I feel so old now, being 30 and only just now figuring out what I want to do with my life (tattooing). How do you find an apprenticeship when you’re very socially awkward/neurodivergent? 😭 Everyone says you “just need to go into shops and build a rapport” before asking about an apprenticeship, but I have no idea how to make that type of conversation. Like dude, I’m just an artist and I wanna learn how to properly put my art in people’s skin. Can’t I just show up as a stranger to shops with my portfolio and apply like I would any other job? 😭 Or better yet, email them a PDF? 😅

From my experience I used to be very socially awkward and what helped me get over it is not defining myself to that label or “neurodivergent” the more u believe it the more true it feels to u. Kinda have to brainwash yourself into ur dream self and u should definitely email the shops u looking at and attach ur portfolio

Go get tattooed and while you’re getting your ink feel free to converse with your artist, ask questions, that way it doesn’t feel awkward if you have a reason to be present for 2-6 hours long. It’s always fun waiting to get tattooed and just observing the shop dynamic and the art work throughout the shop 🤙🏼

Growing up in Foster Care all my life, that lifestyle going from foster home to foster home, losing a brother in the process to gangs, I decided to continue drawing! Certain life things changed me to commit to drawing growing up. My brother who was murdered, I promised to continue to draw like my brother and like my father! Iam 38 yrs old man. I should have done this journey when I was young. But now ia have a goal and it's because of you the gentleman who's making this video, you helped me push myself into this world. Thank you sir!! My wife is a piercer and I feel a connection! I really want to learn from you the tattooing business and really create wonderful art! I want this to be my long life career!
I love what work I done with my wife, and myself. Iam getting good feedback, bit inwould like to really train with you please! I will continue to learn from you! I feel alot of honesty coming from you. Thank you again. I would like to talk and set up a time to speak with you about my goals into tattooing.

This was such a great vid, I see many videos of Apprenticed talking about how bad & horrible their experience was. It’s kinda sad because nobody should be treated horribly for trying to do what they love & passionate about. Very cool you both got together for this video. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🖤🖤

Yall are awesome. I was in an apprenticeship and my teacher got sexually abusive, was treating me like a dog..it was horrible. I ended up in the psychward for 4 days over the crap he was pulling and i never finished my apprenticeship. Im an awesome artist, but he just ruined my drive and trust to try again, i really think. It really sucks because here in the town i live, there are at all times, a total of only one or two tattoo artists..and the guy that i signed a contract under is still tattooing to this day here. Someone else from time to time starts up a shop, but they never stay long, always move on to a better town to make better money in. Its great to know there are decent artists out there that have respect for their students, thank you

This exact issue has been weighing heavy on my mind, you both are lovely 🙏 I’m a woman who has been slowly getting into permanent makeup outside my full time job and want to ultimately do regular tats too. Huge imposter syndrome. And doesn’t help when you meet someone who you think is a cool regular dude, and they belittle you. whether it’s your age you got started, where you’re starting from, or why you’re even trying in the first place.

Amazing and helpful. Sadly being a gentleman is far and few. Those guys that act that way would be the first to flip a lid if their daughters were Miss treated. Treat everyone the way you want to be treated. Yeah you can yell at some one but think.... and be honest no one likes being yelled at. Stay humble and it will keep you blessed is my belief. And I am no God fearing man.

So I would do small tattoos in jail a years ago then when I was 30 I started getting into tattooing and started drawing. I’m 34 now the only apprenticeship I managed to land I was strung along and never got to start. Am I too old to get into this?

    • @Tattooing101
      @Tattooing101  Рік тому

No, you're never too old to get into Tattooing. We have tons of students in our Artist Accelerator Program who are in their mid 40s or even older that have successfully completed the program and managed to get into tattoo studios or even open up their own shops! So it's definitely possible if you are serious and passionate about pursuing a career in Tattooing

@@Tattooing101 that’s good to hear. I feel like I’m constantly doubting my abilities because I got into tattooing later on in life. I was looking into the artist accelerator program but idk if my state accepts that in order to get your license. But I appreciate the reply. Keep doing what you guys are doing you guys are awesome!

I have had the worst sexual harassment experiences being a female artist
And it takes a lot for me to use the word sexual harassment or even harassment
Because of the fact how laid back I am
I mean, this is highly inappropriate, but here is an example just recently, Recent being a couple weeks ago.
I had a guy I was tattooing a volcom sign on his chest
And he asked me if I did certain things during sexual intercourse & climax.
Deliberately asking over and over for me to sleep with him while im tattooing him
He also asked me if I ever had sex while I was tattooing at the same time
Every single time I would move to reposition to stretch the skin He would pull me closer
And make very inappropriate comments while doing so.
All in one session, Plus he would not sit still because he was screaming and crying like a bitch
Of course I handled it the right way and shut it down
And it never happened again from that person
But I deal with that in the industry with my clients that im tattooing for sure.
