuff to grow upon. Also you say that April became a god, what about THIS April? Besides, one thing that was made clear on the 2012 show was that Multiuniverse concept when even the 80s TMNTs showed up. Leo was aloof in the beginning, then he matured and even developed his skills. Raph became less volatile and a bit more wise even as much as lessening his on going conflicts with Leo. Donnie became more funny as well as even more inventive, Mikey was even extremely adorable and also was given episodes to explain why he was so seemingly nutty, alluding to his innate skills of feeling the moments. April was discovered to be an actual Kraang product of their experiments on Earth, NEVER being shown to be in ANY of the stories before. Meaning that she is not entirely human and they even showed her mom and talked about her backstory in Depth. The Hamato Yoshi backstory was deepened and was extremely emotional when it came to Karai and even Shredder. Oh and there were actual deaths of Characters...at one point they had to make foot Soldiers robots when in one scene Splinter snaps the neck of a Human Foot Soldier to avoid showing more violence...till you know they (SPOILER ALERT) Killed Splinter graphically as well as the Shredder.
So yeah, I am sure you needed to watch the 2012 in its entirety to reassess your thoughts on it. This show was ok and not taken serious because it strayed away from what TMNT was, that was till the end that is, especially shown on this very same clips. Then even though it had comedy the focus became a bit more serious as you can see the series progressing, though still having its nutty hyper crazed comedy. It even made Leo the Leader as it should had been right at the end.
It's ok if you liked this series more than the 2012 but the 2012 even won awards and it was a great show on its merit. One thing to consider is that in its inception TMNTs was never for kids to begin with and its alternate takes has have it be something for different people, but it is important to watch everything in order to plainly say what's good or bad about it.
Man this music makes this scene 10x better, this video made me binge watch the whole show, which I don't regret. Was sad the music for the scene was anticlimactic after seeing this. Great series for sure
So, I thought some of you would like to know this, Some of the story board artist actually do work on a few anime shows. I can't really tell which ones but it's amazing to know that this video was pretty accurate.
American animation studios have to be more like this. Yes its not what what regular viewers are used to but its amazing and well made. Way better that whats offered in today's animated TV shows.

This Shredder was awesome, I actually like how even though it took a while to develop his character, it's pretty much the same shredder, if he was an anime villain, of course, WE NEED A JAPANESE DUB OF THIS SHOW!!!!

Real talk: This fight scene that is instense in a Cartoon primary for kids actually got away in today's TV media and I am so glad it did. Kids who are watching this show will now experience what actual fictional action is like than dumb down action like some cartoons today.
Not to mention the finale episodes also go pretty fricking dark, which I love.
