    The tip when he holds the treat under his thumb and more in the palm of his hand instead of using your finger tips really really works. I got bit and blood was drawn from my dog from attacking my fingers and she got her butt smacked. I felt bad because she seemed like she had no idea why she got smacked. These techniques really helped and worked within a couple of minutes. Thank you.

    I'm a new subscriber to your videos and have been very impressed with your training the dogs. Can you please do a video of HOW TO PICK OUT A GOOD TEMPERAMENT PUPPY FROM A LITTER as a buyer? The problem is as a buyer you can only spend a very small amount of time watching the puppies playing with each other and trying to distinguish which one is the aggressor and which one is the timid one. I watched another puppy video, not done by you, and they said the easiest puppy to train is the one that has a middle of the road temperament, not too aggressive or not too timid. I watched a video, not your videos, the trainer said if you pick a puppy that is either too aggressive or too timid that they can never change as they get older, do you agree with that? I hope you can respond to my question as I'm in the process looking for a female Cockapoo or Golden Retriever puppy? Are males typically more aggressive than female puppies? Keep up the great training videos.

    What about bite inhibition
    Great video, but I've been told that a puppy needs to learn not just to not bite, but bite inhibition. With that I had been told to let puppy bite, but to decide how hard is too hard and to slowly decrease the level of bite that is allowed so they learn to control their strength. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

      They have another video, that says you should never let your dog bite skin. Do the tricks in this video. When you want to allow them to bite, give them something like a toy or ball. But never let them bite you without correction.

    my puppy isn’t food motivated and doesn’t have a toy she absolutely loves. she shows interest in cheese and a really smelly treat for a minute and then cares more about biting or wandering around.

    • @McCannDogs
      @McCannDogs  5 років тому +3

      Hi there! There are a couple of things that you can do to have a pup who is more motivated by food. Try training around their mealtime. They will be hungry and you will see that your puppy is much more attentive and they’re a little more focused on treats or their meal( that you’re using as the reward). Another thing you need to do is reward more often. If you’re luring a trick or a behavior for your puppy, but you’re not rewarding enough. Your puppy will quickly get frustrated, and they’ll become distracted. By breaking down the skill or exercise a little bit, and rewarding more often, your puppy will begin to understand that when they put in a little effort that they are rewarded! This is especially important for new skills or for working on things that your puppy finds challenging. Happy Training! ~Ken

    Hello, I’m getting a whippet x lab mix puppy very soon and I have done TONS of research and I know it’s good to have a crate even when it’s older but my mum doesn’t want a big crate and so we’re getting a smaller crate then having a corner and a bed for when he’s older what’s your opinion?

    • @McCannDogs
      @McCannDogs  5 років тому

      It's important that your that your dog has enough space to easily turn around and lay flat in their crate. Make sure you buy a crate that will fit them appropriately for at least their first few months. You will find that the crate will be useful even when your puppy is full grown, if you're traveling, or you need to transport them in a vehicle and for lots of other reasons. If you do decide to have your dog out of their crate when they get older, make sure they haven't made any bad choices with some unsupervised time before you allow them to be out of their crate 100% of the time. Hope this helps! ~Ken

    My question is more about feeding time, I was feeding both my adult female and the puppy at the same time and was going fine..in the last 2 weeks or so, I have noticed that the puppy will not eat until after the adult female is done...he will then go to her plate and sniff or eat her leftovers before going to his own bowl..I heard this may be a dominance or pack order thing? should I leave it be or correct this behavior?

    • @McCannDogs
      @McCannDogs  5 років тому +2

      Hi there, Michelle! Regardless of the reasons, as long as your dog's are getting their appropriate amounts of food, and there aren't any issues with their behavior during mealtime, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you have any concern, then feeding them in their separate crates or their own spots without access to each other is a quick and easy solution!

    • @McCannDogs
      @McCannDogs  5 років тому +2

      Hey there, Lovely_Lucky! This video will be helpful to have better control of your dog in the house: ua-cam.com/video/45kdNR6nAOsu/v-deo.htmlsing a house-line will give you a level of control so you can stop any unwanted behavior before it becomes a habit. As for the aggressive behavior outside, I would suggest you contact a local behaviorist. You can learn lots of skills and tricks for your dog training on UA-cam, but if your dog is displaying a truly aggressive behavior, then you want to get some professional help. That way everyone is safe. Including your dog! Too many dogs are surrendered to animal control and destroyed every year, simply because of a behavioral issue. A lot of the time these behaviors start out as seemingly innocent training issues, but if they aren't addressed they can become a real problem for everyone involved! ~Ken

    Is it a good or bad idea to do this while training something else? Like if I was training my puppy to drop his toy and I offered a treat and he was too rough, is it better to just give him the treat for the sake of dropping the toy? Or is it okay to double up on training in that moment? Is it too confusing for the pup I guess is what I’m asking.

    I trained my dog similarly, only if he bites down on me I won't release the treat. I'll say ouch and he'll back off with his head low and tail tucked. I swear it's like he thinks I'm going to beat him and I've never even yelled at him, much less raised a hand. Never felt the need to do anything more than speak a bit more forcefully.

    Be careful with the ouch technique. it can work now as puppy, but it will build in the dog the confidence he needs to chalenge you later.
    If you're handling a strong bloodline, a trully dominant puppy, that can backfire really hard over time.
    Use you other hand to force the puppy back. You never back down. You're an invencible force of nature. This is what you should make your dog believe.
