Just wanted to let you know, it's 10 years later and I *still* look at/reference your videos when I want to make some Puertorican food. Thank you for making these videos.
I'm not an experienced cook, and as a boring white guy I'm not even real familiar with Puerto Rican dishes, but my wife is Puerto Rican and has been longing for the kind of food she used to eat as a kid. So I found your videos today, made a shopping list, cooked as I watched you on my phone in front of the stove, turned on some El Gran Combo and surprised my wife when she came home from work. She LOVED the food! She does have one complaint however... she's so full she says she can't even move.
OMG! When I was a young teen in PR, my neighbor taught me how to make rice using the standing spoon method to ensure the right rice/water ratio. That was 35 years ago and everyone I told said they never heard of that. I lived en Aguas Buenas at that time. You’ve brought me a wonderful memory! Thank you!
Hello Ida..i married a PR man 5 yrs ago and wanted to learn to cook PR food for him and so I began watching your videos. I am held on high here for all I learned from you. My husband says some of the recipes I have perfected in the 5 yrs are better then his Mamas! I am so thankful to you. 💜🙏 We are departing to Colorado to develop some property to retire on and will be RV living for a while. I have been putting together a small cookbook for us and our crew and your Picadillo is a starred page for our ground beef section. Thank you thank you ! Sincerely Kelley Acevedo aka Dessert Mamita

I just used this VERY recipe for the second time tonight and I'm telling you it smells amazing. Im waiting for my boyfriend to get home so I can dig in! The last time I made this I forgot the ham seasoning, but this time I had it and it made a difference when I was cooking. Your videos are very nice, very direct, and just the right amount of details so I can follow along as I was cooking. Thank you.
I'm from El Salvador, however, married to a New Yorikan. I have been trying your recipes for a week now, and my husband is loving it. Your recipes are very easy to follow as well as delicious. Thank you and keep up the good work.
I use this picadillo for filling my enchiladas, and especially for my tamales. I have a 32cm Concord Cookware 3 Tier Steamer Steam Pot, so I can steam two dozen corn husk, or banana leaf wrapped tamales at one time. Even though I've exactly followed this recipe several times, I'm still amazed that such a simple picadillo can taste so terrific! I freeze them and reheat them as needed. Sweets and beyond, thank you very, very much for clearly presenting this wonderful recipe! El hombre guapo, gran cocinero, en Sarasota
I wish the colleges would offer classes in Puerto Rican cuisine in California. I would have definitely taken them when I was a student. Thanks to UA-cam, I get a second chance at life! You are a marvelous cook!

What I love about your dishes is that they are very easy to make because you show every step in the process. My 13 year old daughter has mastered your stewed beans with potatoes. It is so yummy, THANK YOU!
Thank you for this recipe! I'm Mexican American and sometimes cooking for my Puerto Rican/Dominican husband is very hard. We both like things the way we like them. I made this for him last week and he couldn't stop saying how much he loved it!! Making it again tonight!!! Glad he turned me on to your channel.

I fancy myself a pretty good cook, especially when it comes to Puerto Rican food, but I gotta say that this channel is awesome! I like watching how others cook in the hopes of learning something new or different. I have managed to pick up a few things here and there watching how you prepare and cook your meals. Great channel!

OMG, the nostalgia. I feel like I just traveled back in time, to when I was about 7-8 years old, standing next to my mama as she cooks some of my favorite dishes. You get my sub just for that.
omg! I prepared this while watching you. its amazing. I made your sofrito last week. Thank you so much. theres no spanish restaurants here but I got you lol
I just made this and I feel like I just went back in the Delorean to 1985 in my abuelita's kitchen and I'm so happy. Thank you @Sweets and Beyond you the best Ida!
I made this today! Since i used 1lb beef i only used 3t Adobo and 1T olives, 1/2 & 1/2 sazon and ham seasoning. A little too salty for my liking so i added 1.5t tomato paste and a pinch of sugar. Going to let it sit overnight to let it all come together. So far it's very delicious! Used my own Sofrito from your recipe as well. Thank you!
I am Italian and I just made your Picadillo and it is out of this world delicious! I was married to a Cuban and make Picadillo but it doesn’t compare to yours, you are right about the ham packet! Thanks for your time in making these videos
I followed your instructions exactly and it came out delicious! :) thank you, thank you, thank you for giving such clear directions so that us beginner's can become a pro like you^_^
Good morning! I'm making empanadas for my job and I needed that confidence boosted so I had to listen to your video while making it, like a sister talking to me step by step. Thank you!
This time I cooked along with you, I followed your instructions exactly, the picadillo came out so good, and it's so easy too. my family loves it. Thank you, Ida.
I just made this recipe over the weekend for the first time. Fantastic and delicious! The only substitution I used was the homemade version of Sazon you do in place of the Knorr packet. Thanks again for so many great recipes!
This recipe was amazing!!! We used the leftovers the next night for empanadillas and they tasted wonderful. Each recipe that I have made from your channel has turned out perfect. Thanks for sharing your talents with us :)
I have made this so many times for a bunch of people, and everyone loves it. Tonight, I made empanadas, and my family loved them. They were so stinking delicious! I’m not sure I ever want to make this without doubling the batch, so I can pull out half before adding water. Just so I can have empanadas too! Thank you for the videos; you explain so clearly! Great job!
My boyfriend is Puerto Rican and I’m not and it’s been so hard for me to find recipes until I found your videos! I made a dish and it came out good you made everything so easy to follow! Thank you!!!!!
So did I because when I added 1 1/2 T. of GOYA Adobo, it was too salty. I also added SunMaid Golden Raisins;) That bit of sweetness is a pleasant surprise!
Yes, but don’t overcook or they will be like mashed potatoes. Boil or steam just until a knife can easily pierce them, cool and then dice;) HB eggs are a nice addition as well for empanadillas & papas rellenas filling.
Girl! That recipe was delish, I made it using ground turkey and a package of ground turkey sausage (cause I had it) Didn’t have adobo so I seasoned w salt, garlic, culantro, oregano and cumin, mixed it well following your instructions, then added the chicken bouillon cause I didn’t have the ham one, and an envelope of culantro y achiote Goya packet seasoning, mixed some more, added 8 oz of premade pasta sauce by paul Newman 😂 cause that’s all the tomatoe sauce I had, and then added the fresh cilantro in the end. I must say it’s been the best picadillo I have ever made, thanks to u! Also love your mannerism and the way you come across is very appealing and real, keep it up. This quarantine is making me very creative in the kitchen and im so happy to have great cooks like u to fall back on🙏🏼👊🏼🥰
I made the picadillo this weekend and used it to make empanadas We fiance and i were blown away at how delicious they turned out. The picadillo was so easy to make and your directions were easy to follow. we enjoyed this so much. we can wait to make these again. thank you for your videos!
I also use this picadillo to make a Puerto Rican style goulash or "Beef-a-roni". My parents are from San Lorenzo, PR, well into their 80s, and they absolutely love it! I make it every other week in a large batch that serves 3 or 4 meals, refrigerate and they plate, nuke and eat when they want to. My go to when I want to go golfing, fishing or just get away for a short break. Thank you, Ida!
So mouth watering; thank you for all your hard work in cooking and making these videos!!! I as a person that LOVES FOOD, loves cooking, and loves learning to cook new dishes soooooo appreciate you and your ch, so glad I found it (wish I'd found it earlier, can't wait to try a bunch of your recipes)!!!!
Subscribed! You had me after the Empanadillas video. One of my closest friend is Puerto Rican and she use to teach me how to make this but she moved and I forgot. And then I found you! Can't wait to try this! =]
I love watching you cook authentic puerto rican food it reminds me of my old neighborhood foods in spanish harlem, and you speak perfect english so i can understand, thank you!
Ida! Thank you for this, I made it last night for my pasta it was delicious! I am excited about lunch today too, I am having left overs they will be even better :)
Man I love Puerto Rican food watching your videos makes me feel better and reminds me of a culture I grew up around I had friends who mom would cook an invite us over for dinner. Ooh the potatoe balls we use to get from a restaurant called LA Familia. My aunt would always order that fried pork. In the village people would sale us a cup of pig ears in hotsauce. I'm glad I found your channel thanks Ida.
Sweets and Beyond Hi- I am making the picadillo right now and putting it in empanadas. I did not have oregano so I added Badia Complete seasoning. I used the Sazon con achiote and the Goya Jamon seasoning and the cumin. I also did not have olives and I don't necessarily like them. Also I have seen other empanada recipes with raisins added into the picadillo. How much will not adding the olives and the raisins affect the flavor? Do you recommend baking empanadas or frying them?
Excellent recipe. Very flavorful and thank you for providing the sequence. While I was cooking, my teen sons kept coming downstairs to see if dinner was ready. I love Spanish food. So happy I can start cooking my own. A thousand thumbs up!!!

Making this recipe at this moment. The sauce is delicious! I made it exactly as you said except I added potatoes and diced onions. Great recipe!
We (in Ponce) also add potatoes and onions ...also peppers and olives. (sometimes we add chopped boiled eggs , for the Empanadillas filling) :)
Did you cook the potatoes first?
So did I because when I added 1 1/2 T. of GOYA Adobo, it was too salty. I also added SunMaid Golden Raisins;) That bit of sweetness is a pleasant surprise!

Made this tonight and used the meat for tacos! Wonderful!!! My family ate 2nd's and that's a feat in my house!! Thank you.
Girl! That recipe was delish, I made it using ground turkey and a package of ground turkey sausage (cause I had it)
Didn’t have adobo so I seasoned w salt, garlic, culantro, oregano and cumin, mixed it well following your instructions, then added the chicken bouillon cause I didn’t have the ham one, and an envelope of culantro y achiote Goya packet seasoning, mixed some more, added 8 oz of premade pasta sauce by paul Newman 😂 cause that’s all the tomatoe sauce I had, and then added the fresh cilantro in the end. I must say it’s been the best picadillo I have ever made, thanks to u! Also love your mannerism and the way you come across is very appealing and real, keep it up. This quarantine is making me very creative in the kitchen and im so happy to have great cooks like u to fall back on🙏🏼👊🏼🥰
i used ground turkey too !! it was very juicy
I made the picadillo this weekend and used it to make empanadas We fiance and i were blown away at how delicious they turned out. The picadillo was so easy to make and your directions were easy to follow. we enjoyed this so much. we can wait to make these again. thank you for your videos!
This delicious, I put it over macaroni instead of rice, so it was Puerto Rican beef a roni LOL. My family says thank you!!!! *Lydia*

sounds amazing
I also use this picadillo to make a Puerto Rican style goulash or "Beef-a-roni". My parents are from San Lorenzo, PR, well into their 80s, and they absolutely love it! I make it every other week in a large batch that serves 3 or 4 meals, refrigerate and they plate, nuke and eat when they want to. My go to when I want to go golfing, fishing or just get away for a short break. Thank you, Ida!
I made this today for the relleno de papas and it came out good. I added diced onion since I didn't have garlic. Thanks a lot for sharing!
I only trust your videos when looking for something new to cook for PR food. 🙌🏼❤️

I made it with you idea of putting in a ham bullion, my family love it (didn't have Goya so I use the knorr)...Thank you :-)
Man I love Puerto Rican food watching your videos makes me feel better and reminds me of a culture I grew up around I had friends who mom would cook an invite us over for dinner. Ooh the potatoe balls we use to get from a restaurant called LA Familia. My aunt would always order that fried pork. In the village people would sale us a cup of pig ears in hotsauce. I'm glad I found your channel thanks Ida.
Your channel is amazing!!!!! Your cooking tips are so helpful! Glad I subscribed xoxo
Thank you so much!
I just subscribed to your channel. Your recipes are awesome.
