A great video. It doesnt matter how many months go by i can refresh my memory with this video when working on my car. Vcds and a smoke machine are a must for VAG cars 😂

That is very interesting. I did not realise that air like this could effect the figures and the car ECU adjust so dramatically.

Clearing codes (even if there is none) is clearing LTFT memory, right?
How long would it going back to normal if I would not clear codes?

Thank you for this very instructive video!
There is still something that puzzles me, so I have a question please!.
min 2:10, very good readings for the short and long term fuel trims. But, O2 sensor voltage reading is 1.48 V. Aren't we supposed to see a fluctuating value between 0.1 and 1.0 volt?

My beetle 1.9 pd is horrendous on diesel, exhaust stinks pungent. I have vcds and one of your leads. I think I have an air leak, I didn’t know how to check for one though. This explains perfectly
Would an air leak affect fuel consumption? My torsion value is 1.1, I adjusted it from -4.4 using vcds.
Ps… earlier this year I fitted a 130/150 inlet manifold, an egr delete then had a remap, I have noticed oil that has leaked from the rocker cover breather-inlet, the oil is on the inlet manifold.
    Please help, thank you.

I have an Audi B8 A5 2.0T (2015) and trying to figure out why I have +20 percent LTFT readings. No codes. I did smoke machine test, no air leaks that I can see. PCV valve was replaced with OEM. MAF clean with brake cleaner. Fuel rail pressures fine, no misfires, no symptoms. Could it be a bad injector or two? How do I test injector with VCDS?

I have the 1.8 tsi engine and channel 33 goes down to -17 and misfire cylinder 2 and 3 starts coming out, it goes to 0 a minute and no error codes come out in the engine, what could it be? The engine has lost a lot of power when starting cold it is very bad

short term fuel fluctuates + or - around zero, and my long term steadily rises until around 25% I get a check engine light. I am stumped. 2007 vw passat 2.0T FSI. anyone have any advice? why does the long term keep rising? tia

    • @Nicoleise

The video basically shows you that exact example; when they remove the dip stick, the engine intakes "false air" (air that has not passed the MAF sensor in the intake right after the air filter), and thus, the engine combusts more air than it *thinks* it is. Hence the mixture gets lean and the ECU tries to correct.
While the video may not explain it extremely well, lifting the dip stick is similar to having a leaking air intake system on these engines because the crank case ventilation is performed by the intake, thus allowing the dip stick to pass false air into the engine. So when your car experiences identical symptoms, but have the dip stick seated properly, it would suggest that the engine is indeed getting "false air" like in the video, but obviously not from the dip stick as in the video. Instead, it could be a leaking air hose or a fault in the positive crank case ventilation system (PCV).
The video also shows you how to diagnose this issue by injecting something flammable (not just anything, use what they suggest) around the intake hoses. If this spraying causes the engine air/fuel mixture to change to a leaner mixture, it would indicate that the "fuel" that you're spraying into the engine bay makes it into the engine to affect the mixture. The only way it could do that, is if there's a leak in the area that you are spraying, to allow your "fuel" to make it into the inside of the air intake system. Using this method, you can locate the faulty part of the intake and replace it.

I have an 09 Tiguan n I’ve tryed using starter fluid to find a vac leak but I can’t find anything. But prior to getting a p0171 code my transfer pump was making a humming noise . The noise has now stoped (suspect pump died) I get the p0171 code can the transfer pump loss cause this code?

An engine with only a Map sensor cant see any vacuum leaks! Only with a Maf sensor.
So in that case the fuel trims are not helpful, to diagnose a vacuum leak.

    • @tmanda323

n engine with only a Map sensor and vacuum leaks will have high idle

    • @scottykilmer3920

True, but only if the there is a large leak somewhere, small leaks doesnt cause high idle.

    Hello from Argentina!
    I have a 2001 vw passat 1.8t awt engine.
Yesterday i drove very well, but very kms later, start to have rough idle and run very very rich.
Lambda reading is 22,7% and change to 26,6% all the time. I change lambda sensor and nothing, the harness to ecu is okey, if I disconnect the lambda sensor, the reading is 0% and run well.
There no have vacumm leaks, spark plugs are good, no misfire readings, fuel pressure is 4 bar it´s okey.
technician guy tell me: " your ECU died"
    Please help me!!!
