Let's hear it for SRV's guitar tech, Rene Martinez! E-strings were scared of Stevie Ray! SRV is the GOAT of blues/rock guitar and was an all around decent human being, gone way too soon. RIP Stevie Ray.
Honest to God, he was born part guitar! The fact I sat stage side for his last show, watched the helicopter take off into the fog 45 seconds before he met Jesus, I am truly blessed! God gave him to us for 36 years, then decided he wanted to hear Stevie Ray play with Jimi Hendrix!
🤠 Stevie switched guitars mid-song without missing a note. I can't walk and chew gum at the same time. What's really going on? He was built different. Not human. From another planet. Boy oh boy! 🤦🎸😂
John English, I feel the same as you do!! Stevie was totally blessed,. Human or not we were all amazed and uplifting to hear this man play! I guess it will always be good too hear & play his music.
Thanks, WolfH- see how SRV points out and says "Go Reese Wynans" on the keys - he was super-generous - and see that broken string flyin' around.. if you didn't see it, you'd never know it happened - his crew were known to expect that from SRV - happened all the time.. lol
Renee Martinez was Stevies . Guitar tech . He retired a few years ago after working for John Mayer. Mayer a huge SRV fan inducted SRV and Double Trouble into the Rock and Roll hall of fame.
The man who helped with the guitar change was his guitar tech,Rene Martinez.,who before becoming his tech was a guitar repairman.Stevie was known to be an absolute beast with his playing and went through lots of strings,so Rene was very, very needed
You would love Life Without You written for his friend Charley Wirz who was a mentor and helped Stevie in how he designed his guitars and who died of a heart attack. It has a beautiful vocal, guitar solo and message.
Weese Wynans is one of the few piano players who can play "5 fingered" rifts. He is still playing today, but the name of the band escapes this 68 year old womans mind! LOL And Stevie Ray Vaugn. What a musician he was. Another one gone way to soon.
New subscriber here and I love some SRV. That was the smoothest guitar change I have ever seen. I play guitar too but when I break a string I have to either keep playing with a broke string or set my guitar down and pick up another one myself. Mad props to that roadie for such a smooth guitar change
To see that guitar tech, Rene Martinez, check out the UA-cam video "John Mayer 200 guitars." It's one of the bonus features on the John Mayer DVD "Where the Light Is ... Live in LA"
And that was most likely a .013 high E that he broke. He used a lot of custom sets, and sometimes went up to .017 (of course, he didn't make the rest of the strings match that gauge because... well, that would be freakin' insane). .013 is pretty hefty as it is, and he could go through those like nobody's business. SRV had amazing finesse for someone with hands like his and the force he was capable of. He clearly knew how important the skills of an extraordinary pro like Rene Martinez were for him. :)
Could've been. But it was said that he switched to lighter gauge (.10s or .11s) later on in his career as it was getting quite painful to play that heavy a string. And this is a fellow guitar nerd talking
Notice he broke a string. Stevie commonly broke strings, despite them being very heavy gauge. Stevie was used to breaking strings. His guitar tech was always ready with a backup.
I don’t know if you guys noticed but, your mics volume is higher than the video’s and Each Time you Speak it “cuts” the sound of the video by 1/3 and it takes 2-3 seconds for the video volume to come back to normal… You might want to look into that… Just an observation.
Great reaction, both of you. You're entertaining. Keep 'em coming. And Dolly... This hasn't a thing to do with SRV, but would love to see you match your bottom lip color to the magenta on your headphones for a two-tone change-up... black AND magenta. It might be a fun thing to do at least once for your rock sisters watching.
Bentornata Dolly ! Is it true that you have reacted to this song in the past ? But this is another version ! The first time Tra and Suzi reacted to this piece if I amnot wrong !
It's not a better version at all. It's a different version and both stand on their own merit. Stevie Ray holds back and allows Jeff to shine, because that's who Stevie Ray was. Jeff Healey is/was incredible and it was a great performance that should be watched for sure. But, this version here, showcases Stevie Ray and Reese and in no way is it inferior to the other version. Both should be watched.

Right? Every performance that dude became as much of the show as anyone.
That choreography that him and SRV have together for guitar changes is magic!
@@TheWolfHunterZ Right? Smooth as a buttered biscuit!

I remember watching this at home on Cable Television and as usual SRV delivered .

Thanks you for giving props to the stagehand. I always said he def knows Stevie cuz that s**t was smoooooth!
There is a video detailing that guitar change and Rene (his tech) gets a shout out and stuff. Smoothest guitar change in history.
He is bending the hell out of them Fender 10-38 set strings and then break one Holy Shit comes to mind
Stevie was not wearing cowboy clothes...how funny!
GOAT of guitar techs

4:10 -- He's kewler than the other side of the pillow...
Drums: Chris 'Whipper'Layton. Bass: Tommy Shannon. Keys: Reese Wynans. Guitar Tech: the fabulous Rene Martinez!

So Good, always going to watch SVR
Rene Martinez was his guitar tech and Reese Waters is the keyboardist. Check out his Mary had a little lamb video
That's Reese Wynans, not Waters
@@dztxtea correct I don’t know what I was either thinking or drinking

Reese is now Joe Bonnamassa's keyboard player
I think they changed their name, after Reese (keyboard) joined the band, to Triple Threat.
Reece plays with Joe Bonamassa now.
I was just thinking the other day whatever happened to Reece...wow he teamed up with another killer guitar player!
By chance do you know the name of the previous keyboard player for Bonamassa, he is playing with him at the Amsterdam show with Beth Hart.
Such a consummate professional! God, I miss him.

@@jackdixon29jd That is true. Those poor .10s and .11s, though. I can't imagine them standing much of a chance against Stevie. :D

Stevie Ray was from Texas. . .That isn't an "outfit", that's his clothes.
Turn it up!
Keyboard player is Reese Waters, but I do not know who the roadie who brought the spare guitar out is
A true pro….does not panic.
Reese Wynans o the keyboards he has some crazy solos. Chris Layton drums Tommy Shannon who played bass and SRVs best friend.
Reese is the SRV of the keyboard world
If you want to see some more wild stuff by SRV, check out Texas Flood. Live at the Macombo.
Rene is a highly respected and gifted guitarist in his own right.
That should be used in training videos for Nascar pit crews.
yes Kay!!!!! lol
Reese Wynans on piano
